The service was horrible, the woman forgot my donut and didn't even give me a receipt.

To most Polish Americans, National Pączki Day means making a ton of these delicious sweets and…read morebinge-eating them. It is celebrated the Thursday in the week before Ash Wednesday, whose tradition is unique since it dates back to at least the Middle Ages, and is the perfect excuse to eat the famous and delicious Polish pastry. Pączki, pronounced "poonch-key," are Polish deep-fried donuts that are filled with some sweet filling such as jam, custard, lemon curd, or chocolate. They are usually covered with powdered sugar, icing, glaze, or dried orange zest. Located on Jewell Street in Garfield, we've been coming here to Kohout Bakery for a couple of years. Greeted by the friendly staff, my partner and I were lucky to have the whole establishment to ourselves. Like a step back in time, this small bakery sells freshly made bread, danishes, cookies, strudel, and some deli meats. Patrons have raved about the perfect balance of flavors, particularly noting the distinction between glazed and powdered jelly varieties. We picked out a couple of their donuts, whose price was very reasonable and cash only. This bakery continues to celebrate the joy of baking and the flavors of generations past, which we can recommend.

A quaint, clean, friendly bakery. Many selections of Polish sweets, breads, pierogies, meats and…read moremore. Very reasonably priced. There are plenty of good items to enjoy! My favorite -and I order ahead - is their Polish rice cake :) The cookies are gone before a day goes by! Oh, and try their macaroni salad. Yummy! This shoppe feels like 1969 and I mean that in the very best way! Go and enjoy a little of everything The staff will help you describing what you don't recognize. I could go on and on. Park wherever your car fits. It's on Kohout's Way and they don't ticket. Cash only. ATM across the street. Plan to smile when you get home :) Your car will smell delicious too!

I was craving something sweet for afternoon time. This is the only dessert place open in GSP in…read moreSunday afternoon. The lady was great. Very friendly and helpful. They have many options of doubts, coffee and tea. Got a green tea with my chocolate donut. Both are good. No seats or tables particularly for Glaze Donuts. But it's in a food court/mall so many places to sit.

Glazed Donuts appears to be a new shop located at the food court area, right In front of the escalators going up the second floor towards AMC Theaters. This shop has several locations, and it's our first visit. The selection of specialty donuts and weekly specials are phenomenal. We picked up two donuts to try out: 1. "rainbow cookie" inspired donut, and yes it is entirely coated with chocolate just like any authentic rainbow cookies! 2. Classic chocolate glazed donut with sprinkles . The donut selections were so fun and the young woman helping us did such an excellent job with her recommendations too! To be honest, we wanted one of each flavor in stock. I'll definitely have to visit again to try out their flan donut! The chocolate glaze on these donuts are much thicker than ANY other donuts out there, almost like a ganache, which I prefer. The cake portion is very decadent, and for a moment I thought I was having cake, except in a donut form. In my opinion, the two donuts we ordered with chocolate pairs perfectly with a glass of cold milk.

Have tried several different Polish bakeries & this one(at least as far as babka goes) is by far…read morethe best. I get two of the 3 types Cheese & 7 sisters both very good. The 7 Sisters is very similar to the one Pechters used to make when they had an attached retail bakery for the public(which sadly closed for good during the pandemic) Other items were cheesecake(more like ricotta not two sweet & despite appearance it's surprisingly moist with a layer of chocolate icing), crystal sugar coated creme horns, layered apple cake & until the last couple of visits very good of all things Florentine Lace cookies(which originated from Italy or France depending on who you talk to). All items are fresh & last 5-7 days. Workers are always polite & even though all Polish do speak enough English to properly serve their non-Polish speaking customers. The bakery is very small so any specialty items I always order ahead. As far as the parking I would just park in the lot next door but on my last visit this past Xmas Eve there was a sign on the bakery door warning not to do that because you may get ticketed &/or towed. Fortunately, I was able to find a spot on the same block on the street. The lot as usual was less than 1/4 full so the town of Passaic needs to use their brains & realize making it harder for small business to succeed(especially one where the local clientele has changed drastically over the years) is only going to cost the town in the long run. At least during this visit the meters were covered so no worries about getting a parking ticket. I will continue to patronize this establishment as long as I can park within a block or two.
