    Crispy Fried Pork Belly
    Todd M.

This place is very spacious and has vibes of a coffee shop. Couple tvs playing above the bar and nice cool ac. Today I got the fried pork belly. It was pretty fat. I miss the crispy pata. It wasn't on the menu. Service is very fast and before you order...ask them what they recommend.

I've been here at Eagle Cafe many times from the days when my office was above the restaurant around 40 years ago. The restaurant has gone through many owners and transitions through the years. Its current manifestation isn't that great. Willy and I usually rotate between Eagle Cafe and Tanaka Saimin when we are tired of eating hostess bar food. Bar food can be exceptional depending on the kitchen mama, but is way more expensive than at local restaurants. We have been to Eagle Cafe several times in the last six months but this Wednesday night may have been the last time for a while. We got to Eagle Cafe about 8:15 and there were only three other parties there. The restaurant closes at 9:00. They have live music M-F until 8:30. This Wednesday they had a solo guitarist who played covers of popular hits. Nothing wrong with his performance. And Eagle Cafe is one of the only family restaurants that employs locals musicians so that is commendable. The food prices are decent. Willy's sizzling hamburger steak with onions and mushrooms was only $20.99. And my pork chops was only $18.99. My diet soda was $3.50. And the menu selection has most of the typical diner dishes local families enjoy. The service is friendly and efficient. The waitress with the tattoos is very patient. Willy always asks multiple questions about various dishes he never intends to order every time we are there. Maybe she doesn't remember but I do. It can be irritating. The worst part of Eagle is the food. It is hard to screw up rice, which tastes ok, even at the end of the night. And the mac potato salad is pretty good, especially when you add a little salt. But Willy's sizzling hamburger steak was drenched in brown gravy and the mushrooms and onions were sparse. He was not happy with the taste. My pork chops were extremely thin, about 1/4". And deep fried, making them extremely difficult to slice with the cut-rate Chinese steak knife provided. I have the calluses as proof. Anyway, overall just ok but certain dishes are not great.

Had breakfast here before but decided to take my friend here for dinner before her flight to Vegas . Live entertainment on a Thursday night . Service was ok and the food was a solid 3.5 stars . My friend order their prime rib she requested well done . It came out medium well. She sent it back and the second result was ok . I ordered their sizzling hamburger steak w/ onions and mushrooms. Also it was alright it was a fresh hamburger patty with all the fixings. Support local

update 6-20-2025 Let me start off with the service. We were seated as soon as we walked in. Our server Stephanie was friendly and checked up on us through out our meal. Today I decided to have the French Toast Combo. And my wife ordered The mini breakfast. She ordered the mini with spam and one egg and toast. My French toast was made with sweet bread. The bacon and egg came out as ordered. The restaurant itself had that clean and inviting atmosphere. Good Food and Great Service. Enjoy

We love having a great meal at Eagle Cafe . It is located near Honolulu International Airport and Downtown Honolulu. We had their Pork Belly brown rice and garden salad . The teriyaki butter fish with tofu , white rice and garden salad . The own Lisa is always cheerful and welcoming

On vacation and was tired from eating restaurant food. I wanted something that tasted like home. I ordered the oxtail soup. It was superb. Tasted like home. Tasted like an aunty was back in the kitchen cooking. The soup was clear. Whomever made the soup probably double boiled and stood over the soup to skim the grease from the top of the pot. If the grease is not skim, it will cause stomach aches in is some people after consumption. The chef used fresh Chinese mustard greens with whole shiitake mushrooms, sprinkle of cilantro, and a few peanuts. The peanuts were not overpowering but just enough for taste. So delicious that I asked the waitress to bring a side of rice in a bowl so that my daughter may have a taste of the soup.

1 star for good service and a big clean place. As for my food, yuck. I got the garlic ahi belly and it was horrible. It definitely was NOT ahi. The fish did not taste good. It had a really fishy taste to it. It was also really white and flakey, Not how I know ahi to be. I could not bring myself to finish it. We also got a saimin for our kids and we found pieces of plastic in it. I'm guessing from the noodle package. I would not recommend this place and we most likely won't be back.

Eagle cafe is a nice local eatery that serves comfort foods. The ambiance is old school like in the 70s. The service was very good. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. Chicken Papaya soup - 3.5/5 The broth was good and tasty, but little on the salty side. The chicken consisted of wing flats and drumettes. The grab papaya was tender, not mushy or too firm. Since were arrived around 7:30p, the chicken have been in the soup for hours under heat. This made the chicken a little hard and dry. If the chicken wasn't overcooked, I would give the this dish 4.5/5. Mahi Mahi- 4/5 The Mahi Mahi was very tasty. The fillets were a bit small for our liking. That said, the Mahi Mahi was cooked perfectly. The fillets were tender, not hard and over cooked. Just increase the quantity of Mahi Mahi a little more. I will definitely return. Give Eagle Cafe a try. The good and service is worth a visit.

