Love the Drybar in Chestnut Hill. I used to go all the time when I lived near by for college and it was so great to go back and have it be everything I remembered! It was super busy when I went but I didn't feel like my stylist rushed at all and my hair looked amazing afterwards. It was so relaxing and fun. Last time I went they didn't have a liquor license yet and so the added Champagne perk this time was a bonus!! :) read more

I love the concept of Dry Bar. It is such a treat to be able to get style your hair! However, the quality of the staff is very inconsistent. Definite draw back is that you can not book an appointment with a specific person. I have had some really nice stylists who were friendly and did a great job (only 1 or 2). Many times it is someone who is in a bad mood, yanks out your hair during the process, and doesn't even give you the style you asked for! By then end I have been so frustrated that I don't even want to have that person touch my hair anymore. I guess it could be ok for people who just want their hair blown out straight? read more

Went for a blowout for my birthday and was disappointed. Staff and stylist were unfriendly, stylist didn't introduce herself so I'm not even sure of her name. Not the experience I was hoping for, especially for the price. I have been a drybar barfly (member) for years. This location always rubs me the wrong way. Most recent example: I stopped by to show them that the dry shampoo I had purchased stopped working from the nozzle and half the product was still left inside the bottle. I asked if it could be exchanged out for another - I even said it did not need to be new, they could give me a tester, etc, just wanted the nozzle to work. The receptionist asked me to wait as the manager had stepped out. So I stood for 10 minutes at the front waiting. She then returned to tell me they could not exchange it. that was all. No explanation. I highly recommend customers buy their products from Sephora, elsewhere, etc, where they will at least exchange out faulty product. It seems ridiculous that the place from which the product is from, will not help when something goes wrong...disappointing. read more

I gave Dry Bar 2 stars because I liked how my hair came out, but...I showed up 10 minutes early for my appointment. At 2:45 3 women walked in and were seen almost immediately. I patiently waited, but when I got to the 25 minute mark I had enough. I asked the receptionist how much longer and reminded her I had been waiting 25 minutes now - she shot me a look as if I was a jerk for speaking to her and told me it shouldn't be much longer. I would never recommend Dry Bar to anyone after being treated so rudely...and the delay was beyond unprofessional. I understand 10, maybe even 15 but 30 minutes...no thank you! I also felt bad for my stylist. One of the receptionists was trying to bully her in to taking on an extra client, when she already had someone coming in that specifically requested her...which would make their appointment late!!!! read more

Don't waste your time or money! I got there 15 minutes early, and I waited for 1 hour to be seen. The whole point of this place is to get your hair done for an event, well it's pointless if you miss your event because they were late!! The woman who blow dried my hair, was pulling out my hair and it was completely broken and brittle when I left there. I WILL NEVER GO BACK !! I can do my hair better myself. read more

I do have to say that I love the style in there, it's super clean and fun. I asked for a CosmoTai style, so a mixture of loose beach waves and a small amount of just loose waves. The stylist was very friendly and nice, however I was in physical pain quite a bit from her yanking on my head. I actually had a headache when I returned home. I was also burned a few different times by the curling iron. I enjoyed the free champagne and magazines while getting my hair done, as I was there for about 2 hours. Unfortunately I wanted LOOSE beachy waves with texture and when I came home and looked in the mirror it honestly looked like I was going to prom. My curls were extremely tight, and filled with so much hairspray they didn't move. I wanted just a casual look and got red carpet. I appreciate the long hours of work on my hair, but it really wasn't what I was looking for. Not sure if I'll be back. read more

Today was my daughter's first visit to Drybar in Chestnut Hill. Thanks to Kathy and all the ladies for making it a positive experience! My daughter has long, thick, curly hair which does not always get a positive reception from many stylists. Kathy was able to tame the mess and was even smiling at the end! They offered us drinks and checked in to make sure we were comfortable. We will be back (may even consider the monthly membership). read more

