Was able to split half a duck with three of my friends and successfully sample a little bit of each of their dumplings! The duck was moist and not overly dry. The skin a little bit crispy and the pancakes were not too doughy and appropriately cooked and easy to separate to divvy it out amongst everyone. I do recommend using the dipping sauce as the duck itself isn't too salty or flavorful so the sauces definitely help add flavor! We got pork and scallion soup dumplings. There was adequate soup inside which was nice, but it was a bit overpriced per dumpling. So might skip that one in the future. The shrimp paste spicy and sour dumpling was yummy, and a bit more bang for your bucks. It's not too spicy or sour, so don't hesitate to try it. It was actually probably one of my favorites. I always say this, and I think it's true. I'll give you 5-stars, but you really have to blow me away. That fifth star doesn't come easy. Which, again (possibly) stereotypically led me to immediately believe this joint must know what it's doing. And boy, YES IT DOES. My wife loves a good soup dumpling. She said they were some of the best she's had. I, too, thought they were excellent. Very large. Flavorful. Almost unmanageable for one bite, but we made do! Haha! We also had their pot stickers . The other day, we visited @duckanddumpling for dinner again. The Half Duck with the Duck Broth Soup is the best in town! Their pancake was so delicate and thin, and had paper separating each piece. How thoughtful! We tried the Shrimp & Pork Xiao Long Bao this time and it was delicious. The baos are full of soup as you would expect. The Stir-fried Green Beans was fresh and crispy. This place use to be a Taco Cabana, a little sketchy when you walk in due to the set up. Not sure if they're still in the settling stage. But anyway... service was great and fast, very attentive and helpful. She advised on what not to purchase extra because the order came with plenty, I really appreciated her honesty. Pretty much everything is shareable, the portion amount for the teriyaki chicken was insane. We had 5 people in our party and still had a whole box to take home. The wonton soup was delish along with the green beans. The crab Rangoon was mid- the filling needed more flavor and the wrapper was just so thick. The duck was so dang good! They give enough crepes, 20 for a full order and that was plenty. The accompanying veggies were fresh along with the sauces, they also brought out chili oil. The duck soup was insanely delicious, the veggies the broth and the duck is a perfect comfort soup. It did take a while for that to come out but it was fine. I'm not a fan of drinks being sold by the can or bottle because of course you don't get refills, plus fountain sodas always taste better. So beware the 20oz soda bottles are $3.50. We came to try this newly opened dumpling restaurant for lunch on a Saturday and it had a steady crowd. We added our names to a notebook as you enter the place. We did not have to wait long. In fact, we decided to place our order while we waited so as soon as we got to our table, we were served our first main entree. Service was quick and friendly and the food was incredibly delicious. This poor restaurant. 1. It's in an existing Taco Cabana; super small one at that. 2. They are so good they are SLAMMED at dinner time. 3. I've never seen staff work so hard! We went on a random Thursday evening near almost 8:00 PM and the wait was literally out the door. 17 parties ahead of us. (You can walk in and put your name on a tablet and the system assigns a number and wait time). We did that initially but realized if we waited; they'd be out of food; it was that jamming. So we decided to order our food to go. Sadly you cannot order the Peking duck to go and several of our backup selections were sold out as well. So we opted for two entrees and one app; triple delight fried rice and a spicy noodle dish. The crab pastry (rangoon) was fantastic! As soon as we ordered and sat, mo more than a few minutes later a server announced aloud they were sold out of the duck for the night. The server that took our food order said that the best time to come with no wait and plenty of food is around 3:00. Our wait was minimal and we took our food and left. We want to return to try that duck for sure! The restaurant is very small with a small prep/bus area and a small kitchen) at least the portion we could see). We came to this restaurant for a birthday dinner for a large group of 15 people. The service was decent overall. There were some nontraditional experiences we had. Our food came out fast and was made fresh. You fill your own water cups since the tables have water pitchers on the table. When we were done with our food the waitress asked us to pass our plates to the end of the table which really felt like we were doing lots of the service work you pay for