Located on the outskirts of Hanover, Clair's has been a cornerstone family restaurant for the area since the 70s. Back in the 90s, I have fond memories of going to Clair's with my family for Friday night dinners. The restaurant itself has mostly left unchanged from what I can remember, but in a good way. The bright yellow sign out front, the ice cream cold display case at the entrance, to the charming booths with the removable partitions between each just play into childhood memories of simpler times. With how old the overall restaurant is, everything is well maintained and very clean. A testament to the hard working staff and devout ownership. Service: 5/5. We went on a Saturday night around 6pm for dinner and had a wonderful service.My party of 4 arrived to a fully packed restaurant, however we were fortunate to get a booth table after a brief 5 minute wait. The restaurant does not take reservations, but you can have Google call the restaurant to check on the wait time, a nice convenience. Our waitress was outstanding from start to finish. She was very friendly and did an excellent job keeping our drinks filled. Food came out punctually and piping hot. Overall, Clair 's staff has their service down pact and truly makes you feel at home. Food: 5/5. Exactly how I remembered. The core menu has remained mostly unchanged from what I remembered coming as a kid. From your classic turkey and gravy to Salisbury steak, all your classic family restaurant favorites are here. On top of that, they have daily specials that have a more modern/seasonal twist on the classics. At the time of my visit, they were serving Yuengling beer battered haddock which I decided to order. The fish was perfectly fried and had hardy portions. Speaking of portion size, each dinner included your choice of 2 side items from a dozen or so items. Highly recommend the breaded zucchini as well as the fried corn fritters, both of which were childhood favorites of mine that lived up to my nostalgia hype. Dinner prices range between $10-15 per platter, which is very reasonable for the amount of food you receive. Don't forget to save room for dessert, as Clair's dishes up lovely hand spun milkshakes and sundaes using Hershey's ice cream. We came for light fare ahead of seeing a show at the little theatre that's almost across the street, and it was hopping! Loads of ice cream options and my favorite, malted milkshake was available. They let me swap the base ice cream flavor too, it was heavenly, I could barely finish the small. Lots of classic dinner options, we went with appetizers-sweet potato fries were piping hot and had excellent options. I will be trying corn fritters the next time I'm local. You can sit at the counter without waiting in line. The wait staff is excellent, asking after options, and very responsive. Classic diner vibe, easy to hold a conversation. If you are in the Hanover, PA area and would like to have a good "home cooked" meal, then Clair's is the place for you. A real Ma&Pa type of place which may be off-putting to some, but for locals, it is the place to go for a reasonably priced meal that is as good or better than other similar restaurants in the area. Great food (especially the broasted chicken) with good portions. Service is quick, courteous, and flexible. Don't like something? No problem, it will be exchanged for another. Clair's does not have a website. If you search for it, you will be sent to Clair's in Morgantown, PA. However the Hanover Clair's does have a Facebook page which is easy to find. The only thing that could make Clair's better would be if they were open for breakfast. Alas, only lunch and dinner. Stop by, you won't be disappointed. read more

Food & Service were great. Atmosphere in Clair's was great also. Great food at a good price.

What a pleasant surprise. It's not fancy, but it's a throwback to decent diner/family restaurant style food. Seems well prepared, fresh ingredients and definitely not buying the same crappy Sysco crap that every other place in the area seems to buy. Very clean and beautiful diner in the middle of nowhere. Staple in the Hanover area, everyone knows Clair's. They are known for their broasted chicken. It's been years since I have been here until a couple months ago. Always loved the chicken and frankly it's the reason you go, unless you're a local and just want cheap usually good food. Now the original owners closed it down and it was reopened so don't know if anything changed but to me the chicken just doesn't hit the mark like it use to. Don't get me wrong it's still good but it's not amazing like it use to be. Mine also came out a little cold like it was sitting around. I was there with 3 other people so maybe mine was done first and was sitting around waiting for the other food to get done. My daughter got the spaghetti which she gets at almost every place that we go. She couldn't eat it, she said it was that bad. I tasted it and the sauce had almost no taste and the noodles were over cooked. The waitress was real sweet and saw that she wasn't eating it and took it back to the cook to fix. When she got a new plate it tasted just the same so she wouldn't eat it. The garlic bread that came with it she loved so the waitress who felt real bad about her meal went back to the cook and made him make her a bunch of the garlic bread and brought it out to my daughter. She also took her meal off the bill. We didn't ask her to do any of that but she showed she really cared. We will be back and trying other stuff on the menu. My parents who were along really like their food. read more

