I heard that this restaurant was nice inside and had a very good Sunday buffet brunch. Called for a reservation around 11:30 am and got a table for 12:45pm. I am so glad we came. The building is large with plenty of parking. It has a medieval-vibe from the outside, although there's a plaque inside the front door saying the building was built in 2000. Once inside, it's fairly dark and continues with the old-mansion type atmosphere. There are lots of items hanging from the walls, older portrait photos, chandeliers, etc. very cool space. We were told at the front desk to go upstairs for the brunch (there is an elevator!). Once upstairs, we were greeted and sat in a corner table for two. The placement of the table was perfect, as there were a lot of families there for brunch, and I felt like we were being given an opportunity for more quiet. I noticed that the layout of the room placed tables for two and other smaller tables toward the outside. The server greeted us warmly and explained where things were and invited us to get started. The food: outstanding. The crab dip was thick from cheese and full of crab. The Maryland crab soup (didn't try the cream one) was full of crab and veggies, and the broth was flavorful. The salad was fresh, the chicken and salmon were both well prepared and delicious and the crab omelette was full from crab. There's also the traditional breads, eggs, potatoes, bacon and sausage. They all looked good, but I didn't take them seriously with all the other foods there. I went to get prime rib snd was given a huge piece freshly sliced. Outstanding. The outside was seasoned perfectly and the inside was moist and flavorful. You can get creamy horseradish, horseradish alone and au jus, which you serve yourself. The desserts included some pies (including key lime), cooked apples, brownies and there's fresh fruit at the salad bar. Service: Outstanding. Our server kept our water glasses, iced tea snd coffee filled and took our plates promptly. Bloody Mary - was $1 and I think it's a darn good Bloody Mary. Not fancy, but tasty. We came here looking for a new place to go for buffet brunch. We live over a half hour away, but do plan to come back for other occasions. It's a nice atmosphere with a very classy vibe, but good for families. Everybody seemed to be having a good time and enjoying themselves. And the service was excellent. The brunch ain't cheap (it's $46.95 per person), but there's outstanding prime rib, a real crab dip and two types of legit crab soups, along with other entrees (the salmon was so soft and flavorful - I was jealous because I can never get mine with such great texture), as well as traditional breakfast fare and a salad bar. Worth a visit. The restaurant's regular menu looks pricy, and some of the items on the regular menu are available on the buffet (prime rib, crab dip, crab soups, the chicken and the salmon).

Absolutely amazing! Properly the best food and dining experience ever!! Our server Heather keep everything moving and was an absolutely the best server. She had several tables and yet we wanted for nothing. Her timing was impeccable and the service was without fail. Yes a little pricey but worth it especially considering the generous portion sizes. The quality and taste exceeding any of my expectations. 100% next level! I had the crab and filet, it was the best I've ever had. My husband had the New York Strip with crab imperial and my daughter the chicken fettuccine. Everyone had the same reaction "that was the best thing I've ever had"!! We will for certain be returning we have already decided exactly what we're gonna get next time. Thank you so much Heather for such an exceptional experience, truly made my birthday!!

Great ambience, perfect for a family gathering or a date night. Food is also very good but prices can be quite high as seafood and beef prices have gotten expensive. Coming by here due to positive reviews and the need for an early dinner after the half-way point of a long drive, I ordered their French onion soup and their chicken parmigiana with fettuccine pasta. Both were excellent and the chicken parmigiana was a large size. It also came with twice-baked potato and a Caesar side salad as well as complimentary bread. All of good quality. I unfortunately couldn't finish it all but I made a good attempt. Overall, a quality place for a night out, but prices are high for seafood and beef. Chicken is more reasonable on the wallet and the food quality is still good.

The creamy crab dip was the best dip of any kind I've ever had. It was so creamy and flavorful. The crab had a sweetness to it. The cheese on top added a good sharpness to the sweet flavor. The bread with cinnamon butter was really good too. If you want the lobster you have to order Dutchs seafood platter instead of the regular seafood platter. That's a mistake I made. The seafood platter was disappointing for the price point. Paid $72 and the shrimp was ok, good size tho. The crab cake was average. Get tartar sauce for it. The imperial crab was really good tho. That said the dish. The service was really good. Everyone was really nice and helpful. Did feel a lil rushed at the end tho. The restaurant seems like a home and feels very cozy.

