I KNEW the fact that there were no recent yelp reviews from this company meant I shouldn't use them. But the old reviews were so good I couldn't resist. So here is my 2020 experience for anyone trying to decide if this is the moving/storage company to go with. On a Friday, I reserved a time on their website and received a "Reservation Successful" confirmation on their site (which I kept and screenshotted to document things). However I did NOT receive a confirmation email or phone call. I figured it might be a closed for the weekend issue so I called on Monday to check in. The guy answered promptly (good), but said essentially "nope we have no record of your reservation and we're booked now for your date and there's nothing we can do about it." Like not even the smallest note of apology for a false confirmation of my reservation much less the slightest attempt to do anything to fix it. Could just be my experience or Covid times. This approach to moving sounds like a dream come true, so if other people have a good experience, please post it here so others know. But my experience was not only bad, but gave no sign that the company has any policy of trying to fix things when they mess up. **UPDATE: the company responded below that he did attempt to fix it by saying there would be nobody in the office til that evening but they could look at their availability then. But I didn't perceive this as an attempt to fix things because he said it was so unlikely they would able to do anything about it that I should book other movers in the meantime. Furthermore, I REALLY don't appreciate the suggestion that my screenshot is somehow illegitimate. Sure, you guys don't know me, but come on, how many people would take the time to find a way to fake a confirmation page just so they could back up a crappy yelp review? I really am not trying to unfairly trash this company -- if someone else has a good experience with them please post it, I would love for a service like this to turn out to be a good go-to. read more

I have had my things in a storage locker for about a year and now need them as I am moving. There were no issues moving out they showed up on time, I loaded my things and they gave me a key and said when I want my things back to call and they will deliver them. Since then I have paid on time every month when they sent the bill. I emailed the customer service line inquiring about the delivery process next Saturday saying I would need my things on August 15th. When I did not hear from them, I called on Wednesday with a voicemail reiterating the same thing. Again, no one reached out. After calling and leaving two more voicemails today I finally received a text earlier today they are only doing outbound customer service and to text the number about my inquiry. I texted them and still have no response. I have paid over $2,000 dollars to this company to store my things the past year and they still have my belongings with no one telling me if I can get them back. I'm writing this review as a desperate attempt for someone at the company to actually call me and tell me they can bring me back my belongings. I reviewed them before as the initial service was smooth. Some time back they raised their rates and i was never informed though they said emails were out. Anyway they offered not to increase if I wrote a review which I did. However they never decreased the rate as promised - I have the email in writing. Fast forward during Covid I lost my job and asked if they could apply the reduction and they refused despite me showing the email. Andy was very responsive and accommodating. He made a stressful process SO much easier. I was able to book the time I needed. Having the storage unit come to you is an ingenious idea and I can't think of doing it any other way. The best part is you this convenience is not cheaper than luggage your stuff to a storage place somewhere in Manhattan. Living in Manhattan, I was concerned the the driver might be late getting stuck in traffic but Angel came right on time - maybe a little early. I've been using DriveUp Storage for over 6 months during my complicated life transition of buying and renovating my new home. This service is phenomenal and hassle free and the customer service they provide is great. There's plenty of storage and transport companies out there but I ultimately went with them because they offered ample storage for a one bedroom, I can provide my own lock, they transport the storage unit without touching my belongings to and from where I need it. I also ventured out to my storage unit during the fall to pick up my clothes and the facility is safe and clean. Their crew even gave me a ride back into the city! I can't recommend them enough and would definitely use them for my next move... which after this is hopefully never. read more

