The bad reviews are strange to me...we had good food and good service. Restaurant is a basic diner and met our expectations of the place. It's an older business and could definitely use some updates but whatever...appeared clean and service was quick along with food to table. Would definitely come back. I had the Popeye skillet for $12. Large portion of food...skillet cooked perfectly...even eggs...and packed with ingredients. Arrived with pancakes...2 super fluffy ones. For the cost of it everything was great and I would definitely order again and recommend.

Huge plate size for 1 person not bad for the price 12.99 it was absolutely delicious.. lots of gravy n a side of garlic bread. $2.00..

Came here for breakfast and the food and service were on point. I ordered the Lucky Grill skillet and it was just what I was looking for. A little bit of meat with sausage and bacon along with veggies. It came with a side of pancakes which was okay. The pancakes seemed to break apart more than usual when I tried to cut into it, if that makes any sense. Nonetheless, it was still good. The server we had was awesome. She was very attentive from the get go and also very funny and personable. The prices also weren't bad at all. $22 for both my hubby and I. I would definitely come here again for breakfast.

The restaurant is set back from Milwaukee in a strip mall.

I met a coworker here for breakfast and specifically asked for "Rosie" because I wanted to see how bad this waitress was. (Based on another's review.) Service is my hot button so I wanted to check it out. There were only two servers, Frankie and Rose, so they gave me Rose. And she must not be the same as the "Rosie" waitress who got one star because Rose was pleasant and very attentive. We ordered a variety of food. Got it quickly. The order was correct, the food was good and in general I'd go back just to have Rose wait on me because she was funny and nice.

I love me a diner just about as much as a tablecloth restaurant , and today I was sure hoping that Lucky Grill was going to be a hot ticket. It wasn't . I ordered the Chefs Omelette with well done/ crispy ( as in brown ) hash browns . Omelette was OD'd (dry). Hash browns were cold. Server took the potatoes and asked kitchen to serve me some crispy/hot ones. What came back (see attached pic) was at least hot , (a hot mess ) but there was nothing "brown" about them . More like mashed potatoes . Albany Park has much better options .

(Sides were a tiny cup of cole slaw and a tiny cup of sliced bananas and strawberries.) I know all about food inflation, but that's simply unacceptable. The wait staff is friendly, and it's not their fault, but the cooks seem to get the orders wrong a lot. On my first try, they gave me a grilled cheese with avocado and forgot the tomato. When I pointed this out, the cook simply peeled back the tiny sandwich and added some sad looking cold tomato slices. Ridiculous. I explained to the server (again, not her fault) that the flavor comes from the tomato being grilled WITH the sandwich. Never going back to this place.

I ordered the daily special French toast, added fruit and pecans, plus a side of bacon. The French toast was absolutely massive and could easily be shared. My only complaint was the $3.75 charge for pecans, which felt a little steep for the amount included. Overall, the food was good, the diner atmosphere was exactly what I was hoping for, and there's something special about dining in such a historic Chicago institution. If you're visiting the city and don't mind a bit of a wait, Lou Mitchell's is worth experiencing at least once.

I would assume a place where the newest thing since the 1980s is the security camera would have vinyl with more cracks and patina than my trusty old leather jacket! But no, it's in fantastic shape. Especially given that, the vibe in here is awesome! It's like stepping through a time-portal. For food, I ordered an old favorite: Pigs in Blankets. The food came out fast, though, to be fair, there was only one other person dining in at the time. The sausage links were crisp, and the pancakes were lightly sweet and fluffy. All in all, great! While perhaps not enough to summon the Michelin Guide inspectors, it was better than the average greasy spoon. Finally, I really appreciate that the prices are reasonable, and that there is parking! Final verdict: I've had a small handful of spectacular breakfasts. I've also had criminal breakfasts, where two unsalted eggs, two bacon strips, and a tablespoon of potatoes costs $14.95. Golden House Restaurant & Pancake House finds itself in that sweet spot in between - it is neither a spectacular spot (often have prices to boot), nor is it an overpriced, underwhelming greasy spoon that stays in business thanks to regulars who have been coming for decades and don't want anything better.

My wife and I ordered the bone marrow to start and shared a single cheeseburger with the bacon and egg add on. The bone marrow with the marmalade on the side was amazing. I loved the thick toast they gave on the side. It was the perfect balance for such a rich dish. The burger is probably one of the best burgers I've had in my life. The bun was nice and fluffy, the burger was juicy, the bacon was thick and flavorful, and the egg was cooked to perfection. For a couple of bites, we threw a little bone marrow and the marmalade on the burger and it took it to a whole new level. The restaurant was small and comfortable. A tad loud with the music, but I didn't mind too much. I would gladly trade that for the delicious meal we had. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great burger. In no way does it merit standing in line and it sure is not worth the $2.50/pp reservation fee that is not credited to your bill. That's just an obnoxious money grab. The atmosphere is dark, crowded, and a little noisy. In other words, bar-like. Service is good. No real complaints beyond asking for my burger with sauce on the side, being assured they would do that, and then having to scrape off the sauce that came on the burger. Okay, the food. The burgers are fine. Hardly life changing and not even the best in the city but definitely good. Worth the price? I doubt it. My dining partner liked the chopped liver starter (which came well after the burger) and the hash browns with duck heart gravy. I was much less impressed. I was confused by the "chopped" liver. Next to an immense pile of cornichons was a heap of large, again barely seasoned, diced liver pieces coated in a white sauce that the server told me was schmaltz. I make my own schmaltz and it has never been thick, white, and having no chicken flavor at all. Maybe they used a few drops of chicken fat to make a mayo? I don't know, but it certainly is a different take on chopped liver. The hash browns were piping hot and crispy but the potatoes themselves were badly underseasoned. The duck heart gravy was nice but the dish really didn't need the slightly congealed white cream gravy that adding nothing but more fat. If you're thinking about bacon, get it on the burger, not on the side. By itself it's way too sweet and peppery. On the burger, it works. Which brings me to... Food sensitivities. You will be asked about allergies and I'm sure you will be accommodated but you may not be happy with the results. The components of the dishes do not stand well on their own. They're clearly meant to be eaten together. Because so much egg and dairy is used in so many places if you want to avoid either your dish might be very suboptimal. So while it's okay it's a one and done for me. I'll stay with Small Cheval (very close in taste, much better value) or Burger Bar.
