Every time I am in the neighborhood for a friend's gig, there is never enough time to stop into DuMont. However, one summer night in August, I made a mission, to somehow fit DuMont into the evening. I only had 30 minutes, I was seated outside right away. There was a really chill and friendly vibe here, and my only regret was that I wish I could have stayed longer. When my food came after 20 minutes (which is not long at all), I calmy mentioned to the server that I would be leaving right after the meal and asked for the check right away. I tried not to bring the super stressed out Manhattanite in a hurry vibe into the mix to this uber relaxed Williamsburg haunt. The server was very accommodating. I ordered a cheeseburger with onion rings and oh my was it good! I decided scarfing down this meal in 10 minutes would not do this burger justice, so I took another 10 minutes and was a little late to my next stop, which luckily was only two doors down. What I like about their burgers is that they are flavorful on their own. No bells and whistles needed...the toppings just enhanced the burger. Every bite was perfection. They have fried pickles. I love fried pickles! The burger was decent and medium rare the way I like it. I really like the dark bar sitting style with open space and outdoor tables. For those that go by the take-out reviews - they will always be bad. You can't have a good burger sit wrapped in aluminum foil and expect the bun to not be moist and soggy. What you need to do is come on a Tuesday night with a close friend, order 2 burgers, share some fried pickles, and drink some good beers. This place has a great demeanor and I'm happy just devouring burgers. As always, remember to go with good company. They make any meal amazing :). read more

I'd give this place 3.5 stars. The burger was good but nothing spectacular. The burger was cooked like I asked (medium), but it was not juicy. I thought it was over-priced based on other burgers I've had in the past. Everything else about the plate was great. Came with a generous serving of fries, which were very crispy and tasty. The service was very good, and the waiter accommodated us very well. The restaurant itself is dimly lit and has a nice atmosphere. The only gripe I had were the stools which were not very comfortable. After about 15 minutes of sitting I felt the need to move around in my seat. read more

I am on quite the burger kick lately - my need for meat just cannot be satisfied! When the L acted up last Saturday night and foiled our plans for going to a movie in the city, I suggested going here instead. I'd been to Dumont (on Union Ave.) a few times and wanted to check out this location, expecting a lot of the same. I was wrong. The space is tiny and it was packed. We were seated against the back wall pretty quickly, which was great, but then any time the door opened (which it did a lot - they were busy) gusts of cold wind blew directly at us. It was seriously miserable; there's nothing I hate worse than a poorly designed restaurant causing you to shiver through your perfectly good meal. The burger was cooked to perfection, and the fries were crispy, hot and delicious. It's the standard I've come to expect from Dumont (and now Dumont Burger) and it has yet to disappoint me. I was quite disappointed by our waitress, who all but abandoned us for our entire meal (neglecting refills of water or beer), only to give my boyfriend the evil eye when he asked if I wanted dessert as she handed us the check. I did want to try their chocolate brownie, but since she so, um, thoughtfully brought us our check without asking if we'd like dessert, I decided to save my calories and money for dessert elsewhere. Stuck in Williamsburgh with a friend during Tropical drizzle storm Irene, I found myself starving so she suggested that we try out Dumont Burger. So off we went... I didn't care that he messed up. He had so many orders to fill and it was just a chaotic time all around so we were cool about it. It wasn't until we got the bill that we realized he had given us a round of drinks free anyway. He was nice, well mannered, super responsive and just had great energy amongst the chaos of the day. I ordered their Dumont Burger and a beer. I kept it simple since it was my first time and the place is called Dumont Burger. I got a decently cooked burger with a bun that just didn't do it for me. Not after the potato buns from Shake Shack or The Counter in LA. Their buns are a bit tough and don't allow for you to taste how good the meat is. Maybe the quality of the beef they use isn't great or maybe the bun just doesn't work for me. Needless to say that I just did not like it. Atmosphere is ok. I mean, if you like the hipster seen then you will LOVE the place. I'm just really bored of these types of places and for $10 a burger I expect something that looks like someone cares. Hipster establishments, to me, are starting to feel like what they are. Places where not too much thought needs to go into things. Just my opinion and taste buds. Not too much to these burgers. Gone are the days a burger platter cost around ten bucks. You're in for a good 25 to 30 bux, if you have a beer with the platter. I had a burger and fries,t he basic deal. With cheese. Massive amounts of fries, large nicely juicy crumbly burger, and NOT cheap. Generally nice atmosphere, but the service was a little cloying. Every other minute one or another waitress would approach asking if we need help, need anything, know what we want, are we ready to order... Back off. Please. I reluctantly (because of their infamously "overpriced" menu) had dinner here recently. Let me start by saying I don't normally eat burgers; not an avid meat-eater but not disciplined enough to call myself a vegetarian. ***But then I had the veggie burger.*** Sweet bliss, damn that burga's good! There were some parts of this meal that were amazing, but one big part that was not...and for that it has to lose some stars. It all started out picture perfect with me and three buddies scoring a streetside table on a busy Saturday evening with practically no wait! We started with some boozy milkshakes, which were right on the money (note: if you don't like bourbon, steer clear of the maple bacon shake. it's practically a glass of it). Then we had our appetizers: onion rings and tempura fried pickles. If I could eat these tempura fried pickles every day, with no monetary or health side effects, I would. They were incredible. We all ordered our burgers medium rare, and after taking about 20 minutes for them to arrive, they were practically charred to a crisp. It was a busy night, so I understand some errors on the kitchen's part, and the starters were good enough to revisit this place and hopefully have a better burger, but as of now, this is where I stand. Its fallen off immensely over the last few years. What used to be a neighborhood gem is now just another restaurant you should walk by on your way somewhere else. I've been going for 10 years and tonight was just so mediocre, Im only giving them one more chance ever - maybe. Granted, Im just a guy who lives nearby and puts ketchup on everything, so maybe don't listen to me and try yourself. The quality of the ingredients just isnt the same. The cooks don't seem to care, and this is a reflection of ownership who just see this place as a cash cow. My burger was technically medium-ish, even though I ordered medium rare. What used to be black on the outside and pink inside freshly ground prime beef is now just a lump of grey, average beef. Looks like the patties were ground and formed 24+ hours ago. Brioche was slightly stale. The vegetables have been awful for years. Homemade pickles are solid. Fries are very good. But you had one job Dumont Burger. One job: make a really good burger. It isnt really good anymore. Burger Guru absolutely, consistently smashes this joint now. They are coasting on Yelp reviews from 2009. It either needs new management in 2016 or it needs to close and leave us with our fond memories. read more