The scheduled appointment times for pick-up and drop off we're met, without a hitch! They were very flexible and accommodating to my requests. We all know that moving can be a hassle but the pod service from DriveUp, made my move experience much easier. It took the hassle out of having to pack and then unload twice . Instead I packed my things in the pod, locked it up and everything was hauled off to be stored. I think DriveUp Storage provides the perfect solution for those in the Metro Area that don't have a vehicle and don't want to go through 7 steps of moving and storage to get their possessions in another location. Some things to note: 1) Going to Brooklyn there was a additional toll charge. 2) 2 months minimum storage, but its worth it since their 1st hour of pick up was free. I needed storage for about half a year and did a lot of research online for different companies and prices. Ultimately I went with DriveUp Storage due to the Yelp reviews and the price. The idea of driving the storage unit to your place and loading the items knowing that's exactly how they will be kept (and will not need to be moved around again) is brilliant. They would provide you the agreement ahead of time so you could read through before the contract starts. Andy assisted me throughout the whole process and was very responsive, either through email or by phone. He provided me with very accurate fee quote (no hidden fees), helped with various questions I had on the lock for the storage unit, details of the agreement, and visits to the storage unit. I hired their movers both times. Once to pick up from Queens to their facility in Verona, NJ, and another time to drop off my stuff from the facility to my new apartment. My stuff was there for about 6 months and were in very decent condition. The movers were priced at $140 an hour (includes 2 people) with a minimum of 2 hours. They were quick and very efficient and finished my moves under 2 hours with time to spare and even helped me put my bed frame together :) Since their facility is in Verona, NJ, there would be a toll fee if they come to NYC, which I thought was reasonable. They also provide you the option to visit the facility if needed, as long as you give them notice in advanced. Scheduling for both of my moves were easy. They gave me a heads up on ETA both times and would also let me know if they got into traffic...etc. The contract starts the day you begin renting the storage and when I ended the agreement earlier before it reached the full 6 months, so they pro-rated the difference based on days, which was nice. Overall it was truly a great experience, highly recommend them and you can not beat the price. If I ever need storage again, I will not hesitate to reach out to them again. read more

The drive-up storage concept is awesome and cut my moving efforts in half. They were incredibly flexible in scheduling my pick up and deliveries and showed up right on time. Nothing was broken or damaged in my moving process, but they do have an option to purchase really affordable insurance. I felt very comfortable knowing that I had put my own lock on the unit and it was untouched until it arrived at my place. I would definitely recommend this service. read more

Had a great experience with DriveUp. Used them to store the entirety of my one bedroom apartment for two months while I was traveling and in between apartment leases. It cut the amount of moving I had to do in half (only into the truck rather than off the truck and into a storage unit). Driveup will also contract movers for you, who are a bit cheaper hourly than anyone else I found in the city. Also, for the amount of space I needed, any storage unit in Manhattan or Brooklyn was at least double per month. The best part was how they handled a problem. You know when the company messes up and you dread calling customer service 1. because they act like robots and 2. because they never want to take any blame.. well with DriveUp I dealt with the same person on the phone every time I called, and he also rectified the problem with the truck scheduling I had, reimbursing me completely for the extra expenses I incurred because of the reschedule- in fact they offered to reimburse me, I didn't even have to ask. This is an amazing service for storage needs! Setting up storage is easy, and they will deliver the storage unit directly to your doorstep so that you (or your movers) can pack in your stuff. There are similar services such as Box Butler or Make Space, but they didn't meet my needs because I needed to stash several pieces of furniture along with all my boxes and large bags. I had drama with my previous slumlord and needed the move during late night hours - I called customer service to see if there was any way they could help me out and Andy was amazing. I had several other requests and they truly did everything feasible to help me out. Jon delivered the unit to me and when I ultimately ran into some "challenges," stayed calm, professional and super helpful. When I ran through the numbers, there's no question on how great the pricing is! I'm paying approx. 