I've been going to earls since they were just a small shop in Kaimuki with only a few sandwiches on their chalk board. I've loved them for years. From highschool through out my college experience and until now. I love their French dip but for some reason they decided to get rid of it. Honestly it was the only sandwich that was worth going back for over and over again. People even raved about it and they made a French dip 2.0 for a special! But now I don't know why they removed it and the workers say it's just gone. So I'm disappointed. Before saying I should try something new, I've tried a multitude of their other sandwiches but the only sandwich that got me thinking about them when it's been awhile and wanting to go back was that garlicky French dip. First time trying, chicken sandwich was extremely hard, might've been over done, (but me personally I don't mind chicken being overdone because at least I won't get sick.) The flavors were ok. I was very disappointed in the smallest sub sandwich I've ever had in my life! 1st time there n the last.

Saw this restaurant featured on Guy Hagi's 'Cheap Eats' and I was excited to try it out, especially since they seem to have what looks like the old style pastrami sandwich ; thinly sliced pastrami with lots of fat and greasy! With help from the very pleasant, courteous and helpful order taker/cashier I ordered "the Drew" sandwich, which has pastrami, swiss cheese, regular mayo, pickle & tomato. My Aunt also ordered "the Drew", hers almost exactly as mine but with mustard and no pickle. Although, the sandwiches looked phenomenal, the pastrami meat was a bit salty, turning my Aunt's and my excitement to disappointment! We also ordered 1 order of their "waffle fries" extra crispy; boy you get what you order because the fries were excellently crispy! And my Aunt ordered the "Plantation Iced Tea" while I ordered the Guava Green Tea, of which, both tasted great and was quite refreshing for the hot day we were having! All-in-all, I would give this place my personal 3 1/2 Shaka rating but cannot give half points so it falls back to a 3-rating because the saltiness was real bummer! read more

Delicious and large enough to split. Can't beat that whole grain mustard. My son is a huge fan of the Cubano. He eats the whole thing and won't share (insert sad face here). OK, so first run with this place didn't go so well so I decided to come back and it was much better. I got the honey hot chicken sandwich and everything tasted extremely fresh. This time my sandwich was loaded and the bread was still pretty soft, not crunchy the seating is along the window And they also have a seats on the inside. We were in the neighborhood and craving a sandwich. So we used our Yelp app and found Earl Sandwich. Man I wish I discovered this place earlier. And it's located in a complex that we always frequent. Earl sandwich is located in the lot that has Happy Day, Big City Diner, and Maguroya. They are a small shop that you can just grab and go with your sandwich. They have a few tables to sit at but most people just picked up their sandwich and left. They have a chalkboard menu up where you can see the sandwich specials of the day. It was quite difficult to decide which one to eat. They all looked good. We asked the guy what was popular and he said the French dip sandwich and the brisket sandwich. So my husband got the brisket and I got the French dip. I'm not one for French dip sandwich, but this was the most delicious sandwich. The meat was nice and tender and it was covered with a gruyere cheese which made it taste better. It had a green paste on the meat also. My husband enjoyed his brisket sandwich but he said the French dip was better. I totally agree. I told my husband that was the best sandwich I ever ate. I love me a good sammy. I often crave one, so luckily when my cousin asked wanted to grab a good sammy for lunch, I told him we must go to Earls! Located smack in Kaimuki, where Big City Diner and Mokes is, is this tiny sandwich shop. You'll see their colorful sign on the wall. It's literally a hole in the wall where it's quite impossible to social distance if there's a person inside ordering. Luckily, we went early knowing there would be a crowd waiting. I got my go to Italian, while my cousins got the avocado bahn mi and brisket. We decided to wait outside as it's quite stifling hot in this tiny shop. I give props to the workers inside. Even with no trade winds and the hot sun barreling on us outside, it still was much cooler than in. Because no one else