My most recent trip was fantastic. I was met at the check in desk with the information that my flight coming from Denver was late. I thought I would be stuck at the airport because I would have missed my connecting flight. But the airport workers assured me that they were going to try and make up the time lost. It was nice to see people so passionate about their jobs and committed to ensuring that we all got on our next flights. Easy rental car pickup/drop off. United staff works hard hear, but there seems to be lots of issues with leaving on time (in my experience). Security is never too long. Could use better food options other than vending machines. A breakfast option/cafe would be ideal. read more

The TSA employees in this airport are inconsistent and rude. My United Flight was cancelled and I had to pay for an extra day of expenses out of pocket. I went through security twice with the same bags. I was stopped once and everything fine the other. These TSA employees act as if they are the top law enforcement of the land. This power trip is unnecessary. It is better to drive to another airport. Durango is great place to visit, but stay away from this airport. The airline agents and rental car personnel act just as rude as well. read more

The United staff was courteous and helpful, but I don't fly often and there are new rules in 'the fine print'. Boarding was to begin at 10:55 for an 11:20 flight. It's Durango so I got here 10 minutes before boarding begins. I'd printed my boarding pass and pre-purchased my checked baggage fee so I thought it should be easy peasy. Wellllll, they would let ME on the flight but my baggage was 5 minutes late to board! It IS printed on Boarding Pass (not Baggage ticket) that you must check your bag 45 minutes before departure. THERE WERE THREE OTHER PARTIES IN THE SAME PREDICAMENT! We all had to reschedule flights for later in the day or the next day. I wonder how many other people have been unpleasantly surprised. At American Airlines their rule is 30 min before departure and they can sometimes be flexible. The desk person was nice and helpful for rebooking; my issue is with United for not making this VERY IMPORTANT fact a bit more IN YOUR FACE! Oh yeah...great photo of the train at the baggage carousel! And the gift shop has lots of neat stuff...kudos to their buyer. read more

Sweet and tiny airport. Here's how to deal with it: If you need to check your bag, arrive early -- at least an hour -- but not too early. Returning your rental car will take about 15 seconds -- and you walk inside the terminal from the parking lot (no shuttle needed). You'll wait in a stagnant line as the staff/flight attendants finish up cleaning the plane, but the people you'll be flying out with will likely be very friendly. Once the staff arrives, everyone gets through -- so do reassure any first-timers in line. Your carry-on luggage almost definitely won't fit in their teensy prop plane overhead compartments, so make sure you get the proper tags so you can pick it up right after you land, rather than at the baggage claim at your layover destination (ouch). If you time it right, security will not take long at all, though they are thorough. So waste a little time drinking up the $5.50 microbrews at the little restaurant on-site (most of the tables are next to windows where you can eye the size of the line). Admittedly life in NYC left a permanent sense of "wow, this is cheap" when I'm anywhere outside of it, but I'm pretty sure that's the cheapest airport beer of ANY kind I've seen. Not to mention that the Durango Hop Hugger IPA is pretty fantastic. Can't speak for the food (we doubled down on some Himalayan Kitchen beforehand) but you won't be able to eat much besides Fritos/Cheetos/Doritos once you go through security, and you certainly can't get beer, so I'd do that first. They do have Keurig coffee for purchase. Arriving is a total breeze. Walk off the plane, pick up your bags at the ONLY baggage claim, locate your rental no less than 45 feet away, and take off for SW Colorado! read more

Most people were nice and helpful. Frontier Airlines check in was less than helpful tho. We drove in from Telluride for a very early flight. The guy said we were 2 minutes late and wasn't going to take us. We were there at 6:15 for a 7a flight. I guess boarding time was like 6:23. Thankfully we got thru. That 7a flight never took off until 7:38! read more

Only food inside security is a vending machine so if you want something better, get there early to order from the counter.

Small, maybe three gates. Shouldn't be that hard to get through but when they don't open security until less than an hour before the flight the convenience factor goes way down. With very limited dining options not getting through security makes showing up at the recommended two hours early just not fun. read more

I know you only have 2 choices when flying out of Durango, go with United! Frontier lost my baggage and cannot seem to find it anywhere. Good luck calling any of their numbers and getting an actual person. You have to leave messages at any number or if you get an actual person on the 800 number, they will let you know where to call to leave a message. Approximate wait time to get to this actual person is around 30 minutes. It's been the most ridiculous flight/luggage experience I have ever encountered, and I fly often. NEVER AGAIN, unless by some miracle they make it up to me for the insane hassle. I'll edit if so, not looking good. read more

Just went through security. The TSA agents are very rude. One went through my bag for "additional screening" and didn't even zip it back up. The other let some people go through with shoes on and others had to take theirs off. Sounds like a great idea to pick and choose who gets screened thoroughly and who doesn't. read more

Honestly it's a pretty nice airport for a small building. Except when you rent a car, if you don't fill it up at hertz it's $10 a gallon. I'm not sure if that's what it's like at other rental car places but I just thought that that was ridiculous. But overall it's a nice airport with nice polite funny people working there. read more

For a small airport it isn't that bad. The lady at the sandwich shop before TSA was very nice. Word to the wise you NEED TO PAY FOR A CONFIRMED SEAT!!! We had to rerun our rental car early to save a day of charges and in the three hour wait they have asked for volunteers to take a later flight on every flight and we have seen no takers. Unfortunately it seems someone is getting booted every flight. PS they just asked for 16 volunteers on our flight! read more

