I'm a huge fan of Earl's in Kaimuki but I come to Kakaako for the specials. Specials usually happen on weekends with some sprinkled throughout the week, check their Instagram. One of my favorites is Earl Burger, when they have a variety of burgers to choose from that go great with their fries. The burgers are absolutely delicious, just high quality all around. My favorite is the mushroom swiss, which was loaded with cheese. I'm only taking away a star because recently I've noticed the portion sizes for some specials (specifically seafood) are eyebrow-raisingly small. Perhaps it's because I never come right when they open? First I got the lobster roll and it looked kinda sad. The bread itself was shorter than I thought and not that much lobster. Especially compared to what they show on Instagram and what all the famous food bloggers get, there's a difference. Maybe they do just flex for the gram... It just seems like they're trying to stretch the amount they have a little too much. Kind of same thing with the shrimp toast a few days ago, though not as bad. I had to spread the small dollops of salad around to make it look nice. No shade though, I still love Earl's and will continue coming forever. read more

We have been to Earl Kakaako many times, not sure why I haven't written a review yet! Definitely glad that we gave it a try because EARL lives up to its name.... Eat A Real Lunch!! We started going here for their amazing lobster rolls that came with a side of liquid gold (butter) to drizzle on the huge claws and lobster meat! We've also tried the crab cake sandwiches, and the pastrami single! All were awesome! This has become one of our favorite spots for lunch to try their special creations! Most recently, we've been loving the chicken sandwiches! They are a must try! We've had sandwiches from Popeye's, Left Wing Kakaako, Jollibee, Teddy's Bigger Burger, Outback Steakhouse, and this is our favorite! The only bad part is that you can't get them all the time, they are only served on special days!! So we all agreed to go there and check it out! *** Keep In Mind *** There is a parking structure in SALT where you can pay to park your car. I don't think EARL validates for you parking in SALT (but there is a 30 min grace period). *** My Thoughts *** *Spicy Chicken Club ~ (8.5/10) // Price ~ $16.50 This club was huge. It came with fried chicken, turkey, bacon, avocado, remoulade, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and red onion!! WHEW! My friend and I actually had to split it. But wow this was super good. It wasn't overly spicy! And you could definitely taste the pesto & hot sauce in the sandwich. Just note if you eat this, your hands will get a little dirty for sure! *Beckys Sweet Tea ~ (8/10) The sweet tea was super refreshing. It paired so well with the Spicy Chicken Club! I also loved how the tea was not overly sweetened as well. *Crikle Cut Fries ~ (8/10) The fries were really good! It was very crispy and it came with this ketchup they make in house I think? The ketchup was super good!! It had a fall flavor to it, but it was a nice switch up to your basic ketchup sauce! I rarely find sandwich joints that blow me away. EARL has been on my bookmark list for close to two years now and we finally made it over for lunch. It wasn't too crowded, but it was obvious that it often gets slammed. There are about five tables outside and a few more options indoors, so definitely be prepared for takeout if it's too busy. We sat outside at one of the benches, which was great. We had been eyeing a few different menu items, but the sweet guy at the counter helped us decide what to get. We shared the avocado banh mi with the spicy chicken and the pastrami double. Husband also got lured in by the bacon cheese fries, which I didn't complain about. The food came out in a timely manner with everything we needed! My only complaint would be the option to be served our food on actual plates with actual silverware and cups when dining in to be less wasteful. Every bite was delicious. We talked for way too long to try and decide which sandwich was superior but there really was no way to decide. They were so different, but both so delicious. A really great combo for sharing to get the best of both worlds. The banh mi was fresh and colorful, while the burger was pure meat, but perfectly prepared. We both agree that it was one of the best burgers we have had on island. Fries were also enjoyable, but not necessarily top on my list or anything to come here for. I Love EARL's! The staff is laid back and welcoming and everything I've ever ordered here is on point. My go to is the Turkey Jam sandwhich but they do a phenomenal French dip. Went during constant showers today. The outside seating was partially covered but by the time we finished eating the rain picked up. The French Dip sandwich was good but I did wish the bread was toasted a bit longer. The middle felt a tad soggy (I know I'm dipping it in au jus anyway lol), but overall the taste was pretty on point. My one true gripe was I wish there was more au jus since the cup felt a tad small and it was actually hard to dip my sandwich in once I reached the halfway point. The Guava Green Tea was good but I wish it had a little more guava flavor. It mainly tasted of green tea but wasn't overly sweet or sugary. read more

