The sweet and sour pork was well breaded with a great sauce. There was ample parking and the service was pretty fast, although there wasn't many customers at noon on a Friday. Considering the pandemic is still here (ugh), I would view this as 3.5 but let's give it 4 stars. I'm not a local. I come from SGV where there are many, many authentic Chinese food and I found the menu to be quite legitimate. Not the usual 'orange chicken' but they share many of the items that I would find back home. I only ordered eggplant with pork (sichuan style). Eggplant is definitely cooked well but I didn't find it spicy at all and I'm very bad at tolerating spice. There was barely any pork (it was minced up) but that's usually how it's like back home so I wasn't surprised since the main dish is eggplant. However, the white rice that came with the dish is definitely poor quality. I tried a bit of my friends' hot and sour soup and it also seemed pretty well-made. Something about it seemed too salty but again I was pleasantly surprised given that I'm at Big Bear! We ordered takeout Friday around 5 and the wait time wasn't too bad. Pretty quick 10-15 minutes. Other thoughts: I agree with another reviewer - the restaurant needs to be cleaned. The floors are sticky and the decor is really old. I really can't say much though because it is a mountain town so it's unfair to use city standards on this place but I really hope they clean up/renovate after the pandemic. Also, a reviewer showed a picture and said it looked like dog food - that's incredibly racist because it looks okay to me. Don't be fooled by the sheer expanse of this restaurant that make it appear almost chain-like - the dishes are homey and authentic. We were delighted with our vegan meal. NOTE that you should ask what can be served vegan under the "Vegetables and Tofu" section. Our server suggested the spring rolls (fried) - HOT (temperature wise) - and they came with a side of duck sauce and hot mustard. I appreciated that the hot mustard was mild enough to be enjoyed as a dip, as usually it's fire breathing dragon spicy. The filling was as you'd expect - cabbage and other stringy veggies that are especially good when wrapped in fried wheat casing. We got the Fried Tofu in Spicy Chili Sauce w/ no pork and by our server's recommendation, the String Beans w/ no pork. String Beans stole the show!!!! It's the best version of this dish of I've ever had. It came with thin fried tofu slices - crispy perfection. The Fried Tofu Spicy Chili was very good, too. Triangle-cut tofu with broccoli, water chestnuts, onions, and bamboo shoots. The sauce was a delicious brown sauce, just not much spice. Unless we accidentally served Tofu in Brown Sauce .. but no complaints!! Despite devouring so many fried foods, we didn't feel sluggish at all after the meal. Vegan fried magic! I would love to go back. Great portions and price, our two entrees, large size of rice, and app were just shy of $30. read more

