Don't give your iphone if it is in recovery mode. In any case don't give it to Drivesaver. They are not informing what they are exactly doing on the iphone. They tried to recover data from the chip by unlocking the phone. So I couldn't login in my iCloud account. Do believe any data recovery service without a brief explanation. A service targeting celebrities, not for the average Joe. The website boasts of all of the celebrities they've had as customers and you'll need to be one if you want to afford their services. They don't list their prices because when you call and talk to them you'll find out it's going to run you close to $4k. I have a HDD with a mechanical disfunction and wanted to get some pictures off it. Was told it would run between $900 and close to $4k with the expected or average coming in at about 2/3 that range. It's hard to put a value on professionalism, on trusting someone to really put in the work to get your data back, and on communication. I reached out to DriveSavers when my Drobo stopped working after a power outage during data protection. Nothing was working and it was terrifying. That drobo had 15T of my life's work for the last 8 years. When I reached out to DriveSavers and explained what happened, they said it would be between 3-9k and I didn't have that kind of money (yet), so I decided to try to do it myself - invested in about 1k worth of data reading software and hardware to see if I could do it myself. I was able to see that there was data there and corrupt but I couldn't access anything because Drobo uses a special raid system called BeyondRaid. I then had a friend who had access to a high end dedicated technician for her father's hospital down in Orange County, so we gave the drives to him. He couldn't do anything with them, so then he passed them on to a 'Drobo Certified' data recovery center down in OC who said they would give us a 50% discount because of the referral. All I can say, is that 2k and 4 months later, this company in OC where going to charge me 10k to recover 1T of my data....They told me that DriveSavers would charge me at least 20k and this was them doing me a favor... I decided to take my drives back and send them to DriveSavers and 8k and less than 1 month later, they delivered ALL OF MY DATA BACK. The Moral of the Story: When we hand over our most priced and valuable possessions, you're not just hoping it gets back to you, you're putting your absolute BLIND FAITH AND TRUST they actually care about your data and will treat it as importantly as you do. My MacBook got liquid damage and I went to a local repair store but they couldn't help me with it. They did referred me to this with 10% off. DriveSavers is also apple's recommended repair store, and I believe apple could also offer you a 10% off discount code. They are pricey but my computer had years of my compositions and photos. So I'd pay anything to recover it. Be mindful that they say free shipping, but they actually charge $55 something for two day shipping and around $75 for overnight shipping. 1. Short Version: STAY AWAY. DISHONEST. INSANELY EXPENSIVE. They quoted me an outrageous $2,600 to get my data back, lost due to "severe water damage." Not only was Drive Savers diagnosis inaccurate - there was not in fact data corruption due to water damage - but the local company I instead went with charged me only $450, for which I got nearly 100% of my data back. It's clear Drive Savers prays on people's ignorance about computers, and an emotional desire to get one's personal data back, to sell their services. LOOK ELSEWHERE. I've never written an extremely negative review like this, & always thought people who did were obnoxious. But my experience with the dishonest, greedy Drive Savers forced my hand. 2. Longer version: As I live in the Bay Area, I brought in my water-damaged MacBook to the Drive Savers office in Novato myself. They initially told me data recovery would fall in the range of $700-$2700 (which seemed very expensive), but at the time I thought I had no other option, and was desperate to get my data back. Upon diagnosis, surprise, surprise: the quote fell at the absolute upper end of that range - $2600 - due to "extensive water damage." Due to the outlandish pricing, I withdrew my device from their services. Upon my withdrawal, they "kindly" offered me the "discounted" $900 option to just get photos back. Ridiculous. After calling 5 different businesses in the Bay Area - ALL 5 of which by the way QUOTED ME LESS THAN $1000 for full data recovery - I went with a local San Francisco based company. In the end, I paid only $450 total to an extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and capable company, through which I got nearly 100% of all of my data: 1000's upon 1000's of photos, Word/Powerpoint/Excel documents, resumes, work, and more. EVEN WORSE: The