I've been on a burger tour of NYC for about 4 months now and I have to say that Dumont is top 5. I ordered their Dumont Burger and everything came A Le Cart which was annoying. The cramp seating is also kind of annoying but I guess that's Williamsburg! It was very well decorated and would be an ideal first date spot Although it is usually super packed the service was quick. I got my burger in 15 minutes and my goodness. The patty itself is the reason why I gave it 4 stars. It's thick, juicy, and full of flavor. My friends and I had to utilize the restaurant's outdoor dining in the freezing cold and the staff couldn't be more helpful. They set up screens and a heater to keep us warm. The customer service alone is what sets these guys apart from the rest. Their food was the cherry on top for me. I loved it. Given the circumstances, it's admirable what DoMont Burger was able to provide for us. I hope they're able to continue the business. read more

If you're looking for a cheap burger and fries, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for one of the best burgers of your life, and your willing to spend around $15-$20, then you're set. I went with a friend and we split a burger ($12.50) and got cheddar cheese on it it (+$1.50). It came with fries, and everything was delicious. We also split the macaroni and cheese, which is by far the beset mac and cheese I've ever had. I definitely couldn't have eaten it all by myself, so this is something you should get to share! It has cheddar, gruyere, parmesan, bacon, and radiatore pasta. It is simply fantastic. Everything came out nice and hot, and they even cut the burger in half so we could split it easily. The service was awesome, and the atmosphere is cozy. Dark, and lit by candles. It's a cool play to hang. It also has a nice outdoor seating area in the front of the restaurant so you can watch all the hipsters walk by on Bedford. Most of the time when you go to a diner and order a burger and fries, you end up spending about $10 or more, so you might as well just fork over the extra dollars for a good meal. read more

I've lived in Greenpoint/Williamsburg for 23 years and Dumont Burger is a place I've been to in the past and enjoyed. It had been a long time since I've been in there but was craving a burger so went yesterday with a friend. The small space had one table seated of 6 or 7 people, all with menus. There were no other customers, including at the bar. My friend and I sat at the bar. There were two people who worked there, a man and a women, both behind the bar. The woman was standing directly in front of where we sat down at the bar, and was texting on her phone. We looked at each other and waited for her to great us. A few minutes later, she had no looked up and neither did the man who was also behind the bar. We were DIRECTLY in front of her so there was no way that she didn't see we were there. After another few moments, the woman finished texting on our phone and instead of looking up and saying hello- or anything- she turned around and walked to the other end where the other male employee was standing at the end of the bar. At this point, about 5 minutes had gone by and finally, in shock, we decided to leave. The lack of "hospitality" was shocking. I was a waitress for years so I tend to be really empathetic towards servers and usually leave a good tip even if the service isn't great. This was jaw-droppingly rude to me. How can a restaurant have people working there who can't even be bothered to say hello to guests. Avoid Dumont Burger at all costs, there are plenty of other places where you will be acknowledged when walking in the door and appreciated for being a patron. If I were the owner of Dumont I would be mortified to have my employees behave this way. Before leaving, my friend walked over to both of them and said, sarcastically "thanks for the warm greeting, we are leaving" to which the both looked at her blankly. What in the world is wrong with people? I guess the 20 somethings didn't get the memo that working somewhere means WORKING and not starting at your phone and ignoring people at all costs. The easiest way to track this place down is to search for "donut burger," and that fact alone is worth three stars. The other star comes from the fact that they fry their mini donuts right in front of you, which is A) awesome and B) never seen outside seasonal apple cider joints way out in the sticks. As for the donuts themselves, they are similar to cider donuts and some East Coast fritters in that they're made from a pancake-like batter that makes them lighter than a traditional cake, but not as fluffy as a proper raised donut. Similar to what you'd make at home using waffle mix as a base. But that's not a problem, because they're also hella fresh. And the dude just times them with a kitchen timer he sets on the countertop, so if you like them with a little extra crisp, like I do, just ask for a few extra seconds on the fry. The ginger ones are tossed with flavorless ginger sugar, but the other flavors just come plain with "dipping sauce" on the side. At $6 for nine mini donuts and a few cups of dipping sauce it's kind of precious and ridiculous, but I'm pretty sure that's the entire point of all of Williamsburg anyway. read more

