tldr: valuable items we packed ourselves, worth over $2000 missing after move and we can't even file a police report. Warning to anyone considering this company. They quoted 30 boxes after reviewing photographs of our entire apartment. We then packed half ourselves to protect valuables -- yet they somehow packed far more than 30 boxes from the remaining half. Why? They pack deliberately loose to inflate box count, since they're paid per box. They even boxed furniture items like an air purifier and plastic drawers. It gets worse. The mover offered to not report the inflated box count to the company -- if we tipped him extra. We declined, and the company tried to charge us hundreds of dollars. When we threatened to audit every box for loose packing, they waived the charges. When our belongings came out of storage, we found: damaged furniture, a scratched door handle, broken items, and incomplete packing. Their "unpacking service" meant dumping everything on countertops. Most seriously: multiple valuable items we packed ourselves -- perfume, makeup, a designer bag, and cash -- went missing from boxes we personally packed. We did not expect packers to go through boxes we packed ourselves. And after we raised this, we discovered something far worse -- contracts in our file with signatures we never provided, identical to their own representative's signature on the same documents. This appears to be a pattern: other customers online describe nearly identical experiences, including forged signatures and extortion attempts during their moves. Due to the move crossing state lines (NYC to NJ), we have been unable to file a police report. If you value anything you own, do not use them.

This was the most unprofessional and worst moving experience we have ever had. First, we booked for a packing and moving service and had asked for a pre-move walk through to prevent any day-of hiccups or unforeseen charges, which they never did. Secondly, we were told the entire service would take a few hours but after a 7am arrival, the move was still going on at midnight. We had to scramble at the last min to find accommodations for us and our kids because they didn't finish when they said they would. They suddenly said all of our items wouldn't fit into the truck they brought, and that was another excuse to tack on fees. They charged us several additional fees actually. They tried to make a deal with us directly, so it wouldn't go back to the office and official channels, which seemed like a total scam. The movers packed our items super unprofessionally: -kitchen knives were thrown into boxes with our daughter's stuffed animals. -casserole dishes and pans were stacked on top of each other without being individually wrapped. -our clothes were thrown on hangers tangled into boxes and not hung into wardrobe boxes. -our items had mud on them. -our plants were snapped in half when we unwrapped them. At one point, they realized they had forgotten their tool kit at our old apt and couldn't rebuild our bed at the new apartment and asked US to Uber there to pick it up. When they were "done", we went back to our old place, and there were entire cabinets that were still full, and empty soda and trash disrespectfully strewn about on the floor. Worst of all --some of our items were missing such as small electronics and a bracelet. We later learned from our neighbors that they had to also file a criminal complaint with the police after their DUMBO move had resulted in missing jewelry. We submitted an official complaint to DUMBO after the fact, and tried to get some money back, but they gave us pennies compared to the total cost. STAY AWAY!!

Dumbo Moving arrived so late that I had to load the majority of my items into the U-Haul myself. This move was the most stressed and sore I've been in a very long time because of the incompetence and misinformation of Dumbo Moving. They quoted 2 men for 3 hours with a 9-11am arrival window. The crew did not arrive until 3:30 PM. At no point did they contact me to warn me about the extreme delay. I had to call them 6 times the day of the move and each time they stated an arrival time that ended up being false. Their delay then caused me to drive the U-Haul in rush hour NYC traffic, adding more hours to my 5 hour trip. To add insult to injury, they required full payment in advance of my move. I am admittedly an idiot for paying upfront but at least I have learned my lesson for next time. Lastly, their representatives were unprofessional. Here is a list of some of the interactions I had on the day of the move: -The man who initially answered the phone one of the times told me a 1pm arrival and then proceeded to tell me "I don't need this" when I said that they quoted me 9-11 and that 1pm was unacceptable. He sent me to Dave who then told me they would be there at 12. (Which was false given they actually arrived at 3:30) -I got hung up on when I checked in at 1:00. -At 2:08 the dispatcher said they would call the crew to check the arrival time and then call me back. You guessed it, they never called me back.

Rati Nukri and Giorgi (truck 104) did a great job disassembling, moving, and assembling a heavy piece of furniture as well as moving several delicate pieces in an interstate move. Thanks! read more

From the first inquiry to the final delivery, working with Dumbo Moving was an excellent example of customer service. Their responsiveness and organization set the bar not just for moving companies, but for all of us interacting with customers. Update: After writing my review on March 4th, I received a call from Larry the Customer Service Manager on March 11th apologizing for how I had been treated and asked for a full report of what had happened. He was very kind, understanding, and apologetic on the phone. He let me know that the specific mover I had, there had been other complaints about him and he would be moved off. He then provided an additional refund for my troubles that I received today March 17th. The amount I got back is not typical but due to the severity of my claim I was given one. I am satisfied with Larry's handling of the situation! --written March 4th I'm not sure what's worse, the breaking of covid compliance, the 8 hours it took them to move us, making us sit in the car for hours in the cold, or the sexual harassment my roommate and I faced. Below are a recap of what occurred and pictures of the 2 movers note wearing masks. 1) The movers did not wear their masks. This is in direct violation of the COVID Safety Plan. The one mover who had his mask on when first arriving immediately removed it once in our apartment. They did not remain 6 feet apart and put my roommate, myself as well as tenants in the building at risk. Our landlord received multiple complaints for other tenants that were uncomfortable. 2) The movers took over EIGHT hours to move 3 avenues down the street. This is completely absurd. We were given a 1-2pm window. They showed up at 12:15pm, did not start taking our packed items until about 1:00pm and made us wait outside in the cold while they took a phone call. It took them 5 hours to pack our already packed apartment and 3.5 hours to unload the truck at the new place. We arrived so late (after 6:15pm) to finish moving into our new apartment that our new landlord received complaints from neighbors about the noisy disruption to the building. They blocked the hallways with mattresses and boxsprings. 3) When we asked why the move was taking so long they told us that their partners were "sick" and to please not tell Dumbo about the full crew not being at the location. This is also rude seeing as this move would have possibly gone smoother if everyone would have been at the site. 4) The movers made one of us sit in the truck to watch it for over 5 hours in the 30 degree weather. This is completely unacceptable. We agreed to watch the truck "for a bit" so we did not get a ticket (which is not our responsibility) we agreed on the basis of her being in there for an hour or so. Not 5. When we asked the movers if she could leave as it's not our responsibility they claimed she is fine and had no regard for her well-being. 5) The movers left without taking all of our stuff. We had gone over the quote and they wanted to charge us for extra items like bags of pillows. We were told that we needed to quote the amount of furniture, not the amount of clothes and bedding we had. At around 5pm, the movers had told us they were finished and left and we had to call them and bring out more of our stuff. 5) During this "extra item" experience, the movers implied that they wanted sexual favors from my roommate and I. When I asked them to put this in the truck they said and I quote "You're going to treat us right? What kind of special favors are you going to give us for this. (Winked) We expect special favors and special treatment." I am still extremely upset about this experience even though it took place 2 weeks ago. This is disgusting and inexcusable behavior. 7) The movers were rude and made sexist comments. Every time we offered to help out or ask if they needed anything they told her "you're not strong enough to help" and to "chill out lady" These comments are straight up sexist. It is not okay. 8) My roommate and I UNPACKED and UNWRAPPED all of the furniture in the apartment. They did not do any of it. They also didn't ask if we had specific locations for furniture, they just dumped everything in the middle of the rooms. 9) A dresser, pots, and frames were all damaged. One of the boxspring was installed upside down. 10) We demanded a refund and luckily have received it but it was as fight. We tried calling to resolve the issue & they claim that their customer service person doesn't have a direct phone # ?? Anthony was extremely rude and condesending and every email he sent was horrible. NEVER EVER USE THEM. read more

Truck 064 was awesome - whole move took only 3.5 hours, including a 2 floor walk up and the 30 extra minutes was waiting for the elevator at the new apartment to be available. I was quoted from another company that it would be an 8hr job with 3 movers so was very happy with how quickly they were able to get everything out and in, especially with only 2 people! Marko and Nikola were super friendly and professional I called around probably 7 different places and Dumbo movers definitely had the best price. My only complaint is with their online quoting system - it does need to be updated. I selected the flat fee 16' truck with the silver package and the online quote was around $620 but when I heard back from the sales team it's closer to $850. I figured the original quote was too low, just based on prices I was getting from the other companies but I couldn't get a good answer from their sales team as to where the discrepancy was. The only line item I could see for sure was off was the stair fee - the online quote lists $30 total when it is actually $60 per flight But again the actual move experience was great - very quick and friendly and took good care of my stuff read more

