Not funny, no food (unless you count chips and salsa as food), and not entertaining. Perhaps it was funnier at other shows, but even after three drinks before the show I really wasn't into it. I left early, after about 45 minutes of forced laughter, after one actress was drunk. Not sure how this got such positive reviews...nothing clever unless you think drinking is super entertaining and want to be touched/talked to by the actors? Or maybe if you're fresh out of undergrad this would be funny? Skip if you are over 25 years old. This is nothing like "sleep no more" or any of the other immersive theater experiences. read more

Had a great time! What could be better than getting drunk and listening to Shakespeare being performed by increasingly inebriated actors?

A fun silly drunken night, and the booze definitely helps to make it even more fun. I didn't quite know what to expect, but to sum it up - Tequila meets Shakespeare plus improv mixed with audience participation and drama with a side of dance party...did you get any of that? Bottom line is that this is a talented and down to earth troupe of actor. Once particular actor is selected to get blitzed out of his mind and the troupe then acts out the entire play as he continues his downward spiral. As a group, they take a lot of liberties in improving, ad-libbing and adding scenes and lines which makes Shakespeare a bit more tolerable (I'm sure some purists will hate me for that comment). There are moments when the actors' talents really do shine, which is a great contrast to the over the top silliness and drunken fun that goes on for a majority of the night. There are some parts, especially towards the end, that get a bit inaudible and chaotic, especially when they try to run the show with Parliamentary Procedure (yelling out "point of order/inquiry" or "drunken point of order") and cutting back into the show by yelling "321 Shakespeare". And of course, since there is a fair amount of audience participation, the unruliness could also be partly determined by the hyperness of audience members - the drunker and louder the audience, the more off topic and chaotic the show can seem. Overall it makes for a very interesting experience. If you are looking for an all around silly, drunken, no-rules and no inhibitions kind of evening, this is a good experience to try. If you're a fan of the box, the rules, and keeping to the classics, make sure you let your guard down and hold back judgements. After all, the point is to have fun, let loose and watch this troupe as they attempt to make their mark on the classics in a drunken way. This was TERRIBLE! I thought it had a chance to be fun after reading the reviews but the "drunk" Asian actress was SUPER annoying and seemed to not even be drunk (just faking it). I'm surprised how this got onto the off Broadway list! I've seen many smaller plays which have been brilliant and one would come to New York to see a nicely staged play. This was nothing short of a drunken conversation in a library or something! Ridiculous and even more that the lady collecting tickets made huge cry over letting us get one more ticket for a friend to sit with us. Trust me when she says stage side and mezzanine .. The stage side is equivalent to a bunch of people one the other side of a book shelf and the mezzanine is people sitting in front of the book shelf. Just two rows. That's it! This show was absolutely incredible! Blew my expectations out of the water, and there's most definitely a great time to be had by all kinds of audience members! As literary nerds, my friend and I knew the source material, so we got a little more out of it than the average goer. With that being said, there's so much more going on in addition to just drunk actors reciting Shakespeare. They interact with the audience, they incorporate modern jokes and gags, they break character to hilarious effect. I cannot wait to go back, because each showing is different than the last. And at only 90ish minutes, it's a easy commitment! As you can imagine, the audience is encouraged to drink, and have fun, and cheer and laugh and allll that stuff. It's fantastic. BUT there was one couple--a guy, the pretentious SLR-camera-carrying type with an knit scarf that looked like he got it from the trash; and his girlfriend, a mousy thing that can't hold her alcohol, in an equally hideous knit sweater--who showed up trashed and left even more trashed. They would not stop talking to each other, raising their voices above that of the actors' at some points; they even interrupted the show to complain they wanted someone to take their drink order. These entitled brats were pure trash, like shit-you-scrape-off-your-boot trash. You would not think you could be obnoxious at a performance of "Drunk Shakespeare" because --well-- everyone's kind of drunk and having a good time. But these two managed. Totally disrespectful of the actors and everyone in the room from start to finish. But you know what? The actors remained un-fucking-phased, only stopping to address the two crotch-goblins when absolutely necessary. That is to say, this is not a complaint, but rather a lot of praise at how well they handled the situation. (But shame on those two fuckleheads). Love you all and fabulous job! read more

On a whim my husband and I got tickets. We love Shakespeare and this performance was a delight the actors know their Shakespeare as well as anyone I've seen. They have to so that they can riff as well as they do. This performance is not for anyone who is prudish or doesn't have a darn good sense of humor, it gets bawdy to say the least. Incredible experience!! The actors were incredibly talented. Aubrey Taylor was the drunk actor for the evening and she was absolutely outstanding!! The first time I went to drunk Shakespeare I had a great time. I had such a great time that I decided to bring my coworkers. This turned out to be a mistake. Balcony seats sold out before two of my coworkers could buy tickets. Two of our groupons didn't go through. Well worth your time. The crew of Shakespearean actors, who clearly love Shakespeare, have found a way to make something 400 years old seem timely and vibrant. OMG. Saw the 10pm show of MacBeth last Friday. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time! Adam was amazing (as the drunk one-he had to do both shows and I don't know how he even was standing by the end of the 10 O'Clock one!). Loved the library intimate setting. This place is a hoot. I laughed the entire time. The actors seem to be having a really good time together - and not just because one of them has too much to drink. In fact, the actor that did all those shots performed quite well considering how much he consumed. Giving bold new meaning to the word "functional drunk". If you're in New York City you owe it to yourself to check out Drunk Shakespeare. Now, I've been to multiple Broadway shows, Upright Citizens Brigade performances, and even to Second City and Improv Shakespeare in Chicago and having seen all those I can say with confidence that Drunk Shakespeare offers something wholly unique and fantastically entertaining. I saw MacBeth when I went (I don't know if they do different plays or not, but I have already purchased tickets again to find out) and basically what happens is they pick a lead actor to play the main character - and to imbibe more than a fair share of alcohol - and from there they perform the play with just a tad of creative license and copious amounts of audience participation and improvisational moments. The humor runs the gamut from crass to topical to genuinely clever improv, and everything inbetween. In the end it's an impressive display of comedy and alcohol consumption. So with all that said, go buy tickets now and here are some Pro Tips for you: 1. If you're sitting on the main floor be prepared to get involved 2. Buy tickets for the main floor 3. The venue is a little sketchy on face value, and they share the floor with the LOL Comedy Club so don't be alarmed if it's not everything you were expecting when you get there. Rest assured the actual performance area is comfortable and well suited for the show. 4. Bring a group of people and enjoy! read more