company that successfully got me my data back told me the water damage HAD NOT IN FACT CORRUPTED MY DATA (WHILE Drive Savers CLAIMED IT HAD!). During the local company's recovery process, it was found that it appeared as if someone else had found all my data, and deleted all of it (!) along with my entire User profile! The only other company who has ever had access to my laptop since I've owned it is DRIVE SAVERS - you do the math! I learned not only is it possible Drive Savers DELIBERATELY ERASED MY DATA & entire User profile, but that they have a contract with Apple - falling in a legal "grey area" - through which Apple refers their customers nationwide to DriveSavers in return for a kickback. I was referred to drivesavers to recover my data on my iphone 12pro max that i cannot access anymore. After talking on the phone with a driver saver employee he gave me a estimate (quite high- $700-3900) and also said it was pretty guaranteed they can get my info out for me and send it on a hard drive that's transferrable to another device. I send my phone in and within hours of them receiving it, i get a call from them saying they cannot get my information out. My phone is in perfect condition, no water damage, not melted thru a fire, nothing. I find it hard to believe they cant access my data using their "top notch equipment" and if that was the case how come they didnt tell me that over the phone before i waste time sending it in. They sent me a cost estimate with nearly 4k for their service (without providing details how they get to this cost) and the premise that my data will likely to be recovered (and I accepted the deal). If I could give a Negative 5 Stars I would. This is a 2-part review. My experience and then my attempt to contact higherups and resolve the situation. I was so upset because of how they handled this that I left a negative review on Yelp. I then thought about it and could not believe this company would try and scam someone like I feel they did then ruin my HD. I was told the drive had been imaged (meaning it was recovered), but they had not open the HD or done anything else to it. I thought the right thing to do was approach the owner directly. Part 2: I have never left a negative review for any business. This time I must so no one else experiences what I did. I should have read all the 1 Star reviews before going to them. I had a perfectly good 6T drive with 10 years of files on it. I run a commercial photography studio and have a large computer tower that I have multiple large drives in. I was replacing my main SSD when I damaged the connector on the 6T drive. I called them and ran the drive over right away and was quoted between $900 and $3900. I explained that the files were intact and just the drive connector was damaged. I am very computer savvy, but I was not aware that the PCB board can easily be replaced by removing a few screws and replacing it (and I explained to them I had an identical drive and board bought from the same HD lot). I have my initial Yelp review below this 1. I thought I would try and contact the owner JAY HAGAN on April 2, 2021 thru LinkedIn, but received no response. I then contacted GARY BLOUNT (Director of Global Sales) on April 5, 2021 and he referred me to LORRAINE DAVIS (Customer Care Manager) on April 12, 2021, who ignored my LinkedIn message. Part 1: Here is my original review: I am NOT happy AT ALL. I thought I was going to get honest and professional service and I am fairly computer savvy. In retrospect I really think they were trying to pull a fast one. I damaged the SATA connector on a hard drive (while changing a different drive}. I called, explained the situation and clearly explained that the files were intact, I had just damaged the connector. This was on a Friday. They quoted me $900 to $3900, which seemed pretty steep, but I needed the files since my backup was not as current. I later found out that HO PCB boards can be replaced and inexpensively, which means it should have been easy to fix. So Monday rolls past and I called and talked with Patty and explained again, along with the new info,I had on the PCB board replacement. She said she would expedite things and find out. No call back. I called and said I was not happy and wanted the drive back, I was then moved up to a supervisor who was very rude, asked me if I had a clean room and said this is like doing heart surgery. I asked what had been done. She finally said the drive was imaged (meaning it could be copied to a new drive). I asked if they opened the sealed drive and she said no. I said I wanted it back and picked it up today. I had a matching PCB board from an identical drive because I had bought them at the same time. The boards are identical! Now the drive is unrecognized and useless. I moved the board back and forth with the other drive so I know it ts working.