Everything was amazing...food, service, ambiance. The food was so good. I had the Fillet Oscar as my entree as well as tried a few different appetizers.... Oysters, crab dip, and the bread with honey butter. I could eat just a loaf of that bread! The fillet was cooked perfectly and topped with a bunch of crab. We ended with four different desserts, but the peach cobbler stole the show. There wasn't anything uniquely special about it, but it was perfect...not too sweet, peaches cooked perfectly, so good.

Husband and I came here, for the first time, on a Sunday for their brunch. We also ordered two mimosas. Balance came out to approximately to $100 (including tip). What's hot - Quality. Delicious. Everything that we tried was a good flavor and not overly seasoned. This included their prime rib, chicken, eggs (with and without crab), crab soup, potatoes, rolls, and desserts. Their prime rib is nicely seasoned, especially at the ends, and not too salty. Their eggs are soft and tender. Their soup is a nice consistency and has plenty of ingredients (I.e., it's not just liquid broth). Their desserts, particularly their bread pudding, is soft and tender, and not too sweet, which we appreciated. - Menu. Very good variety. There appears to be something for everyone, possibly even vegans. For example, they have a salad buffet as part of their brunch, and vegetable pasta. I really like the selection of seafood (primarily crab) as part of their buffet brunch. - Layout. They have an elevator to accommodate customers who need physical assistance. Inside appears to be pretty spacious with a high ceiling. My husband and I really appreciate that sound does not travel easily and we can have a conversation between us. - Service. Reservations are encouraged, which they explain on their website. As such, I called ahead for a reservation. I originally did not leave a time for my reservation, when I left my message. As such, they called me to confirm what time I would like. They also called me the night before, to confirm my reservation. The day we arrived went very smoothly. Their staff appear to all work very well together, are well-coordinated, and work very smoothly. Anything we asked for was provided in literally a couple of minutes. We were not left waiting. As another example, my husband asked their staffer, who was in charge of their prime rib carvery, if he could get a couple of slices that are more well done. Their staffer obliged nicely, had a couple slices sent to the kitchen to be grilled a little extra, and brought us the slices with their horseradish cream. Whenever a table was finished, I saw the table cleaned very soon afterwards and set up again. During the time we were there, I rarely saw an empty table just sitting there with dishes and food. I'm definitely impressed with their service. - Parking. There is a decent size parking lot in front, which is helpful. - Price. Price to value ratio for their weekend brunch is excellent. Drinks include tea, coffee, sodas, and juice. Mimosas are only an extra $1. What's not - Quality. Some of their foods were not very warm and you could taste the lack of freshness, like their buns, garlic bread, and a few other dishes. That appears to be the tradeoff for a buffet. - Price. Their regular menu appears pretty pricey. For example, their buffet brunch, which includes prime rib, is approximately $43. A prime rib dinner alone is approximately $70. - Location. This is an hour drive for us, so it's inconvenient. If we return, it would be for their brunch only, because of the price to value ratio. Final Answer Would be willing to return for brunch.

I searched for a good restaurant to celebrate my birthday and stumbled upon this gem. Everything was great, from the service and the ambiance to the food. They have different dining rooms named after family members. Each room has a distinct look & feel. We had a little wait time before seated, but nothing too long. We were finally seated and greeted by our waitress, Skylar. She was delightful, helpful with food & drink selections, and attentive throughout our dining. Everyone was friendly, polite & down to earth, from the staff to other restaurant patrons. 10 out of 10, I would recommend! This is now a favorite spot for me!! Since this was our first time at this restaurant, we ordered several appetizers and drinks. We had the following: For drinks: Sparkling water Ginger ale Chocolate Martini - tasty Pineapple upside-down martini - tasty Appetizers: Cream of crab soup - I loved it!! Fried Zucchini - I was not a fan, and I love zucchini. They were not fried hard enough, and the inside seemed like they were sauteed too long before frying, so they were mushy Tempura fried asparagus - fried perfectly & was tasty Spinach dip - was good! Hot & spicy shrimp - were tasty, not spicy to me, but had great flavor The fried calamari - was good! For our entrees, a few of us went with the Lighter fare (smaller portions of the same great dinner options) The crab cake was paired with two sides. One person had the French-cut pork chops, and I had the Dutch broiled seafood platter, which came with a Lobster tail, crab cake, crab imperial, shrimp, and scallops. I paired it with a twice-baked potato and Caesar salad. We all enjoyed our meals, but we took most of it to go because we were stuffed with appetizers. Pros: Love the decor Delicious food Ample parking Tasty drinks Great attentive staff Cons: Fried Zucchini (may have been an off night)

