Takeout lunch from Mapunapuna, Honolulu, Hawaii... Masa's Cafeteria has been around for decades. My baby sister said that her friend in high school used to work there! I asked her what she wanted to eat - and I rattled off some menu items. When I got to the free private parking lot and walked inside, I realized that there's no dine-in anymore. It's just a large space where parties used to happen? The woman at the cash register was helpful. I asked for Hawaiian plate - she said, "Only on Fridays." I asked for Pastrami Sandwich - she replied, "Only on Thursdays." I asked for Chicken Hekka - she answered, "After 10:30." Wow... I struck out three times. I asked, "What do you have then?" She pointed to the Daily Specials list and the hot entrées in the warmers. I selected Hamburger Steak, Boneless Korean Fried Chicken, and Beef Stew. When I got home, I told my sister about the encounter and we laughed... everything we talked about wasn't available... LOL! We tasted the three dishes: Korean Boneless Fried Chicken had a light batter and subtle, pleasant flavor. Beef Stew was tasty and the meat was very tender! I liked the Hamburger Steak the best because of the savory gravy, slightly crisp onions, and homemade patties! The rice and macaroni salad were additional comfort foods! Overall - generous portions and great, old school experience!

Food is amazing, hard to beat .. talk about old school of grandmas cooking .. quality over quantity, not here you got both quality and quantity. Plate is so big and heavy , you can feed two people. Don't believe what I'm saying, come see and try for yourself.. promise you won't be disappointed !! Mahalo masa's

Great find! Masa's cafeteria is also owned by IGE's but this location is in the Mapunapuna/Industrial area of salt lake. We all know that this area is notorious for NO PARKING! but they actually have a good amount of parking stalls available. They're located in a corner/up a little hill when you enter the parking lot. i kind of wonder if it's a little elevated since this area can be flooded sometimes. I've only come for the thursday specials - I really enjoyed the pot roast and the pastrami sandwiches. The portions are really big and can be shared between 2 people and the pricing is pretty decent. There is a take out window where you can order - so you can totally bring your dog! However, no where to really sit and eat so it's mostly takeout. Service depends who helps you! the first time the lady i got was really nice! the second time the older lady/grandma meant well but she had to make my order a total of 3 times for it to be right. i actually drove off and noticed it an hour later and made it back in time before they closed. They fixed it partially but it was still wrong. Luckily i was still in the parking lot this time so i had her fix it again. i guess third times a charm sometimes! There was also a price difference (i paid more) but it's fine i just wanted it fixed.

I decided to try this place for lunch, it's street parking it can park next door and shop at Fisher Hawaii first. They still don't have dine in since covid and no plans to add it back. They have a takeout counter to order food. I ordered a mini turkey with mashed potatoes and there was stuffing under the turkey. It was good, reminds me of comfort home cooking. I couldn't tell if there was sour cream in the mashed potato or if it went sour, but i ended up eating it, They open for breakfast and lunch only with their daily menu on their website. It was crowded w construction workers in the area but service was quick! i think i'll come back and try breakfast.

Love this old school mom & pop feel.

The best comfort food. Haven't been back here in like 20+ years but the place still looks the same minus the closed dining area. I got a combo Baked Spaghetti and the Baked Beans with Hotdog specials plus fried rice. Was ono (delicious)! Comfort food reminds me of hanabata days (small kid time). Got one kanak attack (fell asleep) after attempting to grind all of this massive plate lunch. Employees are nice. I think most of customers work in the area and walk there.

My friend and I had been talking about our andagi craving all last week, so I went to stop here to pick up lunch today. Now these are some plate lunches! No wonder people just line up - it's the food is delicious and plates are plentiful - all at great prices. Curryburger Stew could have a bit more curry flavor but I really like the Teriburger Loaf so I got a mixed plate with the two. Roast Pork plate with mashed is always a winner *the pork is always so soft and tender!

Only open on weekdays. Made time to go there and get there lunch options. They have set menu options each day during the weekday. Everything looks good! The food reminds me of school meals I used to have. Parking available. I got the Mini Pork cutlet $10.50~- Gravy with pork cutlet over rice. I'm so glad the gravy wasn't too salty. The pork was thin. I liked it! Great spot for cheap eats. I would come back to try other options!

We recently celebrated our daughter's 1st Birthday. Everything was amazing. We had about 150 guests with Lion Dance, balloon twisters, face painters, Photo Booth and DJ. The food was so Ono and we had so much leftovers. Everyone enjoyed themself and we had plenty of time for the program and time for dancing.

Small fragments of bones found in Masa's Cafeteria Wednesday Special Turkey Plate.

