Wow, I thought I knew about all the places in town that serve traditional Chinese dishes and Sichuan food, but this was quite a pleasant surprise when I saw spicy boiled fish fillet on the menu. I had to order it, and I was not disappointed. The broth was rich and spicy, with a decent amount of numbing Sichuan peppercorn. They apparently have a whole secret menu of traditional Chinese and Sichuan dishes. I talked with the staff up front about all the things they have, and it seems like they rotate a little so be sure to ask what they have/can make. I'm looking forward to stopping by after my next hike in the area and getting some dan-dan noodles, and Sichuan green beans. read more

We opted for takeout one evening, and I had the hankering for some good ole chow mein. My husband opted for the Szechuan beef! Both were delicious, however, one note I would say is that we were anticipating a bit more flavor and spice from the Szechuan beef. But note, the vegetables were so fresh, and we certainly appreciated that! The egg rolls were pretty good too, I definitely recommend that. The service was helpful and generally really nice to us! Kind of retro Chinese restaurant. We ate early, so wasn't crowded. Lots of takeout orders. Lots of different art work on the walls- some for sale! We had the "Family Dinner A" which is a great deal of food for the price. Appetizer platter to share. Egg rolls crispy, dumplings a little soft, couldn't tell if they were homemade or not. Hot & sour soup had spicy bite. Egg flower soup tasty but a bit bland. King Pao beef had good bite. Chicken chow mein a little "American" tasting but still good. Overall enjoyed the meal. Stopped in for take out while charging my car at the nearby supercharger. We moved to Carson City this year from the Bay Area and are always on the lookout for good asian food. So glad we decided to try this restaurant! We tried their Chicken Chow Mein and Walnut Shrimp which were both very good. I asked the young lady at the register which tofu dish she would recommend and she said the Family Style Tofu which has a more authentic flavor and ingredient profile. It was delicious! She was clear to advise me that rice comes separately, but, since we make our own, I did not order any. As I was waiting for my food there were several phone orders that came in for pick up and all of them included the pot stickers so I am thinking we will have to try those next time. It is a mom and pop place. They are doing their very best, but it isn't good enough. My allot and sour soup was fine. The egg drop soup was decent (why did it have corn in it?) my entree was cooked with leftover, Burt oil that made the dish completely inedible. I have you a shot, and you blew it. We visited Chinese Village often when we used to live in Reno. Now that we're back (after 10 years), really glad to find Chinese Village is still a solid choice. The restaurant is showing its age at this point, but still quiet and comfortable. The service has always been acceptable. Today, I ordered the Singapore Rice Noodles. One of my favorite dishes, I was curious how Chinese Village would prepare it. In a word, delicious. The noodles where flavorful and cooked properly. The curry taste was defined but not too strong. I recommend the lunch special. There are good entree and side options and the portions are just right. The egg drop soup was very unique, and it also had corn in it. As my main course, I ordered the kung pao chicken with peppers and peanuts. It wasn't too spicy and a great flavor. I had the egg roll for the side. Order would be ready in 25 min... Enjoyed the beautiful day looking at the snow peaked mountains.. Walked over and there was one table being used. Waited another ten minutes for the order. $19.92 for two lunch combos, included soup, and vegetable egg roll, fortune cookies (dogs love them).. Chinese Village Restaurant seemed like a typical suburban strip mall Chinese American restaurant serving all the usual American faves and ubiquitous lunch specials that every Chinese restaurant serves. It's a pretty small hole in the wall look from the outside, squeezed in next to the bagel shop. The inside however, is much larger than the outside might indicate. The walls are decorated with European style paintings, reminding me of a French restaurant rather than a Chinese one. What brought me here was I read that they have an real authentic menu of Sichuan dishes with some of the pages of this menu all in Chinese, so you might have to get the staff to translate. I asked for this menu as I was seated. The server was the owner I think and her husband cooks in back. There was quite a selection of dishes, many that I'd not heard of before. Being by myself on this trip, I didn't want to order a bunch of food that I wasn't going to be able to finish. Chinese food is best enjoyed with a group ... bigger the better. I decided on the Dan Dan noodles ($8.95). When it was served, I was pleased with the presentation and the taste was wonderful. Full of subtle nuisances and a good texture to the noodles. I thought there might be a broth included, but they were served without. The flavor surprised me as I've had this dish before on big cities and this was the best I've had. Finishing the noodles, I was still a little hungry (it's a smallish portion). So I decided to try something I never had before. Off the regular lunch specials menu, I ordered the Shrimp with Lobster Sauce ($10.95). Served with fried rice and egg roll and egg flower soup. The soup was pretty standard as was the fried rice. No fancy fried rice with these lunch specials. The shrimps were a good size and covered in a white eggy sauce. I pictured that there might be more sauce, but it was just a coating. I knew there was no actual lobster in this dish, but still the shrimp tasted a little bland, could have used some MSG! I suppose it was a typical example of an Americanized Chinese dish. I'll say that the regular menu is pretty standard and will pass fine for mainstream tastes. I'd really be interested to come back and try some of the more authentic dishes off the Chinese menu, like that whole fish. Give the authentic Chinese menu a try, you might find some interesting delights there. read more

