Very disappointing experience. I placed an online order, and the Ace Hardware website said it would be ready for pickup in 15 minutes. I arrived about two hours later, but my order still wasn't ready. I waited at the front counter for another 15 minutes before someone finally came to help. Then, without any prior notification, I was told that my order had been canceled. Meanwhile, the money had already been taken from my account. I spoke with the manager, but she showed no concern and offered no helpful solution. If Ace cannot fulfill an order, the customer should be notified immediately--not left waiting at the store. I don't go to hardware stores often, but when I do it is to this Ace Hardware store. The store is located in a shopping complex that no longer is super popular, so there's always parking. The store itself is small, well maintained, and a solid selection of items for any apartment dweller. I've bought keys here, tool boxes, nails, and other small purchases. I find their customer service to be very solid 90% of the time. I never am talked down to, and typically approached kindly. There was once a young employee would pop up every three minutes to ask my friend and I if we needed assistance but I passed it off as him being very bored and hoping that there was something he could do. The store seemed overly staffed that day in December with more employees to customers by 5:1. Everything was immaculately faced on the shelves that day! It is an easy store to navigate with competitive prices. I have always gone to the hardware section so I can't really speak to the plants. The cashiers have been pleasant to funny to me. Once I bought a novelty drink - one that proclaimed it tasted like Thanksgiving - and asked the cashier if she had tried it. By the end of her describing the product I was laughing so hard and opted to take her advice and only buy one bottle fully expecting to hate it. Her description was 100% accurate. read more

I've shopped here most every time I'm into a project. It's a fine general hardware store. Usually when I have a question, the associate physically points me in the right direction and I figure it out from there. Today is the first time I've met Emma, who helped me find the stuff I needed. She really went out of her way to make sure I had everything I needed and that it was just right. I didn't have to guess or buy extras (just in case). Nuts and bolts, metric & SAE, clips, furniture hardware, plugs, stoppers, electrical connectors, zerk fittings, automotive push rivets and scrivets...so much more. 10 times more than the box stores. Only thing is customers rarely put items back in the correct space, so 1.) Double check your selection, and 2.) If you can"t find your part in the proper slot, check the surrounding slots! They manage to cram lots of good stuff into this Ace. They have a surprisingly good paint department as well as a good selection of fasteners and hardware. This is the closest home improvement store to my house, so it's a place I often go to get that item I forgot at the big store. But I have also found some things there that are some of my favorite tools in the garage. Excellent grilling department on the right when you enter the store. Of course the big box stores are less expensive, but it's nice having a good hardware store nearby. read more

I bought a ground cover plant here that I really liked. So, I decided to buy more. When I returned, the garden section looked really neglected with many plants on their last leg due to significant under watering. Of course, the 3 remaining plants of ground cover all appeared to be dying from underwatering followed by overwatering. I asked if they'd discount them and they flat out said, "no... they'll perk back up with watering (the plants were already saturated)." I asked if they had any guarantee of this or return policy if they were, in fact, too far gone. Again, they said no. Bottom line... don't waste your time with this subpar garden center and it's subpar management. Both Lowe's and Home Depot will discount and guarantee plants... not to mention, both have more customer-centered management and store policies. read more

This particular store does a few things better than Lowe's and Home Depot: 1. General, in person customer service. Most times I have been in, the staff are proper and usually don't dish out an attitude. 2. If you know what you're looking for, such as shovels, rakes, ladders and general around-the-house or garden items, the items they have in stock are better than what you'd get at a Fred Meyer or Target yet on par with say the old Sears stores, Home Depot, etc. 3. The aisles make more sense than not. Whatever aisle you go down in this store, for the most part, the grouping of items make sense. For example, door hinges, screws and wood are in close proximity. Cones, safety vests, glasses and anti slip boots are in one section that makes sense. Why would you go to the big box stores over this store: 1. You're a contractor and have a fairly specific and demanding list of materials you need. This store is more like a general store of hardware stores. 2. You like to have the options of a huge variety of power tools, outdoor garden, lumber and plumbing/pvc. 3. You're looking for appliances or some in-depth help in paint where a Sherwin-Williams would be more ideal. Where this store needs improvement the most: 1. Telephone customer service - Mind you, it's not automated like you do get at Lowe's or Home Depot and yes, it's fair to not expect the staff to know everything-everything but I would agree with other reviewers who claim the store associate taking the phone call can at times be hasty, rude or unknowledgeable to which when you end up going to the store in person, you end up finding what was supposedly not there. But overall, if you're looking for a simple, neighborhood hardware store in need of a rake, garden hose, Christmas lights, this is a good establishment worth visiting if you live nearby. read more

