Went in to get some paint matching samples done- The sweet girl helping me told me it would be an hour (it was close to lunch time for the "mixers). I looked a bit more at other paint chips and decided on another color to add. When she went to have it prepared, she came back with all my samples. The one hour wait turned into 15 minutes. Talk about service! Actually, there were 3 very helpful and sweet young women- Elizabeth, Leslie and Maggie. I observed helping others as well, always very helpful and professional. Rhan was helpful and patient on customer. I went there today, finding paints and tools for my upcoming wood furniture painting project. The lady I encounter at the desk were totally not in the situations,as she told me they only sell wall paint, and have no advisor there. I wonder around the aisles and met Rhan. Don't know the name of the woman w the dark brown or black hair who works their today (believe she might be Mexican) but my family and I are moving out soon so I went in to buy some paint. After looking at some colors I had a few ideas so I needed to go to the bathroom and when I came out I was going to ask for help. I asked the lady at the register if they have a bathroom & she said "it's for customers" fine completely understandable but she was so rude when she said & looked me up and down. I was confused because I was going to buy something so I said " oh you have to buy some thing?" And walked out because hell no i'm not gonna buy from a place that has a customer service. Found a different place & they were super sweet and i'm about to buy a few buckets of paint from them :) read more

I manage my own commercial buildings and buy my own paint. Dunn Edwards at Highland is one of the prime examples of why a company shouldn't hire idiots and let them run a store. My time is too valuable and therefore, I can't afford to shop at this store run by idiots. You are guaranteed a miserable 30-60 minute wait before some dolt who barely speaks English and doesn't understand English at all calls your number and attempts to take your order. The location is so convenient for my hollywood properties, but the time I get stuck here, makes this place a bad choice for paint. I agree with the other reviewer that this place is like visiting a snail farm in slow motion. And talk about uncomfortable, there is always a pack of seedy looking day laborers loitering in the parking hitting me up for work. I have crossed this store off my list of places I buy paint. read more

I will never ever go back to this place. I waited all week to go there and upon arrival, there were two Asian men in the parking lot. I passed him as I went into the store. As he entered the store, he went around passed me to go ask if a male customer needed help. When I got to the register the same customer was behind me in line. The same Asian man looked at him, past me and asked him if he could ring him up. The guy behind me even stated that I was next. I don't need to be in a store where I am ignored because I am a woman. I was very wearing a very bright purple shirt and you couldn't miss me. This guy was an idiot I will never ever bring business to the store. read more

