I don't need my hand kissed or the barista to bow down to me, but just act like its not effort to put a smile in your face. I am spending $20 + for a couple of coffees and cookies. There's a reason so many of the chains, and some smaller businesses, have gone to "Welcome in" and "what are you up to today." I appreciate what they're trying to do - they want to offer a friendly experience; but it actually bugs me, because it comes across as disingenuous. However, all you have to do is say "Hi - what can I get you" or something like that and make it sound like you mean it. I guess what I'm saying is, act like you like your job.
