I had the most unexpectedly delightful lunch here the other day. I was looking for a spot near one of my favorite beaches and with duck in the name I knew we had to check it out. We all had such a nice time I almost don't want to review them as I'm sure there will be a line for this spot by the next time I'm back on the island. Let me start by saying the view of the ocean is perfect and I like that it is not on the ocean side of the street as it is not impacting the ocean and won't wash out. The patio had shades that retracted and fans to keep everything cool and breezy. The service was attentive and considerate. Water was never empty and I didn't have to ask for a plastic cup for my 3 year old etc. When we said we were eating family style they served the meal accordingly. As for the food, everything was delicious! Granted I like duck (a lot) but there are non duck options too. We ordered an assortment of baos which were unique and delicious. The crispy duck leg and crispy chicken both had shatteringly crisp exteriors while the inside was juicy and yet nothing was greasy. The surprise delight of the meal was a complimentary side of an egg drop soup. It had a duck and miso broth and was silky and delicious. I know, soup after the beach? Since they just had opened I made reservations (at 545pm) couple days before just in case but it seemed like it wasn't needed if you have a few people in your party. But definitely make a reservation so you have a time. Menu is fairly large and family style. Ube Noodz - sooooo good!! The broth was the star of the dish. Noodles itself was good and chewy. We shared it amongst 3 people and wished we had our own. (10/5) Puffed Shrimp - like any other shrimp tempura but the pig dipping sauce was good. (4/5) Pressed Duck Bao - I'm not a duck person but I ate it up! It didn't even taste like duck. The Bao bun was the softest one I've ever had. (5/5) Kurobuta Pork Dumplings - good flavor, the dipping sauce was a amazing. (5/5) Oriental Salad - basically a Chinese chicken salad but it was definitely good and not basic. (5/5) KAFC - it was very salty. We did ask our waitress if it was meant to be salty and she said yes. I could see it being good because the sauce was sweet to balance it out but it was just too salty for our liking. Not something we would get again. (1/5) Steamed Opakapaka - it is filets so don't be expecting a whole fish. Flavors went very well together. (5/5) Kaya Toast - please please try this! First off, it was easy to get a reservation, which is weird, because it was so good, while most other places were a challenge. Go there! Criticisms first: We had a brief problem with flies. Not sure what can be done about that with the open windows and doors, which was otherwise nice. Now, the rest: Service was amazing; the waitperson was friendly, engaged, and available. The food was also great. I like duck, and their roast duck is, of course, the centerpiece. But, all the other dishes were great as well, I don't think there was one dish I didn't enjoy. Everything is family style. Scallion cakes are always something to get if you see them on the menu. These were not very oily and were fairly crispy. The pressed duck bao, when it came out, was a little concerning that the duck looked burnt. But, no worries, it was really yummy, and the crust made it a little crispy. Garlic Chow Mein was good. I got it with char siu, and it's on top, not mixed in, and more like little pork steaks with char siu on the outside. Not fatty as it sometimes can be. Also, the cocktails were up to my craft standards. The Mai Tai wasn't my favorite, it had too much juice that made it not really a Mai Tai. The Fuh Lin Yu was superb, a real tiki drink. It reminded me of an impossible burger patti -Wagyu Burger Bao: My favorite, seasoned well, a bit chunky for the bao but delicious! -Crispy Octopus Bao: I enjoyed this one too. Small pieces of crispy octopus with a soft bao . The only issue with this was it wasn't consistent. We ordered 2 & one of the orders wasn't crispy. Dan Dan Noodles: it was stirred table-side for us. You definitely need this to be mixed well & should have meats & noodles in the same bite. I've had better because this one was a bit soupy. KAYA TOAST: the best way to describe it is a malasada filled with coconut Pandan, minus the sugar on the outside with a scoop of Kona coffee ice cream on top. It was pretty delicious but the Pandan didn't do anything for me. I'd give this place another shot cause it's a nice change from all the plate lunches. This place used to be a Chinese restaurant though we've never stopped by. In the midst of our desperation over Presidents' Day weekend since all other restaurants were packed or rained out, we came to the relatively empty duckine. Drinks are underwhelming in terms of alcohol, but creative. The food is basically average Chinese fare, plated nicely, with an exponential price tag. The duck and wings were seasoned well in the outside but inside was relatively bland. I will say that I did enjoy the buddhas bowl salad, but that's not typical Chinese fare. If you want Chinese go somewhere else. If you're looking for drinks with some ocean view with edible food, come here. read more

The food here was amazing. The portions were advertised as family style, but were fairly small. I'd recommend getting one entree per person and sharing. Unless getting half or full roast duck. These portions were generous. Parking was super easy with free valet parking, validated by your waiter through your phone. The service was quick and our waiter, Robert, was amazing. This is the coolest place in Lahaina! The decor is so cool, and the vibes are amazing. The menu is a very cool Chinese/Hawaiian fusion place. Unfortunately, Duckine lacks vegetarian options. My family got the bao buns and said they were delicious, and the meat was some of the best duck they had ever had. The crunchy noodles were impossible to eat and not filling at all. The green beans were extremely mediocre and needed more flavor. The scallion pancakes were my favorite things I tried. I am glad I tried this place for the vibes of it, but the food did not stand out to me. I wouldn't recommend going here if you are looking for excellent Chinese/Hawaiian food, but it is worth the excellent environment and the insanely lovely staff. read more

