Small but a very mighty airport. The staff here I felt was extremely personable and helpful. The planes coming in and out are small and your luggage is loaded under not inside with you because of how small the aircradt is. You will be able to find your luggage on the tarmac when you exit the plane. The airport is small, clean, well lit and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The have an excellent restaurant called Tailwind that you can grab a drink or a drink and some food while you wait for your ride. Braden whipped me up an amazing burger with white cheddar cheese and Moriah whipped up an awesome Margarita. Thank you. Both were very yummy and fast! The restaurants, restrooms and gift shop are all well marked so you can't miss them at all. Again small airport not much to get lost in. Really refreshing to fly into an airport that notices you as a traveler.

Cute little airport! Super easy in and out. (Reminded me of Flagstaff airport way back when I was going to school at NAU.) One terminal, one TSA checkpoint. They are quick and efficient. No jetway, so if the weather is not ideal you will have to deal with it while boarding your plane. Plan accordingly. They have a small bar area inside if you want to grab a beer or drink while you wait. They also have a water bottle filling station too. Rental car area is right next to the building! When you return, just pick an appropriate rental brand spot and let the agent inside know the number.

Tarmac. White tent is the boarding gate lol.

Its a very small airport as expected. Only one place to grab a bite That I remember. Only a small homestyle cafe/gift shop featuring quick breakfast foods. A few vending machines scattered all around. Saw zero employees around except TSA since its mandatory. Outdated decor with grey colored carpet and wooden panels as walls with decor such as fake bushes/leaves. Not your typical commercial airport, but a unique one id say. Weirdest part was the boarding gate was just a large white tent with this brown old carpet inside. The smell is quite fragrant. Many Scattered chairs and a few vending machines. Overall, a definitely interesting airport with the small town feel. Don't expect to see your usual food/drink kiosks around.

My home airports are Chicago O'Hare and Chicago Midway. Durango - LaPlata County Airport could fit at the end of a single terminal, where I come from. But don't start thinking that I'm complaining. In fact, just the opposite. I love going through this little airport. Reasons to love Durango-LaPlata County Airport. 1) TSA screening takes 10 minutes. Really. Even when there are a several people in front of you. BTW, there are never more than several people. 2) You don't have to walk half a mile to your gate. You walk, maybe, 50 feet. 3) The ladies' bathrooms are clean and well-stocked. 4) There is only one luggage carousel. It's impossible to run around for half an hour, trying to figure out where United has switched your luggage. It's all in one place. 5) Car rental agencies are opposite the luggage carousel. You may have a bit of a wait to pick up your car, because the person in front of you is asking for things like a map of the Dallas-Ft. Worth airport. I've used Enterprise and Budget, and each time -- maybe because I'm prepared with all the proper paperwork? -- I'm in my car in five minutes. And returning is just as easy, if not easier. 6) There's a small restaurant. 7) The seats in the waiting area are comfy. 8) It's in Colorado! The only complaint I have is, if your flight is delayed for any reason, there's NOTHING to do! Not even a TV screen in the waiting area. You can buy a few magazines in the gift shop, but unless you're prepared to entertain yourself for hours, you are screwed.

I have had pretty good service during most of my trips through this airport. It is very small which makes it easy to get around. The security line usually is not very long and there are places to get food in the airport. I plan to travel through here in the future.

Undependable. Understaffed. Don't fly out of here unless you're cool with them cancelling your flight and leaving you stranded.

After expressing frustration with our delays, having to call multiple times to ask for an ETA or really any info and being hung up on, he arrived in a van and threatened to cancel our ride and make us unload. Just because one of us expressed slight anxiety about missing our flight and their delays, which they did acknowledge, by the way. I mean, to stand there and tell us all to unload just because of a VERY polite remark about the delay, when we have a pregnant woman and a child in a stroller with us, that's just down right inhospitable. If you're in Durango I can't tell you not to use this company because rideshare in the area is very limited, all I will say is beware and have backups in mind in case Darren the psychotic schizophrenic has another episode. WTF DARREN!!! GET A GRIP!!!!!!!

It's definitely more expensive, but you're paying for a premium experience: the best unobstructed views, attentive service, and nice extras like a souvenir cup, a bag, and a muffin to start the trip. Our server, Liam, absolutely made the experience, funny, engaging, and on top of everything the entire ride. Drinks are about $10 each, which felt reasonable given the setting and service. That said, the experience wasn't perfect. Our train was scheduled to leave at 9:15 AM but didn't depart until 10:30 due to brake issues. As a result, our time at Cascade Canyon was cut significantly, We only had about 30 minutes instead of the full experience. We were given a $10 drink credit, which was appreciated, but it didn't quite make up for the lost time. Even with that hiccup, the scenery was breathtaking and the overall experience was still memorable. A tip: if you book the Alamosa car, go for the two-seater tables (we were at 19 & 20). The four-seaters feel cramped and take away from the experience. Silverton trips don't start until May 2, but I imagine that route would be incredible as well. Overall, despite the delay, we had a fantastic time and would still recommend it, just hoping your trip runs on schedule!

I felt like I was constantly looking at a painting. It was awe-inspiring. You can open up the window next to your seat and I really encourage you to do so to get the best views and video on your phone. If you go in winter, wear LAYERS, think big coat, sweater, beanie, gloves. You will spend an hour outside. The train is heated but not super warm because as I said, people open their windows. There is a train car that is open air so you can also go there during the ride to get even better views if you want though it does get crowded. We chose a COACH seat because it was half the price, but I do think in the future that I would like to try first class. The seats in coach are pretty small. It's like a bench seat so two people can fit in them, but you're going to need to sit next to someone that you wanna cozy up next to. In first class, you sit in a dining chair that is padded, but then has a wooden back and you're at a table. There is a concession car, but you can also BRING your own food, your own snacks, and your own drinks, which is great. When you arrive in Cascade, you get an hour to walk next to the river and view the mountains there. It's not a town so there's literally just picnic tables and the river and the views. But I found that spot to be really gorgeous. The river is like a blue green sort of turquoise color and it's so beautiful and peaceful to view. Right when everyone gets off the train, everybody will be taking videos and pictures. I encourage you to WAIT about 30 minutes after everyone else has gotten what they want to take pictures of. And then take your videos and pictures when no one else is doing it. THE TRIP: You go from seeing the town of Durango to a gorgeous lake on your right if you're on the right side of the train when it's facing forward to the mountains on either side of you to the river all along the train. I was sitting on the right side if the train is facing forward, and I found that to be the BEST SIDE because even though you get to do the other side on the way back, you get the best views of everything on the way up. There is this one place where the train has just a drop off and the river below it (the most iconic part of the ride) and you get the best views of that if you're on the right side going up.
