I LOVE THIS LOCATION! Always so friendly. And usually I don't get greeted the best being a woman entering a hardware store. But Steve is the main guy and he's just the best! I think he said he's worked there since before I was born! But don't tell him I said that plz! Lol. I rented a house literally less than a block away for two years. I would walk there all the time for any house needs, since I worked in my yard and house alone. Steve always had the best recommendations and advice. Went to the Renton store to look at composite decking. When we asked about pricing the salesman said it was about $6.00. Not very helpful. Went in 2 months ago trying to replace lumber parts from our broken fence&sheds. Wasn't disappointed. Even I didn't purchase anything here and eventually bought them at Lowe's. I'd like to appreciate the young gentlemen who helped me a lot. Steve gave a demo on how to install new pieces when I told them I had 0 experience on carpentry. Friendliest crew team ever seen. My discovery was Dunn actually brings the quality to the next level when it comes to hardwares. I've looked through several hardware stores, yet none of them by far has the ability to overcome Dunn. We have had the need to order mdf to repair our crown molding not once but twice and both times, they were able to find the exact item, order it for us and even deliver it to our door (for a measly $20 delivery charge) The second time, I just called, they looked up the previous order and were able to do it all over the phone. My coworker and I often go to this Dunn lumber for supplies, and every time we have an excellent experience! The guys working at the desk are great- fast, thorough, and friendly. One guy (Rick I think?) was totally patient with us one time when we had an issue and had to call our boss for clarification on something. The guys working the yard are also awesome! Friendly, and always efficient in their loading. They also make sure they are giving us good quality pieces and take back any warped or cracked lumber. Dunn Lumber is the Best! I want to thank all the guys at Dunn Lumber for all their help and guidance for my son's Boy Scout Eagle project. His project was to help the South Bellevue Community Pea Patch at Holly Cross Luthern Church expand and build 5 new garden beds for the the Garden's In The Orchard. They helped my son identify non-pesticide woods to use, plus helped calculate you the quantity and which nails to use. 13 years of living in Burien and I have never really had great experiences at Dunn. The team all Park themselves at the front counters staring at their computers and never seem to want to help the local guy solve a problem. Today was typical- I needed a screw to fit into an old electric box in my bathroom to mount a new light above my mirror. The screws that came with the light were just slightly too wide. I took a photo, thinking perhaps the standard of boxes was different in the 50's. I went into Dunn and the cashier basically pointed me at the screws. So I walked over to the 5 staff standing behind their computers (perhaps solving today's climate problems?) and showed them the screw that was too large and the photo and asked if anyone knew what the standard was or had any ideas on how I could figure out the proper screw. One guy laughed and said "oh there was no standard in the 50's, just go buy a bunch of screws and try them all". Didn't even offer to show me where the screws were other than pointing in the general direction. I went over there and holy cow, what a selection. Never mind. So I gave up on these unhelpful non-caring employees, and went over to Ace on 153rd. The assistant manager, a young guy asked how he could help as soon as I walked in. I showed him my challenge and he said "oh well there are pretty much only two sizes of screws that fit in these boxes- so if it's not the one you have, it's the smaller of the two. He walked me over to the screw "sizer", sized the wrong screw and said "yup I was right, it's the smaller one". He reached in a bin and handed me two screws that were slightly smaller than the one I brought in. Cost 12 cents each. Went home and they fit perfectly. Ace has always been awesome and helpful and friendly. Dunn, I'm guessing whatever they do on their computers is more important than helping customers try to solve issues. Even though Dunn is closer, I'll never go back. read more

I have to say that 'Jason D' review (posted 2/17/17) is EXACTLY my numerous experiences with Dunn Lumber. Both at their Burien, and their Renton location. My wife and I are getting into the depth of building a fairly large building (12 x 26 - 3 stories). We did purchase some lumber from the Renton Dunn Lumber about 4 months back for this project. And I was treated as I am normally treated. "Give me the type and size of the lumber; and shut the F up... now pay me please... Ok - take this and go out and someone will tell you where to pick it up..." I know of NO ONE at Dunn who has EVER depicted the desire to actually help. They all sit at their ever important computers... Today; my wife and I have been pricing out 2 x 8 x 12' floor joists. Then we are going to have all of the numerous studs for the walls... But, I'm building a bit slowly; because of my work to earn money; and not wanting to get the wood soaked in a bunch of rain. So, today we are looking to purchase a bunch of floor joists to install - so I can get the first floor in... Checking out Prices; availability of 2x8x12 #2 or better, etc. and said: "what was that place that had that long piece we got earlier..." turned out it was Dunn in Renton. But Jason's review totally got to me - because it depicted the EXACT situation which I had whent I purchased that wood... and reminded me that this is what I ALWAYS get at Dunn. So, now I'm back to Alki, Lowes, or HD. And I might check out Ace a bit more for different stuff. But NO, I don't like Dunn - totally because of their attitude towards me - a regular guy trying to do a project. Purchasing a bunch of wood to build a building. Alki has always treated me great; but they have elevated prices just like Dunn does.... They do have the product if you need it - but they are not helpful. Compton's has been helpful; not as great as Alki - but better than Dunn. And they also have product (wide variety of sizes). read more

Dunn has been very helpful in our recent shed project. We received a ton of guidance and ideas from Lyle, one of the employees. Their prices were excellent as well as delivery costs. The lumber we ordered was also of a much higher quality than what we found at some of the big hardware stores. I would highly recommend this store, and I plan to return for more supplies. read more

After this unfortunate interaction I was contacted by a Representative who actually took the time to look into what happened and explained to me what went wrong. Apparently their POS and website ARE in sync but the sales rep mis-stepped and the product I was looking for was actually only in one location (something that their website does not obviously reflect). After speaking with them I would say it's clear that customer service is very important to them and I'd guess that my experience is not normal. I'm going to continue shopping there for future projects and update this review again. Lastly, I want to mention that I was NEVER asked to change my review, which in my opinion shows integrity, and commitment to service over appearances. Love this location and the employees! Particularly Lyle and Steve are always there to take care of our families needs. We are not a contractor but are always treated with the same level of quickness/urgency and professionalism. The guys know their stuff and can even help with basic design know how or finding an alternative when you bring in a Pinterest project you are trying to replicate. The lumber is top quality and you never have to worry about your wood warping like some purchased from the big huge hardware stores, I appreciate that because we have had a couple projects almost ruined over warped or defective products that we didn't ten point inspect before purchasing (we have a family with kids and cannot always stay long in the store). They are open convenient hours for a speciality-ish (compared to the huge stores) lumber yard. I recently had an awesome experience at this Dunn Lumber location and wanted to take the time to say THANK YOU by writing a review on Yelp. We tackled a trim project at our house (door casings and baseboard trim), and showed up to Dunn Lumber with our measurements and a truck (after pricing out Home Depot and comparing to Dunn Lumber prices, we were shocked that Dunn Lumber was actually CHEAPER than the big box store for the style of trim we wanted). The sales guy (don't remember his name) was very helpful, and figured out exactly how much material we needed to order. When our order was placed and paid for, we had 3 guys helping us load the truck, protect the product from rain (with a plastic sleeve), and secure the load. We didn't have to do a thing except pay for the material! The service was top notch and Dunn Lumber has a new lifetime customer in me/us. I will continue to go back and support this business. Amazing Customer Service and breadth of stock. They matched a 25 year old molding for me and special ordered it. After I stained it to match my woodwork instead of my cabinets by mistake, they suggested a double molding approach that saved my whole project.