I called and made an appointment at DryBar. When I got there they did not have the appointment on the schedule. I told them which # I called with a local 617 area code and they told me that they don't have a 617 phone #. I actually dialed the # in front of the receptionist and in fact it was the correct number. How can an employee not know the phone #? It was a little bizarre. To continue with the bizarre, on a sunny day in June the TVs were playing "How the Grinch Stole Christmas". I can't imagine that grown woman are interested in watching that movie with the possible exception of holiday time? It was a rather odd choice. In addition, when I was having my hair washed, the stylist got soap in my eyes. In my lengthy history of salon visits, this has never happened. My blowout was just ok. I won't be returning when BeStyled is just that much better. Sorry DryBar. Just not good enough. read more

I had a subpar experience here. I'll play it out for you: Came in at 2:25 for a 2:30 appt. They say not to be late because they can give your appt away, so I made sure to be early. I checked in and asked if I could go to the bathroom. The receptionist (and manager) said "sure". I waited from 2:28- 2:38. Apparently the stylist I was supposed to have took someone else and so the stylist who was supposed to have the other customer didn't know she was looking for me. Poor management, but fine, it happens. No disrespect to my stylist as she was a nice lady, but she had no idea what she was doing. I do have long hair, so I expect an average of 50 minutes for a blow dry. At an hour, I said that I'd have to leave. The stylist could tell I wasn't happy ( I told her the hair didn't look bad, but it didn't look great). She was nice and tried to fix it, but I had to leave. As I was paying, the manager asked if she could change anything. I said no thanks as I had to leave, but I did ask how the mix up happened. This question apparently was extremely offensive as she changed personas completely. She was defensive and rude, stating that " we only took you 8 minutes late. I don't know what you want or what the problem is". To that I relied that I wasn't asking for an explanation (nor was I particularly upset) about the lateness as I know that can happen, but that I was asking HOW it happened. If DryBar specifically makes a point to ask their customers NOT to be late, and I was early, the least they could have done was apologize for the mix up. Most importantly, I told the manager " whether you think I'm right or wrong, as the manager, you don't have to be rude or snarky. It's just not right or nice". With that, I paid, tipped and left. Unfortunately, it left a bad taste in my mouth. I'm surprised, but maybe, given the less than stellar reviews that occupy this page, I shouldn't have been surprised. It's too bad and I'm bummed because I live close and would have loved to frequent this place. DryBar, you just lost a customer. I'll be going to Bstyled from now on. read more

Great blow outs but they are consistently running 15-20 minutes behind every time I've gone. It's annoying when you make an appointment, show up 5 minutes early and then have to wait 15-20 minutes past your appointment time. It would be nice if the receptionist would mention that they are running behind but she never does. Make sure to take in to account an extra 20 minutes when making your appointment if you need to be somewhere after. read more

Loved this place when it opened in November 2013. It has rapidly gone downhill. This is no reflection on the stylists. They are all capable and pleasant and do a good job. My complaint is that it started out feeling like such a treat and now feels like a mill. If there's anyone to receive/greet you they're unpleasant and surly at best. You may or may not be asked if you'd like a beverage and if you are it most likely won't appear until you're in the middle of your blowout and can only stare longingly at it while it grows cold. The water temperature goes from scalding to freezing in a nanosecond, the ceiling is dirty. It must be hard to get good help. read more

So I typically go to drybar in Back Bay where I have had great experiences. Don't waste your time in Chestnut Hill. And here's why: Instead of the luxe feel that dry bar advertises, this location is filthy. All of the flowers in vases were dead. The receptionist didn't offer so much as water. I could overlook all of that but I was also taken 20 minutes late, I understand things happen in a salon and didn't really mind but things continued to go downhill from there. My hair was washed quickly and my top was soaked. I showed the stylist several pictures of how I wanted my hair to look, including one of myself after a Back Bay drybar blowout. I asked for straight with some movement which she decided really meant weirdly curled on top. My hair looked terrible. I complained and another stylist attempted to fix it which only made it worse. At this point I had been there almost 2 hours. I decided to cut my losses and leave. After wasting my time and money, I now had to go home and rewash and redry my hair myself. I attended a wedding this past weekend and I was really excited to treat myself and go to the dry bar to get my hair done. I had gone once before to a different location and really loved the experience. Unfortunately it was not the case this time. I told the hair dresser I needed it to stay because the wedding was later on in the day, my hair feel out and was almost completely straight by the time I got home, and my hair holds curls pretty well, I then had to do most of my hair by myself. My hair dresser answered a call in the middle of my appointment, and never introduced herself. It was not worth the money this time and I wouldn't do it again. You are better off just doing it yourself. read more