-Inside the restaurant it's a scorcher, so make sure to sit outside (which is of course limited). You can see ocean from outside seats but you have to balance that with a 4 way st on front st. -App: duck bao buns. Duck was dry like jerky (think turkey scene from Xmas Vacation). I did let the waiter know when asked how they were. He acknowledged it, but did nothing to rectify, and therefore I review since I paid full price. This was a pretty garbage way to start the meal. -Drinks were pretty good and avg price. -Mains: noodle dish and kung pao were solid, but the choice of fish in the kung pao messed up the flavor profile. Also, kung pao should come with rice, it's stupid that it doesn't. -They do have a kids menu. It is smaller versions of main dishes I believe. This is a problem for a younger kids or any that are picky. Not a knock, but be aware before you go. This is important as a lot of families come to Hawaii and sometimes there's nothing you can do but take them with you. -4% kitchen service charge, wtf? Plus 20% tip? Ouch. read more

Overpriced and trendy, fusion done wrong. The Yelp check-in for 20% off food didn't make it any better. I had high hopes for this place, but after my family and I tried a selection of their food, we left dissatisfied and disappointed. We even left a lot of food unfinished because it wasn't worth it to take to go. Keep in mind the dishes are $30 to $60 per plate on average, and entree serving sizes are only enough for 1 to 2 people to share. It was about $150 before taxes or tip for 3 entrees and 1 appetizer. There was no balance of flavors in their foods for the mixture of umami, sweet, sour, bitter, salty that they tried to create. Though the plating and presentation was there and tried to emulate elevated dining, there's no point if the food tastes subpar. We had the duck baos, ribeye steak, fried noodles with shrimp and veggies, and duck fat fried rice with shrimp. The only things I liked was the service, the outer bao buns (fluffy and light), the lightly poached/runny egg on the fried rice, and the shrimp atop the fried rice or crispy noodles. The pickled veggies in the duck bao did not go with the roasted/fried duck at all, and didn't taste fresh either (like they had pickled already wilted veggies). Ribeye steak was served atop hoisin sauce with a poor tasting, unbalanced version and imitation of vietnamese dipping sauce. Pointless to have two sauces that didn't go well together or even alone in the same dish. Steak also came with a side of lettuce leaves, cilantro, mint, cucumber and carrots to make lettuce wraps. Fried rice was way too greasy and underflavored. Fried noodles were underwhelming. There is complimentary valet parking outside which you need to get validated by your server on their app. Restaurant is located on the North end of downtown and coastal city of Lahaina in west Maui. read more

We intentionally skipped out on our Complimentary Breakfast our hotel offered, to anticipate the culinary journey we were about to embark when those restaurant doors opened up at 11am. Conveniently located on Front street in Historic Lahaina, Maui, Duckine offers a Hawaiian/Chinese fusion with elevated dishes and high class ingredients such as Wagu Beef Bao Buns, succulent duck and the Char Siu Pork Chop. Knowing that their Executive Chef Alvin Savella is a local boy with over 20+ years of culinary experience...I had to order one of everything on their "Lunch Kine Tings" menu. I heard it through the grape vine that the old fashioned was Chef's favorite cocktail and even though it was only 11:15am on a Friday morning I thought "What the heck, when in Maui every hour is happy hour" so I ordered just that and my wife got a lovely lavender cocktail that was garnished with beautiful lavender pedals. Then in came the dishes...starting with the poke in which is not made with your traditional ahi tuna NO! Chef uses a local Hawaiian fish and is bold enough to dress in it a phenomenal acidic sauce that paired so well with the dish almost giving it a ceviche/poke hybrid mouth feel and the aioli drizzled upon the top just brought the entire dish together! Next the crispy battered chicken wings that were hot and crunchy on the outside yet juicy and bursting with flavor once bitten into. Hands down the best chicken wings I've ever had in my life! Then came the tofu fried rice which (if you know me you know I don't do tofu) but the way Savella coats this dish in a hoisin sauce marinate and fries the rice to perfection...I selfishly ate every bite to myself while my wife enjoyed her Duck Leg quarter over white rice. She must've had the same thought process as she enjoyed every bite of that dish to herself any eyes gaze upon the next two dishes with Maui sunset eyes because these had to have been the most Sexiest dishes of the entire experience...The Wagu Beef Bao Buns and the Char Siu Porkchop This particular dish is where you can taste the heart and soul of this restaurant down to the bone literally! As if this entire experience wasn't Epic enough...as we were finishing up our meal Executive Chef and friend Alvin Savella blessed us with a surprise visit (on his day off) and took some photos with my wife and I and gifted us with an extraordinary desert on behalf of our anniversary. The duck was flavorful, nicely seasoned and crispy. My husband opted for the wagyu bao burger. He said the flavors were unique, the dish was fresh and it was surprisingly filling. My mom's char siu pork chop lunch plate was amazing. It came with bok choy and steamed rice. Of the kids meals the fried rice and taro noodle soup were a hit. I would pass on the rolled noodle. We have been here six times this week - That is how excellent everything is. As soon as we ate here, there was just no point going anywhere else. Every dish is excellent, you can't go wrong! Some of our favorites were: cheeseburger, duck bao, egg custard, crispy duck. Our favorite drink is definitely the "escape." But there is no bad dish, so try them all while you can! We normally love it, but it was a bit underwhelming. As good as the food was, our waitress "Coral" was a major highlight to our dining experience.