MAtching paint is not an easy task. But left in the hands of Tony and Carmello, I bet there isnt a color they couldnt duplicate! They were very patient with my necessity for preciseness and they too joined my journey for the perfect color. Not long after I walked in the door, I was walking out with the perfect colors! Dunn-Edwards produces excellent paint. I have no issues with their paint. This store location, however, has (for lack of the word Yelp will allow me to post) an inconsiderate, ignorant, prick of a manager. I'm not a regular customer at this location (I am at the Korea town location...love you guys there!) nor will I ever return here. Their system: Take a number and wait your turn. I'm good with that. Unfortunately, the machine that gives the numbers doesn't appear to have any numbers in it. So I step back and wait (in full view of the workers) until it appears to be my turn. And then a guy walks in, opens the faulty number machine and takes out a number. He's a regular. He knows the machine is broken and that you have to open it to take a number. But how would I know that? How would anyone that is not a regular in this store know that? So when it appears to be my turn, the cashier asks me for my number. I explain that the number machine isn't working. He calls out the next number. The guy who came in after me walks up to the cashier (yes, the very same guy that knew to open the machine to get his number). I interrupt and try to explain to the cashier that I am not a regular in this store. The machine appeared to be broken. He tells me that I should read the sign on the machine that says take a number. He then turns away from me and begins to ring up the guy that came in after me. The female cashier next to him tells me don't worry, I will take you next. But I lost it, and called him a few choice words and walked out. When I got to my car, I thought to myself, this guy has to know that the number machine is faulty and I need to explain what happened to the manager. So I go back in and ask the female cashier for the manager. She points him out. I approach the manager and ask if he heard the situation a few minutes ago. He said what situation. I explain what happened and we walk over to the number machine. He sees that there are no numbers visible. I open the machine to expose the numbers. He tells me that his worker was right not to take me without a number because "how could he know I was there first." I explain that he has a faulty number machine, which he can clearly see. I tell him he is being illogical. I explain, why would I waste my time explaining the situation to him and the cashier if I'm a liar with the sole intention of cutting in line. He shows no empathy. He couldn't care less about me. A long time ago, I was taught, "do not have a battle of wits with an unarmed person." There was no point in continuing with this guy. I am a professional painter, so I know that paint stores function a little differently than convenience stores. It always takes a little longer. Just the way it is. Dunn Edwards on Highland, though..... If you're thinking of going there, you'd better take a book or take a Valium. It takes less time to be treated by doctor at a walk-in clinic than to buy a roll of tape at Dunn Edwards on Highland. Entering this store is like visiting a snail farm. It's like stepping into a time vacuum. It's as if the employees have been instructed to move so slowly that motion can only be detected by time lapse photography. Even during off-peak hours, when the place is nearly customer-free, you can expect to take a number and settle in for the long haul. They have a numbered-ticket, first come first serve system. That's cool and only fair when it's a busy day with lots of customers. However, they have no express line and this numbered system is observed, religiously, at all times. If you walk in to buy something right off the shelf, with no need of mixing service, you'll still need to take a number and wait... even if the store's practically empty. Here's a typical account of a visit to Dunn Edwards on Highland. It isn't isolated. It's based on many many visits. You arrive at the store at 2:00pm. You've chosen this off-peak hour because you know, from experience, that it will go faster. The first thing you do is to take a numbered ticket. Your number is 57. There is one customer ahead of you, and you can see that his ticket number is 56. The lighted number sign reads 54. You head for the display of the item you've come to get and take your time choosing carefully. There are three employees sauntering slowly back and forth, disappearing and reappearing, refilling the coffee maker, and checking with fellow employees in the back room. As if by mere chance, one of the employees heads for the cash desk. "Fifty-five. Number fifty-five. Fifty-five." No takers. You'd think he'd move on to 56, but NO! There's something of greater importance that must be dealt with, very slowly and meticulously, elsewhere. When he returns to the register, he takes number 56's order, then creeps to the back room to turn in that order and discuss football for about five minutes. By the time you hear the magic number, 57, called, You're familiar with every item in the store because you've been pacing and reading the instructions on the backs of the cans. "FIFTY-SEVEN!" You head, with glee, to the register, but, WAIT! Suddenly, from out of nowhere, an elderly man appears and he's waving ticket number 55. As if by magic, another employee exits the back room and heads for the second register. Once there, she glances at the number sign, then organizes the pencils and notepads very nicely before calling your number. "You guys should seriously consider some sort of express lane for people who don't need paint mixed. This number stuff isn't really fair to us guys who just come in and pick something off the shelf." Dead silence. "I mean, this happens every time. Can't get in and out of here in less than thirty minutes, even when I'm just making a straight purchase." Dead silence. "Oh, come on! This can't be the first time you're getting this complaint." "No Sir, it's not. That will be $36.50." That's all. Dismissed. It's 2:35 pm. Honestly, I would not shop at Dunn Edwards on Highland if any other nearby paint store carried the product that I frequently purchase from them. I do use Dunn Edwards in Santa Barbara, and it's a completely different and much more speedy and enjoyable experience there. So I think that the problem is isolated to this location. If time is important, you should visit PGP Paints, just up the street. read more

Terrible customer service, you can't even pick up of a phone order without waiting 20 minutes, overpriced, and the same formula varies widely in color from batch to batch. I'm stuck with them for touch-ups because my first contractor used them, but I never will use them for any future projects. Go with Benjamin Moore. read more

terrible location. went in to have some paint matched, a basic service that any paint store provides. after waiting for 10 minutes while the worker tried to help a customer pay while his computer was frozen he finally looked up and saw that he was at work and called another worker. this worker an assistant manager did not know how to match my sample which was a pretty large square of painted drywall. he kept asking me how long it would take me to match it. i walked out went to another paint store and got it done. their hiring standards are abysmal read more