I've been to drybar dozens of times in NYC - had the worst experience here. 1) no hospitality when I walked in - and the receptionist said to "put my stuff in the corner" when I asked to hang my coat up. What?! 2) everyone here looks so sad and miserable. They weren't even that busy. Yet too busy to offer or bring me water when I asked. 3) $45 here - pricier. 4) my stylist did not want to curl my hair and showed me a half-assed curl. She was so miserable and sighing 100 times I just wanted to get out of the chair. She straightened my hair and it looks decent. I was so looking forward to a nice treat for myself. So I went to Dry Bar on a recommendation from my friend at work and I am SO gad I went! A salon that washes your hair and blow dries it out however you want it! Straight, a little curl at the bottom, a lot of volume and curl, basically they can do whatever you ask them to do! And its for a flat fee of $40 no matter how long or how thick your hair is. I have very thick, long, frizzy unruly hair so I somewhat felt like apoligizing to the girl who was paired up with me. I showed up at 6:00pm for a 6:15pm appointment. As soon as I entered the salon, I was in love. Beautiful yellow, gray, white color coordination and movies playing "chick-flicks". The place essentially looked like a legit place to get a drink but instead there were mirrors, flowers and hair products behind the bar. The "hostess" was nice and offered me a complimentary glass of champagne, wine, sangria (i think). I sat down and in a few minutes the manager arrived with my white wine. And its not like a little pathetic pour of wine. It's a good size pour! just how I like it! Love this place already!! I met my hair stylist and noticed her nails were that stylish Rihanna cat-claw style. I got a little nervous because someone previously reviewed that she was rough during the hair washing but instead she was gentle and used the pads of her fingers to scrub my head. No problem there! She even asked me multiple times if the water temperature was okay and making sure the scrubbing wasn't too rough. She was very sweet and really seemed to enjoy her job. The blow-dry was AWESOME, I loved my results! It was exactly what I was looking for! During the end of my blow-out they had another girl hop in and help out because they wanted to get me out in time. I told you, I have a lot of hair. This wasn't the first time I had two stylists working on my hair at once. But she was so happy and excited to help out! I like that they were time-sensitive. Plus it was a Saturday night so I bet they had other people waiting! As I was checking out, they asked me if I wanted an umbrella because the snow/rain was coming down HARD. UM, Are you kidding me? A friggen umbrella!? This place just keeps getting more and more awesome! How considerate of them! But I don't blame them, they want to make sure that the hair that they just worked so hard on stays looking beautiful for the event that you're getting to. I'm hooked. I'm officially addicted. I have no patience, time or skill to be blow-drying my own hair. I MUCH rather come to Dry Bar twice a month and have them do it for me! So glad I found out about this place!! read more

I absolutely LOVE going to Drybar! They are always so accommodating and the staff is extremely friendly. They have been able to give me a blowout on a few occasions even when I hadn't made an appointment (although, I would definitely recommend making one to be safe). I am always extremely thrilled with the results! I have extremely thick hair and somehow they always manage to make it look fabulous. I go here just about any time I have to attend an event in the area. They are a little bit pricey, but the experience is SO worth the money. I have been here few times. Staff is always great. My hairstylist today was amazing. But it was so hot in there that I kept sweating. Which didn't help my hair!!!!! What kind of a salon with all those blow driers running has no AC!!! My friend went here yesterday and said it was the same thing so clearly the issue has been there. She told me to go to the Boston one but they had nothing available so I decided to come here. Terrible decision they shouldn't even be charging clients full price for that experience. read more

