Cleanliness is a huge issue, I have been here numerous times including the day it opened. The food is great however, when what the customer sees is a lack of cleanliness what else is going on in the back? I have noticed each time the windows are not cleaned, the bathroom is dirty or missing paper products, the back door exit also has dirt marks. Chili oil/vinegar/soy sauce jars on the tables are sticky. The food is not the issue here, it's the lack of pride keeping the service area clean. Pushing a dirty cart around to serve food is not great either. read more

(+) Regular menu with pictures and then a piece of paper has the menu listed and you mark what you want... easy! (+) Xiao long bao (soup dumplings) were fine, favorites were the noodles and scallion pancakes, will try more next time. Vinegar and soy sauce at the table mixed in with the thinly sliced ginger was a winning combo to dip into. I am not quite sure how long this restaurant has been open, but I think it's fairly new and it replaced what used to be Baja Fresh. There is plenty of parking as it is tucked in the corner of the Smart and final parking lot. We were greeted and seated immediately upon arriving. I love the authentic ambience and being able to see them make everything from scratch in the kitchen. It is very transparent that everything is made fresh and so we were prepared to wait a little bit for our food, but I think everything came out in a timely manner. We were shocked that there was Boba on the drink menu and the girls were delighted as they had requested Boba Nextdoor. They really enjoyed their drink drinks and the pork bao buns. I enjoyed the dishes and my cousin really liked the spicy wonton udon because it had a good kick. The service was efficient and the place was big with lots of seating and big,clean bathrooms. I'll be back to try more Chinese dim sum. read more

We arrived around 6pm on a Friday night. Once inside the door, there was a legal pad and you just write your name and wait with anticipation. The restaurant was busy, we were 4th or 5th on the list. After about 15 minutes our table was ready. Once seated, menus, utensils and an ordering card are in place. The ordering card really makes it easy to order. Every item on the menu is on the card. Every section in the menu matches the card. Even the drinks are on the card. This really makes ordering easy. Steamed pork buns and jumbo shrimp and pork shumai came out first. The buns are pillowy soft and slightly sweet. The bbq pork is slightly salty and pairs perfectly with soft sweet bun. The shumai are huge. These are 2 bite dumplings. They are freshly made and you can see them being made right behind the kitchen glass. The soup dumplings were good but they didn't have that much broth to them. Everyone in our party thought the pan fried dumplings were good I thought they were just average. I really liked the spicy dumplings. The Shanghai style noodles were a big hit for the whole table. I found the fried pork chop appetizer to be bland. The food overall is good. There really isn't any service. We would return to try more dumplings read more

Dear Hubby and I made a return visit to Dumpling Shack last week after being out & about for a medical appointment. That's often what gets me out of the house mid-week these days anymore. And for dumplings - YES! This has quickly become one of my favorite comfort food spots. I could have dumplings, potstickers, won ton, siu mai, or any of their cousins at least once or twice a week. As the fillings can be so varied, and accessory sauces likewise, there are endless possibilities. What I love about Dumpling Shack is that everything is freshly made. Their dough is light, and yet substantial. DH and I even took leftovers home because we were filling up quickly. We ordered simple won ton soup in delicate broth, pork chop fried rice, and house potstickers. Service was prompt and helpful when we had questions about the menu items. The gentleman greeting us at the entrance was very welcoming. The ambiance of the interior is a lot of white for my taste - could use some softening and added decor. But the restaurant is very clean and they stay on top of busing the tables. The condiments at the tables seem to be maintained regularly and not left sticky or half-filled. Visited with my family after this place was highly recommended by a friend, who claimed it was just as good as Din Tai Fung--if not better. Unfortunately, I have to disagree. When we arrived, we put our name down and immediately asked about the wait time. We were told it would be about an hour, which surprised us, but we were okay with it since half of our party was still on the way. We decided to go next door for a drink while waiting. Not even 20 minutes later, I