If you enjoy basically slave labor, employees who don't actually want to do their job, moving as slow as humanly possible and complaining to you the whole time, while getting paid barely anything (so they told us multiple times) because your money doesn't go towards them, having to argue and beg them to actually do the move, them going so slow that a 2-3 hour job takes longer than a work day, and then getting yelled at when the job is over because the extra money you gave them (since they didn't really get paid) wasn't enough, then go for this shady company. We thought we would save a couple hundred dollars and go with Dumbo moving, huge mistake! The miscommunication between whoever we paid and their employees is insane. We went over a list in great detail with them, of what needed to be moved, we got a quote, the people that showed up had no idea what they were moving, they basically refused to move the furniture (which was most of the list) and they only brought a van which was not big enough. This made us have to call their boss multiple times, which took around half an hour to force/ beg them to do the actual job and to do two trips, and to actually take the furniture, which they did not want to do, they only wanted to grab small bags and pillows (which were not on the list at all) and this made them miss another job they had lined up, but this is bc they moved extremely slow, and didn't bring an adequate vehicle. Once they were done we paid them an extra $200 because they guilted us for them not getting paid by their boss and for us being so cheap? We were extremely uncomfortable and my wife was crying, and they were calling their boss in our apartment asking the boss when they were going to get their money. What a nightmare! Oh and we had to move the rest of the stuff they refused to move by ourselves in a small car for the entirety of the next day and miss work. What did we pay for??? I hope a woman isn't by herself while having them move her apartment, the whole thing was very unsettling. Only giving two stars because they had to work which is literally what the job is. read more

These guys packed up a dead mouse in a trap and put it in a box next to my kids toys. They said weren't responsible and they didn't see it. If you are looking for that level of attentiveness when packing up your belongings, then they may me OK. not for me. They also damaged my walls when moving furniture in. I asked them to use a blanket to cover the sharp corners of the item and they didn't listen. Now I have holes in my wall. read more

This was our first time using movers and we had a great experience with Dumbo. Their customer service team (specifically Kyle) was super helpful in walking me through what made the most sense for our move, without trying to just sell me unnecessary services, he was VERY responsive and accommodating of all my requests (including asking if they could unload our truck starting at 5pm the next due to an access issue, and working with me to reschedule the moving dates a few times). When the movers actually came-- the process took 3 days: the first day they came at 9 to pack up 50 boxes as I requested-- they did this in about 3 hours-- super efficient. Then Armin and his team (Truck 71) came the next day to load up the truck and they treated all of our belongings with such care and were able to load up all of our awkwardly shaped furniture and everything into the truck. The next day they dropped everything off and again we're SUPER accommodating with all requests and made sure to unload everything exactly where we wanted it. Moving is such a stressful experience, I kept waiting for something to go wrong, and it never did-- Dumbo truly blew us away with their professionalism and service. Oh and I called 5 different moving companies to get quotes for our move and Dumbo came in significantly lower than all of them. I hope we don't have to move again for a long time, but if/when we do I will definitely be using Dumbo again. read more

I don't understand all these positive reviews. This is the reason why I hired Dumbo movers but they were horrible. I do understand that moving is never perfect, but these guys did so many blunders that it was beyond my tolerance limit and I just couldn't keep quite with my experience. We opted for both packing and moving and paid a steep price hoping that our move will be comfortable. But the service was horrible! The packers were just dumping everything in boxes randomly. They didn't follow some of the basic rules of packing like bathroom floor mats should be packed separately from rest of the items in bathroom like toothpastes and trimmers etc. Wine bottles were packed in electronics box and the bottle broke with wine all over the items in the box which had things like TV remote, wires and fire stick etc. Luckily the remote and fire stick were working fine but the wine bottle was expensive around 200$! The packers/movers didn't speak english and it was difficult to communicate. Towards the end, they were in a hurry and didn't do the unpacking properly. They just left everything scattered in all rooms. TV was not assembled properly on stand and curtains were not installed! If you tell them, they either don't understand or say they'll fix it later as there is a lot to finish. I gave 230$ tip despite their poor service but it wasn't enough. The guys were visibly upset. I felt sympathetic as these guys were immigrants and in bad condition so I ended up calling them back and giving them more tip. I would have expected a much better job given dumbo movers charged me around ~3000$ for this move! I wound't recommend these movers at all. Definitely not their packing service. read more

Do not use this company! They claimed they left my 800 air conditioner in the side of the road, unattended, and it went missing. The owner said it isn't their fault even though they were in possession of my belongings which they were responsible for transporting from point a to point B. Any mover with experience or a tiny bit of knowledge would understand that someone needs to always be watching the belongings. Either they are thieves and stole it, which is my opinion, or incredibly incompetent. Either way you're screwed. The owner is refusing to do anything to compensate me for the possessions of mine they were responsible for and left unattended irresponsibly. read more

I've used Dumbo moving twice and I've never had a bad experience with them. Both times they've showed up on time, price was competitive, their communication was solid, they took extra care to my items and property and they were efficient. Prior to Dumbo, I used some pretty disorganized moving companies and they didn't take the extra care to basic things like coffee tables or furniture. SCAM ALERT A few more watch-outs (if you for some crazy reason still hire Dumbo, which I'm begging you not to as you will get scammed). -Dumbo claims they will professionally wrap paintings. Reality: half a moving blanket, thrown into the back of a truck. -Dumbo claims they will professionally pack and move furniture. Reality: packing tape directly on a upholstered couch which permanently damaged it. -Dumbo claims they will maintain COVID protocols. Reality: they won't wear masks and will ask you to provide them refreshments. - Upon further inspection, they also damaged our new apartment walls (dented, paint chipped, etc) read more

This was my first time using a moving service and I will never move my stuff by myself again. Super friendly, helpful, and patient staff. They told us we'd receive our entire shipment in one day and they did exactly that, practically down to the minute. Couldn't be happier with how smooth the entire process went! The movers, themselves, were very professional and attentive to our needs. When they reassembled our furniture, they actually put our couch back together stronger than it was when we moved. Highly recommend this service. Will be using them again for future moves, 100%. Unfortunately I had a very poor experience with Dumbo moving. The job was underquoted even though we sent pictures of the house and everything in it and for a 1:00pm start time they arrived at 5:00pm. Clearly it was not enough time so they charged me an extra $8000 to get a second crew out to finish the job. On moving the items back they charged an additional $7000. Mind you this is a single family home. The total cost to move was not worth it I would have to say. This is partially my fault because I didn't do my homework and look into them a bit more. My suggestion......look somewhere else or expect to pay tens of thousands of dollars to move with them. read more

Update: Anthony gave us a reimbursement of $500 which he automatically put in our card. He emailed us stating he found the glass table and is shipping it to our place. Although we have to spend time and spend more money for the TV since it's out of stock (doesn't include the features we previously had) and hard to find Anthony worked well with us to give us back what they can. Again, the lesson learned here is to pay for the insurance you know best that will protect you belongings and trust the process. Thank you Anthony for being understanding. Even though I was VERY pissed if you can imagine by finding out a problem after a problem.. moving is hard and these people are put under stress as well. I will say their labor work is very appreciated and the way they disassembled everything was quick and takes the stress out of the mover. Just again, consider taking extra insurance to protect your belongings. We paid to move with the invoice that provided protection to our furniture and everything else. We were asked to tip the guys while they were still moving our stuff in. One of the guys told us our dinning table got lost in the storage unit so I should call Dumbo moving company to find it. (I assumed after it probably broke because it was a glass table). Honestly we thought everything was going well and the guys were nice... until we turned on our TV and saw it was damaged (our warranty couldn't cover it). We asked for some kind of reimbursement for the TV and dining table but because of the type of protection/insurance we used it only covered $500. Total price for the TV after taxes & warranty is $620 and the dinning table is a total $206. While I was there during the move, from what I seen they only protected the TV or dinning room (glass) table with a blanket. Just terrible and unfortunate experience afterwords as all we wanted was to be happy and settled with our move. read more

Let me start off by saying this was a long distance move from New York City to Seattle, Washington. They put me with one of their sales reps, Danny, who was great from start to finish. I was a little hesitant on the reviews at first, but he assured me that as long as I have an accurate list of items and description of furniture (also sent in pictures to help determine) there will be no extra charges. With my entire quote of boxes and items, Dumbo was actually the cheapest movers in New York, comparing them to about 5-6 others I received quotes from. I actually received a quote from PODS that was just as much as Dumbo, but obviously Dumbo would be doing all of the moving, wrapping, and heavy lifting for you, was a no brainer. My stuff arrived at my new apt in Seattle in 10 business days, which I thought was pretty fast considering they had to go down South to Florida first. There were a couple of dings and scratches but I feel that's normal wear and tear on a move this large. Since it was just the driver in the destination, they hired one local moving guy, Jim, to help with carrying and unpacking my items. He was so amazing that I actually got his number to show me around the area since I don't really know anyone here yet! Lastly, a shuttle price was included in my quote for the destination drop off as I was unsure of the unloading requirements of the building (items were in a tractor trailer). Turns out we did not need the shuttle and Dumbo refunded me fully for the price of the shuttle. Not sure what I would've done without them! read more

