We were on vacation visiting family in Lake Tahoe and flying out of Reno where we stayed at The J Resort. We are originally from San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle which both have China Towns that give you the finest Asian Cuisine experience one can only dream of in the U.S. If we could bring back our favorite thing in Reno to Austin TX. it would be this restaurant and Annie! Annie is a Marvel Gem! Every Asian restaurant we tried to hit was closed on a Sunday. We were both so disappointed. Then we ended up in a parking lot that offered American food. Two men came walking out and said the restaurant is closed but you can get the bar menu if you sit in the bar. That was a NOPE for us. Then I said, "Hey, do you know of a good Chinese Food Restaurant that is open"? They chatted it out and said you should try Dynasty its the best in Reno. So, I checked online and it said they were OPEN!! Finally, after an hour of dead ends, we were on our way! When we arrived, the sign did say OPEN. We walk in and were greeted by a beautiful smile and knew we were in the presence of an angel hearted woman named Annie! She asked if we were picking up an order, and we said no, we have been driving around for an hour trying to find the best Chinese food in Reno and you were highly recommended. She said, we stop serving in the restaurant 30 minutes ago and are now doing take out only. We said we have nowhere to take the food to eat as we are on our last day of vacation and we just wanted to sit to have lunch. We thanked her for her time and turned to leave when she said, "Wait". I can serve you at a table if you do not mind to-go boxes and utensils, water in plastic cups, and soup containers? We were all in! She treated us with such kindness, great service, beautiful background music, and served the most delicious meal beyond our expectations. We had HIT THE JACKPOT in Reno! It was as though we had put a coin into the Make A Wish box at a Twilight Carnivale. We had the entire place to ourselves. It will always be one of the most romantic meals and favorite shared moments in our 36 years of marriage! The Kun Pao Shrimp lunch combination I ordered included a hot and sour cup of soup and an egg roll. They were tasty. They were great. Pro or Con: (you decide) The Kun Pao shrimp combination was $13.49 plus tax plus tip. Cons: The food was warm but not steaming hot, the way it's supposed to be if it was freshly cooked. The rice was supposed to be fried rice, instead it was white rice with brown color with no goodies in it. The Kun Pao Shrimp was for the most part veggies. Too greasy for my taste. This is the first time we have eaten from Dynasty China Bistro since they went to a "TAKE OUT ONLY" business model. Ordering was very easy, the food, which was very good, was ready just as I walked in the door (20 minutes) and I particularly liked the process of paying with a credit card at the time of pickup rather than giving credit card information online. The portions were very sufficient, enough left over for a small lunch tomorrow! The nice lady who brought our food told me there were "just the two of them" so that is impressive. The website is well-designed and functional also. So, if you have not tried this restaurant, give them a try. I read a couple of reviews to the right and would not suggest a "time order". I wouldn't normally do a negative review, but this is the 3rd time I've had an issue with Dynasty. First. They have only 1 cook, and one gal running the rest of the show. They no longer have the ability to serve "dine in". It's take out only. Which is ok. Obviously staffing is an issue, or for financial reasons they're running a tight ship. All that aside.... The first two issues were a few months ago, a the second trip I said I'd not be back for a long time, due to the situation. That said, I called this morning at 10:30,to place an order to go. Set for pick up at 5:30. I was informed it may be busy and there may be a wait due to them only having one cook. Well, that's why I'm placing my order at 10:30am. I called Dynasty at 5:30. State my name and that I have a pick up for 5:30, that I'm on my way. I'll be there by 5:45. Gal on the phone confirms my order and says she's packing it up now and it will be ready to go. GREAT! I was on a small time crunch, hence the reason I placed the order way ahead of time, and did a follow up call that I was headed over to pick up. I get there 9 min later, and the gal looks at me confused. I said "I just called you about my order, you said you were packing it up". She said, I give order to a lady said her name was Christine. Your order (and she read it off) already gone. "Whaaat"?! Seriously? So she's completely flustered. The place is packed waiting for to go orders and she tells me she can make a few of the items again but it would be an hour for the fried rice because she has orders ahead of me that are getting fried rice. I was blown away. She Was a bit rude, and indignant. That I was on a time crunch and that I was a little frustrated to now have to wait a good 30 min for them to re-do a partial order of what i originally