Man am I glad this bar exists now! It is exactly what Soulard needed and having lived there for 4 year prior to moving to south city, I can say this from experience. -Great vibes! It has an awesome juke box and atmosphere. -The bartenders are AWESOME! Julie has been my girl since my Molly's days which were longer ago than I like to admit. They are FAST and super sweet and personable. -They have a tented off outside area where you can smoke if you like that. It's a little too much if many people are smoking but not terrible because there is good ventilation. -They have an upstairs that is almost like a make shift night club. There is a floor for dancing, a bar, and bathrooms. It's never super crowded on the dance floor but I don't think many people come to Duke's to dance. Unless it's happening after I leave. -It has a LOT OF GUYS that go there, definitely more men than women. Overall, Duke's is an amazing bar! I love coming here, it is one of my top places to go in St. Louis! read more

RBF blonde bartender could only be bothered to serve her admiring masses and could have cared less about the service to other women in the bar. It was not busy and yet I had to wait a ridiculous amount of time to get another beer and a shot, nothing complicated. No friendly greeting or polite goodbye either. Great food for a sports bar with lots of tv's

Stayed near this place, and was told by several people to check it out. Went in on a Saturday night for dinner, which was a huge mistake. If you are young, don't have great taste in music, and just want to drink (by the way, there is nothing else to do in St Louis), this place is for you. But I highly suggest not coming here to eat. This is where it gets fun! I ordered, in a refined scream, the Chicken lasagna with a side salad with ranch. I tried to order it with dressing on the side, but she could not hear me. First, here comes the salad. A white mound of unidentifiable mass arrived on a white plate. It was a large pond of ranch dressing without a hint of the color green. I attempted to undress a piece of the salad to find some greenery, but the ranch soup was to think. Needless to say, I did not eat it, nor did they care that I refused to consume it. At this point I'm really hungry, and time for some Midwest lasagna! It too arrived in a slightly larger, deeper pond of white sauce. In the overwhelming sauce, I took inventory of the ingredients: -3 limp lasagna noodles -A spattering of cubed chicken, most likely canned -3 limp spinach leaves. That was it. A bland, unflavored dish of white sauce layered with nothingness. I told my dinner companion that it reminded me of meals I saw prepared on my favorite show, Lock Up. (It did come with a piece of white toast that I inhaled.) She ordered the fried ravioli, which were perfectly fried squares that appeared to be right out of the box. My suggestion is that if you must go to Duke's, which is a good possibility if you are in St Louis because there is not much to do here, stick to ordering what the locals have been trained to do their entire lives: Choice #1: Bud Choice #2: Bud Light Good luck! read more

So I usually love this place it's my go to but I came here on football Sunday to watch with my boyfriend and 3 friends we grabbed 4 bar seats and were there from 12 to about 2:30 watching the game. 4 of us were drinking and the one that wasn't was our designated driver he bought one beer and lunch the bartender told him he was costing him money and changed his football game from the one we were watching and preceded to treat him like crap. We left and will not be back because the treatment of the bartender was not acceptable. read more

I'm a frequent visitor and never had a complaint; in fact come here for trivia night pretty often. This is my first ever Yelp review. Went here for Cardinal's Opening Day to watch the game. Went to get a drink at the downstairs bar and where it wasn't very busy at all. At the bar, the bartender in the pink tank top was telling "jokes." One of which was: "What did the pedophile Jew say?" And "I would serve you faster if you weren't a Muslim." Which she followed-up with "I kid. I kid..." Aside from the blatant racism, she was so involved in her own stuff to notice anyone waiting at the bar. I was standing there for 10 minutes as she continued to hug her friends and take shots with them before finally turning to me and only said, "I'll be right with you honey." -_- Then she went back to serving her friends shots and catching up with them. FINALLY the bar-back noticed I had been there for a while as he was making rounds picking up glasses and asked if I needed anything. I ordered my two beers and he quickly poured them out for me. I tipped him cash for the beers and told him I appreciated him going out of the way for me. EXCELLENT SERVICE from him. I can put up with jerk bartenders if they serve well and I can put up with poor service if the staff is friendly, but if you're being a terrible person AND providing terrible service, I think a Yelp review is justified. read more

Place is jumping on a Fri or Sat night (upstairs). Definitely a big crowd later in the evening so if you come too late you may not be able to get in upstairs. Patio is covered and beat, the first level is cool too. It's spacious. Bartenders are nice and helpful, pretty decent beer selection also. I live in the area so I'll be coming here more regularly than I have been. If you're looking for a fun atmosphere on a weekend, come here. It's a younger crowd upstairs for the most part. read more