EARL Kakaako gets my vote for the best crab cake sandwich on the island. If you want lumps of crab meat, no filler, and a small bun, come here and get the crab cake sandwich when it's on special. The sandwich cost $23 but it will be the best thing you eat all weekend. Besides the sandwich, you get a side of coleslaw. You can also add on the crab soup for $7 but the sandwich by itself already keeps me full till dinner. If you're not interested in crab, they have a variety of other sandwiches on the menu. The spicy chicken club is popular one but if the crab cake sandwich is not available, I go for the Italian sandwich which is loaded with salty meats. It is delicious! They have specials every weekend so check their instagram to see what's coming up. For parking, you can park in the SALT at Kakaako garage or the HMart garage and get validation. Their inside dining area is closed but they have a couple of tables outside. Depending on what the specials are, you might find yourself waiting for 30 minutes or more to order. If you're not ordering the specials, you can do a phone order and pick up later. read more

If you're looking to get in and out in an hour, since parking is only FREE for an hour, this place MAY be too busy for you! I blame myself because it's lunchtime and there's so many great places to eat in the Kakaako area! It took about 5 minutes to order the food and then I was told there will be a 25 minute wait... I'm still waiting. The place is pretty loud and pretty crowded inside. They have seating outside, but there is a section with no shade. Now for the food... I ordered the Earl double which is two patties thousand island dressing, pickle, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, and American cheese, which I substituted for Swiss. I don't exactly know how to explain it, but the hamburger was GRADE AAA! It was like ground sirloin it was SO SO GOOD. I haven't had such a top tier hamburger in a long, long time. And the waffle fries OMG-I thought it was gonna be your run of the mill waffle fries like Chick-fil-A, it was not! It was like potato chips met french fries, and they had a waffle baby! So good! When your sandwich shop's name has Earl in it, I have high expectations and hopes because Earl of Sandwich comes to my mind. Fortunately, I enjoyed their sandwiches so yes I approve this place. It is located in the same area or building as H-Mart. So you can park there for 1-hour and it's free. For now, there's a couple of tables outside but there's a waiting list that you can sign up. I say just eat them in your car. I got their pastrami and Italian sandwiches. It's a foot long sandwich and you can definitely share with someone. It is higher end of a sandwich but I say it's worth getting a fresh sandwich. -Pastrami sandwich came in a light, soft sour dough like buns. The meat was juicy and soft and awesome to my taste. (It's hard to find good pastrami sandwiches in Hawaii) -Italian sub was pretty standard but I thought it could have used more veggies in my opinion. Sorry, I struggled with sandwich photos. I'm sad to say that I didn't like EARL in Kakaako. We decided to go to EARL because my boyfriend said it's on some list of top sandwiches in Oahu. So naturally, we decided to go! FOOD: We shared the Chicken Po' Boy sandwich and the loaded crinkled fries with jalapeños. The sandwich just didn't blow my mind, especially because the picture in the article we saw showed a huge piece of chicken. The sauce on the chicken was okay. One positive thing I'll say is that the sandwich was very long - enough for my boyfriend and me to share. The fries were the biggest disappointment; they were the crinkle fries we buy at Costco that are pre-frozen, the cheese was just your generic nacho cheese from a can and the jalapeños were also your generic jalapeños from a can. Disappointing because this is something I would've purchased from a snack stand at a little league game. SERVICE: Because of COVID, there's only outside seating - one round table and another rectangular long table. I'm not sure how often the outside tables are cleaned. You can wait outside for your order and they will call your number to pick up your order. LOCATION: It's right next to Queen's Urgent Care in Kakaako, right diagonally from SALT. Will I return? My wife wanted to try this place. I'm so glad she did! It seems like several of the menu items have been removed, including the garlic fries. After ordering, we waited outside to keep a social distance. After about 20 minutes, I think I heard my name called so I went in to check and it was done. Not sure if the sandwich was done earlier because no one came outside to tell us. The sandwiches were great! A lot of delicious pastrami and flavorful sauce