Where to begin with this SCAM of a company which you should avoid at all costs!!! 1) The movers REFUSED to wear a mask (one of the two of them didn't believe they were effective as stopping the spread of COVID despite Dumbos alleged COVID protocols in their Agreement 2) If they damage your belongings they only reimburse based upon the weight of the item not its value or importance ($0.60 per pound) so if they damage an expensive lightweight item good luck to you. 3) They also refuse to repair any damage and force you to pay for it and will not reimburse you. Not only did they damage my belongings they put it together improperly upon delivery and will not send anyone to fix this issue. 4) The movers were in a rush and treated my belongings as such. The movers kept referencing 2 other jobs they had to do that day so they moved as fast and as reckless as possible. 5) Upon arrival (which was actually timely) the movers demanded I pay for any parking tickets they got - never heard of that before nor was that in my agreement with Dumbo. 6) Upon complaint they reference the insurance language in their emails, but forget that if you damage someone's property you are liable for the cost to repair or replace. Dumbo attempts to skirt the law with this unconscionable provision. 7) The claims manager Anthony refused to reimburse me for the damaged item, nor pay for any type of repair. The sales representative who sent me the contract was Tony - neither were helpful or cared about my belongings or well-being. DO NOT HIRE DUMBO UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES TRY YOUR LUCK WITH YOUR OWN U-HAUL IF YOU CANNOT FIND ANY OTHER MOVING COMPANY read more

PLEASE LISTEN TO THIS REVIEW AND DO NOT USE DUMBO. We started Dumbo back in February 2021. The movers were threatening and stood between the truck and my husband as they demanded a 20 percent cash tip. The man on the phone when we called said, you should give it to them since they would be the ones moving your things back! It was more than 2500 than expected but that was just the beginning. They was very intimidating and my husband was alone as I had started teaching in my new job.Two years later, when they first delivered our things, they delivered half my piano, half the couch and only part of the order. When they returned the next weekit wasn't until 9 at night as their crew had been to Albany. I have to say the second crew two years later was wonderful but they overwork them and we made them dinner so they had the strength to get home. (In the end it was their 1400 tip the company used to give us a small percentage of our loss which is unfair to them!) We paid over 900 a month for almost two years. When they came back to give us our things, our dining room table worth thousands of dollars had been stored facing the leaves together and taking the finish off. They delivered our bookshelves but "lost the bookcase". It was from a former student's family store and over 2000 to replace. They lost a special chandelier my husband had given me for Christmas. We had a mattress and and and headboard, but no boxspring and frame. (Lost?) Our leather couch had been taped and when the tape was taken off, it took the finish off. They broke almost all of our outdoor furniture and gave us three umbrella stands but no umbrellas! How does a moving company lose furniture? Isn't that their business? Upon the second visit, they delivered a 30000 baby grand piano (not mine!) and said, do you want to just keep it as it was difficult to move). If we had said yes, what would they tell the owners, they lost it? We kept our own piano which thankfully was not damaged. I immediately spent months on my way to school each day on the phone asking to find my things. They said they would try but couldn't locate. They said I could tour their warehouse in Brooklyn, laughing at me, if I liked! I was treated rudely by many of the staff balking at my wanting my things restored or paid for but did work with a very kind man, Walter. He referred me to the claims department (which is unreachable by phone, only e-mail, how convenient!) informed me I didn't take the extra insurance and would get 60 cents a pound for my losses! It equaled 300 dollars when my damages were well over 28 thousand! I couldn't believe this was happening. My husband and I are near retirement, were ripped off the last two years by contractors but now to have our movers do this was unthinkable. In the end, they gave me 1400 dollars. which they took from the tip of the hard-working second group of movers and said I should feel lucky I got that. It barely replaced the bookcase. We rarely write anything. We have been seriously hurt by doctors, contractors, and others. We have never sued anyone or been one to hold grudges, but if this prevents an unknowing person or family from getting ripped off by DUMBO, I HOPE THIS WAS NOT DONE IN VAIN. i WILL END THE SAME I STARTED. NEVER USE DUMBO MOVING COMPANY! read more

HIGHLY RECOMMEND. The crew I had went above and beyond during my move. I accidentally left my clothes in a dresser and they were kind enough to bag them up for me. My new apartment was a 5th floor walk up and they were such great sports about it. Not to mention how well they handled some of my most valuable items (2'x3' antique mirror and 4'x6' paintings. I searched far and wide to find a reasonable price for NJ to NYC. Every other company was going to charge an arm and leg because it's was an interstate move. I started to consider trying to figure out a way to move completely on my own but a friend recommended Dumbo. Do yourself a favor and book them as your movers. read more

Do NOT hire this company. I had the absolute worst experience. I was moving from my home to a storage facility. ( my new house wasn't ready yet) the company insisted it would take one day when I told them it will take 2. At about 6pm the foreman of the job realized it wasn't going to be finished so told me it's going to be $1200 to come back tmrw to finish. ( my closing was that day) I said ok. Well he never told his boss the job was going to take another day instead he pocketed the money, removed the GPS from his truck so his boss couldn't find him. I found this out bc after the move was over I called the company furious with things that happened and he described it as a one day move. I texted him the Venmo proof that I paid for a second day. I have many lamps.. standing and counter ones with crystal. They didn't wrap one of them. Not even bubble wrap. Nothing. I got a call from the storage unit saying they are going to evict me bc they close at 9pm and 2 nights on a row the movers were there until 10pm. They also left my furniture in the halls of the storage facility. Not in the storage unit. The woman said it was there 2 nights in a row. So much of my furniture was stolen. Yes, stolen. More of it was destroyed by the move. Don't call them. Please trust me. It was just an utter disaster. Please do not use them. There's many other things that went wrong . They are so unprofessional and are a bunch of thieves. They talk a good game.. very convincing but they are awful! Don't do it! read more

WORST MOVING COMPANY IN NYC - MOVERS LOST/STOLE $1,000 ITEM AND AVOIDED ANY RESPONSIBILITY Have been in NYC for a few years now and have moved apartments ~5 times seamlessly without any issue with other moving companies. Gave Dumbo a try this time because they had the cheapest quote for a small move (with the ability to select a moving van instead of an entire truck). The movers were negligent throughout the entire move - often careless with furniture and ignoring instructions. After they finished moving, I discovered that I was missing a very large $1,000 new electronic that was very noticeable (packaged separately in original manufacturers box). I contacted the movers a few hours later and they were extremely adamant on avoiding responsibility and providing vague answers about the item. I realized afterwards that they had been acting suspiciously the entire move. For example, there was a huge delay between driving to the new apartment and they were in a huge rush to leave after finishing (didn't even stick around for a tip, as I had to practically stop them to give them cash tip). The company was completely useless in processing a claim and stated that they had done a "thorough" investigation of the vehicle afterwards (useless management). I've been working with building management to review security footage and legal action / police report to follow. DO NOT EVER USE DUMBO. read more

My ex and I used Dumbo twice. And I used it once on my own. I think the pricing is a little high but you get what you pay for. Igor and his partner moved me from Manhattan to Hoboken seamlessly. They were early and quick and made sure to get the go ahead from my doorman. My friend who was with me also commented on how efficient, professional, and friendly they were. They were patient when they couldn't find parking (even though I had paid for spots to be open but they weren't) and even carried up additional bags I brought in my Uber with me. Yes you can pay for 2 guys and a van but will they clean up after themselves? Will they remove your parking signs? Will they set up your bed in no time flat and bring some boxes down? The answer tends to be no. If I need to move again, I'd love to use them again. read more

Update. They called me today to try to get me to remove this review. They said they'd give me $350. Nope. Do not use them. They pay for bad reviews to be removed. Update 2: they called TWICE today trying to get me to remove my negative review. They offer money to remove reviews but won't honor any claim if you leave a negative review (yelp caught them). read more

Arrived late for business related move; very disorganized. End of day quote was higher than estimated, despite the movers arriving late.

Just had a great moving and packing experience with Dumbo Moving and Storage. crew 033 (Pavle and Vuhon) were awesome. moved really fast, took great care to pack carefully and then helped me transport 22 boxes of stuff to UPS for a cross country relocation. Susie was a fabulous customer service salesperson and scheduled everything perfectly on short notice. it was a huge relief to have Susie and her team ride to my last minute rescue. Awesome people! Meet the Business Owner: Lior R.
Mainly a musician for most of my life, I came to NY in 1998 and followed the Brooklyn music scene in Williamsburg and DUMBO. I started working as a mover in the leading moving companies in NYC as a driver then manager. Later I opened a recording studio in DUMBO, but the scene began to change when musicians and artists were fighting with the landlords and developers, a lot of the pioneers of DUMBO left the neighborhood because they couldn't pay rent or kept switching buildings. I decided to keep the studio, and to open a moving company next door named Dumbo Moving and Storage Inc., as an answer to the big migration to Brooklyn. DUMBO stands as a beacon for the first landmark coming in to Brooklyn, and Dumbo Moving was an answer for many of the newcomers. As a professional mover, with a passion for fairness, I decided to give customers an affordable solution for all the over-priced moving quotes in New york City. We now are the biggest, and most affordable moving company in Brooklyn.

