Tried this fast food yet quality restaurant when the Darien diner was closing early and enjoyed the meal. We had grilled cheese with a cup of chicken orzo soup. The menu is plentiful and it has a clean, comfortable, quiet vibe. It's also cheaper than the diner. Yes, it's fast food but feels healthier than your standard McDonalds or Taco Bell. I've been coming to Duchess for a good chunk of my life. I've found the Duchess experience to be consistent from location to location. For breakfast you're going to want to go w/ the bacon, egg and cheese on a roll. I know that everyone in the world makes this sandwich, but Duchess does it well. I don't get too fancy or stray from my usual orders. Hot dog w/ the works, NO relish or the Big D Chili Cheeseburger. Both are exceptional. Duchess places bacon bits on the bottom on the hot dog bun. Then a nicely grilled frank w/ kraut and spicy mustard. CT has a handful of worth-the-trip hot dog spots (Super Duper Weenie, Rawleys, the late Swanky Franks) and I put a Duchess dog right up there. If you're not local, you might not "get" the whole experience, but I've loved this place for ages. read more

Ordered 2 combos on uber eats. Originally said 20 minutes. Showed up 55 mins later, completely cold and stale- we tracked the whole time on Uber. And fresh indeed - taking on the same strategy as Wendy's and In and Out (disclaimer: In and Out is still in a league of its own, it is the KING of fast food burgers). The burgers are grilled on the spot. A bit thin, but still pretty darn tasty and better than a plethora of fast food chains along the northeast. The bacon burger is fantastic, because they also fry up the bacon on the spot (instead of microwave it like other places). Fries are crispy and perfect like McD's. Chicken sandwich actually tastes like real grilled chicken, not rubber chicken like other fast food chains. Nice plump-cut tomatoes and crispy shredded lettuce on top. As far as the typical fast food chains go (not including In & Out), I rank Wendy's as #1, because of it's fresh-factor. I recommends Duchess, but with some warnings. Do not go through the drive through. A) it takes a very long time B) they invariably get your order wrong. You then have to go in anyway to get what you wanted in the first place, or you go off disappointed. Some of the food is very good; grilled cheese, hot dogs, chicken parm and the salads, particularly a HUGE and inexpensive Cobb are all excellent. I would stay away from the sandwiches and wraps. The steak wrap is inedible. I wish the service was as good as the food. Some part of the order is wrong in 4 out of 5 visits, and they never apologize for errors. Maybe other locations are different. Duchess is not the best food you will ever have in your life, but it's not the worst either. If you want to eat a semi quick lunch near NCC this is a good option for you. I would say average wait time for food is around 10 minutes, which is kind of slow for a quick service business. Even though it is a little on the slow side it is still pretty fast in regards to say a sit down/ table service option. It is usually pretty quiet in here so that is nice as well. Things i would NOT recommend you to get include: chicken nuggets, soup and sandwich combo, any salad. The salads are watery, the chicken nuggets are just breaded chicken clumps that are usually burned, and the the soup and sandwich combo i could make way better at my own house and you could too! Things you should try are their bacon egg and cheese, chicken wrap, bbq burger, or their hot dogs. (It's a lot harder to mess those things up ) read more