was there, our wait was relatively quick. We got out Sammy's and decided to eat it at the beach. Unraveling these gorgeousness is part of the fun. Nicely wrapped in brown paper capturing all the extra juiciness from our sandwiches. We were so hungry that I forgot to take pics of the other ones. But pictured is the Italian. It's HUGE and full of flavor. The only downside of this sandwich and their other subs on baguettes is the outside is hard!!! The sharp edges will cut the roof of your mouth and is why I had to dock one star. So I like to peel the outer layer of this bread. But the inside is nice and fluffy. Definitely an amazing sandwich place if your craving one. If you're coming from town side, there's also their second location in Kakaako. Both have different specials, so would recommend following them on IG to see what's new. It's pretty much a hole-in-the-wall joint, and the workers are super personable. During my visit, I ordered the Fun Goat ($9.50 + tax) and my friend ordered Turkey Jam Sam ($10 + tax). Yay for new location that's even more convenient for me! Market city shopping center next to cafe kaila. Already been here multiple times to try different sandwiches because I love sandwiches! All the ones I've tried were so good the only one that I didn't care for was the fun goat lol. The goat cheese was a little too funky for me lol. I'll add the pictures of all the ones I've tried,most notable ones are the meatball (special), French dip, roast beef (omg it was sooooo good I hope they have it again!!) Turkey jam regular menu item I think is one of my go tos the onion jam is sooooo good!. I also had their shrimp Po boy special that was very tasty and flavorful! I just love sammies and was recommended EARL so I gave it a try since I was in the area. I decided on the French dip because they had me at pepper jack. EARL Kaimuki is located behind Happy Days Chinese restaurant, you're greeted by friendly staff in this tiny hole in the wall that only one party order at a time is possible during this social distance era. You are able to order ahead and avoid the wait which not long at all but it's made as you order and is absolutely with the wait. I couldn't get to it right away because I was till on a few more errands but when I finally got home to unveil the yumminess it was still warm and delicious!! On 11th street there is a parking lot behind the subway and cosmetology/hair school. Parking is free if you are in there less than 20 minutes! And $0.75/hour (not bad!). E.A.R.L. Sandwich is a small lunch spot with many choices of sandwiches, salads, and sides. I ordered the Beet Sandwich and my husband ordered the Brisket sandwich. The nice lady there made the suggestion between the vegetarian sub or beet sandwich (because I asked) and she said the beet salad taste wise is good and the veg sub was big. I like the choice I made! It was flavorful, healthy, and vegetarian. It had beets, avocado, a lot of spinach, and tomatoes.. The spinach was all bunched up in the middle. She also told us the top sold sandwich for my husband. He really enjoyed his brisket sandwich. It came with sauce/dip on the side and loaded with a lot of meat. He said it was so flavorful he didn't need the dipping sauce and he liked that it was filled with meat. (You know sometimes when there's food that has an overload of meat and it's not good because it doesn't have flavor? Well that was not the case here! Had one sandwich as a meal (+ $3.50). I've been here twice, and the second time around wasn't as good as the first. The shop smelled kinda funky like B.O. and unless you can snag street parking you have to go into a paid lot. Initially I thought it was a bit pricey (just looking over the menu) but the food was good overall. My favorite thing here is the spicy caprese ciabatta! Spicy caprese ciabatta: two slices of buttery spicy ciabatta bread cut into four portions topped with tomato, mozzarella, yummy fresh pesto EVOO and a tasty balsamic reduction. This was perfection to me. French dip: so meaty cheesy and good! We did order it plain (meat and cheese only, no sauce or spreads). One of the best parts of this sandwich is the bread. It was crunchy, soft, and flavorful at the same time. *I did order this again off the menu with all the sauce/spreads to try and I didn't like it unfortunately. I wasn't a fan of the bacon jam. Fun goat vegetarian: I was a little skeptical because of the appearance, but once I took a bite the flavor was poppin'! The goat cheese and sautéed mushrooms went so well together.