ordered, at 10:30 this morning. Ugh! She says... after 30 min. Here's your order, that will be $73. For Soup and potstickers. No offering to comp anything. No discount. No "hey, we'll toss in the steamed rice at no charge". Nothing. Then said "happy new year"! I will not be back. Finding another place to enjoy. As it was I had to call another Chinese place and order the few things she couldn't provide because she gave my order to Someone else and I don't want to wait for another hour to remake. Just insane! My mom and I had the idea to order Chinese food, at the same time! That never happens....ever! So, I knew it was definitely something to get. I just needed to decide where. I knew what the 3 household members like and had to find a place that could supply it. I was ordering delivery so I checked reviews there too. I wanted a place I hadn't tried yet. That is my goal this year...try new things. So I went with Dynasty China Bistro. Very satisfied! Me, my mom, and my partner! We all were very happy with the portions sizes (lasted 3 days), flavor, texture, and selection! For my mom, I ordered the chicken/beef/pork chow mein with fried rice, egg drop soup, and egg roll. I read about Dynasty China Bistro having the best pot stickers in Reno in a Reno Gazette article some years ago, by long time food editor Johnathan L. But now, I'm finally getting around to coming here, since I don't exactly live in the neighborhood. What prompted me after all these years, is a I have a fried that LOVES potstickers and I remembered the RJG article and this Dynasty China Bistro. So off we go to this part of town I never go to. Inside is a large restaurant and we're the only ones there at this early lunch hour. Menus are given out, but we say we already know what we want ... those famous potstickers! Our server acknowledges that , Yes, they are famous and one of the best selling things they make! They sell hundreds at the farmer's market on weekends he says. The pot stickers are supposedly huge, so we just get one order. Here, one order includes EIGHT dumplings, where most restaurants give you only 6. It's priced at $12.95, so not bad for 8 pieces. The order arrives shortly, holy guacamole! Those ARE huge, way bigger than your average potsticker. All browned perfect om one side, they looked fabulous. Served with house made dipping sauce, we dig in. Well, OK, yes, they are hot, but the skin of the dumpling is quite thick, but it may have to be to hold all that filling in this thing. The filling is good, not off the charts good, but decent and made in house. My friend noticed the doughiness of the dumpling as well, but still liked it enough to order a full order to go and take home. Despite the thick outer skin, they were cooked through properly. Overall, I liked the potstickers well enough, I think the novelty of this huge dumpling was a sight to behold, but my total taste experience was not great enough to make me come running back here. I do think everyone should at least give these a try and see what you think ..... but as the saying goes ... size isn't everything! At least in the case of these potstickers! I don't know why, but this was my first visit to this restaurant, even though I live fairly close. My friend and I had lunch here on a cold day, and we both really enjoyed it. First of all, the service was excellent. I really appreciate how well we were treated. My friend ordered a lunch combo (and it looked fresh and delicious!) that came with a cup of soup, but I ordered a noodle that didn't come with one. But the server asked if I wanted soup, and yes! I love soup. Their hot and sour soup is one of the best I've had. The lunch potion is big, so we both had a box to take home for the next day! We had such a nice dinner while eating here for the first time at Dynasty China Bistro. Their menu had tons of options and it was enjoyable reviewing all of the choices. We ordered the veggie pan fried noodle, the veggie fried rice, mixed vegetables and shrimp with lobster sauce. Our family loved everything! The only comment was that all of the veggie dishes had way too much celery, which became the dominant flavor. The shrimp in lobster sauce was delicious and the sauce was wonderfully flavored. The restaurant is a pleasant and peaceful setting and nicely decorated. We noticed that there were many to go orders, ready and waiting to be picked up. As the night went on, more people came in for dinner. But it was never crowded or noisy. Kevin provided excellent and kind service. We will definitely come back to try other menu items. Really the best place for Asian food in town. The service here is amazing. The owner/operators are so attentive and kind and that really makes the experience more enjoyable. The food is hands down some of the best I've had since I moved here almost 7 years ago. It reminds me of some of the best chinese food eateries I have visited in my life. I absolutely love the handmade dumplings and I have to order them every time. The dough is thicker than others but it is always cooked perfectly and the filling is perfection. I've never had anything that was sub