So the rest of my party was set on ordering the DuMont Burger after quickly skimming the menu. I on the other hand, figured I'd choose something different so I can come back to Yelp and write my review here with some more substance (I always have Yelp on my mind.. always). But silly of me to think the three people I came to here to dine with would share! I had maybe a couple of bites (if even) of a medium rare burger and it was so delicious! Juicy and succulent.. together with the onions, lettuce, tomatoes on the side, I savored all two (if even) bites that I had! And then I went ahead to finish my entire fish sandwich with my side of french fries. The skate was fried and seasoned perfectly.. the fish itself was moist and flaky. I dunked each bite into the side of tarter sauce and practically licked my plate clean. This location is particularly small. Lucky we missed the dinner rush and were seated immediately! The service was great (our waitress misordered my side with onion rings and with no hesitation, gave me my correct side of fries) as well as the diners. DuMont burger was ok. The fries are aweosme. Hand-cut, homemade goodness. And the pickles and co. were good too. The batter in this place is awesome. But the burger...not so good. I ordered it medium, and it was cooked to a perfect medium. But the meat was dry and not so tasty. The bread, it seemed, was heated in the grill, and was also way too dry. My husband ordered the normal sized burger and I got the smaller one. The smaller one is a lot smaller by the way. If there are two of you getting a small one each, just go for the big one and split that. More bang for buck that way. But everything else was good. Like I said, the fries were awesome. The onion rings has a delicious buttermilk/beer like batter. I couldn't get enough, and I usually don't eat too much fried food (makes me dizzy). The sliced pickles are a little sweet. That isn't bad or good, just thought you should know. The big pickle the meal comes with is nice and salty and sour, but the pickle chips are a little sweet. Oh, and if you're going for a cocktail, try the bloody mary. They do it really well. Very good mix (almost gazpacho like). Wish they stuck it with a strip of crunchy bacon, a stick of celery and a huge prawn though. That would've upped it a lot. I also had the veracruz. It was a nice recipe (chilli infused tequila with a mango base juice). But the bloody mary was better. Way better. Unfortunately, I won't be back for the burgers. Took a risk in picking this place, but it was worth it! I came here for my friend's birthday (as a group of four) back in February and this place was great! This place looks more like a pub than it is a restaurant, and it is fairly small. However the food was exactly the opposite. For a $14 burger, this was a huge portion that came with tomatoes, pickles, and fries. I ordered my burger medium well and they did a good job cooking the burger. I really enjoyed their fries and their burger was just so savory and tender. It is one burger that I can never forget the taste of. I really loved the pickles and cucumber too as they were very flavorful and crunchy, and not dull. My friend and I ordered the boozy shakes and found it interesting how it was made outside the establishment. She came through the door with our drinks and the price was not that bad at all (around $8- $9). The boozy shakes, you can hardly tell that there is any alcohol in it which I enjoy. I've visited DuMont Burger twice, and although my first experience was okay, the second was decidedly terrible. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on this one, but I'm not sure if I'll be returning after the last visit. First, I like the atmosphere. The burger is fine, if very overpriced. And I even like the novelty bourbon milkshakes. But what I don't like is sitting at the bar for an hour waiting to get that now-melted milkshake, and a burger that takes no more than 5 minutes to prepare, while the restaurant fills with smoke billowing out of the kitchen. Maybe it was just an off night for the staff. That might explain the absurd wait times, inattentive staff, doughy and tasteless onion rings, messy plating, lack of utensils, and the roaring kitchen fire. But if an establishment is going to charge close to $20 for some melted store-bought generic brand ice cream with a shot of Evan Williams mixed in, I'd at least expect a competent staff to deliver it. Chances are I won't be back before Williamsburg rent prices wipe this place out like every other monument to hipster excess. If you want an overpriced sandwich, just walk a block or two up the street to Whole Foods. read more