40 years and and of course a few changes along the way. Service is almost always good here. Locally owned and family valued. Broasted chicken is staple stand by you can always count on. Threw the years I found some hit and miss's but the menu has enough that will satisfy my tastes. The place is clean and it can easily be wait to get seated. My husband & I had wonderful meals at Clair's. If you are hungry for home-cooking meals this is the place to eat. I had Broasted Chicken and my husband had the roasted turkey. The service was quick and our server was pleasant. The food was hot, very good and reasonably priced. If we lived in the area we would be regulars. read more

When we're out on the bikes it always nice to find local family restaurants with comfort food. Camp food is good, but a home cooked meal now and then while on the road is great! My husband and I recently moved to Hanover in September and have been exploring different local restaurants. After discovering Dutch Country restaurant, we really haven't ventured beyond that restaurant. However, one day last week after suffering through sinus congestion for 2 days, all I wanted for dinner was a chocolate shake! So because we read fairly good reviews on Claire's ice cream, we decided to give them a try. The first thing that put us off was the waitress informed us that iced tea only gets one free refill and there are no free refills on soda. I have NEVER been to a restaurant where drink refills are limited especially iced tea other than on the boardwalk in ocean city! Secondly, I decided i wanted a burger but noted that lettuce, onion, and tomato on burgers were all an additional 25 cents each. It's kind of off-putting to be nickle and dimed for everything extra. I ended up ordering a patty melt and deep fried zucchini. The zucchini was good but some dipping sauce would have been nice. I would have asked for some but figured I'd have to pay xtra for that too. Patty melt was good but the burger only covered two thirds of the sandwich. Now about the shakes. My husband got raspberry which tasted like pepto bismol and the chocolate was nothing to write home about. Disappointing for home made. The only positive thing i can say is our waitress was very sweet and attentive. Probably won't return. read more

This is very close to Lake Marbug/Codorus State Park. In my opinion, and I have eaten at diners all over the East Coast, the South and parts of the Pacific Northwest, Pennsylvania has THE BEST diners in the world. Clair's is no exception to that rule. I didn't have the honor of trying the famous fried chicken, but I had a wondrous breakfast here with GREAT service one morning after waking up at my campsite back at the park. I know, it's sort of glamping to come out to a diner, but I just had to try it! Glad I did! It was so heartwarming too to see all the older folks from the community come in who knew each other, and the servers instantly knew what to bring them. Just a good downhome diner. But they do have some of the amenities us cityfolk would expect too, such as fresh sausage, wheat toast, etc. I'm very sad that I forgot to stop by and get some of the homemade ice cream on my way out of PA! You absolutely need to leave your campsite and give Clair's a visit while you're in the area. read more

The food was fine . It took a little while for getting specials. Waitress was nice. The cashier was rude. They asked if we wanted to leave a tip , I said yes. She asked how much ( the meal was twenty ), I said 4 dollars , she then said only 4. 4 dollars is twenty percent I almost said make it 2 but it wasn't the waitresses fault. They open at 11am and only a few days a week. No longer serve breakfast. Their ice cream is prepackaged Turkey Hill and no longer made in house. Their boasted chicken is about the only item worth getting. read more

This place has a cozy atmosphere, great service, food and ice cream! I went in one night on a Saturday to pick up a call ahead order, when I arrived I was informed their credit card machine was down and that's all I had. The waitresses each through some money in to pay for my meal and send me on my way. I was surprised and very thankful because they could've easily told me nothing we can do but I will forever remember this place for that. read more

Stopped in for breakfast and we were not disappointed! Biscuits and sausage gravy were delicious as was the French toast my wife had. Waitress was super friendly and their prices are very reasonable. Only one word describes this place, horrible! First, we waited at least a half hour for our roast beef dinner and the place was not even crowded. Then, when the food arrived it was horrible, and cold. The roast beef was not real. My wife's French fries were raw and cold. The gravy was ice cold with no seasoning. In retrospect, I am surprised I did not vomit over this putrid offering. Never again, my advice: stay away from this place, it is horrible. read more

My parents stopped here for lunch approximately 2 weeks ago. They were seated by the hostess and waited 20 minutes. Not one waitress came to their table to wait on them. There were only 3 cars in the parking lot. My Father said the waitresses were looking down at their phones and laughing. Not paying attention to customers. My parents got tired of waiting and walked out. They didn't even receive ice water. It's a shame that older people are not respected anymore and ignored. Not great food. Our soup was cold. The microwave is right out by our booth. Server threw it in the microwave. Canned soup, I am sure. Was charged $3 to substitute a vegetable for stuffing?! Was not told by server that my $5.25 meal went to $8.25 to substitute for stuffing? Will never go back. Food not good. So this is a nice family restaurant. Expect comfort food with lots of breading. There are a few non carb heavy items. The grilled haddock was amazing! Baked potatoes with tender skins...priceless.