Most horrifying moving experience! I used them twice over 3 years, and both times they made me feel unsafe. As a former diplomat, I have had over a dozen professional moves, and I have never been mistreated the way I was by this company. Below are a few key points that anyone should consider, before choosing this company. I, who do not intimidate easily, was made to feel unsafe both times I used this company. I have to question if this same behavior occurs when they are not dealing with a single woman. 1) No accountability: -- On my most recent move with this company, they sent a 3-person team. Two of them knew how to pack and move, the third had no idea what he was doing. A few quick examples: taped my leather chairs together with no protective wrapping (ruined them); put red wax candles unwrapped on top of white pants, ruining them; threw oil paintings into a box without putting any wrapping around them. I highlighted all of this to my point person at DUMBO, who did nothing. -- Theft: When they moved me into my temporary place, two of the men (including the one I had trouble with) went to the back half of the apartment (my roommate's space) to put down one item. My roommate's credit card was stolen from his desk, and within 5 minutes of the move, hundreds of dollars started being charged ONE BLOCK from our apartment. Over 2 days, they racked up thousands of dollars of random restaurant charges. I do not make theft accusations lightly, especially having worked in law enforcement. There is 0% chance it was anyone else. I filed a police report, but the DUMBO "customer service" and sales reps repeatedly chastised me and made it clear that they were not going to do anything to help me with this situation. 2) No concern for/disrespect of my sense of safety: -- I had no choice but to use the company two months after the theft, for my permanent move, as they had most of my things in storage. I specifically said that I did not want the same team, against whom I had filed a police report. I have all of this in writing. They stopped responding to me or any of my requests. -- They sent the same team to my home. I am a single female, alone in my apartment, and 2 men against whom I had filed a police report came to my door. I didn't want my valuable possessions to be at risk, so I had no choice but to let them in. One walked up to me and said, "I remember you, do you remember me?" (Let that sink in for a minute). -- I have never felt threatened in my own home before. This was shocking. I emailed the company about it; they never responded. I was trembling, I was so uncomfortable. -- I could almost accept the thought that maybe this was just an isolated incident. However, when I had used the same company 3 years earlier, they also used intimidation to squeeze more money out of me. The head mover sat me down on my couch and demanded I agree to a certain amount of tip. I kept trying to tell him that I would tip him once my things are delivered and unpacked, but he would not stand up (he was physically between me and the door) and told me he would not continue the move until I agreed to a specified amount. Again: I am a single woman, alone in my home with this man blocking my door. -- When I accidentally called the same company 3 years later (listed under Big Apple, instead of DUMBO), I told them I would never use them again and explained exactly what had happened. Somehow, their sales guy (Ron) convinced me that it was a terrible mistake and that he would ensure I'd have the best possible team, as a repeat customer. What a joke. 4) Deceptive pricing: -- All I can say is, stay on top of every single quote. Despite our agreed-upon amounts, the sales guy would randomly send me bills that were nowhere near the price we had agreed to. I'd have to go back and forth several times before he'd finally fix the b.s., arbitrary prices he was sending me. And it goes far beyond saying "the week you chose is more expensive than the price we originally quoted you". It would be random b.s. that when I called them out on, they had no choice to correct. So just beware of their shifting prices. So if you made it this far in my post, all I can say is: You have been warned. They know that I have zero recourse for how they treated me, other than to write reviews in every possible forum I can think of. Considering all the positive reviews they receive, I have to wonder if they particularly mistreat single women, who they think are vulnerable and more easily intimidated. I have used dozens of other moving companies and have NEVER had experiences like this. I know that my one review won't make a dent. But I will at least know I spoke my peace. read more

Would I use DUMBO MOVING again or recommend them and was everyone professional and polite with honest pricing: ALL YES I called the number, and it said to text them. Lior replied. He asked questions about the move and also for pictures of major furniture. Afterwards, he told me I had a choice, my date or their date. 1st impression very good. Lior mentioned insurance and when followed up with him, less than 30 minutes later, Matthew was on the phone talking to us about the options. 2nd impression is also very good. A date and time window were given to me. Antonio called and texted keeping me posted with notifications of their arrival. I met Antonio, Luis, and Sergio my moving crew. I asked questions and what if anything they needed from me. "Please sit down and let us take care of everything, you are the customer and therefore you don't have to worry about anything, we will take care of everything." I couldn't. I watched and asked questions. All 3 were willing to answer my questions and were not annoyed in any way. VERY PROFESSIONAL!!! I saw them not use a sharp object when ripping the tape. I asked and they showed me how it was done. They showed me the "reverse wrapping" on delicate items where the first wrap is backwards, so no stickiness on the furniture and then twist it to lock it in place. Watching them load the truck was like TETRIS. Boards placed to reenforce the placement. I said certain piece of furniture did not need to be wrapped; I was told ... "we protect your furniture and objects and it would also be unprofessional of us not to do so." Asking why they wrap plastic on the bottom and legs was explained to me. Pictures delicately protected and placed in boxes. Furniture taken apart and each part PROFESSIONALLY wrapped like a delicate egg. The coordination of Antonio, Luis, and Sergio was great!!! Coordinated and knowing each other's thoughts they worked smoothly and with ease. When everything was placed on the truck, we discussed the route and timing. Both of us were leaving to the 1st drop off location. We had multiple stops with a storm coming. The 1st stop they unpacked everything just as delicately as they packed it up. Perfect. Oh... Forgot to mention that they looked at the items before packing and would point out the flaws or parts broken before packing the furniture, lamps, and other big objects up just to let me know. Some I did not know about. (Again, this is above and beyond because it shows you the ATTENTION TO DETAIL that the three of them do!!!) With big furniture they got in into small places. With a heavy object there were no complaints. At our place we had a time limit and we told Antonio / Luis / Sergio about it. They said no problem we can do it and sure enough they got everything in, unloaded, and put back together within the time frame. Everything was unpacked with purpose and there was no rushing on their part. They cleaned up after themselves and made sure to ask if we needed anything else. Again PROFESSIONAL. I was the one who was there from start to finish. When they got to our place, my wife saw and commented to me that they were good and also was very happy with the service they provided. She said that I was NOT exaggerating when I talked to her about ANTONIO, LUIS and SERGIO. I have stated that we would use them again and have already recommended DUMBO to others. I have stated that you would be happy with LIOR and while I am sure every crew is good, I told them to ask for this crew by name, ANTONIO, LUIS, and SERGIO. They were polite, professional, explained everything, reassuring, efficient, and most importantly attentive to details. My final call to Lior was to comment how great the company was as well as my crew. I also asked do you only do the I-95 corridor, and he said no they go everywhere as I told the relatives in the mid-west that they could use them as well. Thank you, DUMBO movers, and also to Lior, Matthew, Antonio, Luis, and Sergio read more

I recently used Dumbo moving for a long distance move from Brooklyn, NY to Charleston, SC. I HIGHLY recommend Dumbo Moving for any of your long distance moves out of New York for the following reasons: 1. PRICE - I'm sure you're currently calling 5-10 different moving companies going through the painstaking process of reading through all your inventory, room-by-room. Let me save you 3 hours of your time, all moving companies use the same basic flat-rate formula to calculate their quote. They calculate your cubic-feet of inventory (done via their computers based on the inventory you have to tell them) for me this came between 550-650 cubic-feet depending on how thorough I was on the phone. Then the company uses a simple $/cubic-foot rate to come up with the bulk of the quote. Dumbo moving company was the ONLY company with a $/cubic-foot rate lower than $3.50, trust me I called them ALL! Most companies were quoting me $2,800-$4,000, Dumbo was able to complete my entire trip for under $2,000. There are of course other administrative fees on top of just the $/cubic-feet calculation, but that is definitely the bulk of the cost so save yourself some time and just ask the other sales reps what their $/cubic-foot...I'm positive it won't be lower than Dumbo. 2. Customer Service - I worked with representative Matt for my entire move. Every time I called their office I would be able to ask for Matt and he was always available to answer any question I had. He was thorough, responsive, and always happy to walk me through any question I had about the quote, timing, the drivers, the trucks, etc. You will not meet a nice team both office reps and movers. 3. Movers - For my long distance move I used a shared van to keep my costs to a a minimum which meant that I had a local team of New York movers pick up my shipment who then transferred my shipment onto a long distance truck (which contains not only my shipment, but 5-10 other shipments), which is then driven by the long distance movers to my new apartment in Charleston, SC as one of their 5-10 stops. Both teams of movers were 100% professional, efficient, respectful of my time and always went the extra step to protect my furniture using pads, extra boxes, and the proper equipment to load/unload. A special shout-out to Stefan who was the long distance driver and mover who unloaded all of my furniture with the help of one other mover up to my new 2nd floor apartment. Stefan was absolutely wonderful to work with. He gave me advanced notice of his arrival, showed up when he said he would, and moved in my entire shipment in only 2 hours. He was a pleasure to work with and I was very pleased with his friendliness and work ethic. 4. Timing - Both teams arrived exactly during the window of time we agreed to and worked quickly and efficiently to load/unload my shipment as quickly and safely as possible. And to rebuttal any poor review that complains about being charged more than their quote after the pick-up team arrives that is the customers fault. You need to provide a VERY detailed list of your inventory to the sales rep in order to receive an ACCURATE quote. 9 times out of 10 the customer forgot or underestimated how much junk they actually own. So be VERY conservative when you list your inventory. If you aren't thorough, expect the final bill to be higher than your quote, their business model is to charge you based on the amount of space your stuff occupies on their truck. 5 Stars to Dumbo moving, they were flawless in all aspects of the move. read more