I feel like the food here gets better every time I go. It's not just classic bar food, their salmon BLT is freaking amazing. It's a huge portion of salmon for a really reasonable price. Their wings and fries are also good. The downstairs is more of a cozy pub, they have a small patio, and the upstairs also has a bar that turns into more of a dance club at night. So I have never tried this cool bar in soulard named Duke's before but I had the best time of my life and it's all thanks to the best bartenders in Saint Louis-- Mason and Nikki. They served me a cocktail that filled my mouth with a flavor so beautiful and immersive I felt as if I were falling into a bed of roses hand crafted by Joseph Smith, the one true savior. I used to be Mormon but once I tasted this glorious cocktail I had to become a Jehovah's Witness as I had seen god and could no longer refute his existence. Also these cool guys in the corner kept taking their shirts off. It was really entertaining showed me all around the city but somehow we just ending up back at Dukes to drink some fine wine. So we went to Dukes (me and my significant) and waited 8 minutes at the least for them to ask us if we needed anything, but before that, an employee of theirs walked over to me to ask why I was filming them.....my significant other begin to tell him to leave me alone and he continued. At this point we (me and my significant other) felt very unsure if we would even want to stay. Another employee walked over to apologize to us for his counter parts actions, but after that we we're also grilled by the bartender about me filming. When you go in any place nowadays your using Snapchat or Instagram to document the moment but because I was using my actual camera app, we were harassed and ended up leaving. I was really hesitant that this place would be another Soulard "Bro" bar, but I was pleasantly surprised. Yes it is a sports bar, and there are TV's but its a beautiful space. The wood on the walls and trayed ceiling make me think it was once a cigar bar or something. The bar itself was a large square. I love that because you have a good view of the kitchen, and lots of good people watching. They have great beers (all good craft beers) on tap which was an awesome surprise. The food was DAMN good! We had the Spinach and Artichoke dip, Brisket Sammy, and the wings. That sweet chili soy is baller. I literally could not be much happier, the service was great too, and they were not slow by any means. We are planning our next visit already. Very happy this place is around and was able to surprise us on so many levels. Definitely a treasure! read more

Our waitress Laura was the best part of this lunch adventure: Sorry to say this place is way to expensive. We both ordered the smashed cheese burger with chips, no they don't have fries REALLY. You would think a cheese burger would come with cheese BUT SURPRISE it cost you $1.00 for the cheese REALLY I thought it said CHEESE BURGER ... The chips are not home made in the restaurant they are made somewhere else and put in little bitty bags like you can buy at any store. ( Billy Goat Chips) yes they are good. Our CHEESE burger with bagged chips and a $3.00 glass of tea which is the most expensive tea we have come across, will cost you $14.13 plus tip. That is way to expensive for a CHEESE burger , chips and tea.. the burger is pretty good BUT why stop here when there are many other places a block away that is cheaper and much better CHEESE BURGERS that come with cheese for no extra hidden cost. Laura said they have been open under new management for about a year. Don't think they will be there very long charging what they charge. No we will not be going back , guess why ... you got it $3.00 tea and hidden charge for cheese on a cheese burger.. And like always you may like this place...it's just not for the THLG The only reason we rated it a 2 is because Laura works her butt off working all alone tending bar and waiting tables... I saw an ad for this place in a food magazine. There are five of us sitting in a corner booth. They are currently playing some county music but have be playing a nice mix of music. We ordered food. I had the pork chop. It was absolutely delicious. My daughter had a steak sandwich which she really enjoyed, my son-in-law and the po' boy that he really enjoyed. Everything was just fantastic. Service is great, the bartenders great, the drinks are really good and just an overall great experience. I highly recommend Dukes in Soulard. read more

Do not get the burger offered for National Burger week! The two "smash patties" may have been 2oz each but came nowhere near to the edge of the bread. The "gooey cheese sandwiches " that served as the bun were actually two dried and burnt grilled chez sandwiches (I'm pretty sure they used a slice of processed American fake chez). But the tomatoe was nice and big and the lettuce was very crisp. So there's that. This was not a fluke. All three of our burgers were cooked and served that way. Oh! And the waiter was weird. This place has a great vibe but their Tv's don't work. the right booth TV was flickering in and out during the game broadcast which was livery disappointing. It really impacted our experience negatively. The service was ok, the music was great, food was average, but as a sports bar your one job is to be play sports, and they just don't do that well at this place. Neil is inappropriate and rude. The way he speaks to people is disgusting. Don't think about moving chairs or barstools. Don't think about sitting at a table. Honestly, don't even think about going here. "Reserved" signs sit on patios tables for who knows what reason. They're not reserved for anyone. The bartender, Neil, decides if you can sit there or not. Again, for who knows what reason. Why not just make it easy and have a "Please wait to be seated" sign. I attempted to move a chair to sit. He yelled " no one move a fucking piece of furniture"..."ask me and I'll move it"..." I don't need you moving chairs, falling, and suing us". It was embarrassing as everyone was starring at me. I love this place! Got introduced to this place a year ago and everytime I come into town or go to a blues game we go here. I love soulard and this is always a must go to bar. I love the different levels and dancing the night away! Always play great music and had an awesome DJ lastnight. I also loved how we could go downstairs and watch the Blues game if we wanted a break from music. The bar is decent just avoid the outside patio like the plague unless you want to be treated like dirt by the bartender NEIL. We were a group of 4 trying to order food and were told tables were reserved only to learn they weren't actually reserved for anyone in particular. We were told by an apparent regular patron that if we asked the bartender nicely he might let us sit there. He was rude to the point of being obnoxious. Too bad one rotten apple ruins the whole barrel. The security men and Megan did their best to make it right, however, I would strongly suggest the management look to replace that bartender with someone who knows how to treat paying customers. Duke's is a popular Soulard sports bar with ample TV' s, a party room upstairs and decent food. Overall, it's got all of the right bones. My chief complaints are that the acoustics are terrible both upstairs and down and it is as loud as it gets. The other gripes would be that the small, enclosed courtyard is super smoky (they are riding the line on the outdoor smoking law with this one because it's not completely open on one side). Popular place and I will go if that's where my friends want to go, but it won't be my suggestion. read more