Sunday brunch at Dutch's Daughter was fantastic! The food was amazing and the service was just as good--Amir, our server, was friendly and attentive. I especially loved the crab soup and the crab omelette--both were absolutely delicious. My only concern was with the plates, which were on a warmer that was way too hot. Both times I grabbed one, I nearly dropped it from the heat. Aside from that small issue, Dutch's Daughter is a must-visit spot if you're in Frederick!

Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. We all did the brunch buffet and it was totally worth it. The crab dip and the creamy crab soup were the best I thought out of the whole menu. There's a variety of options from pastas to French toast. The prime rib was okay the horseradish helped give it more flavor. The mimosa, key lime pie and the peanut butter pie are out of this world. Worth it if you're in the Frederick area looking for a good brunch spot. read more

Not a good experience! Salmon was very fishy to taste. Our Dining room was dark and freezing. The manager would not lighten the room and told us that's the way it has always been and the management won't change it. 20 minutes later another patron complains about the same lighting and they listen to her and magically change the policy and open the shutters on the windows. I will never return. read more

I have been to this restaurant several times now so a review is in order as a first class choice to consider when looking for a place to dine in Frederick Maryland. I enjoy the down stairs part of the restaurant because it is a more laid back experience with nice large comfortable cushioned chairs. Service has always been impeccable. Plenty of choices on the menu, specialty cocktails, good dessert menu and daily specials. Extremely clean and enjoyable ambiance throughout the entire restaurant. Elevator available if you're not able to take the carpeted stairs. Bathrooms are upscale and perfectly maintained (see photo) A little pricey, but for what you're enjoying I felt well worth it. This is our go to restaurant for special occasions, birthdays and anniversary. Was lucky to get seated without a reservation last Sunday and enjoyed the crab imperial with Caesar salad and twice baked potatoes, our usual. And my husband had the raw oysters which he said we're excellent. Again we left full and satisfied. read more

On Sunday we visited Dutches Daughters in Frederick,MD and they did not dissappoint! Everything was great down to the service, our server Brittany was amazing. The food was GREAT! We had a party of 12 and they accommodated us very well.I didnt get a video but the bbq meatballs, fried Zucchini and the crab dip were 10/10, the drinks were 9/10 and the calamari was 8/10. The inside was definitley more upscale and the lower level referred to as "the dungeon" was nice as well! They have alot of space to accomodate parties of all sizes .We will definitely be returning back. read more

We prefer the more casual atmosphere of the downstairs "Dungeon". Food is pricey but excellent. Seafood is fresh, baked potatoes are large and hot. Shrimp cocktail is large-sized shrimp. Many wines are available. Servers are attentive and discreet. read more

We been here 4 times for the Sunday brunch. The first couple of times it was excellent. Then it started going downhill. Yesterday the food quality was much lower than ever. Also, the buffet selection is limited and never changes. It may just be my opinion, but chipped beef gravy should be illegal. They really should switch to the traditional sausage gravy. 3 stars because our server, Chris, was excellent. We won't do the brunch anymore, but the regular non-brunch dining, I'm sure, is still excellent. read more

A great place to celebrate. We had a party of ten Friday night to celebrate a birthday. The service couldn't have been better. Skyler did an incredible job timing out each course. This restaurant was wonderful! The crab cakes were amazing as well as the scallop appetizer. We sat on the rooftop patio which was so nice this time of year and still felt like an intimate setting for a date. Our server Brandon was amazing. He was very attentive and didn't make us feel rushed out. Overall a great experience. It's a little expensive but the perfect special occasion restaurant. read more

