We have been going to Drive Rite for several years and have always experience professional treatment. Many shops that you deal with you feel like you are dealing with slimy people let along crappy facilities. First impression when you walk into their facilities that this place is 1st rate from how they deal with you to how they do thorough repairs. They always give us all the information and let us make decisions based on cost effectiveness vs results. Each time I visit , I wish that I was in the auto repair business like Hari has, simply because it is run like a clean hospital with professional staff. I was use to visiting greasy floor repair shops that had so so results and was blown over the first time we used Hari. Over the years I have been his customer they have always been fair and reasonable in all the repairs and I enjoy going there to have my car serviced. I recently took our new Honda Pilot for its normal repairs and will never use the dealerships again because of there nickle and dimeing for each thing they do. Warning...don't be fooled. As many before me, I broke down near by and had my car brought here for an estimate. After a $150.00 charge to take a look at my car, I received a ridiculous estimate. I was told my car would need certain labor intensive repairs, of which I knew was not true. I decided to order the parts at a local auto parts store for approx. $300.00. The parts estimate from the shop was approx $700.00. YouTube and I did the repair in a matter of 3 beers and 3 hours. The labor estimate was estimated at approx $1,100.00! If I can do this repair in 3 hours, a master mechanic could probably do it In 45 minutes. Not good business. Do your research and look up repair estimates through AAA. read more

Made 9AM appt for oil change. Now, 1030 still nothing. Why make an appt, if it does not matter to them. Owner tells you what you want to hear. Customer is obviously 2nd. DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE TO DRIVE RITE !!!!!!!!! They where recommended to me from AAA, But after them having my truck for a week, they claimed it was being worked on,but when i picked my truck up on friday, it was parked on the street and with the keys in ignition, and when i tried to start it up to drive home it wouldnt even start!!!!!!! I than asked the Jewish guy who works the front desk what was going on, I was given a big attitude,and he than walked out to jump start my truck.I than left the shop to go home,and woke up next day to have my truck not starting again.....I than called the shop to just get more attitude and a i dont care responce,So i just moved on and had my truck towed to another shop called Hahn Auto,and they got the job done and quickly.Thank you for your time,and God bless. read more

My car stopped running at a stop light and I was taken to Drive Rite by someone who had used them in the past and thought they would be fair. However my experience was that I was told that I had to pay $400 just to have my gauges looked at because I they claimed that I had an interference engine. Then repairs to any gauges would be on top of that and replacing the timing belt. After discussing with another mechanic we double checked through my vin number and I do not have an interference engine. My timing belt did not even break.. but it did need to be replaced. When I called Drive Rite to tell them that I would be towing my car in an hour they told me this was fine. But after going through a ridiculous amount of trouble to get my key... when the tow truck came the car was not even ready and the mechanic had to scramble to replace some things before it could be towed. I was very unimpressed with Drive Rite. I have my car back. I saved myself hundreds, if not a thousand dollars by taking my car somewhere else. read more

I needed to get my car smogged in a hurry and it was pouring down rain with flooded roads, so instead of looking for the most inexpensive I was looking for local and reliable. We've used Drive Rite in the past for oil changes and tire rotations so I called to see if they had any openings same or next day. The woman answering the phone found me in the system, put me on a brief hold for schedule check, and then told me that because I was local, they could take me today if I came right over. I did and it was very quick (about half an hour). I was the last smog job of the day. The price was one of the less expensive prices I had seen recently and I have peace of mind, knowing that I can pay my car registration on time with the paperwork processed. I am giving them 5 stars for the appointment when I needed it, friendly service, great waiting area, turnaround, and price. I plan to come back in two years. Took my 2004 corolla into Drive Rite for a smog. It failed due to a faulty catalytic converter. They quoted me $2275 to replace it. I took the car to A1A performance mufflers in Santa Rosa who fit a new one for $320. Went elsewhere and got car smogged and passed. read more

This is the only place I recommend for smog checks. I've brought 4-5 cars here for over 10 years for that service. I have friends who have their vehicles repaired here, and seem satisfied. Since I'm in the automotive industry, and can do most repairs myself, I can't bring myself to have repairs done here. Hari is pleasant enough, but arrogant, and talks down to you. After hearing my friends' stories through the years, and reading through these reviews, I sense opportunism to make a buck whenever and wherever possible. So, even though I finally MUST take my car in for repair somewhere, or do it myself, which I'm tired of doing after decades, I am hunting for a trustworthy, affordable, nearby shop. I brought two vehicles to this place. The first experience should have given us an indication of how terrible the next one would be. My gripes are as follows: 1) TERRIBLE communication. Quotes for work go through the owner, Hari, who has now missed every single deadline he's given. When they're actually working on your vehicle, they don't give progress reports, and the vehicle will sit idle if there's a question unless YOU call THEM! 2) EXORBITANT prices. They nickel and dime you for every part, whether you need it or not. I specifically told Hari that I had all new spark plugs and cables, for instance, and they ended up on the next quote anyway. I was verbally quoted for some possible engine rebuilding and the quote was for all possible rebuilding and new parts. 3) WASTE of time and money. Due to their poor communication, my partner and I wasted a great deal of travel time only to arrive at the promised hour with our vehicle not being ready...after they'd had it for more than two weeks. The moral of the story - prepare to not be communicated with, to pay very high prices, and for work to not be completed on time. read more