went back to check on our table and found out our name had already been called. We quickly finished our drinks and rushed back, only to wait an additional 20 minutes just to be seated. During that time, we tried getting someone's attention multiple times, but no one acknowledged us. Once seated, I attempted to speak with our waiter, but there was a significant language barrier, which made it very difficult to ask questions or clarify anything. We placed our order, and I will say the food came out very quickly, which was appreciated since we were starving. As for the food--it was okay. Not bad, but definitely not comparable to Din Tai Fung. To make matters worse, a couple of items arrived that we never ordered. We tried to let the waiter know, but we were completely ignored and ended up being charged for them anyway. At the end of the meal, we asked for boxes and were ready to leave, but then the final frustration happened: while clearing the table, the waiter accidentally dropped chili oil on my white shoes. I ordered this recently and it was delicious. We got the onion pancake which was insanely good and flavor packed. The soup dumplings were perfection. And the pan fried dumplings were also perfect and delicious. The dessert custard ones were good too but a little too sweet for me. Only suggestion I'd make is to have more sauce variety other than soy sauce and rice vinegar. I think that would take it to the next level. Otherwise it was so great! read more

Such an unlikely type of restaurant in this neck of the woods and literally tucked in a small corner of an outdoor shopping area, which is why on a Saturday at just past 5:00 p.m., I was absolutely shocked to see the Dumpling Shack was completely packed with people... and stayed that way the entire time we were there. They don't take reservations, and we figured it'd be empty at that time. WRONG. It's surprisingly spacious inside, which helped for us to get seated right away. It was our first time there, and we didn't know what to order... or how much for three people (and nobody to ask), so we took our chances and ordered the following... Spring rolls (3 pieces) Onion pancake (approx. 8 small triangle pieces) Pork Xiao Long Bao (8 pieces) Shrimp Fried Rice Chicken with broccoli in sauce Pan-fried pork and shrimp dumplings (8 pieces) Okay, so I happen to know and love Din Tai Fung, so yes, that is my bar for comparison. Admittedly, I don't love all dishes there, but what I love, I use as a bar for comparison. How could I not? That would include their famous Pork Xiao Long Bao ("PXLB"), and nobody but nobody has matched theirs yet. Sorry, but the PXLB at Dumpling Shack doesn't have much in the way of pork or broth flavor, AND the dough is way too thick and gummy. Probably my least favorite dish here, truth be told. What I did love at Dumpling Shack were the pan-fried shrimp and pork dumplings. The dumpling itself was packed with flavor... of course, it was fried, and the dipping sauce was delicious. Why couldn't that sauce have been served with the PXLB... would've helped immeasurably. The shrimp fried rice was tasty, but it needed a bit of help in the flavor dept. I added a bit of soy sauce, and it improved, but I don't know. It was just missing something, and I'm not sure what. The vegetable spring rolls were served immediately upon frying and quite good. The onion pancake, on the other hand, that other Yelpers had raved about, was a miss for me. It just fried wonton... no pancake, and as far as the onion, it was altogether missing, but for about 3-4 microscopic pieces of green onion. I'm not kidding on the microscopic part, or how many. I honestly don't know what that was, but a pancake made of onions, it wasn't. Terrible to pass that off like that. The chicken broccoli dish was prepared decently as in chicken was tender and the broccoli was soft enough but still with a slight crunch, and while flavorful with some kind of brown sauce, it just wasn't with any "wow" factor... just a boring brown sauce with no special flavor. It did, however, pair nicely with the fried rice. The service was fast, but it was in reverse. We got our appetizers LAST. We got the fried rice first, then the PXLB and chicken broccoli. Then the pan-fried dumplings, and then our appetizers. The other strange thing is that they didn't want to be asked questions. They only appeared to take the order from you, bring drinks and food, and that was it. NO questions to be asked... I tried. I had menu questions, and I definitely wanted help with making up that little sauce mixture for the PXLB. None of that happened, but they brought our food fast. I think the young men working there are told to just grab our orders and go... no time for talking or answering questions. Who knows. I should add that all the food we had was quite enough for our party of 3 with some leftovers in the fried rice and chicken broccoli. I know I complained of most things, but believe it or not, I liked this place enough that we will return, and I believe I now know how to work with this kind of operation. I will order some different items because they have food items we didn't even explore... just too many to choose from in one sitting, and some we will order again, but make some alterations. The one dish we will get again for sure will be the pan-fried shrimp and pork dumplings. Five stars in my book on that dish. Everything else is up for grabs... but we will return for sure. read more