when you eat at a sit down restaurant. Each family with the party ordered their own food and drinks. The whole duck was served on two trays which worked out since we shared. My husband and the beef soup and our boys had one with peanuts that they didn't care of. The crab wontons were large in size and delicious. At the end the waitress went from family to family to pay. We were last. We paid for some extra items that maybe were not named when the other groups paid. No big deal we just paid. It's a given that tip is included with a large party. Since it was already a generous tip my husband opted to not leave more than what the restaurant assigned. The waitress even told us that we can choose to leave an extra tip or choose no tip if we don't want to leave more than the minimum. On our drive away my husband notices that our bill is more than expected and sees an extra tip"tip" was added on. We turned around and he went in and was given a refund. The restaurant said that the system atomically gives a tip. I will disappointed that we were scammed of more money and we were misled by the waitress. The whole experience was a first and I'm very disappointed because if they added an extra tip for us I'm sure they added it for the other members of our party. This made me lose trust in the establishment. If you eat here please be mindful of your bill and check for add-ons. I'm also not sure if the extra food items we paid for were just added on to our bill. This left me feeling very uneasy. This is one of those times where you wish Yelp would allow for half-stars. The food was good, not great, but a solid 4. Service, on the other hand, was below average at about 2.5 (I consider 3 as average). Combining those two factors, and the fact that the duck soup poses a choking hazard without warning, I'm giving it a 3. Our friends wanted to treat my DH here for his birthday. We were celebrating. We ordered a lot of food. As we finished each, no one cleared the empty dish. When the next item would arrive, we would get a "make space please." How are we supposed to do that? Carry our now-empty plates and soda bottles to the kitchen? How about the server notify someone that there are plates to be collected? We ordered vegetable spring rolls and five plates of dumplings to start. The texture of the spring roll filling was like mush and you couldn't tell if they had vegetables or not. They came with a standard dipping sauce. The dumplings came with no sauce and no one made any suggestions on what the table condiments were or which should be used with what. We figured it out after some trial and error. Favorite dumpling was the beef in the spicy and sour broth. So good! The curry dumpling was delicious and needed no sauce. Pork and scallion, beef and onion, every dumpling we ordered was delicious. We ordered a 1/2 duck and combination fried rice. The duck soup arrived ahead of the duck. We soon found ourselves spitting into our napkins- EVERY piece of what looked like duck meat was full of tiny bones!! Couldn't chew it or eat it, so what's the point of including it? No one even suggested to look out for the bones. The broth was good but none of us proceeded with the soup after getting mouthfuls of bones. Awful. The Peking duck itself was very tasty! (This time, they finally took away a few empty plates!)The fried rice was okay but a little bland for fried rice. We have leftovers so I can fix it up at home. We didn't have a dedicated server, different servers would occasionally ask if we needed anything before the duck arrived but only one server, the "no rush" lady started coming around after the duck. Every time she asked a question, she would say "no rush." All until DH was just starting to open the gift he had just been given- "no rush" lady came and interrupted him to give our table the bill and ask us to leave. We arrived at 4 - intentionally selected non-peak hour- and it was 5:20 at this point- which isn't excessive in my opinion considering all the food we had to get through and the amount of money we were spending. She couldn't have given us 10 more minutes? Isn't it obvious we're ending the night with the gift reveal? We paid and left, obviously, and took the drinks (she had just brought more of) with us. I would title this review "Hustle and Bustle" if I could. It was a Thursday night and the restaurant was definitely bustling. There was a sign in the front saying "wait to be seated" but also a check in tablet. The tablet was not working well, it was not responding to touch making sign-in impossible. We didn't wait too long though before someone seated us despite their dinner rush. The staff seemed a little terse at first but then I quickly realized, they were just all hustling to give everyone the best most efficient service possible. The first thing I noticed was the pristinely organized serving utensil setups at each