I used Drive Up Storage from May to October 2014 to hold a 1 br apartment's worth of stuff while traveling. From the outset, the customer service was superior to any other storage place. The concept of showing up with a stackable storage crate is brilliant, and I think will evolve the way people ship and store items in the future. The rates are somewhat higher than you might pay for a regular, static storage unit, which may make them best for shorter duration storage. However, you save the hassle of needing to load everything and then unload it twice, and the associated cost of hiring movers or breaking your own back to accomplish this. They showed up on time, and had a recommended moving service come to aid in my move. That moving service was okay, but got the job done, and I was able to pay for the entire thing right there on an iPad when completed. Andy, the manager, is always available to discuss your particular case, and for me, he was able to organize having the manager on-site in NJ work with my movers directly when I needed to ship my items from storage to my new location in CA, without my needing to make the trip out there. Thank you so much to DriveUp storage for such a pleasant and efficient move out and move back in process during our apartment renovations. This particular storage situation was ideal for us, as we had purged a lot of heavy, older furniture prior to the renovation move out of our apartment. So with the help of a few friends, we were able to quickly transport boxes between our apartment & the storage truck/container that was parked right outside the back entrance to our building. Moving items directly into the truck/storage container cuts down all the extra shuffling back and forth from apartment to vehicle to storage and then back again to vehicle and finally to apartment. Additionally, you are entirely in control over how things are packed and positioned within the container and can rest assured that everything will remain exactly the way you leave it when you lock up the container with your own combo lock. I hired DriveUp Storage for a storage solution for some inherited furniture for a few months as I transitioned from a Brooklyn apartment to a New Jersey home. Having them drive to our location with the pod on the truck was the best solution - all we had to do was load the truck ourselves and then wave goodbye. It was such a relief and better option for us to not have to worry about renting and driving a moving van through Manhattan and the Lincoln Tunnel and then unloading at a storage facility. After we arrived in NJ, we were able to call and arrange a very quick delivery date and time, and again, the truck brought our furniture right to our house and we unloaded it ourselves. Both times of interaction, the drivers communicated that they were on the way and were polite and pleasant. I would use this company again and would recommend to others. I knew I would be moving from the Upper West Side to somewhere else in the city, but was going to be out of town for a few months before finding a place and needed somewhere to move and store my stuff. I called around to several different movers / storage companies, and they all turned out to be much more expensive than my very modest budget. DriveUp Storage was very affordable and convenient. They were punctual on both the load and drop off -- they simply drove up and parked right outside my apartment, which made loading and unloading as easy as enlisting two of my friends. I kept my items in storage with DriveUp Storage for 4 months, and they were in the exact same condition when I unloaded them. Admittedly, they waive a $25 fee if you give them a good review on yelp. I still wouldn't write a good review without meaning it. I called on Sunday afternoon, from an hour outside of NYC, and needed some things moved into storage same day. Andy did his best to work something out, and offered after 7, which was acceptable. A few minutes later, he called me back and said someone was on the way, would be there in an hour, which was brilliant. The driver (Paul) was there in just over an hour, was very friendly, and had a padlock on hand ($10), which was great, since I didn't. The pod was clean. The price was less than half of what I'd been quite by pods.com. the storage charges are reasonable. You still have to load things yourself, but these guys really simplify moves. Contracts were signed via iPad. I'd recommend them based on my experience so far. read more

After reading all the positive reviews, we felt confident about this company. We made a reservation on 3:30, on 3:00 we got a call from them saying they will be late for half hour, understandable, given the traffic in Manhattan. On 4:00 they told me they will be late for another hour. Ok what's going on? We asked them why they are so late, the guy on the phone was really rude, he yelled at me and told me they can not do anything about it. We felt so helpless and waited for another hour. On 5:00, guess what, they told me they needed another hour. I am so confused why they can get all these positive reviews. I decided to use DriveUp storage to avoid the hassle of unloading and loading the track at a storage facility - something that one needs to do with a standard self-storage service. DriveUp truck showed up right on time and the guy - his name is Jonathan - was super patient waiting till movers complete loading the truck. Also Jonathan was nice enough to return back to my place a few minutes after leaving when it was realized that movers forgot to load a few small pieces of furniture onto the truck! I didn't quite understand what Jonathan meant by bringing the unit to me, so I was pleasantly surprised when I visited their facility and saw that it was like a small-scale cargo yard. Very prompt and user-friendly. I stored my belongings from my one-bedroom apartment for 10 months, and there was enough space to pack more boxes in the storage unit before my move.