par. Clean restaurant with aging booths. There is a nostalgia factor to this place that harkens back to my childhood and growing up and makes the experience even better. Highly recommend this place to anyone. It's been quite a few months since I've come here and the food and experience today was not up to par. Generals Chicken was tough and dry, Mu Shu Vegetable wasn't hot, and the food took awhile despite us being the only people dining in. ??? Our server made the experience worse. When I was ordering the Wonton Soup she said, "are you sure?" So bizarre, made me feel uncomfortable. When ordering the Generals Chicken I asked if it comes with steamed rice because anytime I've ordered an entree from here in the past it's always come with steamed rice. She replied, "no, that's a separate charge." When the bill came we were charged twice for one small order of steamed rice (see photo). The woman serving us was not genuine. Living in the Bay Area for a long time can make it very hard to find an acceptable Chinese restaurant in Reno. I believe I have finally found my Reno Chinese restaurant. The location is big, spacious and pleasant inside. I ordered the kung pao beef lunch special. The hot and sour soup was delicious. My waiter brought me kung pao chicken instead. I would have had him take it back but he had mentioned he was a martial arts instructor and I didn't want to get him angry. Just kidding, I didn't want to make my friend wait and additionally the specific protein almost does not matter when assessing the kung pao quality. The kung pao was excellent. I ate here numerous times in the past fifteen or so years and it was just mediocre but a couple of friends invited me to join them for Chinese cuisine at The China Dynasty, which is currently named Dynasty China Bistro. My friends ordered 'Scallops with Beef with mixed vegetables, which was so delicious!; Freshly sautéed Shrimp with snow peas, carrots and onions; Steamed white rice; Jasmine hot tea; and I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp and it was so amazingly tasty! Had dinner at China Bistro for the first time. Went there with a friend who likes it so I went along with it even though it broke my less than 4 stars rule and because most of the recent reviews were 4 stars or more. First let me say I personally went through several utensils before they finally brought me a fork that was actually clean. The salt and pepper shakers were covered in grime and the soy sauce container was filthy with dried soy sauce covering it as well. Because of that I didn't want to touch them let alone use them! Our table was against the wall where the chair rail looked like it hadn't been cleaned in ages! We ordered a handful of items off the menu. My friend ordered a Wor Wonton Soup type dish and Vegetable Dumplings. We ordered the Pupu Platter, Combination Egg Foo Young and Singapore Chow Fun. There was a back and forth about the Dumplings because it seemed like they didn't want to make them, but they relented and they got ordered. I had one and it was tasty. The Wor Wonton Soup looked good and I was told that it was. The Pupu Platter was run of the mill. It had all the usual suspects and they were tasty. The Singapore Chow Fun was tasty, however I prefer that dish with Chow Mein noodles or Mei Fun noodles. The combination Egg Foo Young was tasty as well and had a proper Egg patty/omelette. The food was probably 4 stars while the cleanliness was 1 Star, 2 stars at the most. Now in retrospect it makes me cringe to see what the kitchen was like. I didn't dare check out the loo. I was a little wary with their overall reviews kind of low, but recent reviews were promising. From review photos the potstickers looked like the type we prefer with the thick dough wrappers vs thin gyoza style, that's what brought us in. We ordered the panfried potstickers, M hot and sour soup, beef with broccoli, shrimp chow mein, and sesame chicken. They said rice does not come with entrees, but I think since we ordered so much food they gave us rice for no additional cost. The pan fried potstickers were pretty good, they are served 8 for $13. I wish they offered 4 for $7 as these are very hearty large potstickers. The hot and sour soup was very generous for the M size, enough to serve at least 8 people. pretty good and vinegary, with plenty of bamboo shoots and tofu. It certainly had a meaty taste, but no strips of actual meat in the soup. Pretty much all the entrees were very generously sized. We had lots leftover to take home. The broccoli beef was good with perfectly cooked tendercrisp broccoli. Chow mein had large good quality shrimp, the only minus was the onions were cut a bit large so they were still on the raw side, but easy to eat around or pick out. The sesame chicken had a good zesty sauce, this one comes in a thick beer batter type coating, which is not my preference but the batter wasn't heavy in texture and remained crispy in the sauce so it was ok too. Overall pretty happy with the meal and will likely return. Our total was right around $70 for an abundant amount of food for 4 people and plenty to take home. read more