1/3 of what I was paying at Manhattan Mini Storage in Chelsea. A THIRD! Andy and the team are very professional with exceptional customer service. Scheduling and loading up the pod was easy and the team are flexible on timing and very communicative on traffic etc. They arrived early but did not start the timing until our scheduled start. I had friends come to help me load boxes and furniture but it's great to know that they can help you out if you need. The size of the pod was more than enough for a two-bedroom apartment. Bad weather interrupted the delivery of the pod back to me but Andy was very communicative the day before and morning of our scheduled delivery. He was great at offering a variety of different options to help resolve the problem (which he obviously had no control over). Absolutely would recommend using DriveUp Storage to anyone. Fantastic service. THE most convenient storage service in the city and always prompt, courteous, and friendly. It had more space and was cheaper than a traditional storage unit once you factor in renting a van/truck, also saved me nearly two days of total work. If you are packing anything tall make sure you have rope, because they do drive your stuff to the storage location. I tied up my bed and neatly stacked everything else. This company's service is genius! Storage in Manhattan is expensive and a major pain. It's also not easy to carry all your crap back and forth. Having the storage unit come to you rocks! Drive Up storage is a fantastic service that was very flexible with our needs! My roommate and I were moving from my apartment and had different move in dates. She needed her things about 4 days later while I needed my a month later. We didn't need to worry about going to a storage unit or loading things from our pod to a unit. We just loaded things up into a truck and then loaded from the truck as need be. I would say timing was not the best in terms of the bus getting there at the exact time we needed it, but that was due to the a NYC traffic more than anything else. Disclaimer - I was offered $25 refund to write this review. Yet, I would probably have written the review even if they didn't offer this incentive. The basic business idea of DriveUp Storage is brilliant. The basic idea is to "skip" a step in the moving process - by having the "storage facility" (the actual container that your stuff will be stored in) drive up in front of your place, you load up your boxes and the storage facility leaves. Here is my situation. I had to move out of my place, but I didn't have a place to move into yet. So I was looking at renting a storage space, but also needed to rent a car to move my stuff. I would have had to move my stuff, from my place - into a truck, drive the truck to the storage facility and then offload the whole lot. Whenever I needed to move in to my new place, I would have to rent a truck again, load my stuff to the truck, drive to the new place and offload into my new place. Yikes... We've all done it and everybody knows that it sucks! With DriveUp Storage - time and energy saved. I loaded my boxes from my place into the storage box and waved the driver goodbye. A month later I called them and gave them my new address. They charged the second month after 30 days (yet, if you give them a heads up you will only pay $7 per day). So the math goes as follows: Free pickup (with 2 hour waiting). $213 a month for the 8ft by 12ft container. After 30 days they charge another $213 (for the second month). Since I only used the 7 days of the second month they refund me $164 (214 minus $7 * 7days). Delivery is a flat fee of $120 plus tolls ($30) for the bridge (their storage facility is in NJ) So my total expense for the move, which in my opinion was hassle free was ($213 + $49 + $150 + $10 lock for the container) = $422 + tips. I tipped the guys well cause they deserved it. They were very helpful and nice. The pricing is very transparent, which is something that in my opinion is lacking in the moving and storage industry. I think most people know that when you call for the $19.99 U-Haul you end up paying much more. read more

I have searched different companies, they have the most affordable price and easy procedure. Very simple.They use one standard storage room that is actually biiiiig enough for many people. Other companies charge much higher for this size of room. And how can you be very sure about what size fits when you haven't packed everything up? Also they provide multiple services that you may need and help me to change the pick-up and delivery schedule quickly. Customer service really good. Definitely reduced my stress. 4.5 stars rounded up. We were moving from one apartment to another within the city, with a month in between. We used DriveUp Storage twice -- once to pickup all our furniture and belongings from our old apartment, and a second time to drop off everything at our new place. We had a medium sized one bedroom, and everything fit, including our enormous couch. That being said, if you have a two bedroom, you might have a harder time. Just make sure beforehand since the truck was smaller that we'd initially expected. We chose DriveUp Storage because it's fees were cheaper than hiring movers and dropping stuff off at storage facilities, and cheaper than other similar storage pods. Since we didn't have a lot of stuff (medium one bedroom), the storage truck size worked for us. (Keep in mind though that they charge you for tolls.) They are easy to reach over email and when we asked to reschedule due to Winter Storm Stella last minute, they were very accommodating and flexible. Packing everything into the truck was pretty seamless. The driver arrived about 20-30 minutes earlier than the one hour window we booked, but didn't charge us for the initial 20-30 minutes before the appointment window, so we had more time to pack everything in. But when they delivered the truck, they arrived a little later than the one hour window. For that reason, I'm deducting half a star. But they were flexible in scheduling, honored an initial quote they gave us and we had a generally stress-free experience with them, so rounding up. read more

