OMG! How have I never heard of Earl's before now. I tried the pulled pork and sliced brisket and Mac n cheese. They were all delicious. The meat was smoked very well and fork tender. The sauce wasn't really necessary but added an additional layer of flavor. It's out of the way, but it would be worth the trip over for great food that's very reasonably priced. The only negative is there's no bathroom. If you're going to eat there, go before you get there. read more

This is probably the best and closet thing to North Carolina barbecue that we've had since visiting Chicago! The sauces were awesome and made on-site. BBQ is funny and difficult to smoke consistently. Variance in meat quality, training a staff to actually cut it right, keeping it warm without drying it out, etc. I've been to Earl's three times now. So my daughter and I went in with a 2 year old and 4 year old this morning and I was pleasantly surprised that they had the cartoon channel on. This was a plus because I knew that I was going to be able to enjoy my breakfast! Lol! We both had the biscuits and gravy with brisket and let me tell you... it was to die for! Amazing flavor. Earl's isnt bad. Sandwiches are huge and priced right, sides are delicious. Dining in is a terrible option as its a very small area that's either too hot or too bright with all the sunlight coming in through those huge windows with no form of shade whatsoever. Wish they would package the cole slaw separately from the hot food, make the pulled pork pieces smaller, and work on their soggy fries. Disappointing at best. So, we tried this place after seeing it on FB. We waited in line, in the rain for about 25 minutes. Food order came pretty quick. Girl at the counter was very friendly. Place is very small ( site of the old Duff dogs) I love me some good BBQ. Too bad this place is just blah. Here goes. We tried everything Pulled pork, Ribs, pork tacos, Smoked polish sausage, Salmon, Rib tips and the brisket, even tried the doughnuts at 3 bucks for 3 small doughnuts The brisket was dried out, it was very fatty The ribs tough and dried out The chicken, well, make sure you have a drink, so dry it was hard to swallow. My son liked the pork tacos, I tried them, Slightly tasty but very dried out. The bbq polish was horrible, just nasty tasting with a strange texture to it. Pulled pork was just ok. Came with 3 small cups of different sauces, they were ok, but the mustard tasting sauce, well, it scared me it tasted so bad. Still waiting for a good BBQ joint on the Northwest side. Well, I'm giving this place 1 star because 0 is not an option. Yes, they just opened yesterday and we should have known better, but still we went there, about 20mins ago. Waited in line - partly outside in the rain - due to the way they tried putting in tables they made it completely impossible for more than 6-10 people to be inside. When we did make it in, it smelled great. Unfortunately, that is as far as we got. The music is football game type loud annoying crap. I get upbeat and modern music in a place, but not loud like it was - loud like at a football game. After waiting 20mins we were next in line to order. The girl at the counter looked friendly enough, the one delivering the orders to those waiting looked rather pissed off. Everyone inside was shouting - customers & employees alike - just to try to be heard over the music (DID I SAY HOW LOUD IT WAS???). The gentleman in front of us ordered something - couldn't tell what - but then I thought I heard something about brisket. I did. The girl had shouted back to the guy that they were out. There is nothing that speaks more volumes about how unprepared a place is than when you advertise and build up for months and not have product. Menu is pretty basic, so that's good. Prices are "meh" for a primarily take out joint. Can't tell you if they are good or bad because we couldn't get food so we don't know portions nor flavor yet. For now, LONE STAR BBQ on Harlem is going to stay our go-to bbq joint. Best around even though it's a bit pricey. This place was not very good. Maybe they will adjust some menu items and it will improve. I can only hope. The BBQ sauces were good. The pork was decent, but pretty fatty. The sides were my major problem. The fries tasted old and like they were not very fresh, which makes sense because my food was provided to me very fast. The Mac and Cheese tasted like kraft mac and cheese, but more bland and not a lot of cheese or flavor. Very disappointed in this. IMO, I do not think it's too hard to make a decent mac and cheese. This is crucial for a BBQ joint. Hopefully they figure out a different recipe or something. It did not taste homemade; very disappointing. The coleslaw tasted like it was bought in bulk from GFS. Food is OK they're pretty good on most days I would say. I really hope they improve on their drive-through. It takes forever it's crazy! It should really only be for pick ups or online orders. It literally takes 20 minutes or more for a simple order while pick ups are just waiting in line. I went through the drive-thru the other night and ordered: Brisket Taco's 3 Meat Platter (brisket, pulled pork and ribs) Donuts The brisket taco's were wonderful, tasty and melt in your mouth tender brisket(far better than Smoque). I used to love Smoque's brisket. The pulled pork and ribs were flavorful and tasty. Someone tried to compare Earl's ribs to Gale Street. There is no comparison, Gale Street lost its way years ago. We had mac and cheese, beans and coleslaw as sides all very good as well. I got a fresh piping hot batch of donuts and they were outstanding. I cannot recall the last time I had a fresh hot donut. The people who work here are super friendly!! Great to finally have a place like this so close to home. Everything tastes like its fresh off the grill which it is. I recommend the ribs, rib tips, and wings. They're supposed to have a drive thru soon. Looking forward to that! I really hope this places lasts.
