Got into Duck Donuts in Kill Devil Hills around 730a and the place was already slammed. First time there: three part process, first is glaze, then toppings, then drizzle- all of which are optional We got a variety of a half dozen including maple glaze with bacon bits and peanut butter glaze with peanuts and chocolate drizzle and a few more traditional choices. Hot, fresh made donuts with an open space to watch the donuts as they're made and prepared. The menu choices can be a little overwhelming and one of those places where if you have a hard time deciding the line will grow longer and longer, out the door by the time we were leaving. What's nice is they have a sheet where you can fill out or pick your toppings on the side and bring them back like sushi or the lottery but they'll also take your order right at the register. Mainly a to go place as there is nowhere to sit and considering how chaotic it gets you probably wouldn't enjoy your time sitting there or else I would have given it 5 stars. The boxes also recommend heating the donuts in the microwave for 10 seconds to recreate the hot off the line taste once you get back to your place. Cashier was friendly, helpful and the prep staff took their time on every donut despite the rush. Good place to grab to go donuts if you're ok waiting a few minutes but I like a place where you can at least sit down and enjoy the donuts while they're still hot. Great place to try, a little over $8 for half dozen so a little pricey but worth it for hot fresh donuts with custom toppings. Locally owned franchised operation which I think is mainly on the OBX. My kids and I came in the other day and we had yet another amazing experience! My kids had chocolate icing with rainbow sprinkles and I had the key lime icing with graham cracker crumbles. The key lime is to die for! We also got to see our favorite person there Ashley. We have been coming for years and she is always there with a smiling face ready to help anyone with anything. We went around nine and waited a total time of 15 minutes for our donuts but its completely understandable seeing as they make them right in front of you. The only thing that makes it 4/5 stars is the abrupt and uncomfortable service. Have gone to the Outer Banks a lot in the summers and these donuts are worth every penny. These donuts are delicious and I'm not huge on donuts. Actually I don't like donuts, but these donuts I love. I'm more of a croissant lover, but this is the only donut I would eat. Pour powder sugar or cinnamon sugar and I'm a happy person.