I found out about DriveUp Storage through Living Social, and it is the best deal I've ever purchased. I had to put all the contents in my apartment to storage for a couple of months. Jonathan was extremely professional and pleasant to deal with. The movers were so efficient loading all my furniture into the truck back in May. I just scheduled a a drop off with them two days ago and it went smoothly. It is the best movers I've ever used and such a great value. I want to run around Manhattan screaming about how amazing this company is. My driver arrived 25 minutes before the scheduled time and I started moving in immediately. The unit was plenty big for us (we had a 1 bedroom with a ton of music equipment). Took us around an hour and a half to load everything in, and the extra 30 minutes is only $30 which is incredible. We bought our own padlock, otherwise you have to pay for the one they bring to you. The tolls coming into Manhattan were a bit pricey at $42, but that's Manhattan! We opted for full coverage insurance which rounds out each month at around $260 which is a STEAL. No issues with hidden fees or anything shady, all the paperwork was sent in advance so I had plenty of time to read it before signing on site. Once we get our unit back in January I'll update on the condition of our items, but so far this company is A+ and I wouldn't use anyone else! EDIT: I'm late, but we got our things out of storage in January 2017 just as easy as we packed them away. Zero issues. We could have packed the unit better but that's our problem. Hahaha! These guys are pros! My experience with DriveUp was quick and painless. I'm acutely aware that storage is a service industry and DriveUp has a clear understanding of this. The pricing is fair and equitable especially considering how well they took care of my furniture. My appointments with them were always convenient and ON TIME. Very refreshing in an industry that is typically run so close to the bottom line. Even though my need was very short term, while we moved offices, I felt like I was getting all of their time and attention whenever I called or met with them. The convenience of not having to schlep all this stuff out to a storage facility and back saved me so much hassle. I don't think DriveUp could have made my moving and storage any easier unless the furniture had moved itself. At the end of an indescribably arduous search for an apartment (a nearly universal experience in New York City), my roommate and I decided to hold out for the right apartment and put our things in storage for an undetermined period of time. These are genuinely decent human beings, and they and their business have far exceeded my expectations. My brothers and I were moving from NYC to NJ and weren't quite sure how long it would take to get a new place. So, we started with one month of storage. It was a pleasure dealing with Andy and the whole Drive Up crew. Andy scheduled our pick up at the exact time we wanted. They were right on time and anyone who has moved in or out of the city knows a lot can go wrong moving. We were able to get all of our stuff in the container with plenty of room leftover. It was so much nicer not to have to pick up a moving truck and find a spot and have someone watch the truck. Our new place was delayed a month and Andy made it hassle free for us. He scheduled our drop off exactly when we needed it. Again, not having to go pick up another moving truck and go through the extra moving of belongings makes all the difference in the world! Jonathan is very professional and even helped me get some professional movers to load the stuff in the drive-up storage unit which conveniently came to our apartment. The best part was the unloading aspect. I moved to Boston recently and Jonathan drove the unit directly to my home. It was very convenient to unpack the stuff from the unit directly parked outside my driveway! I saved both time and money in hiring any movers. Thanks to driveup storage I was able to move out of my apartment quickly and efficiently on short notice. I called them and they came the next day. I payed a little extra to have them bring movers but was well worth the cost. They treated my stuff respectfully and all the contents of my one bedroom apartment easily fit in the storage unit. When I found a new apartment 2 months later (I stayed with friends in the meantime) they arrived at my doorstep with all my stuff as it had been packed when I moved out. This time, I moved myself even though the guy driving offered to help. Would definitely recommend: easy efficient storage process, great customer service and competitive prices. read more
