I drive a 2008 BMW 550iI am in the process of upgrading and some restoration work to the engine as it has 150,000 miles on it but make no mistake It is not in any way shape or form a junker as the pictures below will attest. I planned on doing some suspension upgrades as well as some engine modifications and I called Dina sport to see if they would be able to do that kind of work. I asked if I could provide the parts they said that I could, however, they would not be able to warranty the work. I was OK with that. I washed the car by hand the morning II brought it in to be looked at (something I always do so they see I care for my car and hopefully they will as well. the damage that represented below in the pictures did not exist at that time. I had prior quotes from BMW, the other from another independent repair shop both of whom claim that two wheel bearings need to be replaced and both lower control arms on both sides (4) needed to be replaced. The shop called me back having not discovered either one of the wheel bearings and only finding part of the suspension issue. Wanting to charge $1000 and not knowing what parts they were putting in and being told that they were no longer for some reason allowing me to bring in my own parts. I declined that repair from them feeling like they had missed the Mark that was discovered by two other repair shops and Les Schwab tire. I had them go ahead and do the expansion valve and a hose which was causing a coolant and a cooling problem. They told me I needed a new battery which I said, go ahead and do and to pick up the car, was shocked to see the battery charge $600. I expected three or $400 never 600 did a little research while that's very much on the high side and It's not what I've ever paid before. My car was backed in against another building with the nose pointing out so I could not see the driver side of the car where this damage was. I drove straight home and didn't drive until today when I noticed the damage. I feel inveigled with a bait and switch, I feel like they obfuscated damage that was done and I feel like they overcharged for the replacement of the battery and then did not stand by what they originally represented. The damage is clearly done by the lift not being positioned right on the car. read more

Best experience I have ever had getting my car repaired by a very wide margin. The staff, including the owner Ryan, are as ethical and transparent as they come. My car was done so much faster than in my other experiences that I genuinely had trouble believing it. Car was dropped off unable to move on a Wednesday and by the following Monday it was ready for pickup - totally blown clutch, flywheel, and a few other items that died in the process. The pricing is extremely fair, less than I was expecting honestly, and when I got there I was also walked through some other potential issues and maintenance items to be mindful of. DynaSport saved us over a thousand dollars. I had some battery issues and AAA said it was just a bad battery so I got it replaced. Then I took it to Pacific Motorsports right after for my regular oil change and asked them to just take a look. They said they couldn't get a read out from the computer at all. They said they checked the fuses and couldn't find the issue. So their conclusion was my alternator readings were too low and my 30,000 mile car needed a new alternator that would cost about $1100. Well we decided to get a second opinion and heard about DynaSport being a relatively new place that was certified for Mini Coopers. The owner has the same Mini Cooper as me and compared my alternator readings to his car and said they were perfect readings and were not low at all. He looked for the fuse to fix the computer, found it right away and fixed it. He was a really nice guy, charged only $50 for his time and the fuse and we were on our way. It's been a couple months now and the car is still running great!!! This will be my go to place from now on for my Mini. read more

Brought my '99 BMW M roadster in for a rear subframe inspection and discuss work that we're scheduling. Ryan and Ian were very helpful and friendly. After discussing my car in detail it was clear to me this is the shop to. Ryan really knows this car and was familiar with my concerns and the solutions. A month later I finally scheduled the work (New bushings for the sub-frame, trailing arm, differential, sway bar, control arms) and rewelding some damaged welds in my trunk. Ryan did an outstanding job on the car and I cannot believe the difference. They checked and cleared my airbag code for free. It was triggered by the previous owner and there was no issue (other shops $100 to do this...). Their pricing was very fair and their suggestions were spot on. First experience was met with disinterest in working on my car because it's a "hybrid" and "nobody mods hybrids". I hope they looked up the Activehybrid 3 (more HP and Torque than the 335i) because while there are not many of them on the road they are definitely worth upgrading the suspension and brakes. If it were me, I would have been interested just by the fact that I hadn't worked on one before. Next, they could not source the parts, no big deal, so I sourced them myself from Europe (was a pain and the parts got stuck in customs so I had to change my appointment). Ian (Aaron?) was very understanding and friendly about the appointment change stating they have had to wait a long time for some of their parts as well. Next, I get to install day after 6-8 weeks of anticipation. Dynasport gets my car up on the lift and decided they misquoted me by $2,200 (this would have been much more than the dealer quote). I quickly said, "no thanks" and that I'll pick it up. I get my Lyft driver to take me back after almost getting home (ended up being a $35 ride). Finally, Ian (Aaron?) was pleasant again when he gave me my car back but the mechanics left me with a car reeking of cig smoke, do they smoke next to the cars or something?!?! So, now I'm home, the car is airing out with the windows open in the garage, and I've already booked another appointment with a different Indy shop for a very similar price to Dynaport's original quote. I'm surprised by the great Yelp reviews for Dynasport (that's what made me go there in the first place), I however will never visit them or recommend them to any of my BMW friends. read more

