Not bad, but nothing I'd ever crave. We got enough takeout for like 15 people and there were only 7 of us so I tried a lot of stuff. I ordered the crab cake sandwich and they unfortunately forgot my tartar sauce so it was too dry. The fact that it was fried (which is not ok if you're from Maryland!) also contributed to that. Let me say the ribs here are very good but I was a little annoyed when after I order I asked about the BBQ sauce and they told me they were out. Very matter of fact no sorry we should have told you earlier. Just "we'll give some packets of premade sauce on the side". Duck Deli is one of our Must Stop places on the Outer Banks. We especially love Duck Deli's version of hush puppies! They come perfectly fried to a crisp golden brown. The inside is tender and slightly sweet. Ask for extra butter and honey! read more

The day we were there they seemed a little understaffed but they kept up for the amount of patrons they had. The location is convenient and close to other shops for the person that wants to shop before or after their meal. Parking can be a little tight but this is the case for anywhere in downtown Duck given the time of day. The menu was adequate as we had dinner but they were already out of the catch of the day and it was only 6:30 p.m. The kids menu was why you would expect for the little ones I felt the portions for the dinner entree were a little small for the price and the fried foods ( fish, hush puppies) were a bit over fried. Last year I was very pleased with my experience with Duck Deli. Not so much this year. Had to park 2 blocks away because parking lot is too small. Waited 10 minutes to place order and 25 minutes to get ribs, fries and slaw, food that is already prepared for the most part. Then as I am waiting, I see people asking about sauce and they were told its in the bag. So I assumed, when I finally did get my food, the sauce was in the bag. Well there was no sauce and my ribs were a little overcooked and really needed some sauce. I think a few more employees could have moved things along faster and I should have checked the bag for some sauce. read more

My family hits up this little deli every year on our way home from OBX. It's a tradition that we will not be breaking any time soon! They added a new picnic area this year and it made it super convenient for all 9 of us to grab a seat and wait out the traffic! We leave a little late so we get the advantage of having breakfast....which is always delicious and filling......then we order our lunch to go for the car ride home. The smoked chicken salad is my most favorite thing! Talk about ridiculously good. The only problem with it, is that they sell out of the smoked chicken pretty quick because everyone knows that it is delicious! The prices are also great here. Everything was excellent. Kids ordered cheeseburgers and my daughter devoured hers and wanted another. The menu is unimaginative--it could be any greasy spoon dinner anywhere. In fact, if the food hadn't arrived so quickly, I could imagine it coming from another restaurant--as EVERYTHING is served on Styrofoam. Seriously, it is 2011! The eggs were over cooked and without the hot sauce, would have been tasteless, the fruit plate came from a jar, and they trew down a bottle (un opened) of Tropicana for OJ. All this might be acceptable in a dive, but they are getting decent cash for what they offer. Rather than eat here, make it at home or buy a pop tart--that's my advice read more

The server was very nice. The food was subpar. The restaurant had tons of flys flying around and really made it hard to enjoy the food or even stay. The place didn't seem very clean. I had a water and it tasted funny. Like tap water. I don't think it's very sanitary for the staff to be sitting on the counters where foods prepared either. It was a hot day. My family and I decided to go here. When we first walked in it was so hot and the air conditioner was so loud. We got seated immediately. It felt nice. The food wasn't bad, but it wasnt great either. I would put it at slightly above average, but as at least one other poster pointed out, the prices are very high for a BBQ joint. The reason I gave Duck Deli 2 stars instead of 3 is for the service. When my friend and I arrived it was mid afternoon and there were only 2 other groups in the place, but both the waiter and the waitress that served us acted as if it was a bother to do so and were not very friendly at all. This also has to be the first place that I have been to in over 15 years that charges you for a refill when they give you fountain drinks and if that wasnt bad enough, on the first round of refills, the waitress took our drinks and refilled them without us asking for a refill and without her asking us if we wanted one. This was without us knowing refills where not free. Again, while this place is not terrible, it certainly isn't great and I certainly will not be going again. read more

Pulled pork came with three sauces to try, and the smoked chicken salad was awesome.