I really can't say enough about our first experience at Dutch's Daughter. I took my wife there for brunch and we were both blown away by the atmosphere and the service. The crab cakes were great BUT the one thing we enjoyed most was the Sweet Potato muffins!! I unfortunately can't remember the name of our server, but he was very accommodating and friendly. We are planning on going back this weekend, and I'm planning to taking my wife back there for Mother's Day. The food was the best and I highly recommend them for anyone who want to dine in a clean, friendly restaurant that's not expensive. You won't regret going there, but be careful, you will get hooked. read more

First timer and wasn't sure what to expect but the dinner was fantastic. Had the prime rib cooked medium rare with fresh asparagus - cut like butter. The au jus and horseradish was also a welcome treat. Try the Dutch's Manhattan - house blend bourbon that's very smooth. Service was excellent too. read more

I giving 5 stars but there crab cakes need massive help very bland and the one I got was burnt on the bottom! I sent it back and Seth our waiter was so sweet took it away and I ordered something else while waiting he brought me a Shrimp cocktail which was delicious there Shrimp dishes are delicious the Shrimp salad grilled bread is amazing my favorite I even got one to go! We order a lot and we sat down stairs in dungeon next time I would sit outside if nice out! The Bar is very nice love the seats very comfortable especially if you gonna be there for awhile like we were! Seth was so nice and accommodating! We were party of 4 and one friend got the 22 Oz Boneless Ribeye it looked delicious he ate every bite I would get that next time! I love there appetizer menu really nice choices! My hubby got the Chicken parmigiana and said best he ever had it was Huge! All entrees come with Salad and a side it's a lot so you definitely get your money's worth the homemade bread they serve is delicious too! A lot of places don't even serve bread anymore so that was a nice touch glad they still serve bread! Most places look At you when you say where's my rolls? And act like I am crazy & say we don't serve bread! Lol I don't eat bread at home but when I go out to eat I want to get fat! Lol Great place to eat go there you won't go wrong! read more

Food is top notch! We were there on April 5th. Tristan waited on us with excellent service. We had the cream of crab soup and the delicious muffin bread they serve. I had the crab cake and she had the chicken. Very very good. We have not been there in 2 years. Prices have gone up, but still the best restaurant experience I have had in a long while. read more

If your into rich food this is your place the food is very rich and expensive! I got the Maryland crab soup and there was barely any crab in it was mostly vegetables. The service is probably the best service I have ever had! They were all very nice and would refill your drinks without even asking like that's impressive. Omg it was so fancy it has 3 floors the basement which is the bar the main floor and the second floor. Everything was just amazing looking I don't have much to say about it! read more

We came here for the Sunday all you can eat brunch. Price is about $38 per person, coffee, tea and juice is included. Mimosa and bloody Mary are $1 per. The food selection is a bit bare, for that price I would've hoped they had more selection to choose from. However any dish that has crabs in it they do give a generous amount in it. The desserts could've been better, it honestly tasted like ready made desserts they just put out. For the price and selection I would not be coming back. Service wise, everyone was very friendly and nice. Actually I may come back and try the dinner menu. read more

This place is very popular in the Frederick area and they get very busy but their service is always excellent and the food is very good. The prices are on the higher end for the area but the quality of the food makes up for it. Interior of the restaurant is a bit dated tho. Overall a great spot for special events. Wonderful atmosphere. Food was very good. Presentation was on point and excellent for each and every dish. Very beautiful interior. Professional staff. A bit of the up and coming Michelin star chef vibe. Still friendly if not a bit status conscious. Dress played a role in service to some degree. It was just ok. It has a feel similar to a country club. Food wasn't bad but also not as good as I had expected. Always heard wow comments about Dutch's Daughter but the experience, food and drinks didn't match the hype. Also, everything is VERY expensive. We've been to other places with very similar menu items for much lower cost so it's hard to find a reason to come here and spend more when you can get the same quality for less elsewhere. read more

History

Established in 1984.