and cheese. My wife was super happy with her pastrami burger which made me happy to see her enjoying it! My sandwich was super oily, which is probably why it was so delicious. Got an email that Soft Shell Crab Sandwich was on special. Um yes please! Took orders from the office to see if I could pickup for anyone...4 soft shell crabs, 1 Drew, 1 French Dip. Everyone was happy. French Dip I was told had a lot of meat and was yummy, but Pig and the Lady is Pho French Dip is preferred. Drew was a pastrami he said was very good. Soft shell crab was a hit. The crab itself was perfect. Nice light batter that did not take away from the crab taste. The bread was toasted so I thought came out a little oily. Texas Toast kinda bread so even squashed was good and didn't get all nasty soggy. But I had to cut of the massive crusts and even some of the bread because it was just too filling and the crab's weird shape doesn't reach all parts of the bread. I think raw onions added would have been perfect. No side salad, so I ordered a normal size one because I thought I needed more veggies. Beautiful salad. Romaine with hard boiled egg, avo, cucs, bacon bits, tomato onion (I stole that and added to my sandwich)...and some green dressing that was super tasty. Lobster Roll in Kaka'ako, Honolulu, Hawaii... Somehow, my friend, Lora, knew that EARL Kaka'ako served a special Lobster Roll. We tried to get some one day, but they may have run out? They were so busy that they didn't answer the phone. I called the Kaimuki location, but they don't serve Lobster Rolls there. Hmmm... On Sunday, 11-29-20, I was searching my Instagram for late lunch ideas. I saw that EARL Kaka'ako had "a lot" of Lobster Rolls and they closed at 4pm. I called at 3pm to make sure that they still had some. The gal who answered the phone reassured me that I'll get one. I told her that I was coming from Kaneohe and I'd be there in half an hour... No problem! I phoned Lora and told her the good news! She said she could be there in 10 minutes! Yay! Our Lobster Roll dream was going to come true! We both found free parking (metered street parking is free on Sundays). There was a short line that moved quickly. It's takeout only at this time, so, after paying, we just waited on the sidewalk (there are a couple of umbrellas for shade) and our names were called. I enjoy being called "Hello Kitty", so, I was thrilled when my order was ready! Lora took her Lobster Roll home and I took mine on a photo shoot at Kewalo Basin Park. After that, I did a few errands, so, by the time I got home, my drawn butter was solid and my bread was soggy. I warmed up the butter in the microwave for 9 seconds and it was fine! The bread still tasted good - I should have eaten it sooner. I was starving! I dug into the pasta salad first and noticed the shrimp, peas, and imitation crab...yum! It was a bit peppery, and I consumed it all! The pickles and cole slaw were nice sides! They helped me feel less guilty about eating the decadent Lobster Roll. Gosh... The crunchy bacon bits were much appreciated. I was so sad that one bacon bit escaped into my kitchen sink. Yes...I ate in the kitchen because it was a messy roll - especially with the butter! I caught a bunch of lobster that was trying to escape! Hah! Nom nom! It was wonderful and filling! The bread had a sprinkle of parmesan cheese...mmm! Tasty! I wouldn't mind having another Lobster Roll! Even at $24 plus tax, I think the sides were great pairings. They're much better than french fries or potato chips that the other restaurants served! Plate comes with Cole slaw, pasta salad with shrimp mixed in, and a brown sugar butter glaze for the lobster roll. Lobster roll has garlic and bacon on top! At first glance, it looks small but as I bite in there's not as much bread as others to compare. The bread is soft with some garlic topping on bread also. The lobster chunks are juicy and the fresh garlic makes it very yummy. So was it worth it? I would say yes!!!! So if you catch it on their daily special! YOU MUST GET!!! read more

Meats-plentiful. Cheese, veggies, sauce- great mix of flavors. I had to take the chicken cutlet off sandwich and eat separately as sandwich was too big for me to eat--husband ate it fine. I have been wanting to try Earl's forever! I spent some time in town and finally got to get my hands on one of their sandwiches! I opted for their special which was a meatball marinara and also a fried chicken po'boy. The food was really fresh, the ricotta on my sandwich just melted into an gooey heaven. I also really like the sauce on the Chicken po'boy. They have safety precautions implemented due to COVID-19 so we ordered inside and waited outside for our food until someone called us. Social distancing and masks were definitely required. That made me feel safe! I appreciate things like that during this time. Service was average as far as take out goes. Just a tip: Parking in this area is really limited. I think it might be worth it to park at Salt instead of try to find street parking. read more