Finally got to try Dumpling Shack and was so thrilled I did! I just ordered a few classics and I will definitely be going back to order more off the menu sometimes soon. The Jumbo Shrimp & Pork Shumai really were outstanding, the chunks of shrimp were generous and the pork inside was juicy. I also really enjoyed the pan fried pork dumplings, egg custard buns, and BBQ pork buns as well. I ordered pickup online and was greeted immediately when I walked in the door, they retrieved my order quickly, and bagged it up nicely to go. The restaurant was quite busy around lunchtime, had lots of little tables, was brightly lit from all the windows, and looked really clean inside. I want to love this place....but I have mix feeling about this restaurant. First of all great to have some diversity in town! And amazing that we now have a dumpling place in the area. So why do I have mix feelings: for the price, I thought the quantity was small. The sticky rice was six dollars for a small amount, see picture. This is a just an example of price per size. Soup dumplings seemed deflated: lacked soup. On the positive note you don't have to run to Rosemead. Save gas. The food quality is ok. The best thing was the standard shrimp dumpling. The shrimp was good and the size of the dumpling was pretty good. Unfortunately not everything tasted as good: the pork bun flavor was off. The spicy wonton sauce was oh too salty. I've had this item at a lot of other places and the flavor was not salty but more spicy. As for service: service was good. Water filling was excellent. Ambiance: the restaurant seemed to be very clean and orderly. Despite my pluses and minuses, I would probably try this place again. read more

We are so happy to have such a great dumpling house nearby vs having to drive to LA all the time. The quality and flavors were so good in every dish we tried and so authentic. SO HAPPY!! Their food is almost just as good as the food in Chinatown and right next to the freeway! Tip#1: When you walk in, write your name and # of people in your party on the notebook by the door, and wait to be called. We went at 6p and waited for about 20 minutes before our table for 5 was ready. The place was packed and loud. SERVICE is good and QUICK. They were also great about refilling our water and taking empty dishes away. We ordered a variety of dumplings, including har gow and siu mai. Everything tasted amazing and fresh!! My fave dishes = FRIED PORK CHOPS (moist, seasoned perfectly, lightly battered and served sliced- perfect for sharing and easy to eat) , and the BEEF STIR FRIED UDON NOODLES! They were so soft and pillowy and the sweet salty flavor had me wanting more even though I was full. The CHILI OIL is also another hit in my book and complimented every dish,giving it the extra kick of spice I love. My only disappointments were the steamed pork steam buns :(. They weren't as good as they looked. They could use a lot of more filling and sauce. I also didn't see any hot mustard, which I would've love to have had to dip our food into. Great service, it's often found in Chinese joint and of course we don't expect it either. But this place do well, besides welcoming atmosphere plus crowded joint mostly. Food wise is pretty good, their dumpling skin improves from the first time we tried them that's why I wait a while before trying them back, it's pretty thin skin with flavorful meats. Dim sum has been missing from the food scene here in the 805, and this new spot is absolutely hitting every single mark. From the juicy dumplings, to the pork fried rice, classic noodle dishes, and their huge assortment of boba teas, everything tastes authentic and comforting, like a true taste of home that I had been missing all of these years in the 805. Even on a weekday lunch, the place was packed, but the kitchen kept things moving fast and every table left looking just as satisfied as I was. The service is on point...super attentive without ever feeling rushed. Huge shoutout to server Michael who made me feel so welcome and took such good care of