Update 9-4-25after my service for my car was done my husband said where to eat. He suggested eagle cafe. He ordered local breakfast 2 eggs any way you choose and choice of meat and your choice of toast, rice, or hash browns. I chose combo pancake. Comes with 2 pancakes, choice of meat, and your choice of eggs. I thought I ordered the mini combo pancake breakfast but when it came it was the bigger combo pancake breakfast it was filling. My husband breakfast was good he said I brought home half of my pancake.

Sizzling Hamburger Steak eith mushrooms, onion, and gravy

Please don't let these photos deceive you. They look good, but in reality they weren't good at all. Here's the reasons: Hamburger steaks were hard and difficult to cut with my fork. Never had a hamburger patty that I couldn't cut with my fork. It should've been soft and tender. But it was tough. Tough to cut and tough to chew. Gravy was salty. Onions were scant, just a tiny bit on the plate along with the mushrooms. Kalbi ribs were tough. My husband had difficulty getting the meat off the bones. The rice. OMG who serves rice that's been sitting out, cold, dry and hard!!! Seriously being honest here. There were rice grains that were dried and hard. Biting into them was very unpleasant. Rice should be served hot and fresh out of the pot, instead we got cold hard rice that's probably been sitting in an opened rice cooker. We tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. We haven't been there in months since our last experience was also pretty bad. Sorry to say that we won't be going back to Eagle cafe. If they don't take pride in the quality of their food and keep serving rubbery hamburger patties and tough to eat kalbi ribs we're not getting the quality that we paid for. Over $20 for that Hamburger Steak and over $25 for that Kalbi plate. Not worth what we paid.

Service was fast plenty of seats limited front parking, more parking at the back of the building. Restaurant was empty and quiet, waitress tend to us immediately and was friendly. The creamy mahi was delicious, mister ate all of the deep fried pork chops. There are TVs for your enjoyment.

Making reservations on opentable is ezpz. We had tickets for 730, so we had an early dinner on a saturday at 5pm. Not busy when we arrived but by 6pm, it was packed. So make the reservation. I ordered the carbonara which was creamy and delicious. I'm not italian so i don't know how authentic it was but it was GOOD. My date ordered a salad with Korean Fried Chicken and beets. I don't know anything about beats but the KFC was FANTASTIC. Sugary deliciousness. We had a slice of olive oil cake with a spoon of rocky road to go with it. OMG. The olive oil cake is so delicious. It's almost like a pound cake but i guess made with olive oil so it also had this nice crust to it. But I would come back every single day for the rocky road ice cream. It was just rocky road but it was really good. Prices were average for honolulu. And service was good, not great. I guess the inside is pretty spacious in terms of tables but they pack you in like sardines so you can't help but be in your neighbors conversation. And it's a bit loud. So maybe not the ideal first date unless you go at an off hour where it's less crowded. Or maybe the bar seating would also work. 10/10 would 100% recommend to anyone.

After dinner, we ordered a few items from the bakery to eat on the plane. You have to take a number and wait for them to call it. I got 2 kouign Amannn, 2 Dubai coco puff, and half dozen green tea puff. The kouign amann is a circular croissant. I liked that it was soft and flaky and had a sweet, crispy glaze over it. The Dubai coco puff had a strong pistachio crunchy flavor but I thought it was way too sweet for me personally. The Star of the show are the green tea cream puffs! We were actually asked about 3 times by 3 different servers if we wanted a different drink besides water, which was ok with us. We appreciated them being very attentive to each table's needs. Food: 10/10. I ordered the Veggie Eggs Benedict and it tasted really good. I liked how the ingredients taste fresh and how the benny complemented very well with the potatoes. I also sampled my brother's fried rice and it was amazing. The Extreme Mess was flavorful too, a little bit on the saltier side for me but my boyfriend enjoyed it. Ambiance: We were seated outside but it was covered and well-ventilated. The place is well-maintained and clean, and has a "local brunch place" vibe which I liked. Parking: We lucked out and got parking at the available space by their lot, around 11am on a Saturday. There's also street parking available.

It was so sad this business is closing down by Oct 31st. With rising food costs, inflation and…read morestaffing, it's understandable but I wish best endeavors for Chef Jason Peel and his staff. My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

The staff were friendly and very helpful with giving us recommendations. We ordered 3 appetizers and 2 entrees, and honestly it was too much food for us. We had leftovers for breakfast the next day! - For appetizers we got: Ulu Tots, Japanese Eggplant, and Corn Beignets. The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.