I went into DryBar after work this week after having booked a blowout online the day before. I arrived a bit early and checked in. I sat down and it appeared as though they were running behind. After 15 minutes or so, the lady at the front desk eventually came up to me and offered to wash my hair to speed things up, to which I agreed. About half way through my wash, the assigned stylist took over. She did not say hello or ask how I was. She did ask for my name though. I replied and she rudely demanded, "WHAT?". I repeated my name and she rudely replied, "what?" again. This happened at least another two times before the lady from the front desk repeated my name to the stylist. Then, as she's washing my hair she asks me what style I want. I pull out a picture that I'd found online and although I know drybar only offers a few styles, I was hoping my stylist would be able to help me identify which style the hair in the picture most closely resembled and get that. I told her I was not sure whether it was a cosmo or mai tai to which she rudely said, "It's obviously a cosmo." Again, I did not say anything. She then asked me a question while she washed my hair. The water was quite loud so I didn't quite catch the question. I apologized and said I didn't catch the question, then waited for her to ask me again. This time, much to my shock, she rudely yelled at me. At that point, I was so shocked, and told her to stop washing my hair. She did not ask me what was wrong nor apologize. Instead, she stormed off. The stylist was so unprofessional. I stood there for a good amount of time with wet hair until the lady from the front desk came over and asked me what happened. I informed her and she apologized. She assigned someone else to me who did a decent job (I've definitely had better). However, I am so appalled by what happened and the fact that the original stylist shortly returned back to the hair washing station after storming off with another customer and ignored me. After all of this, I was still asked to pay for my blowout and I never got to speak to a manager. The one star is not for the blowout I eventually received but for the extremely poor customer service. read more

I always want to LOVE Drybar but every time I go my experience is just OK. This was my first time to the Chestnut Hill location, I usually go to Back Bay. I arrived on time to my appointment and mentioned that I needed to be out in about an hour which they said wouldn't be a problem. They didn't take me back to get my hair washed for another 20 minutes (which resulted in the appointment taking almost 1.5 hours). The wash and blow dry was fine, I don't really have any complaints. However, when I first sat down I mentioned to my stylist that I wanted a few pieces in the front of my hair BOBBY PINNED back for a really simple look. I have had this done before at no cost. And I had photos to show exactly what I wanted. I told her I wanted to keep my part, nothing to up-do ish. Just to get the hair off my face. Well she fussed for about 5 minutes and finally must have decided that she needed a hair tie for some reason. She pulls all my hair in the front of my face back like a Snookie poof circa 2010. I couldn't see what she was doing since she has turned me away from the mirror. When she spun me to face the mirror I explained that wasn't what I was going for, I wanted something not as done up. But she said she couldn't fix it, there was too much hair spray and it would look bad if I took it down so I was stuck. Um, seriously? Fine I said, I will just go with it. However, when I go to check out the girl tells me $65, not the $45 I was expecting. When I asked why she said it was because I had an "uptini" or a simple up do. When I pressed for more info she said "basically anytime you get a hair tie in your hair it automatically becomes $20 more because its an up do". I argued with the girl for 5 minutes. Why didn't the stylist tell me this before she put the hair tie in my hair? Why didn't she ask me if that was what I wanted? PS, this wasn't what I even wanted. Needless to say, I was super annoyed. If I was going to pay $65, I would have hoped that I actually liked my hair and that I actually had an up do. So, just a warning when you go, its an extra $20 if they add a hair tie to your hair, which is some BS if you ask me. I ended up taking out the up do situation in the car and just put my hair the way I wanted it. Next time, please be transparent with your customers. Its expensive enough to have to pay $45 (and I get its all about the experience) but I wasn't expecting to spend $75 with tip. read more