me. The service was warm and everyone eager to serve. Every dish that I ordered I would definitely buy again. The food was all super flavorful, hot/made to order and had classic feel good flavors. Dumpling Shack has some seriously good food, but they're still ironing out a few service issues. I tried several dishes, and overall the flavors were great. The shrimp fried rice was tasty but a little on the bland side. The popcorn chicken was the standout--crispy, flavorful, and full of that signature Taiwanese herb flavor without being overly spicy. We ordered sautéed bok choy, but it never came before we finished eating, so we ended up canceling it. The pork xiao long bao had excellent flavor, though the skins could be thinner and I would've liked a bit more soup inside. The house special wontons were solid, with nice dumpling flavor and a decent spice kick, though the sauce cannot compare to the din tai fung spicy wonton sauce. On the drink side, both the mango green tea and peach green tea were very good--just a bit too sweet for my taste. My personal favorite is the tropical fruit tea, but timing matters; if you order it at the end of the day, the tea is steeped too long, it can get bitter. Overall, Dumpling Shack is worth visiting for its great flavors and variety, but they still need to smooth out some service hiccups and consistency issues. Great dumpling house close by. The restaurant has plenty of seating, inside and out. Staff were very attentive and service was fairly fast. The dumplings are made fresh in plain sight and steamed upon order, so this is why it might take a bit getting your food, but worth the wait. We tried the Steamed and Pan fried Shrimp & Pork dumplings, House Special Spicy Wontons & soup, Steamed Pork Bao and Bao with red bean, and sauteed Bok Choy. We stopped in to check out this newer restaurant and try some dumplings. We ordered a few different things to try.. Started with a Cheese Mango Smoothie. This was really delicious! Not sure what "cheese" is used, since we've never had a cheese smoothie, but it tasted like a usual mango smoothie, really good. The BBQ Pork Buns were nice. The bun itself seemed fresh, pretty thick and doughy. The BBQ pork didn't leave any lasting impression. Next, the Pork Xio Long Bao (pork soup dumplings) were nice as well. The broth inside was flavorful and these made a tasty bite. Finally, we had the Chicken Stir Fried Udon. This was my favorite dish. Full of flavor, a decent amount of chicken and the thick Udon noodles were perfect. The service was attentive and quick, even during the bust weekend lunch hour that we visited. We were greeted the moment we walked in the door, ordered by circling what we wanted on the menu and the food came out pretty quickly. I came around opening time and there were a couple people waiting. Got seated immediately and I ordered the scallion pancake, popcorn chicken, xiaolongbao, and spicy shrimp and pork wontons. Appetizers unfortunately came out last which was weird. The scallion pancake has a mochi texture but it's a little tough. You have to chew a lot and seemed like you have to use a lot of force to rip it through your teeth. I would MAYBE order it again. Popcorn chicken was very small for $10.. It was good but I don't think it was worth the price. Xiao long bao barely had any soup and the outer dumpling skin was a bit thick. The spicy wontons were probably the best thing on the menu. It was fresh, spicy, and very delicious. Is it comparable to Din Tai Fung? No. Is it decent for something in Moorpark? Yes. We went in a Monday a few days before Christmas and the place was hopping! Bright and open, with an upscale cafeteria style tables and chairs. Very clean. We were promptly greeted and served water and a menu. We ordered the soup dumplings, Broccoli beef and steamed short ribs. The dumplings were on the small side but made up for it in flavor, very tasty. The dough had excellent flavor and texture. The broccoli beef was the best I ever had, very fresh al dente broccoli with delicious sauce and tender, delicious beef. The steamed dumplings arrived tapis style (small plates). The meat had good flavor but it was bony & gristly. I've never had it before so I don't know if it's served that way. Like I said the flavors were all there. I would definitely go back. read more

