Yesterday, my car was towed by this towing company. When I called them, the person who answered was extremely rude. His tone was full of impatience, provocation, and even contempt. Some of the things he said to me included: "Didn't you just hear what I said?" "Why are you asking me? Didn't you just ask me this?" "Didn't you listen carefully? Repeat it back to me." I completely understand that the staff may be emotionally affected by constantly receiving angry calls, but maintaining a basic level of professionalism should still be expected. For context, my apartment complex has exactly 6 onsite visitor spots for literally hundreds of units, and it is difficult to even obtain a pass with all the competition for them, especially since parking on the street means climbing up the huge hill of a driveway. I got one for my boyfriend so that he wouldn't have to scrounge for parking (I live in an area with a lot of apartments) then hike up the driveway when he got in late at night. Of course, there were two cars with resident permits in the visitor parking and no other open visitor spots when he came in. I called this DTS location after being told by its Garden Grove counterpart that it serviced my apartment complex. I explained to the guy who answered the phone that there were cars with resident permits parked in the visitor spaces. The guy says that unless it's a numbered spot or a fire lane, they can't tow unless management or security patrol calls them. Fine, fair enough. But then I ask if he could confirm the security patrol service contracted with my complex so I could call them myself (because my apartment complex is janky AF and they don't have the contracted security patrol's name or number posted). "I have no idea who it is," he says. Okay.... so I ask if there's any way he could look up who it is, knowing full well he can because his Garden Grove counterpart already tried to look for me. "Well, I think it's Messina but I can't be sure." I reiterate my question about whether he can actually check in the system. "I have no idea, we haven't been called out there in so long." Now I know this is a lie, as my complex literally switched security patrols a few months ago BECAUSE the old patrol wasn't calling for towing, and my neighbors have been complaining since because the new patrol actually has people towed. And furthermore, he STILL WASN'T LOOKING IT UP IN THEIR SYSTEM. He didn't tell me he wasn't allowed to give me their name, I mean he had already thrown out a name of a company that he thought it might be. It seemed like he just couldn't be bothered to look. I am literally asking for just the name of the contracted security patrol that you obviously have but for some reason can't be bothered to look up. Yes, I'll take responsibility -- I parked where I wasn't supposed to, and I completely understood that part. Honestly, when I first realized the car was gone, I was actually relieved to find out it had been towed and not stolen. I thought, "Okay, this is the better situation of the two." But that relief quickly turned into frustration. When I called and found out where my car was, I took an Uber there thinking I could pay and pick it up -- only to be told they couldn't release the car because I was using my husband's credit card. He's at work paying the bills, and they still refused to accept it without his signature, even though we're married and share finances. No one bothered to tell me over the phone that the card had to be in my name before I spent money on an Uber and showed up. That's what really upset me -- the lack of communication and basic customer service. DTS will rob you blind! Their charges for towing alone are almost $300 and then they make you pay "gate fees" of $140 if you can't pick up the car before 5pm plus the daily storage fee! And they are never even there to let you in! They deliberately make it impossible to get your car out in a timely manner so they can just rack up the fees. Their posted placards say their business hours are 8am - 5pm but that is a lie because they are never there! They will require you to make an appointment at a time that's convenient for them while your car sits there accruing fees. How is this even legal??? read more

Even so, the service was really bad both times. The cost for the first tow was $510 even though they had my car for less than 12 hours. The first time, they parked my car so close to a truck that I had to climb in the passenger side to get into the driver's seat. The car was also so close to the fence that I couldn't inspect it for damage before signing the waiver to get it out. The second time, they parked my car in a huge puddle. I had to get there before 5pm, so I was in work clothes. I had no choice but to submerge my feet in water and ruin my shoes to get inside my car. I left work early to get there before 5pm to avoid their gate fee. Even so, they were 45 min late to the appointment they required me to make. Richard. Your company towed my car for patrol one. While it's never fun to have one's car towed I had poor experience with your staff this AM. I called at 7am and was told my car was at Lake Forest. I was told there would be someone there at 8am so I could get my car. I spend $30 on an Uber and was there right at 8....8:05.....8:15 nothing so I called again. I was told that NOW I could get my car by appointment only and the soonest they could help me was 1 hour. When I expressed frustration I was hung up on. I contacted these people only to be treated with rudeness. Which was unbelieveable, because they stole my car. Called for someone parking in a reserved spot I pay for at the complex I live at. Was quoted 45-55 minutes, but they ended up getting to me in 22 minutes! This is the 2nd time I've called them for the same issue, they are always nice and very prompt. The guy who came out said it would take him 25 minutes to get the car out, it took him 10! DTS charged us $360 for 10 miles and 3 hrs storage just cause our car was touching the redcurb in a public street, not a private property, overcharging its not cool and taking a car ilegally from a public street that DTS may not have jurisdition. $265 for tow 10 miles plus $85 (per day) our car was there only for 3hrs making a total $360 for student who works in Mc Donalds making minimum wage. Reviewing the Irvine location - my car got towed from the neighborhood because our HOA is difficult with street parking. The woman on the phone who told me which location my car was towed to was so rude, didn't warn me of pricing or anything. (I would have saved 105 dollars if I went to get my car later in the morning). I went to get my car within 3 hrs of it being towed because I work on call shifts and I needed me car to get to work. 390 dollars and my car had a huge scratch on it. Didn't know about waiting until 8am to save 105 dollars. If I did, I wouldn't have even bothered getting my car from them at 1 am and I would have just gone to work first. But then to have such an unpleasant person to have to deal with made it down right humiliating. The Lake Forest location looks like a haunted house, cobwebs and all. It's dark and damp...I'm allergic to mold and immediately my lungs filled up with it. The mistress of the haunted castle should have a name badge "Misery". We were not unfriendly but she sure was able to change our moods from bummed to down right pissed off. She is slow to move and didn't show any ability of proper customer service. Funny reviews, I got my car impounded and had to go collect it at the yard behind A's (Dana Point) After reading the reviews, I expected the worst but what I got was far from it. Remember, these people are here to do a job, not to make you feel warm & fuzzy. If you don't want to deal with them, don't get your car impounded. They don't tow cars for no reason. When I called, the lady did have a little attitude but that was expected given the caliber of people she has to deal with. That I can handle.. Where I live, they don't just tow your car away. Somebody has to sign for it, the security patrol. It's not the tow company's fault for impounding my car. It's ultimately mine for parking where I did. It's kind of a bummer when you walk outside in first thing in the morning and your car has disappeared and your first thought is "thanks Obama/" I was pissed but it finally wore off. $285 kinda stings but oh well. The deal is, be there by 5 PM or there's an additional charge. I arrived at 4:45 and was helped by Chris and all went well. No attitude at all, in fact he was very polite. My car wasn't damaged and nothing was missing. I paid up and was on my way. The lady who "helped me" gave me attitude from the jump, she had horrible attitude and short temper.