People at this ACE Hardware location are very friendly and knowledgeable, though it has not been my experience I would rather pay a few pennies more and get great service than getting lost in a Hardware Super Store. Had what I needed. Supe RUDE service. I came in to pick up an item I ordered online. Stood in line at the front to ask where to pick up. Watched the clerk help the gentleman in front of me. As I stepped up to the register, the clerk abruptly said "I'm not open." No sign, no apology, no bother to direct me elsewhere, just completely abrupt and barely looked at me. Then, so stood in another line to actually pick up the item I ordered. The man at the service counter in back didn't even look up at me. Literally, he kept on doing whatever paperwork he had in his hands, didn't bother to look up, and asked "what do you want?" Excuse me, but I am YOUR customer. I supported YOUR business. On top of that, (not that it should matter), but I'm clean, I showered this morning, did my hair, I'm wearing the required face mask in the midst of COVID, and I think my outfit actually looks put together. Like, what reason on earth could I be giving you to act like a jerk?? Is this business unfriendly to all women who frequent their store? What's the deal? The least you could do is make eye contact, address me respectfully like any good business person would for a patron of their business, and treat me like a human being. I chose NOT to purchase the remainder of the items on my list, specifically because of your poor customer service. Called up a few places 1st week June, trying to get a Weber grill for my husband as a Father's day present. I know timing was tight but is doable. Locked down to Ace @ Renton Highland. Store Manager, Duane was helpful and warned if their warehouse do not carry this model, it might take a little time. Never did I imagine it will take month and a half before the assembled unit come to my house!! During the process Duane (Store Mgr) and Jeremy (Assistant Mgr) kept me informed. It was great customer service and the team was courteous and easy to work with. At the end, Jeremy even offered to give me discount for the extended wait time. Great people and convenient location. Obviously convenience is a huge value this Ace offers - for many things it's just not worth a 15-20 minute drive to the big box stores. My favorite thing here is the bulk screws/bolts/nuts/etc. I always find what I need, you can test the fit, and only get what you need. While the store is small compared to Lowes or Home Depot there's a surprisingly broad selection of stuff to handle your day to day needs. I've found the staff pretty helpful on the whole. read more

It's a chain hardware store, and it does that a-ok. It's not one of the behemoth locations taking up 5 square miles, but rather a grocery-store sized outpost intended for locals to be able to pop in and pick up that duct tape or screw during a quick home project. It's really great for that. It's not great for: - things you might only find in the massive locations. You're not going to pick out your new water heater or price out your kitchen remodel here. - staff advice has, for me, been poor. I asked about getting a stripped screw out, and the guy told me he didn't know, maybe just try harder. TRY HARDER?? We put a man on the moon 40+ years ago and you're telling me you think there's not a solution to this? (FYI there are tools or you can use a rubber band). - there's ALWAYS a person standing up front trying to get you to enter a drawing for windows. Please, stop that. read more

Called today at 9:30am Saturday, 4-18-20 , Got a lady on the phone and asked for the Garden dept, then a man picked up the phone, and I asked if they carry garden seed potatoes, the man said "NO we don't" and slammed the phone down, I was hardly done talking, and wanted to ask about another garden item that they may stock. Zero consideration for PPE for staff and customers. In my past 3 visits the vast majority of customers had no masks. The majority of employees had no masks. Employees within a couple of feet of customers having conversation with customers and no one had a mask. It is businesses like this that are ensuring this pandemic lasts longer and kills more. The CEO of this company must buy into Covid still being a hoax or that not wearing a mask is a "badge of honor." It is a badge of ignorance and this company is endangering the residents of Washington State. Perhaps he/she is just interested in profits instead of customer/employee safety. I like their customer service here. In fact, I love it. Some raccoons got into a fist fight with the lid of my garbage can, leaving garbage everywhere, pissing off my neighbors, and our lid in pieces. While mourning the loss of our lid, and under the pissed off glare from our neighbors as they pick up dirty diapers from their yard that the raccoons disposed of, I went to Lowes where they informed me that I had to buy an entire trash can, and that no one in the state would sell me just a lid. I refused to believe that - and am so glad I did! Pranced over to Ace, and without a problem or blink of an eye, they quickly helped me out, and sold me a new lid for $2! Yay Ace! Yay me! It's really nice to have a hardware store near us considering the other ones take a little effort. It's great for very good items. The bad news is you need to know what you want and where it is because the help all the way from the beginning until checking out is abysmal. I love that I have a great hardware store just minutes from my house! The staff are friendly - not not nearly as knowledgeable as McLendons. Ace is great for those last minute things that you've forgetten - or to get keys made. I had to get several keys made and a car air fresherner for my trip - but they were out of keys so I ended up at the Fairwood Ace. Oh well! The store is still clean and the staff are helpful and quick. read more

