It is nostalgic coming here and a great place to bring kids. Think like an old-school carnival or fair that is here year-round and you are just scratching at the surface. I would definitely recommend here. Go check it out and indulge the inner child within you.

I had heard from locals that it's a great local option over the big theme parks. Fun Spot was pretty great, for what it was. Free parking, free admission if you don't plan on riding rides, also a discounted adult pass if you only are going on rides with your kid who is too young to ride alone. The whole place was small, maybe the area of a handful of city blocks. And on the Sunday afternoon when we went, the place was quiet enough that we never waited more than a few minutes to get onto a ride. As we were only there for a couple hours, the cashier recommended the 4 ride pass for my kids, and the companion pass for me. But if one were to spend more hours there, buying the day pass online for $59.95 is quite a bargain. Not all rides were open, but the "big" rides that most kids want (the roller coasters and the go carts) were open. My daughter, who is not a big roller coaster fan, had a harder time finding kiddie rides that she actually wanted to go on, and she watched the go carts and didn't even want to try those with me driving. However, the place was small enough that I felt fine leaving my 10 year old son to go on rides by himself while I went on the Ferris wheel or the merry go round with my 8 year old. There are a bunch of food options available throughout the park. They were definitely more affordable than Disney prices! Most of the places offered souvenir cups with discounted refills, but there were also water stations set up throughout with free cups. I'd definitely come back if I had a few hours to burn and the kids didn't want to go swimming. Hopefully at some point, my daughter will change her mind about roller coasters, though!

The attention to detail throughout the park was impressive and made the whole experience unforgettable. The only downside was that a few rides were closed the day we visited, and the castle light show was unfortunately canceled. Even with that, there was still so much to enjoy. The park had plenty of places to eat, and the freestyle drink machines were conveniently located all around the park, except in the Harry Potter area. We just stopped by for our fifth visit, a testament to how much we enjoy the park. So anyway, we drive up from South Florida, get a hotel, make our way over to the park, and or course we are looking to go on some rides. But to our surprise and frustration, so many were closed for renovation or offline due to mechanical issues. For example: The Jurassic Park River Ride and the Pteranodon Flyers were both out of service due to long term renovation. Even the Mystic Fountain was closed! Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls, Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Kong Island and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey were supposed to be working, but all were offline for a number of hours throughout the day. Maybe we just caught them on an off day or something but it really made the trip a little bit annoying, waiting on line and then being told that the ride is now out of service for an unknown amount of time. And instead of having run, we have to constantly check back on the app for ride status updates. Lame. On a good day five stars for sure, but this time around it was a 3 star experience for me.

That likely depends on how many of the shops and restaurants you want to visit in the area. You may also be fans of the magical wands and making things move in the windows. I really enjoyed seeing the pages of the book come alive as well as several visitors, dressed in robes and other Harry Potter themed clothing. This is a fantastic spot for picture taking as well. Its sole ride, Escape from Gringotts I gave two stars as I found it very lackluster compared to the two Potter themed thrill rides over at Islands of Adventure. But the theming in this section of the park is absolutely phenomenal and highly immersive enough to make this an easy 4 stars. The Knight Bus was fun enough for both my sister and I to get pictures by it with its friendly steward and his appropriate accent. I missed the low key entrance on our first go round. As I said I watched the movies in a cloud of smoke and didn't realize it was this secret fandom entrance/exit but the throngs passing through tipped us off. The greater density with everything packed so tightly together and its separation from the other themed areas of Universal Studios Florida makes this Potter themed area more impressive than its counterpart over at Islands of Adventure- even without a magnificent castle. The alleys, the shops, the hand painted signage, the dragon perched high shooting out that massive flame... I can only imagine how hard this hits if you're a Potter fanatic. And though Escape from Gringotts was pretty weak sauce in my estimation the queue and the theming before the ride experience was top notch. They really broke the bank on this, as with the great train ride in. Maybe if I ever go back I'll watch a Potter movie or two sober.

I walked through the warp pipe entrance and into the land, and that was a genuine moment. The colors, sounds, and scale of everything around me hit immediately in a way that was hard to prepare for even though I knew what to expect. The attention to detail was remarkable, and the music threading through the entire area kept the immersion intact as I moved from one section to the next. Donkey Kong Mine Cart Madness is the ride to prioritize and the one that generates the most excitement in the land. I arrived at park open and went straight here, which was the right strategy as the wait times built quickly. Mario Kart is the other major attraction and delivers on the concept, with the Power Up Band integration adding a competitive layer that makes it more than just a passive ride experience. The Power Up Band is worth purchasing before entering the park if I want the full experience. It unlocks interactive elements and mini games scattered throughout the land that let me collect coins, hit question blocks, and track my score on the app. Without it I could still enjoy the rides and the theming, but a meaningful portion of what makes the land special is tied to having one. At around fifty dollars it is an added cost on top of an already expensive day, but for a Nintendo fan it justifies itself quickly. Weekday visits made a noticeable difference in wait times and gave me more room to engage with the interactive elements without feeling rushed. The land rewards people who slow down and explore rather than just moving through it as efficiently as possible, and there is enough packed into the space that I could spend a solid chunk of the day here without feeling like I had exhausted it.

They do have parking spots you can pay for in the lower levels so it seems like if you're willing to pay there will always be parking. Staff working the gift shop have a window that opens to the entrance where they will scan your wrist band (admission is free with fun spot wrist bands). Admission just to the Gator spot is only $6. I purchased that and the option to feed the gators. I wish they had pointed out the Ultimate admission offer that you get admission, a photo & feeding for a discounted price - I did end up purchasing photos as well as some fun stuff in the gift shop. At the photo area you can hold Cheesecake an Albino Alligator or Grumpy a feisty little female gator or a python. I waited for my opportunity while the photographer did some photos of the family ahead of me. It was pretty comical watching the reactions of people when they get held the animal or freaking out asking why the live animal is moving while they hold them. There was no one after me so I asked if I could get a photo with Cheesecake & Grumpy so I could make my mom a Mother's Day Card. Cheesecake was a very calm gator with very beautiful intriguing eyes, she is very mellow and would be good for those unsure about holding one. Grumpy on the other hand had been feisty all day according to the worker. She was moving and wiggling around. The group in front of me jumped up and asked why she doing that when she started wiggling. I don't know if she just liked me or if she could sense how awesome I thought this was but she was so calm when I held her, she even closed her eyes while I had her. The worker was surprised at how still she was for me. This was such a great experience and the staff was so friendly. This was a great small stop to see some gators without having to spend a lot of money or being short on time. I would highly suggest checking out if you are passing through the area.