It was national burger day...so of course it was important to partake in it. I got the mini dumont burger w/mixed greens, & fried pickles....Amazing!!! The mini burger is a baby burger but is enough for me if especially with fried pickles. My friend got the regular dumont burger with the works & garlic fries. It's national burger month.. that should be a good enough excuse for me to take a break from my curry katsu rage and sit down to enjoy a juicy burger. So a bunch of friends and I decided to "meat up" at DuMont burger... one of them claiming it was the best burger she's ever had. Cue the crooked eye. Forgive me.. but i've heard that more than once coming from her. It was a beautiful day so I took a shot. Outdoor seating makes it a plus for groups of 4 or less but my party of 7 had to sit on the island indoors. Still not bad with the open air set up. Down to the nitty gritty. Appz- try the mac n cheese.. add the bacon. they dont use elbows but instead the ones that look like ikea rolo sized circular screws (YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.. lol). it makes a difference..because the cheese sits inside the ridges adding to the cheesy flavor. i also love bacon. period. Burger- DuMont burger. Brioche bun.. what looks like a 3/4 lb of beef. Juices flowing. very nice. but you know there is too much of a good thing. I felt a little sick after eating half of it. I'm not sure if I should be complaining but that was the lasting impression. Sides- I ordered the onion rings and loved every bite of it. crispy on the outside and juicy onion on the inside. my friends ordered the parmesan garlic fries.. they were too "garlicky". i would've preferred some garlic salt instead of the huge garlic chunks in there. these were dracula proof fries. final take: i'm a shake shack guy. small clean tasty burgers. if you like monstrous burgers this may be the place for you... however this is a little too far of a venture for me. read more

NYC FOODAPOLOOZA STOP #23 as you can see in the photo, we did not come for a burger, like when we went to stand4. that is a large dumac & cheese that dumont is famous for and something i decided to attempt for thanksgiving this year. when you go to dumont, you'll find the sit down restaurant to the left and the take-out area to your right. we didn't want to bother another server and order one under $20 dish to share, so hit up the take-out. the mac & cheese was superb, not the best i've ever had (that one goes to home), but damn good! the combination of the swirly pasta (radiatore) that holds everything, bacon lardons, and cheddar & gruyere were harmonious. definitely going to add this to the returning list. i'll also let you know how mine turns out. read more

I was highly recommended to this spot by a friend of mine. My experience at DB wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed the food; however, Iv'e had better. First, when me and my friends got in, we were greeted and welcomed to sit anywhere we like. The interior of the place was very nice, rustic, and what you would expect from a Williamsburg like restaurant. The place was fairly small so I wouldn't suggest a group of more than 4. We started off our DB experience with the Fried Pickles & Co ($6). which included both Fried Pickles and Fried String Greens. The batter that they use is phenomenal because it was good and very light. I was very impressed and they used sweet pickles rather than sour which was a delightful change. For the dinner, I grabbed the Dumac & Cheese Burger 5oz ($15). It was a bit underwhelming for odd reasons. The Mac & Cheese and the burger cancelled each other out and made it a good, yet not explosive burger. I would probably recommend either the Dumac & Cheese ($12/18) or the Dumont Burger ($12/14). The Mac and Cheese by itself was so good and when I go back I will without a doubt get it by itself. The burger itself was also well prepared and cooked well so as a stand alone burger, I can imagine it being a very good burger. Lastly I had a Vanilla Milkshake ($6) to wash it all down but it was just average, which for a very good meal was disappointing. However, they do have boozy milkshakes which Im very curious to try one day. All In all I had a great experience and a spot I will check out once again in the future, probably the summer to experience a nice drink outside. The service was very good and while I thought the Dumac & Cheese Burger was a bit expensive for the underwhelming experience, The whole menu is pretty fairly price. Literally the best burgers I've ever had! If you stop by here in Bedford I consider getting the DuMac & Cheese burger. It's always excellent, never a complaint about that. A friend brought us here for a burger claiming that it was better than our local favorite, Bareburger. I love a good burger and so was eager to try it, but I had my doubts. Bareburger is baller so I was definitely a skeptic. Turns out DuMont is pretty good. We had to wait a bit for an outside table but we didn't really notice because while we were sitting at the bar we had some absolutely cray-cray cocktails. We can recommend The John Daly, the French Occupation, and the Afternoon Remedy. When we finally sat down outside we started with the fried pickles which I thought were solid, but nothing to write home about. Then we were treated to some top-notch burgers with delish toppings. The beef patty is flavorful, juicy and cooked just right. I actually got the mini-burger which is not mini. It's just right and 3 dollars cheaper. I topped it with bacon and gruyere cheese. Lettuce, tomato and onion comes with. One of my friends got a DuMont burger- the regular size- and it was too much for her. You get a choice of fries, onion rings, mixed greens or soup as a side. I got the mixed greens salad with mine, which was perfectly good, but my buddies got the onion rings which are probably the best I've ever tasted. They're something between a beignet and blooming onion. Get the chipotle mayo to dip them in. They serve it with the fried pickles or as a topping for your burger too. Service was pretty sharp and when you sit outside tons of cute hipster dogs walk by with their owners. As for it's being "better than Bareburger," we're still on the fence. Were the two places equi-distant from our place, I might choose this place, but since Bareburger is in Astoria and opening a new location down the street from us soon, I'd still pick the Bare. DuMont is definitely worth a try though folks, and definitely get the onion rings. read more