Beyond Grateful! I was in dire straights, having to move out rather quickly, and after speaking with a few other moving companies, I decided to go with Dumbo Moving. Not just because of the great reviews, but after immediately reaching someone and getting a very good quote and very polite customer service, I knew they will be my movers. I ended up having to postpone the move, because of unforseen circumstances. Dumbo moving is not only very understanding, but worked with me and reserved my future moving date. I ended up moving about 3 weeks later and here's the best part. The three guys that helped me move are very personable movers and arrived right on time (technically a few minutes early even, being considered of the horrible weather which was predicted on the moving day. I'm talking about an absolute washout eventually lol). I gave them a quick tour of what's moving to the new apartment just once and they remembered all of the items and wrapped up all of my furniture and belongings so lovingly. All my furniture was wrapped up carefully in thick, protective blankets, secured with sturdy tape. Nothing, I mean, not a single item was damaged or got wet. They basically silently removed all the furniture and belongings and silently brought all my things up a very tricky and winding staircase to my new apartment. There wasn't a single damage to any of my items or the old or new apartment. All three movers that helped me are so pleasant, understanding, kind, considerate and careful throughout the entire process. And to top it all of, all was done in a minimal amount of time, far sooner than I expected. What really amazes me is that even though everything was completed so quickly, they were so very thoughtful and careful how they secured my belongings in protective packaging and also so very quick and quiet in getting everything out of the old place and into my new apartment. My new landlord made a point about this being a quiet house, and I didn't even have to tell them. Like literally, when I would walk around my apartment months ago or attempted to move things around the apartment in the past by myself, I would knock into things and cause noise or the occasional dent in things. Not with Dumbo movers. It was smooth sailing. I am so very grateful and happy. And they finished before the heavy rain hit. Absolutely wonderful! And also, this was an unexpected move to begin with, so I wasn't happy about having to move in the first place. Dumbo movers made the process so effortless and painless, I didn't shed a single tear. Communication was great and they placed all items exactly where I wished for them to be. I am actually so excited now to fully move into my new apartment. All thanks to Dumbo moving. I am highly recommending Dumbo moving to anyone who is looking to move. They are fast, careful and very accommodating. No hidden costs either. Their quote is their quote. They are very flexible in terms of adjusting the itinerary and moving date. I actually missed these guys when their truck drove away. Lol. Yeah... What a wonderful experience. This is my first big move on my own as a single female and I am truly so grateful from the bottom of my heart at how respectful all three men are and they treated my belongings, dare I say, better than I sometimes do. All I can say is, go with Dumbo moving. You will be very thankful. I know I am! What a wonderful company and wonderful men. Thank you so very deeply, Dumbo moving team read more

Reading the reviews here, I see that Dumbo gets mixed reviews, so aside from issuing them five stars for a flawless move, I'll take a moment and share why we gave them this highest rating. Before setting out and calling Dumbo (and others), my partner and I decided that while we would have professional movers assist us with the physical move, we would undertake all the packing ourselves. Meaning we got our own boxes, bubble wrap, paper wrap, packaging tape, etc... this was a critical step that surely helped us have a very smooth experience with no surprises. About a week before our move and only about halfway packing our boxes, we reached out to Dumbo and discussed our needs with a sales rep by the name of Luka. Luka was friendly, informative, and helped us gauge an accurate estimate as to the size of our move. In our phone call we went room to room, furniture to furniture, and finally estimated the total amount of boxes that would be moved from our apartment downtown to our new one uptown. Also, we had a piano to move, and unlike some other companies, Dumbo had a dedicated piano team (big plus!). Finally, we were also very accurate about our starting point (5th floor-walk up downtown) and ending point (elevator building uptown). This thorough conversation gave us an initial quote that beat out the others whom we spoke with (granted not all were available, and some didn't have dedicated piano movers, so that disqualified some companies). As the moving day approached, we spoke with Luka on multiple occasions to ask some questions, to update the amount of boxes we had ready, to decrease some furniture (which we gave away), and to add an additional stop for one item that would go to our storage unit in the Bronx. In all the conversations, including our final one, Luka was patient and friendly, and provided us promptly updated quotes based on our changing situation. Luka also promised us the use of wardrobe boxes, free of charge. This back-and-forth process was great, because we knew exactly what to expect and there would be no surprises nor any hidden costs (and the Dumbo team also wouldn't be met with any unpleasant surprises, either). Once again, we had everything packed and ready to go, so there was no room for confusion in this respect. On the moving day itself, the team showed up on time. They were excellent. They first tackled the piano, then they carried the rest of our furniture and boxes with care down our 5-story walk-up and into the truck. As promised, the furniture was wrapped securely with moving blankets, and all of our packed and sealed boxes were reinforced with even more tape, which the team brought with them. Loading the truck took them about 2 1/2 hours, which was lightning fast. Mind you it was nearly 100° that day, and the team was dedicated to get the job done. Once loaded, we followed their truck up to our new apartment uptown. Here, the team had a little bit of an easier time because there was a service elevator at our disposal. In under an hour, everything was upstairs and in the apartment, with each item carefully placed exactly where we wanted it. Finally, we then followed the team up to the Bronx where they moved one piece of furniture into our storage unit. We were happy to tip them generously, because they really deserved it on such a hot (and heavy) day! Thanks, Dumbo!! read more

Buckle up, this is a comprehensive review for you because I am one of those people who religiously reads reviews and the good and the bad ones weigh heavily on my decision to spend my money anywhere. We moved from Brooklyn to Upper Manhattan from a walk up to a higher walkup, and with more stuff than we actually realized we had. I called multiple places to compare quotes. This is where Dumbo first stood out. Our sales rep was Hank and he was incredibly kind, friendly, knowledgeable about what we would need, and most importantly to me, quick and efficient. I personally HATE when I'm trying to get a quote from somewhere quickly and they spend 5 minutes asking me how my day is going. Hank was nice and to the point, 5 stars immediately. Next, Dumbo allowed us a fully refundable deposit of only $50 to hold the date of our move while I got other quotes. As we got other quotes, we realized this move was going to come down to who was able to offer us the best price for the amount of stuff we had, Hank was incredibly communicative and worked with us on price to get it down to where we felt it couldn't be beaten. Also a big plus for me, the process to pay was incredibly easy but also secure and required credit card authorizations. Something I appreciate to ensure our credit card numbers are not being stolen. The process to add details or items to our move was incredibly easy, and again, all had everything to do with Hank. Now about the actual move, we ended up getting assigned Truck 106 with Davit, Shalva, and Makar and I need to emphasize, this move would not have been as good without these three guys. Our time window was 7AM - 9AM arrival. The guys and truck were downstairs at 7:00AM on the dot. I kid you not, they got everything out of our apartment in under 2.5 hours just the three of them, with nearly 4 flights of stairs. All of our furniture was packed safely and protected. Any time I had a concern, Davit addressed it and kept me updated on how many boxes they were packing, how it was being packed, and progress. Davit knew exactly what we were moving, double checked the inventory and there were zero surprises. The only hiccup that happened was that for some reason Davit's brief for our apartment had the incorrect number of stairs but Hank cleared that up quickly over the phone. When we finally got to the new apartment, the guys didn't even take a break. They immediately began loading into the building. We had a few large pieces that I knew were a pain in the butt to move, and the guys never complained or got mad at the difficulties in getting it up the stairs. What impressed me the most, is that they rarely stopped to take a break. And when they did, it was for less than 10 minutes it seemed, even after all the hard work they were doing! They put all our furniture back together perfectly, moved it to where we wanted in the apartment, cleaned up after themselves once done unwrapping all our furniture and fragile items, and even took some of our extra boxes that we didn't want. When I say Dumbo Move made our move the easiest move I've ever had to do (and I've moved multiple times) I mean it. I won't be using anyone else for the future. Thank you Hank, Davit, Makar, and Shalva! Ask for Hank and this team! You won't be disappointed. read more

With summer time approaching I am sure many people out there are starting to look for moving companies. There are endless options, do yourself a favor and DONT USE DUMBO for any reason. PLEASE do not put yourself in the cross hairs of Dumbo. READ THE OTHER REVIEWS. These people have no values, greed is all they know. This company has no shame. The crew that packed our goods was a very nice group, however they refused to wear masks due the heavy exertion they faced with moving. They said they were not mandated by their employer to wear them, a prime example of Dumbo's practices as a business. Once they finished packing it would be almost 5 months until I saw my goods again as Dumbo was paid to store them on a pallet in a climate controlled unit. When they were delivered them they were caked in mold, almost all of my furniture was DESTROYED, almost $20,000 in damage. The crew told me when they showed up to get the goods at the "climate controlled warehouse" they were just sitting on the floor. Clearly they ran out of storage space and tossed my goods wherever they had room. I am an understanding person, I realize the flood of business that resulted in the exodus from the city. Luckily, everything that was destroyed was replaceable. I was reassured by the claims manager, Anthony Callazo, that Dumbo "always does the right thing" in these unique situations. Unfortunately for me I believed him. I was unable to move into my home for several weeks since we had no furniture, Since mold was involved I was instructed by Anthony to dry clean all of my cloths and that I would be reimbursed for this expense, almost $2k. Didnt happen. On moving day the crew crashed the truck into my walkway, I was told to get it fixed and that I would be immediately reimbursed, another $500 out of pocket, Guess what didnt happen? The next 3.5 months were utter hell with being bounced from Anthony to their insurance broker to their insurance agency and back to good old Anthony. We had an accepted settlement, which was broken within the hour despite having written confirmation. Then I was offer a few hundred dollars on a $20k claim. I was told they paid the wrong claim, then I was told they didnt have any money to pay my claim (which was the most comical response of all time), then I was told the insurance company would pay me. Round and round we went. They REFUSED to take responsibility and pay my claim. Mistakes happen, but Dumbo will not own up to them. They do not care about their customers, they know they can treat people this way because consumers have limited ways to fight back. They say this was a "one time thing" and move on. It is shocking to me that people like this exist in the world. NOTE, if you end up filing an insurance claim I would do the exact opposite of anything they ask you to do. The broker consistently pretended to be empathize with me and constantly bashed their own client as a way to gain my trust. Their insurance broker then intentionally mislead me a number of times, including advising me to not reply to offers to settle being made by Dumbo and that all offers needed to be made by the insurance company. The broker is shady and morally corrupt. read more