We wanted to try something new on Friday night, so we hit up Chinese Village on Wedge Parkway. Pretty impressed with everything. Very nice tables, booths, tablecloths, napkins, you name it. Hand sanitizer on the tables, and the staff and service was rocking! General's Chicken is a bit differrent than most places, more spicy and savory using dark meat. I thoroughly enjoyed it and think it belongs at #2 for the area. I cleaned the plate. That was daaaayaaaamn good! Elizabeth enjoyed the Lemon Chicken (I did as well) and we both liked the Po Po Platter. Potstickers and Crab Rangoon were pure A game, the Rangoon also has a different prep than you might be used to. The eggrolls were also great, but be carefull with the hot mustard sauce, it will kick hard! We also split a combo fried rice which was delicious. 1st impressions are important, and they nailed it. Stopped in Raleys for some groceries and Leroys sauce that you can only find at Raleys and SaveMart. My son eats it on everything. Decided to call in and in a take out order lunch combo. I ordered Szechuan chicken that comes with fried rice and you get a choice of egg roll or crab Rangoon and egg flower soup or hot n sour. I got the egg flower soup and it was super good! Not watery, nice consistency and great taste. The Szechuan chicken was delicious and spicy! Great lunch combo for $7.95 and was pleased with my takeout lunch. After reading the mixed reviews we were reluctant to try Chinese Village even though its' in a very convenient location for us. Last night we took a chance - ordered take-away - and were very pleasantly surprised with our meal. The Mongolian Beef and Ginger Beef were both excellent, but the highlight of the meal was the Dry Cooked Green Beans. The lady who helped us was friendly and helpful. Just tried this place today, because i love trying new places! I ordered the Kung Pao beef, fried rice, egg roll and egg drop soup lunch special, with an extra order of egg rolls. The Kung Pao beef was pretty good, tangy and a bit spicy not enough to kill you though. I recommend asking for chili oil and jack up the spice on the beef. The fried rice was meh, nothing special. Barely any egg and no veggies with it. Kinda stale if you ask me. Now, the egg rolls were pretty standard at other Chinese food places but they were deep fried perfectly! Crunchy, salty and great! I ordered to pick up on a Friday afternoon, between 12:30pm and 1:00pm and the place was completely empty. They do not sell ice tea to go either. read more

Tried takeout from this place tonight. The current reviews were pretty spot on! I don't think I will be coming here for takeout again unless they clean up their act. I really prefer not to mention places if I have to give a bad review, but then others will pay good money for very mediocre food. We ordered pot stickers, singapore rice noodles, crispy sesame chicken, 1/2 bbq duck, sweet & sour chicken, cashew chicken, ginger beef and mongolian beef. Basically almost nothing I would have ordered if it were up to me, but most of the items were for my friends that do not have a refined palate for real Chinese food. The pot stickers were passable, but not great. The singapore rice noodles didn't have a whole lot of flavour. They did not have bell peppers or green onions and the shrimp they used was not plain jane shrimps but some concoction of shrimp that was cooked ahead of time in some unknown ingredients. Crispy sesame chicken, Really!, the chicken was small diced deep fried chicken with sesame seed sprinkles. The 1/2 bbq duck was overcooked and dry, also it was seasoned with too much salt. The sweet & sour chicken was chunks of chicken deep fried battered with a tub of sweet and sour sauce on the side, not very appealing. The cashew chicken, I looked at it and didn't bother to even try it, whoever decided to order that dish didn't even have the courtesy of tryit themselves. The ginger beef was actually a hit, but the portion was tiny and the green onions were overcooked and lacking in amount. The mongolian beef was their version which was vegetable beef without any flavour and missing the required fried rice noodle garnish. All and all, the only item half way decent was the ginger beef, but I would have passed on everything else. This is a very poor showing of food pretending to be passed off as true Chinese food, this was Chinese american food, and that is far from being a complement. So sorry, but that was my honest opinion of the food produced from this so called Chinese restaurant. read more

So my brother and sister and I decided on lunch. Chinese was the option. While my sister and I both love Jade Palace on Moana, our brother was not a fan. Let's go to this great place on Mount Rose Highway. OK, sure. So it's roughly a 20 minute drive from downtown Reno. The restaurant was basically empty when we got there, maybe one or two other tables. The hostess/waitress/cashier was very friendly. We placed our order from the luncheon special. We were not offered the full menu. While reasonably priced the food was just ok. Certainly not worth the drive. I order hot and sour soup which was neither hot or sour. Then I ordered Szechuan Shrimp (should be spicy)... not spicy at all. And the appetizers were served after the entree. My brother seemed to enjoy his Shrimp and Lobster Sauce and my sister had the Beff with Tomatoes, which she was okay, but didn't want to take it home. read more

Used to be better years ago in the other location to the right of Raley's. Went in recently. Ordered Gen Chicken. Just nasty. All breading which was burnt in a thick deep red purple nasty sauce - drenched. The worst part? The worker's fam member sitting at a table behind us singing LADY GAGA out loud during my meal. Shrimp a and lobster sauce heaven. My rating is on the dish only and not the establishment. This is my third time in the last 30 days ordering this dish. Shrimp is perfectly cooked. Not dry in the middle. I only order white rice, so I can't tell you if the fried rice is any good. The server was friendly and When I told her I was allergic to crab, she quickly replaced it with an egg roll. I thought that was good customer service. The price was around $8.70 and a filling lunch portion. Plates, glasses and silverware were clean. Not the best ambiance, it could use some decluttering, new flooring and cleaner areas. First I would like to say I have never been to a Chinese place and not had the option to have a dinner with choice of chicken and side but I said whatever and ordered anyways. I ordered myself and my husband the generals chicken $17 each and a chicken fried rice since I couldn't order just a side of rice so that was another $10. Whatever I'll pay for good food that's not the issue. My generals chicken tasted like no generals chicken I have ever had before. It tasked like a barbecue mixed with mustard sauce and I HATE mustard. I wanted to love this place since it is so close and there were a few good reviews but unfortunately I did not.
