I had never been here before, but was really impressed at thewarm and fresh donuts that they were able to put out so quickly. They probably have at least 50 flavors spread across a bunch of different series, such as "OBX originals", "Popsicle assortment", "cheesecake assortment", "campfire assortment", "mother's day assortment", etc. The magic is that they make them on demand and can make anything you want. The only caution I add is that the flavors are no where as potent as what you would get at most other gourmet donut shops, which is why they're not five star. I ended up getting a dozen, which was their signature assortment, but I replaced the "the flip-flop, the beach, and coconut island bliss" with three donuts from the cheesecake series: New York cheesecake, key lime cheesecake, and peanut butter cheesecake. Pull into Sunshine Plaza on Rockville Pike for some great donut cakes. Not quite donuts, these warm sweet donut variants are eaten with a fork. Came here to grab a dozen while in the area. They did not disappoint. This location in Rockville was a short distance from the 495 beltway (about 10 min). Parking was hassle free as the store was located in a strip mall with adequate parking. Upon entering, they were following Covid-19 precautions as they had no tables or seating available. They had markings on the floor indicate the required 6 foot distance and hand sanitizer on the counter as well. I was greeted by a pleasant young man and proceeded to place my order. First and foremost, Duck Donuts has ONE donut flavor, a vanilla cake, and from there you pick your icing and toppings to create your flavored donut. I liked that. Second, they make their donuts as you order. You can watch them mix and place the dough on the conveyer belt to drop in the fryer and come out nice and hot on the other end, waiting for the staff to customize them accordingly. They have an impressive array of flavors from a plain donut to one with white icing, raspberry glaze, and bacon! It was so hard to decide, but we decided on an assortment of donuts consisting of plain, white iced with coconut topping, white iced raspberry glaze with bacon, strawberry icing, cinnamon dusted with white icing, cookies and cream with white icing, just to name a few. It was cool to watch them create our dozen. When finished, they presented us with our dozen and the box was warm to the touch! Each donut was warm and had fresh toppings that took them to the next level! My first time at the Duck. I was staring at the "How to order" board for quite a while. I than began to order, based on the board. Then the guy points to all the donuts they can do. I kind of felt dumb, not seeing that. All my fault. But, anyway, I got the maple bacon and a peanut butter with chocolate drizzle. These were definitely fresh. I love donuts! One of my favorite chains is called Wake N' Bake and Ducks Donuts reminds me of them in all the good ways. As I walked into the store early Saturday morning I saw their employees hard at work making different delicious donuts. Outside was a cold miserable day, but inside joy reigned supreme. The line here can get long. Your donuts are made to order so ordering before hand is a good idea. We came in to get a small surprise for my mother and it was a short wait. The cashier was a bit matter of fact, but we didn't let his strange people skills ruin our visit. You can also make your own donut which is pretty nice. We ordered some coffee which was pretty bad. The iced coffee and hot coffee were equally bad. Fixing the coffee could really take this place to five stars. My mom loved the donuts and I love how there are so many different combinations to make a fun and tasty donut. read more

First of all they make the donuts FRESH to order before dressing these babies up. They start with a standard cake batter donut and fry them up. This particular location isn't too difficult to get to and with the current pandemic, the time I came here was quite empty and easy to get parking. What I liked about this place was how spacious it was inside. The whole middle is just open space to stand and wander and the sides facing the windows is the seating. The donuts I expect it to be the same as other locations, but the freshly made concept makes these donuts phenomenal. They are delicious warm. The price was much lower than I expected. Typically for freshly made donuts, I expected $3-4 per donut, but I think it's less than $2 each. That may be because the donuts are made by a machine and the person edits the toppings which streamlines the whole process. Regardless on the chain aspect of this place, I thoroughly enjoyed these donuts and recommend you give it a try when you're in the area. read more

I came here on national donut day to see what the place was like and to get a free cinnamon sugar donut! The line was back to near the store's entrance with waiting customers & a few customers waiting on my right for their made-to-order donuts to be made and boxed or bagged up! When entering I had hoped to get one of the free made-to-order donut treats but alas the donut day freebie was a classic cinnamon sugar Duck donut. I'm not easily impressed by donuts. They never have enough coating, toppings and drizzle like the ones you can get here. My cinnamon sugar donut was warm, fresh & sweet. The donut had a lite texture & was completely coated with cinnamon & sugar. I read online that if you download the app & register for their rewards program you get a free made-to-order order donut. By earning 5 point for every dollar spent you get additional freebies. Some of the favorite customer donuts are s'mores, cookies & cream, peanut butter paradise & maple bacon. You can get a lot more than donuts here though including coffee, donut sandwiches and milk shakes. The donut topped milk shake would be fun to try. The customer service was good and very efficient. The staff was very busy, as was the shop, and they lacked real attention. It was a Sunday morning so having one person taking orders and two people making donuts seems to show a lack of understanding of staff management. I went there on a whim.
