Had lunch on 8/13 @ 1pm. Server was Ryan. We ordered a burger and asked if the kitchen could make a couple of patty melts even though it wasn't on the menu, which was baffling in the first place. We explained what it was and he left to ask the kitchen if they could make it. Any self respecting cook can make a patty melt. When he brought the two patty melts to the table, my friend calmly explained that it was prepared wrong and what needed to be done to correct it. It was any easy fix by the way. The three of us have been in the restaurant business for a combined 105 years and could not believe what came out of this servers mouth. He said as he picked up the two plates, "You know I'm doing you guys a fuckin favor!". We decided to stay in spite of our instinct to just walk out. We've all had bad days on the floor but this...this was a first. He never apologized. I imagine he said something to his manager because he comped 3 beers and one of the patty melts and a server rarely, if ever, has that power. Highly recommend the Bison Burger! The fried egg running down the side makes for one heck of a burger. The atmosphere is nice and the patio seating is perfect for those Chicago summer days. Went with my friend earlier around 2:30am as it was our first night in town and was the only place close by that was still open with food plus we're familiar with the place. But a guy I had met while at the bar had told me as soon as we left, the bartender who worked there at the time told him to "be careful around us because we had robbed someone last night and that he can tell by our 'character' we are dangerous". It's our first night in town. We definitely didn't rob anyone last night or any night ever. And most definitely aren't bad or dangerous ladies. In my younger years this spot often got passed as I chose more lounges and clubs to party at. I feel like I missed out on a chill spot with some pretty great bar food. I finally got the opportunity to dine here and outside on a cooler day where there was such a light sprinkling. Luckily there is overhead coverage and it was nice to have our dog out with us. Our waiter Anthony seemed like he was in training as another waiter accompanied him, and so both were nice and helpful letting us know food would be coming up and keeping up with the refills. The guy that seated us outside was great getting a water bowl for our dog, too. The weather called for soup and so I got the Saturday special New England clam chowder soup and the well raved about seafood salad. Both were delicious! I loved that the seafood was grilled and very flavorful and the vinaigrette dressing paired very nicely. I am a fan and made a fan out of my MIL who asked for a paper menu so she could call and order in the future. I am sure I will be back to try other items. read more

So last night, for the first time since I've been going here since mid 2000 it was embarrassing and very disrespectful/disturbing We were asked to put a Credit Card up before they would take our order. I asked the manager did he ask everyone to do what he asked us to do and he replied YES. Of course I asked a couple & they said No interracial couple, so I asked another table that was a rainbow of people they said No different races ... So my guest that was visiting from Michigan said they WOULD NOT patronize a business that clearly based our group on what seem very Racist So we left and took our business to another restaurant that was more than happy to accommodate us! I wanted to love Dublins because they have such a great location, but overall, I was disappointed in the overall atmosphere and, more importantly, the food. You enter off State and immediately greeted by a rectangular bar with seating on three sides. However, each corner of the bar has two massive support pillars that mess up the seating and divide the bar's three sides. Various dining tables surround the bar. Not much of a back bar due to the bar's shape. As for the food, I ordered a medium-rare burger and was served something so overcooked that I only had one bite. I could have explained the situation to the bartender, but she wasn't around much (this was pre-COVID, and the bar was packed....finally getting time to finish some reviews). Dublin's is half a block and 19 floors down from my living room. I can walk to pickup the second best burger in Chicago. They use waffle-cut fries, which offer the maximum edge to hold crispness. (White Castle has good fries too.) Dublins's is a Gold Coast bar & grill with outdoor seating in the summer. It's where regular people go to hang out. The sunset view down Maple Street is nice. The bar, high tops, and booths inside are usually occupied by area regulars, or excellent actors portraying regulars. Always has a good mix of visitors. They have a large menu and would be more profitable if they focused on the non-exotic stuff. Burgers and fries are really great. Soups are ok. The bread basket on the table is a real treat. I'll find out who makes it: Gonnella I think, but might be Turano. I'll always have room for real butter on real bread. Outdoor seating is good for people-watching and drinking. But the chairs are not comfortable long-term. Service is always great--they have high standards. Bathroom was ok. The occasional beggar outside, or the occasional loud, drunk woman inside are bearable. Weekends are crowded on the Gold Coast and parking sucks until you learn the neighborhood. Nice place! I definitely love the chill atmosphere. This is a place you can come to, to watch sports (eat and have drinks) or just to simply hangout with friends.
