I've contemplated trying Due Cucina every time I've passed it while leaving the Roosevelt Link Light Rail Station, but always ended up shying away due to being a bit intimidated by the ordering process and the fact that the three most tempting pasta sauces to me (the Smoked Salmon, Mushroom & White Truffle Oil, and Carbonara) all contain dairy. And I, as we all know, am violently lactose intolerant. Well, today was the day. I marched across the street, two Lactose pills in hand, why? FOR SCIENCE!!! So, here's an in-depth review for all of you who have been as hesitant as I was. 1) Enter through either of the two doors, and walk straight up to the counter. 2) If you're feeling a bit lost, go to the register in the farthest corner and ask the very nice staff to explain how to order. They have pasta examples on a plate and you can order at that register. 3) If you're feeling bold, you can just go straight up to one of the touchscreens and complete your order with no human interaction. (An introvert's dream!) The user interface is easy to navigate and the system is quick and responsive. 4) Choose your sauce, your noodles, any add-ons, and any sides, desserts, or drinks. Pay at the machine. 5) Fill your own water glass from the pitcher on the counter, and grab utensils and napkins from the other counter. 6) Find a seat and wait for them to call your name, then pick up your food at the counter. 7) After you're done, bus your own table and put your dirty dishes on top of the trash cans in the right corner of the restaurant. The restaurant: Casual vibes. Upbeat Latin music that's soft enough to easily hear your conversations. A variety of different seating options depending on your group size, some in well-lit areas and some that are more in shadow. (I think this spot would be fun for both families and dates.) The food: The portions were surprisingly big, which is always a plus for me. The prices were also reasonable (under $20 even with a couple of add-ons). The pasta wasn't mind-blowing, but it was still decent, yummy, and very filling. The noodles were a bit al dente and chewy. I appreciated the very attractive presentation. The Torta Della Nona dessert (described as a vanilla and lemon custard pie, topped with crumble and pine nuts), wasn't lemony at all and was very vanilla-heavy and sweet. I liked it, but someone who isn't a fan of very sugary sweet desserts might not. Overall, I could see myself coming here again if I wanted a quick meal or if I wanted to introduce someone to a build-your-own dining activity. read more

Soooooo goood! Simple menu but still a variety of options! You get to choose a sauce, a pasta and any add ons. I got the truffle and mushroom sauce with pork sausage. I've had this with bucatini and campanelle (low carb, high protein) which were both delicious. You can either order at the counter from an employee or order from an IPAD. High points were also given by family members on the smoked salmon as well as truffle mushroom pasta. All freshly made pasta and a "build your own" style to pick pasta, sauce, and protein. I opted for an eggplant parmesan which is not the usual heavily breaded patty but instead is a lovely dish of layered eggplant, cheese, and breadcrumbs. This one is fairly new but it's definitely worth a try. It's super convenient to get to since it's right next to the light rail station. Otherwise parking will likely be street parking. There is a lot of seating and on sunny days the side windows will all be open for a nice dining experience. You can essentially build your own pasta and they have a lot of options to choose from. You can't go wrong with anything really. I recommend the Creste Di Gallo with either the Bolgonese Ragu or Mushroom & Truffle Oil. The food doesn't take too long to cook and the serving size is good for the price. Overall very tasty pasta for a good price and good location. This is right beside Whole foods and is a modern dine in place. Loved their range of pastas and as a vegetarian I had almost 5-6 options which was empowering . I had aglio olio with the gluten free casarecce and my husband had the kale pesto with the normal casarecce. They were yummy !. The service was very courteous and the lady was very sweet and even showed me how they made their pasta in the pasta making machine. They make their own fresh pasta on site. read more

I got the vegetarian kale pasta and my partner got a meat pasta with extra meat. Both were meh. I didnt finish mine. We also got the burrata appetizer which was better than the pastas. Came in during the soft opening and was so excited as I love the Capitol Hill location. Think we were the first big ticket order they had as I had to feed 7 people. Pickup time was 6:45 and I didn't get my food until 7:15. When I got home I found out they forgot our dessert. Half our dishes tasted like I remember the other half tasted really watered down. Was super excited that a Due Cucina Italiana location opened up in my neighborhood. Finally decided to try it out and it was really amazing. There were so many options but the staff there were super nice and helpful. I ended up getting the kale pesto with the campanelle pasta. Some of the best pesto I've ever had it was so textured and you could really taste the kale! For dessert we got the tiramisu which was pretty good!