The good: My family was sick of eating American food in Big Bear so we decided to take a gamble and try this place despite the less than 4 star Yelp review. We're so glad we did! The food came out in a timely manner and their menu offers a ton of great options (including lobster that they have live on site!). The market price for lobster was around $70/pound at the time I went. They serve it in three different styles. My family tried the honey walnut prawns with pineapple, sweet and sour soup, mooshu pork wraps, and the beef with snap peas. Each portion wasn't too large and was cooked well. I liked that the honey walnut shrimp wasn't overly battered. It had a great crunch to it and seemed to be dipped/fried fresh. The hot and sour soup tasted great despite having a darker than normal appearance. It was balanced and had a great white pepper flavor without being overly spicy. The prices were very fair. This was my favorite meal out of the 3 restaurants I tried in Big Bear. It is the only (or one of the only) Chinese restaurants in town. I like that their menu offers some authentic Chinese food and they didn't "water down" the menu to appease an American palette. The bad: Half of the spoons and bowls we were given were dirty. They need to clean their dishes better. The soups are left in the hot soup containers out on the restaurant floor. I think it'd be nicer if they left it in the kitchen because seeing how it sat there all day was less appetizing. The interior of the restaurant has a sort of greasy/dirty feel to it. The interesting: The mooshu pork wraps came pre-wrapped for us rather than the traditional wrap on the side with a bowl of the pork. *Overall 3.5 Stars* This restaurant has the advantage of being the only Chinese place in Big Bear. That monopoly is also a detriment to customers who yearn for more authentic Chinese cuisine. The establishment itself is rather spacious with ample parking in back. The dining area around the corner from the bar offers good window booth seating, and a view of Big Bear Blvd. During the winter months the views of a snow lined street are nice, in the summer not so much. The food is typical "Americanized Style" with all the western staple points, General Tso chicken, sweet and sour whatever with plastic sauce, lo mein, egg foo young, egg drop soup, etc.... Dont get me wrong its not that bad here its just what you get when located at 8000 ft. above the desert floor. To all the "flat landers", aka visiting weekend warriors who live off the mountain, do not expect Dim Sum or more traditional dishes, unless you know how to ask really hard for the off menu items, and yes there are many. I've been here multiple times over the years and the servers know me, even down to the Mai Tai's I like to drink from here. Seriously when I walk in they ask me before I even mention it, which is a really good feeling considering no other place seems to know that about me. Overall this place will do, sure it's not the best Chinese I've had but then again it's not the worst either. If better Chinese cuisine in Southern California located in a isolated area above 7000ft. exists I'd be interested to give it a taste. That's rhetorical because there is no other place. First time came here 2 years ago. I was desperate for some Chinese food during a ski trip and Sichuan food was even better. Spicy food is always a good welcome during ski trip ! Didn't have high expectation thinking it's big bear but I was blown away by how authentic the Sichuan food was ! Fast forward 2 years and we have another short ski trip, the meal 2 years ago was so memorable I wanted to find this restaurant again. So we found it and the quality of food was still super authentic and after living in China for 6 years and Hong Kong 10 years we could really tell this is proper Sichuanese food. Having said that, the restaurant was filthy ! The glass on the door was filled with finger prints. The windows looking out were opaque and the floor was not washed with hot water and bleach / baking soda for a long time - I could see grease built up in many places. So if you would just close your eyes and not look around but focus only to taste the food then it's definitely highly recommended to get your spicy food craving fixed ! I seriously hope the workers in the restaurant would give the shop a deep clean - it would do a tremendous uplift on that positive experience to eat in a restaurant. read more

This is where you come because they have cheap lunch specials not because it's good Chinese food haha but it does seem a little better today than when I've been here in the past. It isn't buffet style but you can tell the food is not freshly made to order. It was ok for the price and there was a good portion of food. Meat was overdone & not tender sadly. Good price on a tall Sapporo. The inside was fairly clean & they've done a great job decorating. My seat was uncomfortable tho. However where I first sat I could smell cigarette smoke very strongly coming from the back. I'm so sensitive to it I almost got sick & walked out. I was super hungry so I sat at the other side of the restaurant next to a very loud fish tank. This place could greatly improve! Sadly it's the only Chinese restaurant on the mountain but if they improved that would be awesome. Also I wish they would've given me the option of chopsticks but I was only given a fork. I don't want to assume why but...? The staff was friendly but not very attentive. I worry about the sanitation here as well. I saw the waitress blow her nose & not wash her hands. The guy was on his phone between touching some produce he was sorting. It's just not a very clean practice especially during cold & flu season. My family decided to go to one restaurant in Big Bear on our last night - and we all agreed on Chinese. We have been to Dynasty before, maybe five years ago, where we remembered it being as a delicious classic Chinese spot. Walking into Dynasty today, we were the only customers there on a Thursday afternoon, which is unusual. We got seated after a while of standing there and quickly got our menus. We ordered wonton soup, mongolian beef, and honey walnut shrimp. The wonton soup tasted watered down, the mongolian beef was a very small plate and was majority grilled onions, and the honey walnut shrimp was plain dry and crunchy as opposed to how creamy it normally is. It was overpriced and nobody enjoyed their food. To top it all off, my grandma looked down and noticed a very large ant trail on the floor and on the walls behind us. We all lost our appetite then and there because we started to think about the condition of the kitchen / restaurant itself. I am giving it two stars because the man who served us was very pleasant and accommodating. Apart from that, I would NOT recommend. I don't know who is saying this place is a "hidden gem", honestly this was some of the worst food I have had in a long time. Do not waste your time and money. read more

I live in Riverside and come to the Dynasty restaurant each winter when I go skiing. This place has authentic Chinese food and amazing service. I decided to go to Big Bear Lake to get away from the COVID-19 a week ago and came to the place again with my family. We ordered pan-fried and steamed dumplings and the waiter told us that the waiting time for dumplings was about 10 minutes. I was so glad because the service was timely and friendly. I also ordered the Dynasty and Emperor combinations and they worth the money. We got all the appetizers, main dishes, and fried rice.