Went to Williamsburg Brooklyn last week and decided to try the much touted Dumont burger. Easily located right on Bedford Avenue. We were surprised when we walked in how teeny, tiny it is. Nice and warm and cozy on a cold afternoon though. We sat at the bar. Waited on quickly, nice, pleasant waitress. I ordered the Dumont burger,medium. You could have fries, salad, or soup as a side. Decided to re-visit Dumont Burger to see if they improved at all. If fact, they've gotten worse. I asked for a medium rare burger and I what I got was a hockey puck with cheddar on it. A dry, medium-well done burger is not worth the $15.24. I'd expect this kind of quality from a diner, but not "dumont". Went to this joint after reading that it had Zagat's highest rating for burgers in NYC. The hamburger was terrible !!! The meat was overcooked, dry and round like a tennis ball. Very cute place to eat on a night with a date. My boyfriend took me to this place, he had been here with some friends on a previous night. The Dumont Burger is very tasty and the garlic Parmesan fries is AMAZING. I had a yummy sangria and for desert I had the brownie with vanilla ice cream. DuMont is a cozy place with a nice thick wooden bar; I usually sit at the bar. The service has always been friendly and timely. The bartender recognized me from before, and that's cool. It has a full bar, too. The food is very consistent. The burger is thick, perfectly seasoned, and always cooked to perfection. The flavor is not an "over flavored" type, but seasoned where you can taste the quality beef. The burger also is not teaming over with sauces and cooked flavored sweet onions, gorgonzola, and other strong flavors that mask the taste of the meat. I like all those things, nothing against them! I just sometimes want a burger to taste like a burger, and DuMont nails it. A great bun too. It's still a gourmet burger, though, for sure. TIP: go at off peak times due to the small space! Some friends of mine took me here since I never been. Walking in the ambiance is cool, space is a bit cramped but we sat at the bar and it was fine. The food was good. I had the Dumont burger with fries and a brownie boozy shake which was really good. I also really enjoyed the Du mac and cheese. The bartender was social and made us feel welcome. in terms of takeout burgers, DuMont Burger goes unparalleled in Williamsburg. Their bun is the right consistency, they cook to the correct level of doneness (aka a medium rare burger actually comes out medium rare), and their sides are excellent. There's one problem: their ordertakers are the absolute worst. The worst! Not only are they rude but they are unaccountable. The odds of getting all of what you ordered are about 50-50--particularly frustrating given they're far from the cheapest on the block. One time I got salad rather than fries; another time they omitted a $4 side. Both times I pointed out the error they responded as if I were speaking Swahili and they were, in fact, not native speakers. We found this place after a Groupon whiskey tasting deal. Having searched for a place like this for a bit through Williamsburg, we were hoping for a good burger and a beer, and weren't disappointed. The seating sort of resembles processing cows through the slaughterhouse, so there is that. There are also plenty of combinations of cheese, mushrooms, bacon, avocado etc. etc. to try. I tried the smaller version of the regular, and it was admittedly very good. I had somewhat high expectations for this place, and after trying this place last night I can say My expectations were met completely. Burger is $12.50 not including any extra toppings I got bacon and blue cheese so tack on another $3.50. a $16 dollar burger but in dim lighting, you'll pay anything for anything right? No this burger was on point. All the toppings were fresh, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, brioche bun, yum yum yum. Bacon was thick cut and splendid, and melted blue cheese was great too. Substitute onion rings for french fries, they are on a different level than the fries. you can get dipping sauce for them and we tried the chipotle which was more like a thick mayo. (eh) Beers tried were Sixpoint Sweet Action and Brownstone, and Laguintas IPA. All three were great selections. The Dumont Elixer mixed drink was also very tasty.