Very kind, polite and professional. I have had many appointments at this location and every time my stylist is wonderful! I always walk out thrilled about my hair and plan to return many more times! 2 stars because the first time I went in about a year ago I had no problems, no wait and my Mai Tai was great and the volume lasted all day. I made an appointment for 8:45am yesterday and when I got there at 8:30am I met a guest who hadn't even checked in yet (her appointment was for 8:30am) because the receptionist was washing hair since they were a half hour behind already. I understand it's a Saturday but there were only 4 stylists scheduled and 5 people in front of me still waiting for their 8:30 appointments. Around 9am 2 more stylists came in and I was seated shortly after. My stylist was nice and I ordered the Mai Tai again which came out fine. The volume wasn't as much as the first time but I counted on the fact it would hold - unfortunately it didn't at all. And during the blow dry she burned my scalp so much so that I noticed it into the evening wedding I was going to. read more

They do an OK job on hair but have the WORST attitudes and customer service. I've been there so many times and every stylist and receptionist acts like Clients are bothering them by actually getting hair blow dried. They've never ever been on time, I mean over 15-30 min wait. Never have apologized or tried to make it better. I'll never go back. Do yourself a favor and drive a few miles longer to a different location in Cambridge or back bay. read more

I was very excited to go to Dry Bar, as a friend raved about their services and I wanted to treat myself for my birthday. Unfortunately I was disappointed in the service I received. I had called earlier in the day to add on the scalp massage to my appointment. The woman on the phone was very pleasant, and explained to me that it would be complimentary for my birthday and she would note it on my account. I was very happy about this and looked forward to it. After having my hair washed, I was unsure why I didn't receive the scalp massage/when I was supposed to get it. When my stylist mentioned something about the scalp massages, I let her know that I was supposed to get one today as part of my appointment. She replied with "Well do you want to go back to the washing area and do it?" I told her yes, if it wasn't too much trouble. She said "Well we are a little backed up, so I can give you a free one for next time you come in." I thought this was not only unfair, but not good customer service. Basically I would have to go back and spend more money on another blowout just to get a free scalp massage that I should have gotten that day. The woman doing my hair also let me know that she normally isn't a stylist because she is the Assistant Manager and normally wouldn't do blowouts (Two stylists called out that day). I didn't feel that she put in the effort that a regular stylist would have. My hair looked OK when I left. By the time I got home, which is only about 20 minutes away, my hair was flat and the waves/curls were practically gone. It was very disappointing and I had to re-do my hair with my own curling iron. I not only wasted time, but money too. I would not go back to Dry Bar, but maybe would try another location to give it another chance. read more

I made an appointment for 8:45 this past Saturday. I arrived on time & was told someone would be with me in a minute. However, it was 20-25 minutes later before I was seen. I get being busy & things taking longer, but not a single person updated me. What is the point of making an appointment if I have to wait 20-25 minutes? As for the appointment itself, I was very disappointed. My stylist was very "rough" with me. I was scratched by her long nails numerous times (which I put up with), but what really did it for me was when she was brushing my hair- it tends to get knotted fairly easily and she was not gentle at all. She was ripping the brush through my hair AND IT HURT. The blow out itself looked fine, but it lasted for less than 12 hours- I had an event that evening at 6:30 and had to redo it myself before I left for the event. I didn't do anything that would have caused my hair to lose the curls so fast, so it was disappointing. Overall, I think it was a waste of my money and I was not pleased. read more

