Duran's has been a staple in our family for generations. My dad grew up in Pico Rivera in the late 1960s, and his family would always stop here for pan dulce. Fast forward to today (2026), and we're still supporting this local business with the same appreciation. Now that my grandparents are older and can't get to the bakery as often, Duran's has become part of our routine. My dad always stops by on his way home to Whittier--often after jobs in LA, Echo Park, or West LA--passing through Pico Rivera to pick up my grandfather's favorite elote and my grandmother's favorite tortuga. When I visit my parents in Whittier, I make it a point to stop here too--bringing pan dulce for my grandparents in Pico Rivera before heading over. The quality has remained consistently great over the years: fresh, traditional, and made with care. On top of that, the staff is always friendly and welcoming--you're consistently greeted with a warm hello, which makes every visit feel familiar and genuine. Was planning on going next door to Taquerte after having sampled Playa Mar, but Duran's Bakery caught my eye and smelled wonderful. Fresh assortment of pandulce with most of the standards and regular coffee and café de la olla. I ordered café de la olla, cream filled sugar covered empanada and a sugar covered elote. Holy smokes the empanada made me do a double take it was so delicious and packed with cream. The elote was also very good. Left with a happy tummy. Will be back whenever I pass through the area...or maybe make a special trip. read more

Very delicious sweet bread can be had here. My personal favorite is the "elote" both regular and strawberry.

We were denied to stay in the eating area due to our service dog. We did show service dog ID and was still denied service. We did explain the law to them but still denied the service. We were told that the owner did not like dogs in the dinning area. Not a good place if our service dog not allowed. We will not ever come here. Don't recommend this place. read more

Little hidden gem . These past few rainy days had me wanting some pan dulce and a champurrado. I definitely found my go to panadería. I walked in during the morning rush so there was plenty of people getting their pan on , the staff is super friendly the atmosphere was warm and inviting. 5/19/24 Located at the nearest cross street Rosemead & Beverly Blvd. this bakery looks like a local favorite. Needed to grab something to bring for dessert or "merienda" for my aunts birthday celebration. Was hoping for a choice of a cake but they didn't have any but have a great selection of pan dulces. The lady at the counter, Claudia greeted me with such a warm smile that I felt appreciated a customer. I selected quite a bit of different pastries. I a couple of bags which totaled $19. Not bad. I have been coming here since about 1994 when I was introduced to Mexican cuisines by a wonderful girl I was dating. She took me to places that were the best and how to taste for good and bad Mexican foods. Even though I was living in Pomona and surrounding cities until I enlisted in the Army, I would even make sure I came here when I was on leave. Then I moved to New York but never forgot this place. Pan dolce in Brooklyn and Queens is no comparison. So I would bring back pan from Durans Bakery. I shared my story with the folks at Durans, and I was mentioning how awesome Italian and Jewish pastries were in New York. Then, every month, I would bring back those pastries with mozzarella balls and bagels to share with my friends and family and, of course, Durans bakery. When I returned to NY, it was with In n out burger and durans who always packed the boxes with care for the long journey back. Then 9/11 happened. Wasn't as frequent, but I managed to make visits to durans and bring to New York all the pastries I could and vice versa. I moved back to California after Iraq and military in 2005 to Ventura County, where i met my wife. I had introduced her to this place. She fell in love with the goods and the folks in the back. Always yelling out PRIMO, PRIMO to me, when I walked in. Had that VIP feel. But that's loyalty after 20 years of patronage. Then Covid happened. Our diets changed, and the family got older. Kids were in school and had school stuff and sports. Our time wasn't there for a while. We went to Aquarium of the Pacific for a family day. On our way home to Westlake Village, I suggested to my wife to stop by Durans. She had a huge smile and responded,'porque no', and here we embarked on the 45-minute detour I knew EXACTLY where I was going. Parked, went inside what I knew was Durans Bakery from 5 years prior. Now the place has a restaurant. But thankfully, the pan dolce was still there. Some skinny kid was helping me. I had started to order a LOT until my wife explained to the skinny kid about NY and the years I have been coming here. Then he replied, "You're the one? We heard about you." I was slightly taken aback by the 'celebrity status' ( it's the little things in life). Then he introduced himself as the new owner. Well, he explained to me the change of ownership and his vision. I had stopped my order from 10 lbs of goodies to just a small box. I said I would try a little in case the taste changed. He said it hadn't because he didn't want to lose his loyal customer base. I understood, and that's a great business move. Don't fix it if it ain't broken. He offered me a taste of chilaqules, which I declined. (I have been traumatized from a previous relationship by chilaquiles, so i never had it again.) Well, after a 45-minute conversation with the new owner (the skinny kid and if you're reading this, forgive the description). We had departed on our way home. Sunday morning, the pan dulce was gone. All of it. GONE. this was as good if not better. The pastries his mom made.. I think he said mom, I could be wrong. They were flan and some other refrigerated goodies. But they, too, were amazing. Durans Bakery did NOT disappoint. This is the moral of the story. This long, long story. Please visit Durans. They will not disappoint. Their success will continue. I will still be loyal and be on the receiving end of that success by enjoying the best Pan Dulce I have ever had in my short life. 30 years and still counting. My dad who is elderly used his card there and was charged multiple times after for different charges. Someone who is behind the cashier is keeping info and using it. He got his money back from bank but the banker told them it has been happening to a lot of customers from Durans. Use cash only if going here for that reason. ‼‼FRAUD ‼‼ IDk what's going on at this place financially. I would do zero if it was an option. I went in to buy bollio in November, ever since I have been getting notified of a fraudulent purchase!! Today, me, and my wife, I must say, had a very incredible breakfast she had the Chilaquiles with egg and I had something on the menu that I can't even pronounce the name but it was so delicious. The service was outstanding. I'm going to show a picture of what I ordered. Hopefully somebody could help me name it but the location is very cool back, they have a bakery Connected to the restaurant, which I thought was pretty cool, so if you wanna take home some Mexican pastries they have it this location I must say was pretty awesome. Bread was good, but I hate that I got suckered in to try the chilaquiles. I was an idiot to think that people waited that long line for a reason. Just to find myself paying over $50 for two orders of chilaquiles with added protein and two drinks. The chilaquiles were cold, the part that was luke warm was only due to the heat of the fried egg. I asked some strangers, that seemed confused as well, if they were consuming cold food like we were and they said yes. Everyone I talked to was first time goer's, didn't get the pleasure to speak with returning customers. My family moved from Pico Rivera 80 miles away to Hemet a year ago and we have no bakery's that are close to Durans so my mom drove the 80 miles for Masa for TAmales and Pan Dulce it was well worth the drive and I get top notch customer service I love this place read more