I recently relocated from NY to South Florida and finding a reliable mover was one the most stressful parts. My research led me to Dumbo Moving. They gave me a straight forward quote, and what I really appreciated they were not pushy unlike other places I contacted. I'm so glad I went with them. To secure my move I paid a 10% deposit and then few days prior move I had further communication. One thing that other companies were trying to sell me is shuttle service, which covers moving your stuff from 18wheeler to a smaller truck in case the place you move to doesn't allow such big haulers. Well, I had communication from Dumbo, I checked with local township and found that 18 wheelers are allowed, so no such fee is necessary. From my friends I heard that they were either surprised by their new location regulations or slapped with extra charge without explanation. I'm glad that Dumbo was proactive about it. I made my final payment few days before move and the. Realized I need to add few items. I called and added those for reasonable fee. Overall I think I paid a fair price. So then a move day came. I was scheduled from 1-4pm in the afternoon. Shortly after 9am I heard my buzzer, which surprise, surprise were the movers. I was a bit panicked because I still planned on packing few boxes in the morning. The guys assured me they will help me if necessary. So I put all anxieties aside and just went to oversee their work. I had a truck #12 assisting me with pickup in NY. The crew of 3 guys worked quickly and paid attention to my frágil stuff. I moved out of 3rd floor walk-up, and they maneuvered my precios items with precision. These guys were courteous and also respected all CDC safety guidances, in case it's important for you. I really can't recommend these crew more! They are amazing. And now the part of receiving my stuff. I actually traveled to FL a week after the move. So I communicated that my first available day for pick up would be then. That day I was notified via email that my stuff had departed NY warehouse and I was given a link to monitor the trucks progress, which gave me somewhat of heads up. Then 2 days later I got a call from a truck driver that he will arrive with a time frame. This time the truck showed up within the time frame. This time it was a driver and a helper who delivered my stuff. They gave me a list with all my belongings and all I had to do was to check that all the items were inside my new place. It took them under two hours. The drive, Christian, was very courteous and when my neighbor asked to move the truck so he could exit from parking spot, he obliged without hesitation so now pressure with new neighbors! So it took 3 days for my stuff to arrive from a date of departure. It's really not bad! Now the hard part is the unpacking and thinking where to put what. I took time to write this review because I wish I knew more about the process before I went on the search. But one thing I can assure you, that I'll be using Dumbo Moving again, this time to move my mother-in-law. She's very particular about her things and I know these guys can make her feel secure and in control. read more

This is a report on a successful crosstown Manhattan move from one apartment building to another. I planned the move with Ben, a Dumbo Moving rep, who made all of the arrangements. While the estimated cost was competitive with other estimates, Dumbo's slightly lower to be honest, the competence of Ben and the ease of working with him were the primary reasons we used Dumbo. We read online opinion sites, exclusive of Dumbo's, but you never know for sure about the accuracy of those comments. My dealings with Ben, for the moment the "face" of the moving company, who was always available and patient answering my questions and providing advice in numerous phone calls, were most important in my decision. I perceived a sincere willingness on Ben's part to make his estimate an accurate reflection of the move and the cost--and it was to the penny! My husband and I were highly satisfied with the high caliber of the Dumbo moving crew (Vesko and his assistant Nemy). The 2 men arrived on time (actually a few minutes early) ready to go to work--a friendly greeting from each, signing of some paperwork, and then non-stop working for 6 hours. They were both very knowledgeable about the techniques of disassembling furniture and skillfully wrapping them (in clean-looking blankets). Watch Vesko prepare your furniture as he quickly "dances" around your wrapped furniture securing it carefully with mover's tape! My husband asked to have cardboard wrapped around a desk top before it was blanketed, but while they said it was not necessary, they did it anyway with a smile. We had no damage to any of our furniture, upholstered seating, or any other items. I watched the whole time, noticing how carefully and organized they moved our belongings all the way into the truck (a winding route out of a Manhattan high rise to the street--but the mover's seemed accustomed to big city buildings) and never complained about the 94 humid degrees that day. The Dumbo-marked truck was large and in good condition--no second rate "fly-by-night movers" here. Vesko and Nemy were gentlemen--efficient and friendly--which made for an anticipated tense situation instead to be a relaxed one. These two individuals were professional and very much tried to please. (The writer also believes that the success of our move was greatly affected by the quality of the movers we received and wants to respectfully remind others that they may have varying results with different crews.) And there were no "nickel and dime" attempts to raise the estimated amount over small items at the end as I have read about elsewhere. (The best estimate is not always what actually happens on moving day.) As an expression of our gratitude, we gave them each a substantial tip, but at first when they were finished it may have looked to them like we were not, and they began to leave with a friendly good-bye--no attitude, no shake-down, and no ultimatums. Thank you, Vesko and Nemy! I have received no compensation or promise of any other benefit now or in the future. I submit this review solely to share my experiences to assist other individuals. read more

I had such a great experience with Dumbo moving! I feel compelled to share, and hopefully help people select (in my opinion) the best movers. For one, Dumbo has great customer service. They are attentive and they make it easy. I had attempted to price quote other companies but quickly noticed their processes were so complicated, and impersonal. Whereas other companies are using call centers, and complicated online forms -Dumbo is straight forward and you are connected with one service person who helps you along with the entire process. This person was attentive, with quick responses, and clearly knows the city. This brings me to local business, Dumbo is a local to New York City. The people there know how to navigate the intricacies of the city. From building specifications and requirements to following local laws. They helped me do a proper move, from providing insurance to navigating the truck in streets with an abundance of caution. The movers who carried my things were great, considerate people. They showed up on time (toward the earlier end of the time window, which I requested). They were fast and efficient with their work, they took time with my belongings. Now, a couple of days later I have opened all of my boxes and there is not one damaged item. I have a lot of glass, and three mirrors measuring seven feet tall [edit: which they carried up 5 flights of stairs]. Thank you for that guys if you're reading this!!! The price was right too. My move was not cheap per se, but it was very reasonable. It also afforded me some extra money left over, to tip the movers nicely. I have seen a lot of movers on instagram lately, and I am glad I was not influenced to go that route. Other companies have gimmicks like painting trucks pink seemingly to try and make it easy for folks like myself to pick a mover (ugh), but their websites are a hassle, their customer service is no good. If you're moving, you should totally go with Dumbo. Local, professional, and caring! I noticed one reviewer included photos of their boxes getting crushed under the weight of other boxes. I am guessing those boxes were half packed, with space between items and the interior top of the box. I've learned myself that this is a no-no. Boxes have to be full, or packed with space holders. The only takeaway I can give is that perhaps Dumbo or any mover can suggest that boxes be fully packed for stacking. I do expect movers to know how to move things without destroying them (again, not even one of my items were damaged in my move), but I personally don't think it makes sense for any mover to play tetris or jenga with a person's boxes all day because one didn't know how to pack them safely. I've seen the way some people prepare for moves - they basically don't prepare at all. Having tiny, or many different shaped boxes can cause issues, not packing them full enough, or not packing items at all and expect movers to spend hours fitting oddly shaped things together "just so". To those folks I say, get some common sense! read more

