The displays with donuts were mostly empty except with a select few still left over. It's cool that they offer both yeast and cake donuts to choose from. I ended up getting a half dozen with red velvet frosted, cherry glazed, regular glazed, lemon filled jelly donut, and two more that I can't recall. And I got this interesting chocolate milk that had a good amount of protein in it too. Donuts and milk! The donuts tasted pretty good. A good combination of airiness and fluffy and seemed to be fully cooked through. That lemon filled jelly donut was pretty hefty too; definitely one of the heaviest donuts I've ever had...lol As I was checking out, the lady behind the counter informed me this particular store has been going strong for more than 40 years, which is damn impressive!! Still, the manager on duty, Mario, said he couldn't help and would pass it on to his supervisor. We left the cake with them and walked out empty-handed--no replacement, no apology, no effort to resolve the issue. We ended up going to Sam's club buying two cakes($50 total with tax), and creatively combining them to save the party. Honestly, those cakes turned out better than what we originally purchased for $150.00 from La Luz This experience was really disappointing, especially considering the loyalty and money we've given LaLuz over the years. The food is really the star here, in terms of the items offered and in the quality of ingredients, good textures, and design of the dishes. I was very pleased that every dish I tried was minimally very good, and flavorful. The burritofull morning sounds like a standard breakfast burrito, but the flat iron steak was spiced to perfection and tender. The mix of chorizo, roasted peppers, chipotle crema, and salsa verde were surprisingly not too salty and really helped to enhance the flavor of the steak. The crispy hash browns, onions, and chihuahua cheese helped to round out the remainder of this dish with some carbs and a bit of fat, resulting in a very enjoyable dish with nice crispy potatoes on the side.
