We've been going to this ACE for years. The employees are always super nice, though sometimes they don't have something we're looking for. But we always try them before going to a big box store. This past weekend we needed to rent a carpet cleaner and just had the BEST experience with the lady working at the front. She was just super nice and made sure the unit was clean. When we returned it she asked how everything went and made sure we were happy. When we were walking out my husband turned to me and said "and that's why I'll always come here first." read more

This is a good place for EGO battery-powered tools. Bret helped me and was super-knowledgable about EGO products. It is a small store but they seem to try to fit in the best selection that they can. Home Depot does not catty EGO and Lowe's was out-of-stock. read more

Just had the worst experience ever regarding customer service. Searched the web for a hibachi and found one at Ace Hardware in Fairwood, WA. Per the web site only one unit remained so I purchase it for curbside pickup. What a joke! While standing outside by my car, trunk open, and awaiting someone to bring my purchase out. Several times the on the phone a female kept asking me for my order number and name, which was repeated at least three times. I finally went into the store and spoke with Valerie who offered assistance, but no hibachi. After several minutes I was told they're still looking. After 15+ minutes, Kaz (sp?) arrives and tells me they don't have the item in stock. I showed him the email message and bill (I paid) for what was supposed to be the last item in stock. Katz was apologetic informing me that either the website was incorrect or the item was simply not available. Poor, poor customer service. No making amends or offering a similar item to purchase. This review is for the Fairwood Ace Hardware Store. I have noticed that the negative reviews are all quite a few years old. I have shopped here for about 40 years and this store is at its best the last couple of years. I consistently get great service and am happy with price and selection. Melissa and Mark just spent quite a bit of time with me to help figure out the correct way to put the drip system parts together. I had them as the box seemed to show but that was wrong. I hope they keep up the good work because I like shopping here since it is close to my home and easy to find items on the shelves. read more

Tried to use a $5 ace reward and a $5-off coupon on a $45 purchase but was told I could only use one. The coupon specifically states it can not be used with any other coupon EXCEPT the ace rewards offer. The teller threw the card back to me and said only one coupon! I have been a customer for 30 years and never worried about paying a little more just for the convenience of having the store so close to home. Went in to have a spare house key made. I was greeted immediately upon entering and asked if I needed help. Someone came right away to accommodate my request and made sure that the key was the correct one and duplicated exactly. (It was, because it worked perfectly!) Rant: I have never been so upset... My husband and I went to the Fairwood Ace Hardware next to LA Fitness to get this spot cleaner (Grandma's Secret Spot Remover) that we seen on Tik Tok. He went in while I remained on the phone with my mom. Remind you, it was the first time he went into Ace today and the first time he has went in within a two week period. He came out and was so upset and was on the phone with the police ( who said they could not do anything). He said he was kicked out over accusations that he was stealing. I went in and spoke to the supervisor Zack who said he had the right to refuse service to my husband because an associate "Claimed" that stuff was missing and that my husband had been in the store twice already (which was incorrect), Zack stated that he had no camera footage of my husband taking anything, He did not ask my husband to empty his pockets, he asked my husband if he needed help and when my husband said yes he told him he had to leave his store. It just appalls me because several other people were in the store at the time, they were not accused or kicked out, there was no proof of anything, only accusations that because stuff was missing and that my African American husband had to be the one who took it... but why couldn't it have been anyone else? We have a nice 5 bedroom home here in Fairwood, my husband is a cell tower climber who works 12 to 16 hour days to make sure we live a more than comfortable life, and has never stole a day in his life nor has a criminal record. The fact that we still have to deal with this type of stuff is humiliating and hurtful... Needless to say we will NEVER be supporting ACE Hardware again!!!! read more

I am very new to the area and I went to this store several times and the service was excellent. I bought a beautiful Mandevilla plant in the spring and it bloomed all summer. I am trying to hold it over as it doesn't do well in our zone. They were very nice about me asking where some things were. I will go there for my needs in hardware and for plants too. Customer service here is kinda non existent, which is weird, cause there are a lot of employees. One poor guy stood at the back counter for at least 10 minutes waiting for someone to come help him. The store is located in a strip mall in Fairwood, next to LA Fitness. There is a large parking lot that is usually fairly empty, so parking is easy to find. I think we were greeted with a faint "hi" as we entered the store by an older gentlemen who couldn't look up from what he was doing to actually smile and say hello for us to hear. We were able to hear him ask if we were looking for something and we said back "no we are just checking things out as we just bought a house." No response back to that. Mmmk. The store is rather large and pretty well stocked. Lots of products; garden supply, hardware, lighting, tools, bbq accessories, door locks, a paint center, auto care...etc. Pretty much a one stop shop if you are doing some quick remodeling on your home. Prices are a little high, I would honestly suggest going to Lowe's or even Walmart over this place. Not many people shopping in the store...hm...wonder why......... Hopefully they have some good deals on plants as I would love to get my garden going this spring! Maybe I'll have a employee who would be interested in helping me out with picking things out...maybe. read more

Great, personable customer service. I'm confused with the previous reviews saying otherwise; I've always had positive experiences here. If there is a product I can't find, they are more than happy to walk me to where the product is located. They helped give me advice on different mildicides (I was a store manager at a paint store, and I was impressed that they had additional information than what I knew at the time). I understand that prices could be higher than at a Home Depot or Lowe's, but their location and service is greatly convenient. read more

