They have many items that are vegan or can be modified, but are primarily meat driven. Would love to see more plant based and less dead animals on the menu, but will still support them for the options they do have. Make sure your server knows what plant based is because many of the sauces have animal products in them. My server didn't know and I had to ask about fish sauce, egg, chicken broth. I really wanted to love this place, but my whole food experience was just ok. For over a $100 meal I'd at least like it to be good and feel satisfied. Duck & Goat Spring Rolls: they're ok, heavy on cumin, crispy. Super Sticky Wings: again very cumin heavy, not sticky, questioned if they were slightly underdone. Fiery Shrimp: shrimp were well cooked and tasted fresh, liked the crunchy rice, overall a decent dish but spicy so stay away if you can't take some heat Pork with Pancakes: their pork was tender but the skin not being seared and left very flabby was a disappointment. The flavor was ok but again not wowed Overall ambience was nice. Music was a tad loud for dinner. The service was nice. They gave us free ice cream (vanilla & rhubarb) swirl for our birthdays. They also recommended the wings and noodles but we were good with a main dish, the fried rice and two starters. Cocktails are great. Limited beer selection but they have some good ones. Whoaaa! This place is a hidden freaking gem! I finally tried it after hearing a lot of hype from my friends. And oh boy, did it live up to my expectations. The ambiance has dim lighting, Chinese art work, warm and inviting vibe. My friends and I ordered from their vegetarian/vegan friendly menu. We shared scallion pancakes, veggie spring rolls, mushroom potstickers, glass noodles, mapo doufu and veggie fried rice. The portions are decent and it's super yummy, flavorful and perfect amount of spice for me. While all dishes were spot on, but mushroom potstickers stole the show for me. They were amazingly crispy, and delicious. We also got complimentary almond cookies after dinner. Drinks were also very good (we tried a few and all turned out to be incredible). Great experience. I went as a solo diner visiting from out of town and was well taken care of! First off, the ambiance and decor is gorgeous. It feels very high end but approachable and not stingy. I'm a fan of ginger-based cocktails, so the Walking on Sunshine was perfect for me -- a nice and refreshing complement to my meal. I started with shrimp shu mai but don't remember the exact name as they were on the special daily menu. For my entree I leaned on previous reviews and chose the duck fried rice. The soft boiled egg on perfectly flavored rice... to die for. You get a pretty heavy serving so I had enough to take home as leftovers. I was tempted to get another cocktail but opted for the ruby sneaker refresher. Don't underestimate their mocktails -- it made for a nice dessert substitute. I enjoyed the spring rolls and potstickers, but the fried rice omelet was my least favorite thing I ate during my time in Chicago this weekend. Our server was very knowledgeable, and the food came out quickly. Reservations are a must! The menu is great for sharing. Spicy Sticky Wings These wings were meaty and hearty, with a smoky flavor. They weren't overly spicy, making them perfect for even my friends' palates. Dan Dan Noodles Not your typical Dan Dan noodles, but still delicious! The noodles had a chewy, bouncy texture that I really enjoyed. Peking Duck Priced at $110, it's definitely on the expensive side, but worth it. The duck was crispy and tasted authentic--comparable to what you'd find in Chinatown, though at a higher price point. The presentation is impressive, with the whole neck and head served alongside the dish. Jiaozi (Dumplings) These dumplings were filled with beef short rib and bone marrow. Rich and hearty! I was in Chicago for a concert and my friend and I, while walking on Fulton Market stumbled upon Duck Duck Goat. We made the decision to check it out the following day for lunch. The vibe is really relaxed and cool! We didn't have a reservation but we were able to get a table really fast. We opted to try their Dim Sum brunch and here are a few items our amazing waiter suggested we try: - char sui bao: this dish was very tasty, don't let the 2 bao buns fool you, it is a really filling dish and one serving is enough for 2 people. The barbecue pork was juicy and tender - Jiaozi : amazeballs!! This