Hidden gem alert in Ventura County. This place is always packed so be prepared to wait. On Friday 11:30am was already packed inside. Waiting is worthwhile however. This is possibly the only semi authentic dim sum Chinese restaurant around Ventura County. The employees are mostly from San Gabriel Valley (so far away and thank you) so the cooks are authentic. Food comes out pretty quick and steamy hot for us. The flavors are catered more to the Western demographics however. When you are seated you mark a sheet on what you like to order where waiters take to submit your order. You can't go wrong here, everything is pretty good. Xioa (Siu) long bao is what they are famous for which is juicy yummy tasty but temperature steaming hot so careful. It is hand made with so much love. My fav is the onion pancake which crispy exterior tasty soft interior pancake which is also most authentic in my opinion. The super long tasty noodles are really freshly delectable. We also ordered pork bao which is on par taste interior but exterior rice part they can rework it (not tasty). FYI the boba is not my fav because it is watered down. If you want good boba there is a Boba Time exactly next door. Portions are smaller so be prepared to spend about $45 for 2 people for about 4 small dishes. The ambiance is very pretty and modernist appearance. Open kitchen I like. Parking is in a large lot with Smart/Final Kohls plaza. Staff is plentiful and super helpful kind. We finally tried the new dumpling restaurant that just opened up in the valley and wow... they absolutely killed it. The inside is so modern and beautiful -- you can tell they put a lot of work into the remodel because everything feels clean, updated, and super welcoming. You can even see the ladies in the back working on the homemade dumplings, which I loved -- it makes everything feel so fresh and authentic. The service was amazing, too. We got all of our food so fast, which honestly impressed me even more since they're brand new. Everyone was friendly and everything came out fresh and hot. Now the food... Very GOOD. We started with the pork and shrimp wonton udon soup and the broth was so clean and flavorful, with bok choy and perfectly cooked wontons. Then we got the chicken xiao long bao -- homemade and full of the most delicious soup inside each dumpling. So flavorful! The pan-fried pork dumplings were another favorite. Slightly crispy on the outside, juicy inside -- perfect. The bok choy with the black vinegar sauce was also super tasty, and the pork BBQ buns were exactly what we needed -- that sweet and savory combo, stuffed with so much pork. And yes, it is a bit on the pricier side, but honestly it's worth it -- especially since everything is homemade and there aren't many dumpling spots in the valley to begin with. The quality definitely matches the price. Overall, everything we ordered was amazing and the quality really stood out. I'm so happy we finally have a dumpling place in the valley that reminds me of the SGV spots. And now we don't have to drive over an hour just to get good dumplings. We came here on Valentine's Day around 5:00 PM and had only about a 15 to 20 minute despite it being packed inside. When you first walk in there's a little tiny stand on the right hand side which we didn't see you when we first walked in so we went to the register and they told us to put our name on the list and then they call your name when our table was ready. Once seated you can browse the menu and then you select your items on a white double sided sheet of paper and then a staff member comes by to take your list. Then as the food is ready, it comes out. We did get our dessert sweet dish first which was fine and then we were there at least an hour with the food trickling in little by little. everything was delicious. Nothing was over seasoned or strong to the taste; everything was pretty mild. The tea's were pretty sweet, which is to be expected. The staff was really nice and were patient when asking about what was in certain dishes. Our favorite dishes were the pan fried chicken wontons, the spring rolls, the deep fried wontons, and the pork soup dumpling. The peach buns were very bland, but I'm not sure if that's how they are typically so not our preferred taste but weren't terrible. We definitely will be returning to try some other menu items and repeat some of the ones we liked. The restaurant overall was very simple decor, clean and mostly table and chair seating with one wall of bench seating. Open air kitchen. Came close to opening season for them and I am very excited to see all the business they are getting in moorpark as a dumpling/dimsum place. It's rad to see business that haven't really been in town thrive, and it makes me want to support them more to prove that yes we can support a dimsum place over here. To make the obvious comparison to DTF is likely a bit unfair because of the worldwide infrastructure and quality of DTF. But to be a bit unfair, and use the comparison as a centering point, there are pros and cons to dumpling shack. I think the real shining dishes here were the noodle ones, and not the soup dumplings. The udon dishes felt like a particular standout. read more