I just left the bakery I'm so disappointed the bread was hard as a rock so I asked for my money back. Very disappointing.

For God knows what reason, my family has always ordered the tres leches cakes from here. It's a decent cake but at this point it's more tradition rather than us even eating/liking the cake. The cake itself is dense compared to other tres leches I've tried. It's sweet but not overbearing. It's an alright cake. Now, the decoration...man oh man. I had always disliked their style so this time around I asked for plain. I emphasized that I wanted a super duper plain cake. No ruffles or anything like they usually do. I also asked (multiple times) to not put so much of that whipped cream frosting cause it's literally half cake and half whipped cream otherwise. Sadly, even after me asking several times and confirming with the cashier, they still gave me the exact opposite :( Anyway, their pan dulce is good and their customer service has been awesome every single time I've been there so I am giving an overall 3/5 stars. read more

So disappointed!! I made an order for Christmas Eve went twice because to my pastry order for 2pm pick up. Only to arrive at 2:30 pm and be told that the baker had just arrived and my mini conchitas had not been made. I was so upset. I was not the only customer affected. Another customer had order and paid for tamales in advance only to be told that they no longer had her tamales. There were 5 other customers waiting for their order to be filled. It seems they had been waiting for a while. I The girls at the counter were apologetic but the baker was just blatantly laughing in the back as if he didn't care. I don't know what was going but I won't ever return. They lost my business and I'll never refer anyone to this place. What a waste of my time and gas. Totally disgusted with their service. It saddens me to have to write this post as I have been coming here 40+ years with mygrandfather to coming here almost every morning for some fresh sweet bread. One of my favorites is the strawberry filled elotes. Not too many places have them with the filling, most are just plain. But almost every time I go in to get these whether in the morning or in the afternoon they are stale. The jam inside is consistently dried out. Not like a day old either. I know because I'll get them and have them for a few days and they still would taste fresh. I've mentioned to the ladies working the counter and they go to the back to get me fresh ones since the ones up front are old. Please just sell the day old stuff at discount or donate to charity. The service was good and friendly and the place smelled amazing, as any bakery should. That aside; the tamales were not very satisfying at all. I got a half dozen for $9.00 which isn't bad. I got 3 of the red (pork) and 3 green (cheese). The cheese tamales were halfway decent but the red tamales were extremely dry and had zero flavor. I bought 40 pieces of pan dulce for my church food court. Someone told me to come here. I know this place is known for their pan dulce so I gave it a try. The first thing I noticed is the quantity of pan dulce and cookies. Omg!! It's a lot!! If you are looking for variety and quantity this is the place your looking for. They also sell tamales. A bunch of other products and food is sold. I tasted the pan dulce and I give it solid 4 stars. My favorite pan was good but did not taste fresh. It lacked softness and size. It was on the small side. Not all of them were small. Just the one I like which looks crescent shape with yellow and sugar on the top. The lady was helpful. No one was there when we went so we got out order quickly. She was nice enough to put it in a box for us. I really appreciated that! read more

It saddens me to leave this review. I'm leaving two stars out of respect to the original owners. I've been coming here for over 30 years. My first question is: Is there new owners? Did they sell the business? For the past 6 or more weeks that I have been going in on Sundays there is barely any bread on display and what is there looks sad. The conchas look like a blind person put them together and they are hard. All there bread looks and taste like there day old bread. I haven't seen a familiar face since like for ever, really! I think it was last Christmas the last time I saw the usual lady's that are there on Sundays . For the prices on the bread, like past reviewers have said. I think they make it up each time you go in. I walked out one time and paid $12 for 10 pieces of bread and when I got to the car I had to look into the bag and count the pieces again, Wow I was blown away. I thought maybe she made a mistake but NO this happens every week I go. It's no longer worth coming here, I have to find another location that cares about the quality of there product and also charges correctly. If the Duran family did sell the business, the new owners should be honest enough to post a sign "under new management ". I believe in supporting our local businesses but not when the product doesn't meet what we pay for it. So Sad!!!!! read more