was by far my favorite dish out of everything I tried. The potstickers were perfectly paired with mini peppers and just so juicy. If you're vegan they have a vegan option too! - Xiao long bao : this duck dumpling soup is next level. The duck was tender and very well seasoned. - chili chili noodles : this was delicious but on the spicier side. The noodles with the pickled cucumber made it a delicious combo. We ate a lot and didn't save room but dessert but it was a very delightful experience. We were a group of 6 with two vegetarians, and the restaurant was very accommodating with a separate vegetarian menu provided. Duck Duck Goat definitely lived up to the hype. I love Chinese food, live in LA and spent some time in China, so I wasn't sure if I would like the fusion food here. I was pleasantly surprised. I made an Open Table reservation on Tuesday for Thursday evening, and the only slots available were 4:30 and 5 pm. I'm not sure if walk-ins are possible and how long the wait would be, but I would definitely recommend making a reservation if you would like to dine in after 5:30 pm. The staff were friendly and accommodating. My party size changed twice due to people getting added and then some people not being able to make it, but I was able to modify the reservation by calling the restaurant. I absolutely love the vibes. The interior reminds me of Republican era China with the deep dark red wallpaper, yet when you look outside through the large glass windows you're reminded that you're in Chicago. My party of four did family style, and I tried a duck and goat xiao long bao, duck fried rice, scallion pancakes, Xi'an goat slap noodles, crispy banana dumplings, and blueberry baobing. We all said the two desserts were our favorites. I preferred the refreshing blueberry baobing over the decadent and indulgent crispy banana dumplings, but both were absolutely delicious. My favorite from the savory items was the Xi'an goat slap noodles, which had a little bit of a kick to it. I loved the texture and chewiness of the hand-pulled noodles. I had never had scallion pancakes with slaw before, but I enjoyed it. The pancakes were so crunchy biting into one was like ASMR. Like many, I have a huge crush on Stephanie Izard from her Top Chef days. So talented. So wholesome. So authentic. I'm not in Chicago often, so I jumped at the chance to dine at Duck Duck Goat, especially after having a great dinner at Girl and the Goat years ago. This dinner was a fancy hosted event with ten - TEN - courses and specialty cocktails. Could not be more up my alley. On the menu was: jiaozi xiao long bao crab rangoon veggie spring rolls green beans shishito peppers xi'an goat slap noodles veggie fried rice chongqing chicken several desserts I am not being hyperbolic when I say that we all ate so much that we thought our stomachs might burst on the spot. Indeed, I was in pain the following day. It was all worth it. While I thoroughly (albeit painfully) enjoyed the entire meal, a few standouts for me were the potstickers (tbf I've never met a potsticker I didn't like), veggie spring rolls, green beans (these were INSANELY good, I was not prepared to be so excited about green beans) and the fried chicken. The only thing that disappointed me were the slap noodles. And this was devastating because I am obsessed with noodle dishes. However, the consensus among everyone at my table was that there was way way WAAAAAY too much cumin in the dish. Truly, it was like the chef accidentally knocked over an entire cannister of cumin into the dish, didn't notice and then served it up. I have to think that ordinarily the dish is more balanced. The pork buns and hongshau rou were my two favorite dishes by far. I loved that you make little tacos with the pork belly in the hongshau rou -- it's hard to go wrong with a taco of any type. The goat & shrimp shumai and duck fried rice were a little too salty for my taste, but other than that it had a good flavor. The green beans were also tasty. So good a good vibes! Did 3 apps and 2 mains for 3 people and it was the perfect amount. For the apps, the duck hearts didn't really do it for me. They were chewy and I didn't love the horseradish aioli. The char siu bao were tasty, but a little dry. The crab Rangoon CSE out piping hot and I definitely burned my tongue a little, but they were absolutely my favorite app. The duck fried rice and the Dan Dan slap noodles were both fire.