Satisfied on multiple occasions. No upsell pressure, laundry list of "needed" services and almost always less expensive than the Monopoly (I mean the Dealer.) The only time Dynasport's quote came in higher was for rear brakes as they apparently use a superior disc/pad manufacturer. The only slight negative is its the type of place you drop off your vehicle and arrange for transportation. That is, the waiting area is not very conducive to hanging out, and I'm not sure if they offer a loaner car. Lastly, they are not open on Saturday. We have owned our 2002 M3 for over 11 years and when our SMG transmission gave out we were devastated. We reluctantly went to BMW Portland and told them how much we loved our car and really didn't want to replace it. A person there who was another older BMW enthusiast suggested we contact Dynasport and consider a conversion to a 6 speed manual transmission. I bought a used BMW Z4 and did a crappy job doing it. All I saw was shiny, cool and faster than my ford minivan --oooh, here's my money, thank-you very much. Since then, I have compiled a list of all the things that need to be repaired. Some of them now, some later but all needing to be done. Some of this list comes from my own knowledge or cars and some from forums and other bathroom lawyer types who have nothing but doom and gloom to spread. It happened one day this week that my car kinda died in downtown Portland on my lunch hour. It would start but it had no power and there was a funny idle, as well. I had stalled the car when parking and when I restarted it was all messed up and couldn't be driven. It's like it Blue Screened. I called Kuni and spoke with their service department. "Have you ever heard of this before? can I wait it out??" to which they replied, "Hmmm, I never heard of anything like that. You should have it towed in to our Beaverton Center." Seriously? Frustrated with Kuni over this and some really poor customer service we had last month, I googled other, closer BMW repair shops and found DynaSport just a few blocks from where I work in NW. I called them and the front desk guy gave me their towing company info. Then, as I was dialing, I tried the car again and VROOOM, back to life it came. I decided to swing by DynaSport anyway as my check engine light was on. I explained to a couple of guys there what happened and I one of them said, "do you want me to tell you what happened?" GAWD, I love that answer!!! Of course I did. He explained to me that the problem is just a freaky computer deal and there's no residual effect at all. He then grabbed his BMW OBD2 machine and cleared the Check Engine code. Didn't want a dime. Why couldn't Kuni tell me that? Oh yeah, because they wanted $500 and for me to sit in their waiting room eating chocolate strawberries for 2 hours before imparting such information as if they "solved the mystery!!" So back at DynaSport, we started talking about my list of things that I thought needed repair and he said, "let's take it for a drive." Oh hell yeah! (this stuff never happens to me!) So off we go and here's what he told me: I don't need a new clutch. I don't need a flex disk. I don't need to worry about my transmission (3rd gear issue). I don't need new brakes (until the car tells me I do.) I DO need to get my front struts fixed. Now, maybe some of these things will break. Maybe california will fall into the Sea, I dunno. I just know that the odds are they will not. Ryan could have soaked me for thousands of dollars and I would have gladly ponied up --cause really, he's a nice guy and it's close to work, and what do I really know about cars these days, anyway? At 55, I'm older and I think I know something about cars but really that list of things I made up is based on outdated information. It's not the reality of today's vehicles. It takes a pro and an honest one to assess a car like this BMW. I may have done a bad job buying it, but really I just believed what the seller told me (and why should I be able to do that?). This time, maybe, just maybe I'll get lucky with this car. Time will tell. The result of my visit to DynaSport sent me from completely bummed out to super elated all in the span of 20 minutes. I feel like I have a new friend in the industry --someone that has a proven record of being an honest broker. I think he sleeps well at night. I've had my Mini for 6 years now (he's an '04, bought him new) and before now he's always had all his work done at Rassmussen. I was slightly worried when he rolled out of warranty and needed work done (brakes, oil change, service 2). While I love Rassmussen, they're very expensive and I needed an alternative. After doing a little looking I found Ryan at Dynasport and boy am I glad he did! He gave me a worst case scenario price wise and told me he'd do his best seeing as how I've been unemployed for awhile. While Tony did need new brakes, he also gave him a courtesy once-over while in there and discovered that he was leaking oil and needs a new coil-what's-it (Coil-over?) along with sparkplugs, etc. He informed me that at some point in the future we should probably do them. But back to the brakes and oil change - He installed ceramic brakes (++ over the metallic ones!) and when I called the next day and said I wasn't sure everything was right, he had be come right in and we took Tony for a spin to check it out. He explained to me how they'd be a little different and if I really didn't like them he'd swap me back to the metallic brake pads at no charge. I REALLY like the benefits of ceramic brakes (longer life, less brake dust) so I'm forcing myself to get used to them. Ryan explained everything to me (in plain english to boot) and was incredibly helpful and competent. I have no qualms leaving Tony in his capable hands and would recommend this shop to any mini owner. Oh yeah - and door says range rovers. Don't worry - you've got the right place. read more