seat. They brought a large carafe of water with lemon slices as well. We had half a Peking duck order and some dumplings, everything was savory and delicious. The Peking duck came out in minutes and again, fabulous presentation of all the ingredients to help you enjoy your dish to the fullest. The pancakes they use are paper thin but strong and a perfect vehicle to deliver the crispy skin and juicy meat of the duck. The dumplings came out a little later which allowed time to give the duck the spotlight it deserved. Each duck order comes with a large soup with tofu, veggies and parts of the leftover duck, showing they respectfully prepare the duck to its full potential. Duck was so fantastic. Skin was crispy and all the fat was trimmed off. Meat was perfect and tender and juicy. We got a few different types of dumplings and every single one of them were great. Soup dumpling, pot stickers, and spicy & sour dumplings were all equally good. We have had other experiences where one dumpling will reign supreme and the others are not so hot, but this place makes sure every item is top notch. The wait staff was thorough and all the food came out pretty quickly and hot. They explained up front when drinks didn't come with refills so there were no surprises. They tape a print out of your order receipt on the table and cross dishes out as they arrive to make sure you get everything exactly as you order it. The entire inside of the building was completely redone after the taco cabana was closed down and looks very clean and feels serene. Pork and shrimp soup dumplings - definite must try, a classic and very hard to master dish that has a lot of components that are easy to mess up. The skin is super thin, so thin you're able to see the soup inside! The pleats are perfectly folded and overall a great texture and not overtly gummy. The soup was clear and super flavorful, no forward taste of MSG but great umami flavor that goes great with soy sauce, vinegar, and some chili oil. Perfection and a great marker of a great Chinese restaurant. Shrimp paste hot and sour dumplings - the dumpling skin is a bit thicker but lends to absorb a lot of the hot n sour soup! Something I don't see a lot on menus but I really enjoyed it. Think of it like a noodle wrapped dumpling! A great balance of sour and savory, the shrimp paste is the perfect contrast to this soup so would definitely recommend you try it. Szechuan Tan Tan noodles : Great Szechuan flavor without it being overpowered by the numbness, the pork has a lot of herbaceous seasoning that pair well with the overall sauce. Super jam packed with flavor and found out that all of their noodles are made IN HOUSE! Great quality at a great value. our definite favorite from the night and if you order this -- the passion fruit cucumbers are a non negotiable , TRUST ME! Eggplant & minced pork noodle : oh my god this is what lo mein from the mall thinks she is. The eggplants are not bitter and braised to perfection which allow it to hold onto all that savory goodness. With the again in house noodles, try this and tell me that that's NOT better than take out lo mein. Passion Fruit Cucumbers: definitely an interesting take on the typical cucumber salad but we are very glad we tried it, definitely could use some work balancing the sweetness of the passionfruit but the vision is there and I'd still order this again. It's super light and refreshing and trust me with all of this flavor you want something bright to cut through all the depth this meal had to offer. We didn't get to try the duck, but just by watching them butcher it while we were waiting I can assure you they're not messing around! December 1. My daughter and I saw the place because we decided to have lunch together. The place seemed pretty cool, but the service was very awkward. They never asked us if we wanted drinks, they just put water on our table. We had to call the waiter over to place our order, but nobody ever checked on us. The food was pretty good and tasted very authentic. The pan fried soup dumplings were amazing. Nobody ever checked on us to see if the food was good or to our liking. Out of nowhere, a lady comes up and says are you done and handed us our bill. She was carrying a tablet and had zero personality. Although the place was not busy it seemed like we were in an inconvenience to her and she wanted us out. I felt like I was in a Starbucks drive-through during the checkout process. This place could do well in the future, but needs a service and personality upgrade big time! Nobody smiles or greets anybody. When you walk in, it's a few ladies that look angry while they're prepping and cooking. I will try it again because the food is good, but if the personality and service hasn't changed, it will probably be my last time. I live around the corner and there's too many choices around the area to put up with bad service.
