Not sure where they get the Thai chili, but it's really spicy. It would be perfect with a big slice of pickled garlic. The Gio Thu is really good too. It's not oily and doesn't break into pieces when you cut it like Thanh Huong. It's cash only. The elderly man doesn't speak English at all. I'll come here even though there's a language barrier. Might be the worse I've ever been treated at a business. I called in early to place in my order and did not communicate when I was coming so I understand when they were mad at me for coming in too late. They said they sold my sandwiches. Fine, like I said, understand their anger on my part for coming late with no communication but then they proceed to make rude comments about how late I was the whole time I'm standing there. Then I realize I forgot cash and told them I need to go get cash, I'll be right back. When I came back, I stood in line, owner sees me standing in line, says nothing. Food is good and garlic Banh mi is great, but service sucks. They normally don't a lot of veggies and I asked extra on the side. The said I already received and I should consider paying an extra 10 dollars per pound. First of all, I don't need a pound. Why not just give a little bit more? Simply PERFECTION! Only had yummy eats on my trip to Santa Clara. This is perfect for anyone looking for a quick, cheap meal. I got the chicken banh mi to go and LOVED it. The chicken is super flavorful and they add all the works. Warning that the jalapeño definitely has a kick to it. The bread is also so perfectly crispy and fluffy (you can even buy it separately which I might do in the future!). They also had a lot of other sweets and drinks inside. The staff is friendly and though there is a line it moves very fast. Orders also come out fairly quickly once you're finished checking out. My brother picked up a bunch of their sandwiches and I got to try both the combo and the grilled pork sandwiches. Combo- This sandwich was pretty standard. It had all the usual fixings of the regular combo banh mi; pate, pork roll, pickled carrots, and others. It was decent. The bread roll that they used seemed very similar to the regular bread used in banh mi sandwiches but smaller. Solid sandwich if you want something quick and tasty. Grilled pork- I actually like this sandwich a little better. My go-to is usually the combo but the grilled pork here in my opinion was the better pick up option. Pork marinade was savory, yet sweet, but not overwhelming. The cilantro and pickled carrots and radish added a nice texture and really complimented the grilled pork. Solid spot. read more

My favorite Vietnamese sandwiches. This location is not like the other on story road. This one is limited with sandwich options and does not serve the garlic bread but the food is still great! Parking here and be a mess so be patient. The parking spots are a little tight too. Service is quick and friendly here. The staff are all super nice! I don't really have a favorite Bahn Mi or Vietnamese sandwich spot. Whenever I'm in San Jose or Sacramento, I go to Duc Huong. Duc Huong has multiple locations in the San Jose area and I've heard it tastes different and cost at different locations. I love to order either the Combo or Grilled chicken sandwich.Crunchy bread, nice spread, and consistently good taste! It's closer to the 7 dollar range per sandwich which may be on the more expensive side. They also sell snack size 4 dollar mini sandwich as well. Masks worn by staff, and hand sanitizers available. I confused this place with another sandwich shop that's located near the Walmart on Story Rd. But I decided to give it a try. The place is small, can only fit maybe 5-7 people inside. It's in the corner of a plaza. There's no menu. One paper taped near the counter but going inside, I didn't know what options they had. The paper I saw taped on the glass shield said bbq pork and bbq chicken sandwich so those are the two I ordered. I thought we could get half versions but we got a whole sandwich. I think it's cash only too. I saw everyone else paying in cash. There was another sign by the register but it wasn't written in English so not sure if they had any restrictions about payment. Anyways the sandwich was like $7 each plus I got two can beverages amounting to $18.25. Kinda pricey for what it is. The banh mi wasn't anything special unfortunately. The bread was super dry and rough in my opinion. The pork had good flavor but the ratio to stuffing to bread was off. My boyfriend ate the chicken and he said it didn't taste fresh to him. I also didn't even want his half and we normally half our sandwiches so we could each try. But his sandwich didn't look as appetizing. I did a comparison with Huong Lan today, getting the Banh Mi Thit Nuong (grilled pork) from Duc Huong and the banh mi with egg and Banh Mi Dac Biet from Huong Lan. I've previously eaten the Banh Mi Thit Nuong at Huong Lan before for what it's worth. I read on some reviews that this location is not as good sandwich wise so I guess I'll write this review with that caveat in mind. The sandwich comes warm so you have to eat it quick or it will get hard. The grilled pork is delicious - thick cut and full of lemongrass flavor. I think it's the best I've had in the area. They do load up heavy on the sauce which is fine for grilled pork, probably wouldn't be good for the dac biet (pate and headcheese). I need to try their dac biet next time. I like the pickles here better too as it's more balanced between sweet and sour. Overall, so far I prefer Huong Lan because I'm a slow eater and don't like the sandwich to get hard. They also are much lighter on the sauce which I think is objectively better because otherwise the sandwich becomes imbalanced. Finally, at $7 for the Banh Mi Thit Nuong here, Huong Lan wins as it's cheaper in price. But, like I said I need to try their other locations and especially try their Dac Biet to get a fair comparison. read more

I usually frequent the Story Road location, & this is my usual order. Since I didn't feel like waiting in a long line; I decided to try out this shop instead. Bad decision. The line wasn't too bad when I arrived. Once I got to the counter, I tried ordering an egg sandwich. At this moment, I'm not sure as to why the cashier was able to confirm an order in English with a lady who had a pick up order, but was not able to understand me when I asked for eggs? For sandwhiches, I always get the grilled pork as it is the best out there! They offer the regular size for $7.50 and the small size for $3.50. Not bad at all... Lee's Sandwhiches is not on my list because it's just not good! Horrible service. All other duc huongs have buy 4 get 1 free, they also accept card. This location doesn't have the same bogo deal and only accepts cash. You can call an order in and they wont start making it til you get to the store. The sandwhiches are not as loaded aa other locations. NEVER COMING BACK TO THIS LOCATION.
