Pork Roll Egg & Cheese on Egg Bagel
    Tim B.

I've been stopping by E Street Bagels for a long time. While it's true the service and food has vacillated widely, the past few weeks have been very good. They may have new owners or just a staff that seems to care. I usually get a pork roll egg & cheese. The bagel is on the smaller side but it's comparable to many shops in the area. The woman running the show is kind, greeting from the door, she repeats your order and thanks you. It's almost surprising these days to have someone not just mouth platitudes. My food was ready in about 3 minutes and I was on my way happy as can be. Give them another try, or don't be scared off by bad reviews; I've enjoyed the experience lately and think you will too.

I'm a big fan of this place. Great breakfast sandwiches; great deli sandwiches; and the bagels are above average. Good bagel assortment. Very nice staff, friendly and efficient. Decent coffee (arabica). Large assortment of cold drinks. ATM machine; credit cards accepted. Small place with a 6 seat table and 5 seat counter. I highly recommend leaving extra time during busy hours (weekend mornings for sure).

Pork roll (lack of), egg and cheese

We paid over $6 for a sandwich with the shit end of the pork roll, not even an entire piece to cover the whole sandwich, little bits of the shit end of the roll. Bagel was also wrong and it's stale. This was always our go-to but we are really super disappointed. You cannot charge $6 for a sandwich with little bits of the shit end of the pork roll.

Bagel and Lox with pickle and macaroni salad plate. hits the spot!

I had a craving for A bagel and lox and of course I had to have the side of pickle and macaroni salad to boot! E Street bagels is not only a fun man but also a bagel place that has a lot of care and real mom and Pop feel their food. Everything is extremely fresh, as can be witnessed by the stream of people who come in on the weekend mornings. The sandwiches are extremely reasonable. Most people seem to get the pork roll egg and cheese, ham egg and cheese or egg sandwiches. In my case the salmon lox was reasonably priced at $7.50 and a large coffee with refills off for about nine dollars. Most people seem to pick up at this location. In my case I did bring an iPad to puruse as I spend a lazy Sunday morning. I do enjoy comfortable sitting furniture and I have to say that the decor is basically a standard deli. However this is the struggle I have usually most breakfast places being not a coffee shop design but rather a pick up and go type of establishment. So overall I posted the picture of the bagel and lox which was excellent and a worthwhile Sunday outing!

Chicken salad on whole wheat bagel. Featuring pickle slice and pasta salad :)

I really wanted to give this place 4 stars based on prior reviews, which was the main reason I decided to check it out. Maybe it was because I walked in sometime between 1-2pm on a Tuesday afternoon, but I was not particularly impressed with the food or service. Since I had heard the bagel sandwiches were good, I opted for a chicken salad on whole wheat bagel w/lettuce and tomato. The girl behind the counter who took my order seemed like she'd rather be anywhere else but there - the young man who rang up my order, however, was polite and pleasant. The chicken salad was decent, the bagel not so fresh. When I walked in, they were in the middle of sweeping the floor so all the chairs had been propped upside down on the counters. Not the most inviting to stay, so I opted to take mine to go. Based on what others have highlighted, I would go back for breakfast but would not rush back for lunch.

One egg, one piece of cheese and one piece of bacon broken in pieces RIPOFF

NO! Honestly it looked dirty and a little sketchy but Meemaws was packed and we were starving so we just figured we'd grab some breakfast sandwiches..what a rip off first of all she overcharged us and when we questioned her we got an eye roll but she admitted that she overcharged us and gave us 450 back she acted as if it was our fault. My egg sandwich had one Fried egg, one piece of cheese and one piece of bacon broken into pieces and it cost $5.35 a bottle of water is $3.50, coffee was cold..ugh don't waste your money!

Really great bagel and service for E Street! After spending Summers in Belmar I finally ventured out to give it a try and was blown away by how fresh and friendly everything was. Have your choice between bagels and spreads or opt for something off of their menu. I walked in with a large order of 5 breakfast sandwiches and other goodies and was in and out within 7 minutes. The organization they have with getting the orders done makes for the service to have a smooth rhythm to it. The bagel I ordered wasn't overly toasted (I hate when that happens). It was fresh and eaten quickly. E Street is the local bagel spot for a great reason and should be your bagel spot even if just coming down for a beach day.

Food selection was not replenished in the entire time we were there. Some appeared that it might have been holding since lunchtime. Temperature of the food once removed from under the heating lamps was room temperature. Soups near the Hibachi section had film over the top which shows it has sat untouched for a while. One of the 3 was not at temperature and may have been unplugged. No attendees to the food stations or cleaning. The Hibachi station remained unmanned for most of the stay and had a scarce supply of foods anyway; no sauces in sight for the chef. The flavor of the food I did have was extremely bland, dry and I have had better from many strip mall take out locations. I can continue to write more but if you've read this far, I'm sure you're getting my point. They also have the nerve to add a 12% SERVICE CHARGE to your bill. The service is nothing short of people walking around with an empty look on their faces. Avoid this place and go elsewhere or order take out instead.

There was never a shortage of grilled meats, with staff constantly rotating through and taking a glance at your table to see if you're ready for the next skewer of goodness that they had. All the meat was seasoned wonderfully and were cooked well, with rare and well options. Our favorites: skirt steak (it was so tender and flavorful), picanha, chicken wrapped in bacon (was so smokey & juicy) and finally, the grilled pineapple. You definitely need to stay until you had a taste of that! My one complaint would be that the salad bar/hot buffet dishes weren't changed out nearly enough, but with all the staff working on the meat orders you can't be that upset with that. They did have some great options on the buffet line, my favorite being the chimichurri that paired wonderfully with the steaks. You don't pay for a wonderful "experience" --- that was never part of the package. There is no real "server" when you come here, all of the servers work as a collective --- you call one down, they bring you your drink, another passes by they collect your plate. These workers definitely work in harmony. Now I have to say: this Buffet is a bit pricier than the normal "Flaming Grill & Buffet" --- adults are $23.99 and kids are between $11-16. But remember: you getting not just the food --- your getting what most other buffets don't offer: AN EXPERIENCE. On the positive side, the restaurant was exceptionally clean and spacious with plenty of seating. Since I visited during brunch, it was quite empty, which made for a quiet meal, though it did feel a bit pricey for a solo diner. The Food: Chicken Winng-ers! The were the winners, here. Chicken wings: were easily the highlight of the meal. They arrived crispy and super hot, as if they had just come straight from the kitchen. Sushi: The sushi was okay--decent enough, but not particularly memorable. Disappointments: Unfortunately, several other dishes didn't quite hit the mark. The lobster was far too salty to eat, the ribs were dry and lacked flavor, and the fried scallops were very greasy. Service: I found the staff to be not the friendliest during my visit, which added to the overall "blah" feeling of the food. While this specific meal wasn't for me given the price point (around $28.99 for the buffet), I appreciated the cleanliness of the space. I'm always happy to support local spots, but for the price, I was hoping for a bit more consistency in the food quality. Lobster & Ribs: "I struggled with the ribs being dry and the lobster being too salty to eat. For those who visit often, is this a common issue, or did I just catch them on an off day?"