No fork lift, no swarms of people in orange or blue vests, just simple store on the block. Prices aren't the cheapest and no one greats you at the door or thanks you for coming in, but for the time you save, driving, parking and standing in line it's a good alternative. Selection limited, prices not the best, service hit-or-miss, but convenient to get to if you have a quick-fix at home to attend to. If you live on Benson Hill/Fairwood and don't want to head into Renton (Lowe's or McLendon's) or Tukwila (Home Depot) then Ace might be a good choice. Also, if you need a pretty basic tool (hammer) or off-the-shelf type common replacement part (toilet seat) then Ace will suffice, Staff seem friendly but I question their expertise and knowledge base compared to competitors. So many bad experiences here it is hard to cite just one. Always painfully slow at checkout and much higher priced than HD or Lowes. This place is so close to my house, I often make the mistake of thinking it will be "better than last time", but I always regret it. So, this place was always a last resort. There is an employee who is always there and is invariably rude or just annoying. I remember asking him if they carried tulip bulbs. He said "uh, I don't think so." I had to suggest that if he didn't know maybe he could find out from someone else- which he did, begrudgingly. The last and final time I went in to that Ace for paint, I asked this same guy to mix it for me. He made a big loud deal asking me why I'd want to mix it with anything. Then he asserted that you don't mix paint, you shake it. (Yeah, you shake it to mix it, genius) I've never run in to anyone in any paint department that when asked to mix paint, wasn't bright enough to deduce that I want it mixed with itself. read more

This is my friendly neighborhood hardware store, and I stop by often to pick up this and that, when I don't feel like driving to a big-box hardware store. Yes, it's expensive. No question about that. But again, there are so many times when I just need to pick up one or two things...a roll of duct tape, flower fertilizer, one tool, etc. In these cases I will happily pay a bit extra for the convenience of not having to leave the neighborhood. Additionally, everyone at this Ace is super-friendly and helpful. Lastly, we got a FANTASTIC deal on a Noble fir Christmas tree here a few weeks ago. I'm talking at least $20-$30 less than the supermarket pop-up tree lot across the street, and at least that much less than other stores were selling the exact same trees for. If they keep it up with the bargain-priced trees, we will be getting ours here every year! read more

Very high prices, seems to be a 25% mark up on top of everything compared to the big box hardware stores around the area. you would think they would make it up in customer service but they fail in that aspect as well, they are not friendly and do not go out of their way to help. i was so excited to find a hardware store just about 7 blocks from my house. it makes running out for a tool in the middle of a project so convenient. that said, i will not be shopping here ever again. everything is twice as expensive as it is at lowe's or home depot. i bought a scraper at lowe's for $18 - an identical tool is $30 at ace. i'm willing to pay a little more for great service, but honestly i've had exceptional service at both lowe's and home depot and not one person at this place even said hello to me. oh, and the garden center??? um, more like the equivalent of a dirt lot. a few sad, sad little plants, nothing more. read more

We just moved from Sammamish to Fairwood Greeens. The Sammamish ACE wasoutstanding, with superhelpful people and decent prices and sparkling cleAn. So, needless to say I was super excited to find an ACE store almost in front of my house. Boy, what a disappointment this store really is. I wish the Sammamish owner would get his hands on this store and turn it around. Staff is not to be found and if you try to make eye contact with somebody, they avoid you. Also there is an extremely annoying person in there who wants to get my name and such for marketing. Every time I go in there and decline their offer and I am being asked over and over again. Prices are higher than the big box stores and the Sammamish store. I try to avoid going there and mostly buy bargain sales because the atmosphere is in the store is very uninspiring and uninviting. No "Hi" or "Thanks for coming in", hardly eye contact again.... Oh well, I think they could double their sales with more staff and train the staff in customer service. Keeping the store cleaner, could not hurt either. I guess if you own 20+ stores, you don't pay attention to these reviews anymore. Aloha...... read more

I can usually find what I'm looking for and they're in a convenient location. Despite other reviews, I've always been able to get help when I've asked, and they were very courteous, taking me to the item. The checkout service is terrible, and the employees there are very disinterested to completely distracted (today I was kept waiting while the cashier was on a phone call right in front of me). If this was not convenient, I probably would not shop here. I have not noticed their prices as being high, but usually just stop by for the little odds and ends. If I truly need something and price is a concern, I usually go to McLendon's or Home Depot. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Customer service is, well.....non-existent. One guy who works there hates to be bothered with customers, so he just walks around the store not answering his earpiece. He knows NOTHING about any products being sold there, and certainly does not want to help customers. I live only a few blocks away from this store and each time I go there I think it is going to be better than last time....yeh, that never happens. Somehow they lower the bar on customer service each time I walk through the door. Horrible experience recently that I will write about later as I am still fuming over the whole ordeal. Finding someone to help in this store can be very difficult and trying at times, but on occasion I have received great advice. Often the employees demeanor comes across as intentional avoidance, which could be the result of all the dumb questions I've asked of them in the past.. (unfortunately employee turnover does not seem to be an issue here) The selection is very limited, and the prices border on the gouging point. Don't purchase something here that your kids may need in Pullman. If the stuff doesn't work, or you bought the wrong item, you can't return it in Pullman. Well, at least you can't return the item you purchased at the Pullman ACE and return it in Fairwood. (Haven't actually tried the other direction... but assume that would be the case...) I don't mind the prices or selection--you get what you need when it's convenient. What I do mind is being asked to join a drawing *every time* I go in. The drawing is sponsored by a construction company that does not offer services I can use. There's so many times you can say "no thank you."