My 2006 MINI JCW had been rattling and twitching a fair bit, had me worried. Called up these guys today and they were not only able to get me in to take a look right away, but also diagnosed AND fixed the issue (broken exhaust pipe @ center mount). Recommended oil change and tire rotation at same time while car was up on hoist (definitely due). Took all of 30 min. It's driving much better now. STRONGLY recommend DynaSport for your MINI maintenance and repairs. While the waiting area was itself okay, their pricing was extremely fair. Highly recommended! read more

The clutch failure light came on in my 2006 M5, and I called them up after seeing pretty good reviews here on Yelp. They told me to bring it on in the next morning to have it diagnosed and they found the problem immediately. The car was fixed when they said it would be, and I haven't had any issues with it. What impressed me is that they didn't take advantage of the situation. The E60 M5 is notorious for having serious transmission issues, and they can be costly. Ryan could have said the flywheel needed to be replaced or something, and done unnecessary work, but they didn't. I will be back for future work. read more

Ok, so, Whit over at DynaSport may have just saved my life (and more importantly, the lives of the two adorable miniature husky puppies who accompany me everywhere). My Mini Cooper's rear wheel was making an ominous clunking sound. As my car is an already confirmed cursed deathtrap lemon, I assumed it must be something complicated and expensive, and didn't even try to look at it myself. I took the car over to DynaSport this morning and within an hour he called to tell me that the last mechanic who took the wheel off a couple of months ago had left all but one of the lug nuts completely loose, and that the wheel could have flown off at any second. Good to know...? They tightened the lug nuts and didn't even charge me for their time. I wish I'd found these guys sooner - they'll definitely be getting all of my MiniCoop business from now on. This outfit is very difficult to review; some days they are the best in customer service, yet when they are busy they can be the worst. In other words. this company's service and customer care are erratic at best and it is purely luck whether a customer gets good service or not. The randomness of the company's customer service drives me crazy and I will not take my business here again. For example, Dyna Sport replaced the flex disc and shift rod seal for my BMW E36/7 on July 20 and did an excellent job in a timely manner. The cost was reasonable and fair. I probably could have done these jobs myself if not for the fact that I do not have a lift; replacing these items with the car on jack stands would have been difficult. Then, on August 4th I bought a set of Powerflex lower control arm bushes from this company. What a mistake this was...not only did Ryan tell me that he can remove the original stock bushes and install Powerflex bushes into the housing in 10 minutes for $10, but he also told me that the installed Powerflex bush and the housing can be installed on the lower control arm without a special tool. What a bunch of crock that was...when I called to have the original bush removed and Powerflex bushes pressed into the housing, the service manager told me Ryan is too busy to do this and did not know when Ryan would have the time to take care of this. Thus, I went to a machine shop nearby my house (Steve's Machine Shop) to have the original bushes taken out and Powerflex bushes pressed into the housing. I also found out that Dyna Sport will not provide me with accurate advice in installing the housing (with Powerflex bushes pressed in) onto the lower control arm. I was told to use a pry bar and muscle to align the two bolts that are screwed into the chassis. I sent an email via the company's website requesting help, yet I received no reply. Since Dyna Sport was unwilling to help I finally called an online retailer (Bavarian Autosports) and got help from them instead. Apparently the whole procedure is very easy if a special tool is used (Control Arm Bushing Press - CTA Tools). I bought this tool from Bavarian Autosports and I was able to install the two housings within 30 minutes; it was extremely easy with that tool. I believe it is irresponsible for Dyna Sport to ignore a customer who buys Powerflex products if it is an official authorized vendor for Powerflex products. I plan to make a formal complaint to Powerflex and hope that this will improve the service of this vendor. read more

I've taken my BMW to at least 3 other repair shops around Portland and DynaSport is head and shoulders above the rest. they really know what they're talking about and they only replace parts that need replacing. I recently needed to replace a ball joint on the passenger side front control arm. Auto Hause was going to replace the ENTIRE control arm costing about $560. DynaSport was able to just replace the bushings and the ball joint saving me $450! You have defiantly got a customer for life! read more