First of all let me say, as customer of these moving companies we have rights according to NY state law and the FMCSA (more info at end of this write up), both which I recommend you use including BBB when it's comes to this type of shoddy business practice. The best option is to use reputable movers! These guys were completely unprofessional from the moment they stepped into my apartment! I truly regret not spending an extra $100-$200 for a more well known and reputable movers. Before I go into details let me exclude the guys that dropped off my belongings at my new apartment, they were ok and pleasant to deal with, I think they were contractors... So let's begin with the headache that's called Dumbo Moving! I requested a guy come in and give me a quote on shipping. So he walks through my apartment, takes pictures and gives me a quote which I accept. The next week Dumbo movers arrive and the first thing they say is 'more furniture has been added to the apartment then what was in the original quote.' But what I knew was that I had actually sold or threw away about 20% of my belongings since they had given me a quote. So now at this point I knew they were hustling to make me pay more. They have their manager call me 10min later and he aggressively accuses me of adding more items, so I tell him and his movers to cancel the job and get out. Oddly enough they change their mind and say it's fine? At this point, I'd probably be best to go with another mover but it's my last day in the apartment so I have no choice but to continue using them.... When they start moving a 4 month old, brand new, expensive king mattress they decide either to retaliate or they simply are not experienced at moving when they fold the mattress in half so that one end touches the other end!!! Immediately the mattress loses its structural integrity and has a dip where it was folded. I did attempt to tell the manager in email on 2 separate occasions, both times he would not respond. Finally on the 3rd email he responded by saying I needed to resubmit a write-up of the incident. Which I did again, then he forwarded to his Claims Manager, A.C., who was even worse to deal with. He does not know or want to know the facts! I sent him pictures which he responded he could not see damage?? I think he should get his eyes checked! Nevertheless, as a customer we have rights according to NY state law and the FMCSA, both which I recommend you use including BBB when it's comes to this type of shoddy business practice. All of which I will be doing. Even when I mentioned this to the claims manager he didn't care and said go ahead, no issue for him! Hopefully after enough complaints we can mitigate the shoddy work of these type of guys! I had a great experience with Dumbo Moving in June, 2025 in NYC. Dumbo sent Truck 101 - the Levan Team. These guys were incredible - extremely hard working, strong, fast, honest, fun and sweet to the kids. The Levan team moved a large 4-bedroom apartment from Manhattan to a house in Riverdale, and there was just so much to take. They packed on May 26th and moved us on June 1st. There was additional packing done on the second day as well. I have kids, and we had tons of furniture, toys, and books including 2 large Ligne Roset designer sofas, a loft bed, a full size EuroCave wine fridge, 5 mid century bookshelves, and alot of other high end mid century furniture. The Levan Team also took my large floor standing speakers, while I took the electronics separately. Everything arrived at the house in perfect shape - the sofas were saran wrapped multiple times. Each wine bottle was individually taken out of the fridge and wrapped individually. All our clothes and clothes were put in wardrobe boxes. And so many books - for the adults and the kids. When they arrived at the destination, the re-bult the loft bed, which was a huge task. Dumbo charged +$100 for disassembling, moving, and reassembling the loft bed - this was an extremely fair price. I've used Dumbo 4 times in the past, this was my 5th move with them. I've not experienced this before, but the Levan team even unpacked all the wardrobe boxes, and hung everything up in the closets, and took the boxes back. This must have saved me 10's of hours of unpacking. Dumbo made the estimate for my move based on my last move with them, but we had not accounted for the sofas which I bought later on. We actually needed to do a second run on moving day, after unloading everything from the truck, to go back and get the sofas, as well as some other things that we didn't want to overstuff in the truck. We ended up on agreeing on $600 extra for the second run in the truck, which was also very fair. The Levan team arrived at 8am on moving day, and worked until 9:30pm. It was very intense. In all, I tipped them about 20% of the cost of the move, and they deserved every penny. They even helped me take away some of the old furniture we didn't want to move, and got put by the waste disposal of our old building including large pieces of furniture they had to move out of the apartment (which we were not actually moving, but throwing away). I tipped them at the end of the night, after I confirmed everything arrived safely, nothing was broken, and they helped with the disposal of the old furniture from the apartment. This was beyond full service - they went above and beyond. Lastly, there was a valuable item I could not find for several weeks following the move. I was getting frustrated I could not find it, texted the Levan team, and they helped me locate the lost item. They had in fact moved the valuable item safely, and put it somewhere I didn't realize. Thank you Levan truck 101!!! read more

DO NOT EVER USE THIS COMPANY!!!*** I recently moved back to the northeast from Texas, and unfortunately I was met with the displeasure of having to deal with Kosta from Dumbo Moving & Storage, who delivered my belongings. I went through a moving broker who set up the logistics & contracted two different companies: one for pick up and one for delivery. The difference was night and day- the company who picked up our belongings in Texas was outstanding, had 3 men for the job and were very personable and professional. HOWEVER, as soon as Dumbo Moving and Storage became involved the entire experience took a drastic turn for the worse. Kosta arrived at my new apartment with my furniture with no help for the job- he was alone. There is no possible way one person could move in a sectional couch, a sofa, a queen size bed with adjustable frame (HEAVY), among other large/heavy items to our second floor apartment. Kosta was unpleasant as his initial statement to us was "we have to do this quick because I have other stops to make", while my fiancé and I were contacting dispatch to explain our concern that there wasn't enough manpower for the job, and we hired movers because I've had surgery on my shoulder and my fiancé has a bad back. Kosta then became impatient and told us if we didn't pay him he would take our things to storage, which we would be charged for (even though our contract had provided for 30 days of free storage if needed). He continued on to let us know that if we didn't help move our stuff in he would charge us an additional $300. Frustrated with the situation and in need of our belongings, my fiancé and I did a majority of the work. Kosta unloaded everything from the truck, carelessly stacking boxes on top of each other and upside down outside of our back entrance, resulting in many crushed boxes. From there, my fiancé and I carried them inside & up the stairs. Kosta broke a window moving in a sofa (which resulted in our heat literally going out the window until it was able to be fixed), which took down and broke the blinds that the landlord had recently installed before our move-in, & ripped our brand new couch in the process. We contacted dispatch again when the window broke and immediately began emailing pictures of the damages as they occurred in real time. Taking notice of our dissatisfaction, Kosta became abrasive, hostile, and rude. When it came to the sectional, Kosta only brought in half of it, leaving the other half on the front porch where it was subject to the weather (rain) for 3 days until I could get it inside MYSELF. Our queen mattress had a protective cover, which had been partially removed & our mattress is now stained. I could go on..... but I digress. I do not recommend ANYONE, EVER using this company for your move. Also Kosta had visible track marks on the inside of his arms and was emanating a stench as though he hadn't bathed in days. read more

This was, without question, the worst moving experience I've had in more than 20 years of living and moving throughout New York City. While the move itself was a disaster, what happened afterward was even worse. The company's complete lack of accountability, responsiveness, and customer care turned an already stressful experience into months of unnecessary frustration. To recap: * The movers arrived three hours late, throwing off the entire day's schedule. * Only two movers arrived, despite my booking and quote being for three movers. * The truck that was sent was far too small for the move, even though I had called in advance to confirm that a truck large enough to accommodate all of our belongings would be provided. * The movers damaged five pieces of furniture, including brand-new pieces and irreplaceable vintage items, as well as the walls of our townhouse. * Boxes and furniture were carelessly placed throughout the home, blocking access to bedrooms, bathrooms, and walkways with no consideration for how we would safely move around the house. * The movers left before the job was complete, telling us they were "too tired." They left furniture unassembled and positioned heavy pieces in places that made them nearly impossible to access. We had no choice but to hire and pay another company to complete the work. At the time, we were moving with a newborn, making an already stressful life event even more overwhelming. We trusted this company with our home and our belongings, and they failed us at every stage. Unfortunately, the experience didn't end when the movers left. The claims process was just as disappointing. Despite the extensive damage, the company was unresponsive, dismissive, and showed little interest in resolving the situation. Communication was slow, customer service was terrible, and there was virtually no sense of urgency or empathy. Ultimately, we were told that because of the level of insurance we had purchased, the damages were not covered and that we would simply have to absorb the loss ourselves. That response demonstrated a complete lack of accountability and customer care. Rather than standing behind their service or working toward a reasonable resolution, they hid behind the fine print and left us paying for damage their movers caused. I would strongly caution anyone considering this company. Based on my experience, they failed in planning, execution, customer service, and claims resolution. If something goes wrong--and in our case, many things did--you should not expect them to make it right. read more

Was charged $3500 for a move I was quoted $1600 for. The move out crew came with no masks and the Georgian guy with long hair EXTORTED us for almost $1000. After ALL of our belongings were in the truck, and we needed a week of storage (so our entire life was in these peoples hands - literally); a mover comes up to me with a calculator on his iPhone and starts punching in numbers telling me the $1800 I just paid is because he lied to the company about the things we had. He told me that the amount of things we have it would be at least another $1000 to the company, bringing my daily move out total to $2800! He said since a 20% tip is customary that would be $560. Instead of me paying an additional $1560 out of pocket, just give him and the crew a $900 tip (in lieu of the $300 tip I had prepared) and I would not be charged + they would make sure our things would be safe in storage. WOW. The last thing I needed on move out day with my wife, two small children, three dogs, and two cats. I decided not to tell my wife as this was a lot of money, and I didn't want her to worry about our things potentially being unsafe in storage. At the end, the driver of the van gave us a detailed list of all our things - there was nothing they "lied" about to the company - every last item was accounted for and we were essentially extorted/robbed of $600 cash. This is theft by deception, AKA larceny. When I called the company asking the guys name, Jay from the office told me he doesn't know anyone's name (which is bullshit). Seeing as how we had too many stressful things coming up in the immediate future after our move and two closings; we decided to hold off on speaking to detectives about the theft + taking these people to small claims court. Now that we're settled, that's exactly what we will be doing. Jay from the office had the nerve to call me and tell me I tried to make a deal with the guy who extorted me! Hey Jay! Can't wait until all of your shit is in a van at the mercy of three Eastern European thugs telling you that they'll keep your things safe if you pay the right amount. Jay had the balls to tell me that I asked them to throw out a piece of furniture (which we decided last minute not to take), and that was not in the contract. When I say "throw out" - they moved it from my living room to the end of my short driveway. I guess that cost us $600 and our peace of mind. CROOKS - LOWLIFES - STAY AWAY PLEASE!!! Can't wait to recoup my money in small claims court! read more

