I waited to 25 mins, when I could tell there was no way I would be seen anytime soon I had to leave how I had to be able to make my event! Why wouldn't they contact me and let me know- hey we are running 30 Mins late should we reschedule?!! I ended up getting a parking ticket, no hair done, late for my event!!! I'm incredibly frustrated. I LOVE Drybar, but I had a terrible experience at Dry Bar Walnut Creek. 1st I planned out the appointment for an event in advance. They then called me the morning of the event, inquiring if I could come in earlier because they wouldn't be able to get me in because there was a larger party and a worker called out. Then they were unable to successfully give me the look I have had 2 other dry bars do impeccably. Next they over charged me $15 for the braid they didn't do. I came back to get a refund for the mistake and was ignored in the lobby. When I was finally acknowledged, by what seemed to be the store owner, she asked me to write my contact information down so she could refund me later. In doing so I put the mini hairspray I bought on the counter to write my information down, I mistakenly left it on the counter in my desperation to remedy my hair situation. I left dry bar unhappy, having to fix my own hair before the event. I called back the next day to request the refund for the braid and the hair spray mini, and no answer. Called back a few days later, no answer. Now it's been a couple of weeks, still no return call or refund. Now I'm frustrated. read more

I had booked 5 people to get ready together before professional family photos for a major formal event over a month and a half before the event. At booking, I selected specific stylists with each person to be sure we didn't get someone who isn't good (there are some there who are really not good!) We were all there before our appointments. The first person was taken late, by the stylist I was supposed to see (I made the reservation and it was MY event). So they had to swap mid way and clearly didn't look at the reservations at all. The next person of 5 was taken about 20 minutes late was sat in the farthest chair away on my row for some reason even though the seat by me was open. The next few people in our party were slowly taken, never at the same time. My mom was sat on the clear other side so we weren't near each other and I couldn't see her or be a part of this day which was the whole point. My aunt taken 45 minutes late! That is the entire length of the the appointment while 2 of us were almost done! Only 2 of the 5 were near each other, none taken on time. We couldn't see or talk to each other and it was just a MAJOR FAIL. Further, I couldn't even direct gratuity to the stylists had done a better job and/or not 45 mins late! Since I covered them all I had to give a tip that would be split. That was beyond frustrating too. Not a good way to go into an event on a big day. The management on the other hand is horrible, 3 times in the last month and a half I've made my appointment weeks in advance and when I get there they tell me I have to wait 40 minutes plus or ask me to reschedule it which is ridiculous. They are always running 5+ people behind, so what is the point of making an appointment. read more

I've been a Barfly member for a while now and really quite frustrated with this location. They're always late, so disorganized. I cleared my schedule, came in for my 2:15 appointment on time, a few other guests walked in for their 2 PM appointment very late. They took them despite being so late and told me I'd have to wait until 3:15 for my appointment. Maybe at least offer me something like an upgrade or a complimentary session? Instead when I said I'd rather just cancel my session instead of waiting that long they said "We'll cancel it without a fee then." This was particularly bad - but every other time I've come here they don't follow appointment times and I end up waiting 15-20 mins despite having an appointment. I'll probably be canceling my membership given how bad the organization and service is at this location. read more

Mom and I booked appointments for wedding blow out and up-do for my brothers wedding the same day. We arrived on time, but the shop was running 20 minutes late, which made us late for our make up appointments. At the end of our service they told us they ran out of hairspray. To make the whole thing worse, within an hour of leaving the dry bar our hair fell completely flat and looked awful. (Bad enough that when we returned people asked if we missed our wedding party hair service) The shop charged us $166 for two styles, and we ultimately had to pay a different salon to fix our hair before the event at the last minute. We had 7 appt to get our hair done for a wedding. They were down 1 employee, did not let us know. They kept taking later appt before they were done with our party. (4 people) we were going to be late to wedding so 2 people could not get their hair done. Not apologetic. Lied and said they would not take others before us. The one star is for the receptionist, at least that's what I think she is, I believe she also does hair as well . This is the second time that I've gotten attitude or just negative interaction with this person. The first time was when I booked an appointment for my sister and I and they were both for a blowout and when we got there, she was telling me that one was only a blowout and the other one was a dry styling. I said nope they were both blowouts and she Got attitude about it and I decided to just settle for what she said a dry style and a blowout to make their lives easier. I didn't want to argue,at checkout she realized that I was being charged for two blowouts, therefore admitting that there was a glitch in their system and didnt know how that happened. She did apologize and gave me a discount card for a future visit, but regardless the attitude that I got for a misunderstanding on their end was very frustrating. I love the Drybar so I decided to still continue coming here . I hadn't had any issues for a long time until today. I booked an appointment online for 145 and when I got to the area, it was a little bit earlier than that. It was 120. I called the salon to see if it was OK if I popped in a little bit earlier. If not, that's OK. I'll wait the lady on the phone said nope you're perfectly fine. You can come in. I have a gap in my schedule. That'll work out really well, so I did come in and when I went to check in the same lady, that's usually up at the reception area was doing hair and asked me if I had an appt, I said yes I do at 1:45 but the person on the phone told me I can come in now because they had a gap in their schedule and she says "well I don't know who you spoke to, but we're behind and we have two clients that have been here that still need to be checked in & it's probably not going to be until closer to your appt time" I would've been totally cool with that, I work as a dog groomer so I understand being shortstaffed or being behind, but what I don't understand is the attitude and rudeness. Maybe that's just how she speaks, but it's very condescending and rude. read more

I was coming here for years with a membership but it's not worth it. Please understand that if you have anything but straight hair, they will give you poor service. They write reviews about you on your account and pretty much speak extremely rude about you and your hair. My membership was cancelled for literally no reason (they were double charging me and when corporate got involved, they canceled my entire membership... not just the duplicate account). Spend your money somewhere else. They will not do your hair with integrity and will speak bad about you. Also, I tipped everytime no matter how badly my hair came out and they still left nasty notes on my profile. read more

Bottom line: Nia & Fuki are SUPERSTAR Stylists. But read on for more salon observations... I'll start this review by saying I have been a Drybar member for going on 10+ years. I've moved a lot throughout the Bay Area and frequented the Burlingame and Palo Alto Drybar for many of those years but now Walnut Creek is my local salon. I've always been able to find my go-to stylists at each location and for me, Nia & Fuki are my go-to's at Drybar Walnut Creek. From the moment you walk in, they are happy to see you, give you the best shampoo and scalp massages, and the styling- it's other level. They are professional and they can transform hair like no other! Every time I walk out of the salon, I don't make it more than half a block without getting compliments on my hair. On the other side of the coin, I see the low star reviews for Walnut Creek and really breaks my heart for ALL of the hard working stylists who call this location "home". There's so much talent here but operationally, they are not being setup to succeed due to lack of stylist availability and management/owners are not present. Point blank, the Drybar experience as a whole has "changed" after Alli Webb, the original founder, sold it and it was franchised out. I can tell it's not the stylists at fault here, it's the lack of structure the new owners have yet to provide which is resulting in the day-to-day challenges. They really need to be held accountable and fix the operational challenges for Walnut Creek. I have had my appointments moved or canceled because this location is short staffed or people call out sick. It's easy to be disappointed and upset with the person or stylist manning the desk but I can tell you- everyone at Walnut Creek is trying their best to keep this place afloat. It's truly not their fault. They are the face of the establishment sure BUT they also need to be setup for success with enough stylists and better leadership from the salon owners.