(2007 Mini Cooper S) If you have a Mini, this is the shop for you. I have had unplesant and obnoxious experiences at Rassmusen. They would not correct an issue i had with the E-Brake and they couldn't even fix a flat after 4pm. Even the one time I got everything I wanted from them, sitting in their waiting room caused my brain to drain out my ears: mini uncomfortable armchairs, huge loud TV blaring commercials, trashy magazines everywhere. When I had an issue with starting my mini the soonest Rassmusen appointment was a week away so I took it to Marque Motors who told me they couldn't figure out what was wrong because they couldn't get their computer to talk to my car. I called Dynasport at 6:20pm friday night and Ryan said I could come in Saturday before 12:00pm! The waiting room was stupidly comfortable to hang out in with "top gear" streaming to its tv and a comfortable couch and stools. Dynasport quickly diagnosed and explained the problem to me which was carbon buildup causing cylinder misfiring. Time flew by as I waited with 2 friendly and relaxed customers for my car which drives more beautifully than it has since I moved to OR a year ago. When my power steering failed, prior to the recall, I contacted Beaverton MINI and was told they could pencil me in in about a month and it would cost well over a thousand. Scary... My fiance called DynaSport and they scheduled me for the same week and the price was just over half the MINI quote. That's it, gamechanger! I've since had two oil changes, front arm bushings, other random stuff, and about to get front brakes replaced and see about some trim replacements on my beloved '04 Bettie. I wasn't too pleased with my usual shop anyway, and when I called them with my convertible top issue, they sent me away, saying "We don't do those." It was a brusque dismissal, and I had been a regular customer (albeit, as mentioned, not really a happy one). So I visited Yelp. Looked at reviews. Saw DynaSport, gave them a call: "Bring it in!", they said. "We can fix it." My car is a BMW. I was prepared for a long wait for parts and a bill big enough to rebuild New Orleans after Katrina. I took the car in at 9:00. At 2:00 that afternoon they called: "All done." No parts were required. It was a broken wire. I've spent more money at the grocery store than I spent at DynaSport that afternoon. They were pleasant, informative, and truly knew what they were doing (did you know that BMW convertible tops have their own computer...?!!). And they're on the streetcar line. DynaSport is in my Contacts file now. All the rest are gone. Five stars only because that's the limit. read more

Whit is seriously amazing! I was in here a couple of days ago. My car was making a horrible noise when in reverse. It was so loud and obnoxious people would literally stare at me. Anyway, I took it in to Whitt (who is all booked until the 7th mind you) just to take a quick look at it to be sure I'd be safe to drive it for a little while longer. Within literally 10 min the problem was fixed! Literally! And he refused to accept a payment from me! He literally made my day! I'm coming back on the 7th to fix a few other things. Recently the on board computer on my 2008 BMW 335i presented a rather nebulous error stating the tire pressure monitor was malfunctioning without giving any indication of what specifically was wrong. : ( After several resets, the error wouldn't clear. So I needed to bring the car to a shop for diagnosis and repair. While my normal repair shop, Everett Street Autoworks, can replace TPMS sensors, they apparently didn't think they had the tool needed to give me further information about the TPM error message. Naturally, I wanted to know what part was failing before I replaced anything. So I passed by Kuni BMW to schedule an appointment to have it checked. They claimed would likely take at least an hour or two (and more likely half a day or overnight requiring a loaner) and set up an appointment for two whole weeks later, and didn't mention any charges. Just before I drove away, I went back in to check the appointment time, and it occurred to me to ask whether there would be any charge for running the diagnostics. It was only then that they informed me they would charge $145 just to run diagnostics - on top of any *additional* charges to actually fix the problem. This is quite frankly ridiculous considering all they needed to do is connect a cable to the car and press a few buttons to check the error code! There's no way in hell I am paying someone $145 just to connect a cable and hit a couple buttons! I can purchase my own OBD2 tool for only $20, and Kuni wants 7 times that? What a joke! I called around to a few alternative shops to check pricing for diagnostics. One charged $50 to run diagnostics, a few others claimed they didn't have the tool needed to check. Then I saw Dyna Sport LLC had good ratings on Yelp. I called Dyna Sport and talked with Whit, who told me he could run a diagnostic for free in a few minutes. I hopped in the car and brought it in, no appointment needed, and they ran the test. Within 15 minutes, they notified me that the passenger side front wheel TPM sensor was malfunctioning. It turns out TPMS modules for my car run from $35 to $65, which is a whopping $80 to $110 LESS than Kuni BMW wanted to charge me just to run freaking diagnostics! I can only imagine what Kuni would charge to replace a sensor... Dyna Sport is clearly a reasonable, non-nonsense, trustworthy shop. I'll definitely have them on my short list for repairs and upgrades in the future. Recommended. read more