Dutch's Daughter was established in 1984 and was originally located at the Frederick VFW Country Club. After 15 successful years, Eileen Gideon along with her husband, Joe Gideon, built our current facility in 2000. The name of the restaurant came from Eileen's father's nickname, Dutch, given to him in World War II. Each room of the restaurant is dedicated to family and mentors. Our newest addition, Dutch's Dungeon features a pub atmosphere along with flat screen televisions, Bubinga wood surfaces, and granite tables that characterize it as a more casual atmosphere.

Meet the Business Owner: Eileen G.

My career in the restaurant industry began as a server at age fifteen. Fourteen years later, I had the opportunity to take over the lease of the restaurant at the VFW country club. Soon after, my sister and I borrowed ten thousand dollars each to invest in this great business venture. We then faced the challenge of naming the restaurant. Because we desired our name to uniquely represent our relationship as sisters, we chose Dutch's Daughters' Restaurant. Dutch was the nickname that was given to our father in the army (WWII). Within the first year of the business, my sister pursued marriage and elected to leave the business. While choosing to stay and continue the business, I changed the name by dropping the plural in Daughter's. After fifteen successful years at the VFW, my husband and I decided to build our current facility. This decision has presented many challenges, but overall it has been worthwhile. Hard work, honesty, and loyalty have made Dutch's a success.

After hearing so much about the Dutch's Daughter we finally had brunch at the Dutch's Daughter today and for $33.95 per person we were not overly impressed with food-to-price value as we did not think we got a lot of high caliber foods for the price we paid. For the price for $33.95 I would expect to have caviar and smoked fresh salmon. The desserts looked like pre-made store bought pies-not homemade but the food that was on the buffet was fresh, tasty and plentiful. The prime rib was very good. The staff was attentive, plentiful, generous with extras and very professional. The Restaurant is well run and organized and has a lot of ambience. The bathroom have cotton towels to dry your hands on. We will try Dutch's Daughter for dinner instead next time and do not plan to go back for brunch. read more

From the initial booking of the room to the final cutting of the groom's cake, everything was handled beautifully. Danielle made sure all our questions were answered leading up to the party and John, our server for the evening was outstanding. He handled 14 people with speed and attentiveness. He was terrific! We had our wedding here, and it was FANTASTIC! They are well known for their food and crab cakes here, but sometimes banquet food can be different: cold, dry, whatever. IT WAS DELICIOUS! The servers were true professionals of their trade, the bartender was a gem, and several of our other wedding vendors had been recommended by Danielle, our catering person, including our photographers, Studio C and our DJ (unfortunately I forgot his name!). We had a private setting on the second floor, which was perfect for an intimate gathering. On business trip. Went with a group. The filet, prime rib, crab cakes and crab soup and potato soup were second to none. Even the Caesar salad was exceptional. Our waiter, Joe, was personable but professional. I personally had the surf and turf with filet and lobster. Usually you get a tiny filet and tiny lobster tail but here the filet was full size and the lobster tail was huge, and sweet! With surf and turf you may choose your beef and your seafood. Dutch's Daughter does not disappoint! The food and service is top-notch. I especially love their crab cakes, but everything from the salad to dessert is delicious. We enjoy visiting during the holiday season as it's beautifully decorated and their fireplaces are extra cozy. The only downside is it can take longer than expected to be seated even with a reservation, but it's worth the wait! read more

A Frederick's Best. Voted Best crab cake several times. A very classy place. service is always top notch . Very disturbing reading reviews from people downing the age of clients and calling it an "Old Folks Home" These people had no problem eating there if someone else paying the bill (meetings). Ok to review service and food but lets not get personal. read more

My boyfriend and I went there last weekend and he got the tuna teriyaki and we absolutely loved it! I would have given them 5 stars but I got the scallops and I knew they didnt come with anything but I realllllly wanted them to have some kind of sauce or something but all in all awesome experience read more

Of course Dutch's Daughter is a known Frederick staple, however the staff is treated incredibly poorly by owners and upper management. That is not the behavior I want to see in my community and I will not be supporting them. Would not recommend. read more