We went there to get deck paint. Seems simple enough. Apparently it was a real inconvenience for the employees, and I feel bad about that. I should have picked a better time. The older employees clearly don't want to be there. Actually there were only 2 young kids at the checkouts (one named Ty) who made it bearable. The others treated each other badly in front of the customers. One of the friendly young employees was helping me find a brush. The paint guy (long hair, 20s) rudely yelled at him to get back to his customers. Um....I'm a customer. Or maybe I'm a ghost.....either way, totally inappropriate. They knew NOTHING about the subject of deck resurfacing, and eventually we found something we thought would work. At least the older lady at the paint desk (long hair) knows how to multi task. She gave everyone dirty looks while trying to figure out how to add pigment. She conjured an especially good one when my sweet check-out kid asked her to put my quart in the mixing machine for me. We finally walked out of there with a 4 gallon bucket. We then had to return to buy the proprietary roller we didn't know we needed. It was not enough to cover our surface as they promised so we called back a few days later. "Hi, we need to get another bucket of the Rustoleum Restore 10x paint for a second coat." "Umm....what is it?" "Retore 10x...? made by Rustoleum....?" "Oh. Restore. We don't carry that line." "Yes you do. I just bought 4 gallons of it last week." "Ummm..." "Can you go look? It's in the paint isle with the other deck paints." "Umm..." ((tells him where exactly to find it in the store)) ((finds the spot for it)) "We don't have any." I could go on.... unless management changes, we will be avoiding Ace in the future. read more

Great little hardware store... Here are the Pros and Cons: Pros: You can come in here and find almost anything you need. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a very LARGE selection of screws. I especially like the chrome screws and nuts selection Cons: They sometimes have a lady in front that try's to get you to enter a drawing and signs you up for free in home estimates. After a couple of years of seeing that on and off... on and off... its gets very old very fast. I once was putting our baby crib together and needed a couple extra screws. Called them at 8:40 to check what time they closed, they said 9 pm. So I jumped in my car and ran over... got there at 8:53 The lights were off and the doors locked. I saw one of the guys in the front and he let me in. The lady manager in the back started scolding him why he let me in. I told them hey! its 8:53 I called in and still have 7 minutes left! She then said... oh well our registers are closed and we have no cash... I said no problem.. I have a credit card... then she said well our computers are shut down...I said listen... I don't care... there is a sticker on the front door that Said's that these doors must remain open during business hours. I told them I need these screws and that I would come in the next morning to pay. She agreed and I did come in next morning to pay and complained to the store manager. He was nice and apologized. Just be careful when it gets late they sometimes tend to close a couple minutes early... if you will be stopping by a couple minutes before closing for a last minute part.. make sure to call and let them know you are coming! While this store is convenient and very close to home I am really tired of the people that are standing just inside the door trying to get me to buy something or sign up for something. If I was interested in being "attacked" by a salesperson I would stay home as they usually come to my door. I have avoided this place and gone the extra 1.5 miles down to Lowes just to avoid these "salespeople" ! I hope that ACE will review these sites and stop putting people at the door. read more

Wow, what an amazing customer experience! I went all over town looking for a compression adapter/connector to fit my newly purchased gas valve for my patio table but no place seemed to have it until I came to this store as my last stop, not having a lot of hope. The store manager, Bret, was such a great helper who went out of his way to make sure I had what I needed. The solution wasn't a simple one but he spent the time to think it through and came up with such a genius alternative for my problem. We've been coming to the Ace Hardware store for ten years, they are so informative and helpful, plus the prices are comparable to the box stores in the area. I enjoy walking in and know that Steven is going to help me get just what my husband wants. Its spring now and I feel like I'm there daily getting this or that for home projects. I feel almost like family there and the manager has always treated us fairly and given us good deals on other items when they are out of the sale item. I was really impressed with the customer service I received while dropping off screens to be repaired Mike was cordial, informative and helpful In telling me that I could get screens replaced / repaired there. Then , to my surprise I picked up the screens and met the screen repair guy named Arden ( Ardon ? ) he was professional, courteous, and did an A Plus job . I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and Exceptional customer service , both by Mike and Arden . I hope their manager sees this yelp . This is just the kind of friendly neighborhood business that makes you feel part of a community, and I just have to share the experience I had today. I locked my keys in my bedroom (long, boring story there, so I'll skip it). I still had the key codes from the boxes that this lock and two others that I bought at Ace, so I went in to see if they could use the information to find me a key that fit the locked door. There wasn't a match, but Bret the store manager, gave me a box with what must have been hundreds of keys in it and said I could take them home and try them (!!) I did. Not a single one fit. Another of the door locks used the same key, and that door wasn't locked, so I took the doorknob back to the store and asked if he could make a key from that. Wow! He painstakingly took the lock apart and carefully measured the pins and then matched the cuts one at a time. It didn't work, but he wasn't willing to give up, so he tried again, and this time it worked perfectly. And after all that, he didn't let me pay him for his time and effort. Thank you, Ace Hardware. Who wouldn't choose to shop at a store where you get friendly, above-and-beyond service like that? read more