My family and I have been frequenting Masa's Cafeteria in Mapunapuna for over 20+ years. A couple days ago, I ordered their Wednesday special turkey plate and found so many BONES! The bones were small fragments that probably fell off the meat, but with the gravy, it wasn't until I bit into one that I realized it was a bone. I unfortunately found many more bones in my plate and was not able eat my food. I called the next day to report it, and the female server transferred the call to her manager. I explained the situation for awareness especially to prevent someone from choking on a bone! The manager asked who the server was (I don't know her name but can identify her if I saw her), said sorry and hung up. It was disappointing that they didn't seem to take much interest with my concern.

Moanalua Gardens is a nicely maintained wide open park with many large "Hitachi" monkeypod trees…read morespread out. Definitely more so a park than a garden. Been wanting to visit here for years as the last time was probably in elementary school for a field trip, and I forgot what exactly was here. It was closed during and after covid for years, then reopened to private functions only, and had no idea when it was reopened to the public. $10 for adults ($4 for Kama'aina and military) 7 for ages 6-12, under 6 (and Kama'aina and military) is free. Moanalua Gardens is conveniently located right next to the H-1 freeway. Heading westbound direction is very easy. Note: the parking entrance is literally right before the off ramp. Look for the "Moanalua Gardens" signs. Take the Tripler exit. Look for the entrance on the right. If you're on the off-ramp, you passed it. But that's okay! You can make a right (H-1 eastbound, you'll make a left at the Triper off-ramp), then left on Mahiole St, and turn in the next driveway. You'll drive through the service entrance to the parking lot. Plenty of parking! Pay at the entrance kiosk where they also sell snacks and drinks. Once inside, there's a moss/algae and leaf filled pond. There's koi fish, but the water is dark and murky, you can barely see their bright colors. King Kamehameha V's cottage that looks like a like a usual house. A Chinese style structure that looks like it has seen better days. Both are not accessible. As for the rest, the "Hitachi" monkeypod trees are all well maintained. Even though, there's PLENTY of monkeypod trees around the island, there's not many that's grown in this wide, umbrella shaped figure with branches close to the ground. Overall, it's cool to see the umbrella shaped Hitachi trees in a wide open, park-like space, but the other areas are not very well-maintained. There's not much else to do with some places restricted making it difficult to appreciate the history and importance. Charging $10 regular entrance fee, even the $4 Kama'aina fee, isn't worth it to just go in a what is basically a park. Isn't Hitachi paying atleast $400,000 per year to use the image of the tree in their advertising?

Entree fees are a bit pricey if u not a kamaaina @ $10, so minus a star. Restrooms available, no food or drink to buy, so bring your own bentos and mat, only about 4 tables. Inside, the decor could be updated, but it's functional. We parked in the members' area for free because security said no members would be coming at this time. Today's visit was because of the MAKAHIKI festival which my sons Cornwall and Hula Halal had performed for today. Aside of the activities for the MAKAHIKI festival, the performance was awesome. Being that they did a lot on their own by themselves for the first time they did well. HOWEVER, to hold an event & to utilize these facilities, you must have MILITARY CONNECTIONS. OF COURSE, Public access is available to civilians, but with LIMITED ACCESS to the beachfront & shores ONLY. Civilians are NOT ALLOWED to use or rent the facilities. I asked the CITY & COUNTY and they said this place IS NOT on their list & as far as for the STATE, they said they have no rental information on these facilities. So... that means... it's through MILITARY OFFICIALS ONLY! To be honest, I'm SURE military will say it's because this is "PEARL HARBOR", where their military is located, they have to take precautions to whom has access to the area. WHICH FOR ME, KINDA SUCKS because this place WAS once where my kupunas (older aunts & uncles) used swim & look for oyesters for food & pearls for jewelry/decorations, WAAY before the HARBOR was built for the military and now... a grandniece of theirs, a KANAKA, has LIMITED access to the area. As a civilian... we're FORBIDDEN from using "THEIR FACILITY". Doesn't really seem fair, doesn't it?! But that's the so called RULES. let's hope in due time there is a way to allow civilians the use of this area WITHOUT military connections. Anywho, if you have a chance to rent this spot, GO FOR IT!!!! And be sure to TAKE CARE OF THE PLACE TOO! Just because military has the say over this area, doesn't mean we should destroy or ruin the property itself. It is still OUR AINA! And Regardless if your ARE KANAKA OR NOT, just treat this place as if it was YOUR OWN HOME. And if you MISTREAT it and say that's how you'd treat your own home, then I can only imagine how embarrassed your parents must feel to have raised such a sloppy individual. POOR THING, YOU... SAD...