I prefer smaller airports and Durango lives up to their friendly attitude. They look to accommodate all who come through seeming to go above what they are required to do making the trip a pleasant experience. I have only dealt with the United, Frontier and Avis staff, but they always make my trip a pleasant experience. The TSA folks are friendly and personable, a breath of fresh air, compared to the larger airports around. Great job!!! read more

First of all I am from a small town with a small airport. I have no big city bias. This airport is slow, mismanaged, understaffed and completely aloof. It took us 2 hours to check in our media bags because the employees doing so were undertrained. Not that I give a a rats ass but some of the employees at the front desk had brown stains on their shirts. It's called detergent pal. Our first day of being delayed was due to a mechanical error. That was around 2PM saturday. They didn't call for another plane to replace the broken one till 3pm sunday. I love Durango but the airport is hurting severely. read more

Wow this is a small airport, I realized upon arrival that I am used to international airports and this was not one. You have to walk down to the ground and into the airport, I can't remember the last time I did that and was glad I had my coat accessible. Arrival was easy, one of the cleanest airports I've been to and everything was very timely. Departure was also very smooth. I had to remember to keep my ID and ticket with me going through TSA which is opposite of the big airport training I am used to. It was slightly confusing which flight was leaving when but the ground crew seemed to have a good handle on making sure people got on the right flights. Overall a pleasant experience. read more

Don't get too holier than though because your hometown airport is bigger, badder and has more restaurant options. Let's face it, this place really doesn't have a food option besides the small cafe, but for a "puddle jumper" airport, what more do you want? Quick rental car returns, quick gate check-in and short TSA lines. Sign me up, time is money. read more

This is one of the best airports I have ever been to. There are only a few exits and it is never crowded. It is never slow and they keep the airport clean. The flights are rarely delayed and everyone is nice to you. I recomend this airport for anyone nearby who has to leave or return somewhere. read more

I write this review for those of you (like many of my unfortunate former plane mates) that are scheduling connections: consider pushing your connection to a later time. Context-wise I feel bad giving this airport such a low rating... It's likely not responsible for the flight plans/schedules of the few airlines (united express, frontier, etc) that service it. Having said that, the flights connected to this airport apparently rarely follow their intended schedules. Since moving to Durango 6+ months ago, I've heard many (almost laughably consistent) comments from coworkers who fly to Denver on a regular basis that flights are frequently delayed/cancelled in/out of this airport. I assumed they just had bad luck with weather or other random issues... My initial experience: my flight out of Durango to Denver landed 2 hours late (due to a "paperwork issue"). Huh, bad luck maybe?... And THEN, my flight back has been pushed to tomorrow AM. Luckily this is a work trip and my employer will somewhat reimburse me for most inconveniences. Sadly, the poor schedule rumors, at least in my initial experience, appear to be true. Plan accordingly! read more

This is a terrible place to have to fly out of, the least little weather change results in canceled flights. I. have tried to fly into Durango 2 times and both times there were equipment problems and I had to cancel/change flights. Just spent 48 hours in Denver trying to get home via this airport and there was equipment problems with no planes coming or going and had to drive 6 hours home. Come on, update your equipment. I recommend going to Albuquerque and fly Southwest. This airport does't even deserve 1 star. read more

WOW, we arrived at the airport at 11:10am for a 11:55am flight, went to the Frontier Kiosk as no one was at the desk, the kiosk told us to go to the gate for boarding passes, we waited in Security Line for 20 minutes only to get re-routed to the Frontier Desk, where we were and advised that no one would be back until flight departs. No more flights out for the day, had to pay an additional fee to change the flight to the next day. Tried looking for flights on other airlines to meet our connecting flight in Denver, NOMINAL fee but cheaper if we changed the WHOLE flight. I think we will fly to another airport and rent a car from now on. read more

Be careful eating at the only restaurant in the airport. The help seems to follow safe food handling practices, but on a recent trip I saw the owner (whose name I later found out is "Neil") come in a reach into the bread bag with his bare hands, help himself to the prepared food in the trays and then reach with his BARE hands into the pickle container, put it on his bread, fold it in half and walk out!! I've contacted the health dept. and letter to the local paper, but haven't seen it as yet. With practices like these "Neil" could spread disease all over the country from the Durango Airport. read more

an easy airport to fly into and out of, make sure you rent your car in advance, they have a shortage of rental cars while I was in town.

Sadly the staff here is used for checking people in and unloading the bags. Some of the front staff is less than kind. They could use some customer service training. Unlike Southwest whos people own the company United has union employees and they act like it. Poor service, but they do fly jets otherwise I would totally fly Frontier they are the only other airline to fly out of Durango. read more

Never choose Frontier Airlines!! My flight from Midway to Denver was delayed 2 hrs - no explanation ever offered. Naturally missed only flight to Durango at night (arrived @10:15 PM) and was told no hotels available so spent the night in DIA waiting for flight next day at 5:42 PM on Great Lakes to Cortez instead. "Customer Service" for Frontier did give me food vouchers and suggested I sleep in the chapel 'cause it's quieter - 4 other people ended up joining me from other flights there. Ultimately went standby on Great Lakes (9 passenger plane over the Rockies in a hail storm) to Cortez @2:43 PM. Frontier originally offered to book me to Durango on their planes 2 days away - and still without hotel accommodations - more time in the chapel for me! I chose Great Lakes options to not sleep in the airport - lesser of all evils. Frontier needs to leave Durango/LaPlata Airport for good - fix your financial situation, or fold completely! read more