I got my very first blow out on Saturday! I had read some mixed reviews, so was nervous on time. I got there a few minutes early for a 9:15am appointment, receptionist was nice enough, got me a coffee and within 5 minutes I was with my stylist. I have fairly easy hair, holds a curl well, but wanted a style that would hold all day as I have an event at noon and again at 5pm. I walked out with a lot of volume, but as my stylist told me it would, it fell nicely as the day went on and have no complaints! It was nice to not have to stress about my hair all day! I have to say that I went once before on a quieter day and thought it was great. I went in the Saturday of Mothers Day weekend with my 3 daughters. I had appointments scheduled, but I did it late so they were spread over an hour and a half. Fine, my fault, we were in no hurry. But we arrived and the music was deafening. Even my teen music loving daughters left with a headache. We asked them to turn it down a bit (as EVERYONE, even the kids, were complaining), and I got an eye roll as a response. It was also a prom day so at 4:30pm, it was crazy busy (read- seriously overbooked). After speaking with a staff person and a glass if champagne, I was a little calmer. After my wash, I arrived at my chair to find another glass and a small gift. Great, I was happy. Then I got home. No more curls. My hair looked horrible for Mother's Day. So much so I didn't take the pics I wanted with my kids (two just home from school). So, $200.00 later, I was sadly disappointed. And, I was so looking forward to this with the girls!!! Had my hair lasted the two days it had before, or even one, I wouldn't have posted this. I will never go here for a special occasion again. I was going to book an updo for my daughters senior prom, but I'm rethinking it. I work hard and look forward to these little special times with my girls, but this was far from relaxing. Oh, and the appointments were all in my name, so someone came out screaming my name, I tried to get her attention (with her back to me) and said that's me but my daughter is going first, and she barked "well, I called you three times!" Yes, she did. With her back to me with music so loud I had to touch her to get her attention. I'm so sad.....I was so happy the first time, and planned to buy a bunch of product for the girls. Drybar Chesnut Hill is my home away from home.... from the moment you walk in you feel like a queen. Drybar Chesnut Hill has unbelievably talented and kind staff, great hairstyle options, amazing-smelling products, hot/cold drinks, and exceptional customer service. Drybar Chesnut Hill does not provide a service, but rather it provides an experience. I started off coming once a month and that quickly turned into once a week... which turned into twice a week/whenever I need to feel like a goddess. My hair over the course of the past year has as a result gone from damaged to drop dead gorgeous to DOPE!!! In short, become a Bar Fly - get the monthly membership and it will change your life. Not to mention that DENISE the manager is an allstar supervisor/the MVP stylist (ask her for a cosmo-tai extra volume, you will look like you're in vogue). This place sucks. I obviously only take time out of my life to warn people of negative experience I have just so they don't experience it themselves. For the location (chestnut hill, newton) the price ($45 plus my $15 tip) for a wash & blow dry, the service was horrible. But I guess you get what you pay for. Cheap service,cheap experience :/. The decor is beautiful but they should really hire new stylist OR train the ones they have. Costumer service here suck a$$! It's all about commission & quantity NOT quality. I arrived around 9:15 for a 9:30 appointment and was greeted by a nice receptionist and waited for my stylist. At 9:40 a stylist walked in and I was hoping she wasn't going to be doing my hair. I know when I'm running late on clients I'm rushing and not always calm. Sure enough it was my stylist and she introduced herself at 9:43. I was not happy I was taken late because this was my fist time and first impressions are everything. She apologized for being late- said there wasn't a lot of traffic but she's not sure why it took so long. She asked me what I wanted to do with my "straight" hair. I said I wanted lots of volume and curls and pointed to the style that said volume And curls. She said will your hair hold? As a stylist she should have maybe told me she wasn't "wonderful" and volume because I knew after the style was done it was going to fall asap. As far as the shampoo I was a little turned off because the water was either really hot then turned to very cold. She apologized for the inconvenience. She sent me back to her chair with my hair pinned up and dripping down my neck and face. She parted my hair and started to blow dry. She wasn't spraying enough hairspray so I told her numerous times don't b shy with it. After she finished drying she curled it. I had this done around 10am and it's now 1pm and I am having to re curl my hair. I have been very careful not keeping windows open on the way home to not mess it up. I am unhappy with the blow out with this particular stylist and it's unfortunate because I have an actual important event I told her about that it needed to hold. I hope this girl gets a little more training and good luck. Not sure how other stylist are. It's just too bad! read more