Twice I have asked for quotes for separate repairs and both times it took more than 6 hours to complete the quote. Five stars for the work they perform and one star for communication. read more

This place saved our ass. A group of friends and I were driving hundreds of miles back home from a convention when our brakes went out, leaving us basically stranded in town, unable to drive any longer. Some of my friends were starting classes the next day and really needed to be back in town that night. One of us had AAA so we got a tow to Drive Rite and they got to inspecting the vehicle. Since it was late afternoon on a holiday, a lot of places were closed or closing soon. They decided to stay open until they could help us. Since we would need a part that they didn't have on hand, and the shop that had it was closed, they offered a very (very) cheap rental car (that turned into a rental SUV) for us to get back that night. Then they took us through the things that needed repairing. They were very knowledgeable and helpful and got us safely through a bad situation. I feel like they could have easily taken advantage of us. Being out of town with a broke down car on a holiday, but they went out of their way to make sure we'd get home on time and have the vehicle ready to safely drive back home the next day. They also have a very clean, nice waiting room with comfortable chairs and wifi. read more

Yesterday, however, the man upfront could not offer any logical reason(s) why they charge $30 plus to smog a high end car. He wanted to charge me $80 plus and told me if I didn't like the price go somewhere else. I did and an hour later my car was smogged at Cheap Smog Test in Santa Rosa for a total $53. read more

I've been using Drive Rite for my four vehicles for years and just realized the charge for the Mercedes 500 has been charged double. There's no reason for that. I'll use A & G smog now. I shopped around and no other smog shop doubles the price for the Mercedes. This is bad business practice and want others to know the situation. read more

Had my car smogged at this place a few weeks ago. It's ok but nothing special. Positives: The waiting room is clean and they have wifi. Negatives: You have to make an appointment and the smog check took over an hour. This same vehicle has been smogged at a drive-in place in the East Bay and I was in and out in 1/2 hour. read more

This place is so clean and tidy and the staff is incredibly helpful. Car repairs can be scary and costly but I don't feel like this business hikes up the price or does more than they need to. They discuss options and spell out everything they feel should be done with regard to safety and performance but ultimately leave it up to the customer to make the final choice. This place is great for smogs. However, I think either their ethics or expertise is off. I took my BMW here earlier this year and was charged 500 for them to tell me that I needed to replace a $7 brake sensor (which should've been obvious) and that I needed to replace the $1000+ ABS system (which was untrue, the ABS module often sends faulty signals and the module ($80) needs replacing). This doesn't cover what they wanted in repairs. Essentially, if I had listened to Drive Rite, I would have spent $1000s on minimal or unnecessary work. I'd only use it for smog. read more

I've heard good things about this place but did not have a favorable experience myself. The owner, Hari was very friendly and seemed caring & genuine. My car was towed into Drive Rite with a bad alternator. The estimate was over $800, which included changing some belts & battery terminal. Hari said the remanufactured alternator cost was over $400. I was quoted $200 for a new alternator at Napa auto parts. I purchased the part for $79 myself and had a friend put it in. My friend is not a mechanic but was able to install the alternator and the belt in 30 min. Somehow the math doesn't add up with the quote presented to me from Drive Rite Automotive. Hari charged my battery all day and told me the car should go for two days as is. He also very kindly replaced the bad battery terminal. I was charged $45 for this service. I got about 5 miles down the road and broke down again, losing all power, and needing to be towed yet again. It seemed like a great shop but I will never return to be ripped off again. read more

I recently visited this establishment concerning a noise coming from my engine compartment, and had a diagnostic performed. The following day the technicians stated that the transfer case drive chain was worn and the cause of the noise. I was not interested in paying the above dealership cost of the estimate and decided to have a second opinion elsewhere. After paying the estimate price of $95, I learned that the transfer case, and all ossociated parts were NOT the problem and were in good condition. The other shop repaired my vehicle's transmission for far less than Drive Rite quoted for a less intensive repair. After this ordeal, Drive Rite would not honor a refund for the origional diognostic. I have recently learned that many repairs completed here are outsourced to other mechanics, hence the inflated cost of parts/services to maintain a profit. If you do use this shop, make sure to get a second opinion before proceeding with any repairs. read more