Ok. This was our second time at DB after quite a few years. The first time there was phenomenal and I truly believed we had chanced upon a little place that provided a burger and fries of exceptional note. I had finally found heaven. Tonight's fare was unfortunately subpar due to several reasons. I had initially ordered the 8 oz burger but changed my mind a short while later reordering the 5 oz. The bar waiter said, not to worry, he had changed the order in the kitchen. I also made a point of asking for it medium rare and emphasized the rare part. He said fine and wrote it all down post haste. Soon after a bit of a wait (no problem - it's the 4th of July and it's busy) a gal comes out with our order laying the 8 oz in front of me. "But I ordered the 5 oz. Remember?" She runs back to the kitchen getting an available 5 oz. Brings it back and all seems fine. I take a bite into a very well done burger and am pretty disappointed. But hell, I'm hungry and I'm kind of tired of being a contrarian at the bar. So I still trudged through it all eating pretty much everything on my plate anyway. But I did notice a change in quality from the last time I had been there when everything was absolutely amazing. This time, they fxxxd up my order and gave me an over-cooked entree. The usually fabulous fries were less than pristine and gave me the impression that they had been sitting around in the back as they were prob returned from another's order. Not only that but the accompanying onion, pickle and tomato were wilted and lacked freshness. 2 beers, 2 burgers with fries and salad and what seemed a wee bit of Mac + cheese came to $46 including tax. I gave a modest tip considering my meal. Was it terrible? No, it wasn't. But it was certainly not what I had remembered. Will I be back? Maybe, but it won't be a priority. Especially when Shake Shack is right up the street from where I live. And where the price for essentially the same thing is less than half without the long trek to Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg. I guess this has more than a little to do with the new ownership. By all means, continue to go there but don't be surprised if you land on a day where they are not running the extra mile. I had heard of this place was good and they did not disappoint. I started with the fried pickles ($8) and greens beans and they were excellently fried in a light and very crispy batter with a great dipping sauce. As for the meal I got the chickpea burger which came with cucumbers tomato onion and lettuce with a tzatiki sauce and it was excellent and extremely fresh! I got the salad with it but the fries are also really good. I tried the regular DuMont burger and they are very thick thick and juicy pieces! Each burger came with a side for about $14. Dear DuMont Burger, I want you inside me. Uhhh...I mean, strictly in the digestive way. I know that I have gotten around, tasting other burgers, but I really think you are the one. You are so juicy, and tender and BIG- I like 'em big. The way you wear that brioche bun with your no-frills lettuce, tomato, onions and not-from-a-jar pickles... it makes my mouth water just thinking of you. I also like when you bring a large heaping of your friend french fries around with you, for added pleasure. I also love how cool you are when I want to hang with your other delicious non-meat friends, like chickpea burger and mac n' cheese. Although, I didn't care for your friend onion rings- way too bland. I know that people think that you are scene-y, and you can be very crowded and cramped sometimes- but, hey- you are worth the wait!