I never used movers and they were highly reccommended by my close friend as being proactive and have closet extra boxes in the truck, being on time, and being reliable. I got a quote rather next day after requesting it from Misha. He is excellent at keeping the communication open. Misha called me to confirme all my needs, sent an updated quote once i revisited what i will move, and advised me to call or email 1-2 days before the move if anything changes from the items i needed to be moved. The movers called me themselves 30 minutes prior to arrival. To my suprise they rescheduled me earlier in the day 3 hours. I can't say that i got upset with this as it speed up my day, but i could see people that are very particular abour keeping a time as being inconvenienced. I would strongly recommend that you keep the day open as someone could cancel before your turn and things can change. This advise is valid for all vendors (BestBuy Delivery arrived 1 hour earlier than the earliest period they confirmed, FiOs arrived 1 1/2 hours earlier than the earliest time they estimated). So it seems that everyone is trying their best to accommodate the times they coordinate but since it is NYC things change faster than we can think. The movers were James and Xavier. They could not be more accommodating. They really did their best and dismantled the bed, the dining table, and wrapped everything in blankets, did not damage one little thing at all. They were not complaning and even brought their own water. The least you can do for movers that move countless loads of piled up thinks we accrue in life is to offer them water or a short meal/snack break. They were wonderful, cheerful, and made it a breeze. The tip is at your discretion and i recommend that you don't get cheap when it comes to your belongings. Also, you should mention in the beginning that you will take care of people. In general, it motivates them to work with you and for you. This is a hard hard job. I would have not been able to make this happen in such a short period of time. I highly recommend them and you should ask for Misha to coordinate, and for Xavier and James to help. They make a good team and seemed to read each other's mind. I am sincerely sorry for the unpleasant experiences other people seemed to have. I hope everyone is as lucky as i am moving forward. cheers! Good luck to you and to Dumbo Movers. read more

DUMBO moving is the best! My daughter and I had a complicated move from our shared Brooklyn apt--she to VA, me to FL. I got 4 estimates from different companies, pricing varied whether by weight or volume, and even one large company just said they couldn't do this move! Bauer at Dumbo seemed GLAD to offer their company's services and sent a very polite, professional & knowledgeable young man, Simi, to our apt to give us the most accurate quote (again, 2 of the other companies refused to do that when I requested). Between that day and the next 3 wks as we packed, it looked like I had more boxes packed than estimated. Bauer reassured me that on moving day, the crew chief would count each item and anything we forgot could easily be added. My flat rate went up a bit, because I had many more boxes. My daughter's rate stayed and they even let a few extra boxes go on hers. Our move required 2 trucks, 2 crews one the same day. Not complicated, just needed a company with common sense and experience. My truck also had to pick up from my storage unit in LI before our apt. No problem! I received texts along the week before and that morning just to let me know the move was ready to happen. Both crews were very polite, focused and speedy. They disassembled, padded, wrapped everything, and crated large art and mirrors--all included in the price. Both deliveries were just as good--fast, friendly and nothing broken. It was rainy when they delivered mine in FL and the crew chief put down an old blanket just to keep my floors clean. They paid attention to the markings on the boxes, and I only had to tell them once which room was which and they put the boxes in the appropriate rooms. They reassembled everything perfectly and they were not the same crew that took stuff apart in BK. I tried a couple time to pick up small items and they 'shooed' me away, saying I was the customer and did not need to help, told me to relax and let them do the work. I cannot believe how well it all went from beginning to end, very punctual at each location. I read reviews prior to booking a company and saw the posts about the crew requesting 20% tips, so I was prepared to hear it and deal with it, as I usually tip for good service. NONE of the crews--in NY, VA or FL ever mentioned tipping. Lucky for me, Dumbo has an affiliate company in FL, so if I ever decide to move again, I will book with them! read more

I had Dumbo move me in 2013 and gave them five stars. I moved September 2015 and had a bad experience so I am updating my review I have two main complaints about Dumbo: 1. Their storage facility is not secure. A piece of original artwork was stored in a box with several other posters and paintings. This is standard for them. They place a lot of framed items in a box and then separate them with large cardboard sheets. I got everything that was in the box but one piece of original art. The only place this art could have disappeared was in storage. Someone "shopped" the box and took the piece they liked. I know that they do not keep control of inventory in storage because when they moved me into my home they tried to give me a chair that was not mine. They had taken it from another group of adjacent stored items. Sloppy! 2. They bury you in paperwork/emails to the point where it feels like harassment. If you get a bid but do not have an exact move date, you can expect an email every other day. When you get close to your move you will receive multiple copies of every email making it difficult to keep track of the forms you have filled out and those that are still due. The "paperwork" is left to you. If you send a verbal email to add/ask something they do not read it, they just send you another form to fill out. The forms themselves ask for certain numbers that on the source documents are labeled with a different name--for example Order Number is really Unpackt Number etc. so the forms are difficult to fill out accurately. But be very clear -- you will be the one that does all the paperwork. When they do lose something of yours they will make a conciliatory offer, in my case $60, which I did not accept. Accepting their offer means you will not write anything on social media. That seemed so cynical and desperate. On the plus side, because nothing is all bad... - The foreman on the move in phase of my job was a spectacular looking human being -- handsome, and crazy fit, head to toe. Movie star looks. - The workers are generally nice, hard working, and respectful. - They keep to their appointments. - My first move with them went without a hitch. NET: OK for a simple one day move. Their automated paperwork is terrible. Most important, I would not trust them to store anything. read more

I never leave reviews (although I spend a lot of time reading them before I choose companies) but DUMBO was so good that I had to. My roommate and I recently moved from one NYC apartment to another and this is the first moving company I've ever used. I usually use friends/family to move because of all the horror stories I've heard from others. After spending a good amount of time on Yelp we decided to go with DUMBO and they lived up to every excellent review left on this site. Setting up an appointment was easy and our quote was accurate. Just make sure to be as specific as possible, we ended up changing the number of boxes we had and I'm glad we did or else we would have paid more on moving day. Our movers were right on time the day of (with texts before hand to let us know where they were) and were in good spirits the entire day. We had a good amount of furniture and some loose items that couldn't be packed into boxes and they wrapped everything up without a single complaint. They broke down the furniture, put it back together at the new place and didn't break a single thing. While packing everything up took longer than I expected (I thought there would be more people but the team was 2 men), moving all our stuff into the new apt took about 2 hours flat. And it was great to be able to unpack the boxes as they brought them in - by the time Boris and his team left we were about 50% unpacked. These guys definitely went the extra mile. We have a pretty worn couch that started to fall apart as they were wrapping it up and Boris & his teammate pretty much fixed it up to brand new once they moved everything in. They exceeded our expectations - because the price is so fair, I wasn't too sure what kind of quality we were going to get. Needless to say, we tipped them very well and they deserved every dollar. The icing on the cake was that there was a small box left in the truck. I looked inside the truck to make sure everything was moved out and I didn't catch it either. Once we realized it was gone, we call the movers up and they made sure we got the box back as soon as possible, which was extremely appreciated. The guys who moved our things were hard-working, FAST, honest and fun; they made our moving day way less hectic and stressful than it could have been. I doubt I'll go to any other company if I move again. read more

This is the first time I've ever had to use a moving company and I was scared to death. There seemed to be only two kinds of reviews: 1) Best moving company ever or, 2) Worst moving experience ever No inbetween and many companies had both types of reviews so I didn't know who to go with. I ended up with Dumbo because their estimate was far and away the best (which also scared me a little...) I worked with Bauer to schedule the move and he gave me a great rate. When I had to change the date about a week later, he let me keep the same rate, even though the new date was right in the middle of prime moving time (last two days of the month - April). On the day of the move, the movers called to let me know they were going to be arriving in 15 minutes (right on time). They showed up on time as promised rather than just start hauling away boxes, they took the time to ask me to walk them through the apartment so everyone was on the same page regarding what was staying, what was going, and if anything needed special care. Rio was the point man (turns out it was his first day at the company) and he was very polite, clean and professional. One guy had to stay with the truck (there's no parking in my area) so it ended up being a two-man job. About halfway through the packing, Rio asked if I was satisfied with the pace of the move so far and if everything was meeting my expectations (very professional!). I even got a phone call from the company to make sure the movers had arrived on time and that everything was going well. The entire packing process took about an hour. Unpacking at the new place was even better than the packing from the old place. The new location had parking so the third member of the move team jumped in and the entire process took about 40 minutes. Again, they asked me to walk them through the new apartment and tell them where I wanted everything to go. They were very careful with all of the boxes and not a single item was damaged. We even had a fragile cactus packed up in a box and not a single stone was knocked out the container and the cactus was totally fine. Someone else on Yelp said how surprised they were to actually enjoy moving day - I believe it now. These guys were fantastic and I can't say enough good things about them. read more
