A lot of hype, average at best. Went there this weekend, bf and I decided share a 3 item "platter". For the $20 we paid it was barely a meal for one. Meat was delicious, but portions were small and the sad scoop of mac and cheese was also disappointing. This place has potential, considering it's only their first week open, but after a half hour wait, small portion size and crowded space just left us feeling underwhelmed. This place is a hazard I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and took it home as I ate the sandwich I bit into a finger of a rubber glove. To top off the whole story I told the owner I would be right back and he didn't believe me he left the store. After making a big deal about my service he showed up and handed me cash and said nothing to me. While I was there a lady had bloody chicken and had to return that. Great spot for BBQ on the north side that's not too well-known, which means it's easy to get in and the food is top notch every time I've gone, plus when have you EVER had a BBQ salmon sandwich this good for under $7 that wasn't located on an ocean-side? Never thought drive thru bbq would be a good idea but glad to know I was wrong! Hard to find solid bbq on the northwest side of the city but earls delivers. I always judge a bbq spot by their brisket and I must say earls' was solid. Tender and flavorful and paired well with the Chicago hot bbq sauce. So far I've tried their pick 2 platter with brisket and 1/4 chicken and 2 sides priced at $15 with tax and you get plenty of bbq sauce. Delicious food but I think there could be some little improvements. Prices are a little high for meals but you do get a lot of meat which is always a good thing. My one issue is that this food is supposed to be smoked and they definitely do not use your traditional wood burning smokers so you lose out on that great flavor. I had the brisket burrito which was good, but had a very, very sweet flavor which did not blend well with the spices in the rest of the burrito. When comparing the brisket in the burrito to brisket that was on it's own, there was definitely something sweet added to my brisket which made it strange. Tasty food, prices are a little on the higher side but these cuts of meat are very good and you get a fair amount. I would only say that I wish they truly smoked their meats to get that smokey flavor. Can't go wrong with their mac & cheese, hands down the best part of the menu. read more

I have been there 3 times this week. Very little to no wait all three times. Food is absolutely delicious and great prices (quote a few dishes at $5.95 with coleslaw and side)! My favorite was the burnt tips they had one day on special and the donuts! I'm addicted to the donuts!! Brisket and rip tips were delicious too. Mac and cheese is another favorite topped with some sort of breading, yummy! It's a new business so dont listen to the negatives and give this place a chance and I will definitely support! Much needed in this area!!! Oh and I haven't had a chance to try the ice cream or shakes but I will be back VERY SOON! I'll take pictures next time. First 3 times I was too eager to try it. Decided to stop in here after hearing from my coworkers about how great it is. They were absolutely right! The ribs and brisket were wonderful, and the Georgia sauce totally brought everything together for me. I couldn't get over the donuts, too! I also wanna give a special shout out to the staff - so friendly, accommodating, and professional. I always love going into a place and seeing the staff having fun and looking like they're enjoying themselves while also maintaining a professional atmosphere. Kudos to the dude who had the tattoo on the side of his head - he was really friendly and made sure I got everything I needed. All in all, I'm definitely recommending al my friends come to Earl's! The only reason I'm not giving this place 5 stars is because I still need to try a couple tings in the menu and the sausage was not really smoked. My friend and I have wanted to go here for months and finally got the chance. We each tried a 2 different meats and sides so we could have a good idea of Earl's. The brisket was superb, the ribs and tips were awesome, the chicken wings were good (what would throw them over the edge would be to throw them on the grill for a minute to char), the sausage was really good but lacking a char or some more smoke rendering. The meat was so perfectly smoked and seasoned that the house made sauces were there to add a little sweetness or heat. The sauces were awesome too!! Fries were fresh cut and virtually grease less, the beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned, the cole slaw was very good and fresh and the mac and cheese was good but nothing to write home about. We wanted to try the donuts but were too full to, maybe next time. I'm floored that there is not a line out the door of this place like Smoque. Earl's has better seasoned, smoked and sauces than Smoque. This is coming from two people who have worked for many years in restaurants and have been to so many bbq places in the city we lost count. In my experience, this place seems to be a one-trick pony. And that trick is their brisket. A bit dry, but tender with a very tasty bark. But that's about it. Poor customer service, lack of maintenance in the dining room and frequently incomplete orders and slow or lost delivery suggest that the owners have never run a business before. I love when people say "too much fat on my tray." BRUH where do you think the flavor comes from? I read through all the reviews on this place and I can honestly say that not one of the bad reviews is accurate at all and that anyone who has time to write a 6 paragraph review clearly is thinking too much and may never be satisfied with anything in their life. I still really enjoy all the other local barbecue joints so I won't name names but I do believe that Earles has some of the tastiest meat I've had as far as barbecue smoked meat in Chicago. Their pricing is cheaper than most and the portion sizes were delightful. While I was in the restroom my brother actually threw away my leftovers and cleared my tray. I was super disappointed but I have since forgiven him. Sliced brisket was bomb, rib tips fire and the ribs were on point. This place is nowhere near my house but I will definitely go back multiple times for their smoked meat. Bottom line is that Earl's is LIT AF. For those of you who are complaining that they ran out of things one, that is a good sign and two get over it and go home and make yourself a bologna sandwich. read more

This is a great local spot for BBQ. I usually get the smoked brisket which never disappoints. I really should try more things there actually. They have really good chicken and so are there ribs. Macaroni and cheese is great as well, handmade not out of a blue box. They are reasonably priced as well. They have really great donuts too. There really isn't much to say honestly. It's nice to have a BBQ place in the Jefferson area which feels like it is lacking in restaurants. I hope they stick around for a while. read more

A co-worker told me about earl's bbq, and I am forever indebted to her. While in the area I stopped in to grab lunch to go before heading to the airport. There is a drive thru option, but having never been here before I decided to go inside. The girl at the front counter was sassy but so fun, and after answering all my questions I had three pulled pork sandwiches, an order of fries, and a few donuts ordered. While I waited for my food, I tried out the 4 different bbq sauces on the tables. All were good, and they sell them in to go bottles which I might need to pick up the Chicago Style BBQ sauce next time I visit. (there will definitely be a next time!) My food was hot and fresh, even when I got home 30 minutes later. I confess - I ate one of the donuts and several fries on the drive home, and oh my goodness were they good. The donuts were cinnamon sugar and smaller rings versus a big full size standard donut. I'm getting hungry just writing this! My mom and grandma, who the other two sandwiches were for, also both really enjoyed it. I will definitely not only go to Earl's when I'm in the area, but will go out of my way to return. read more

Drive thru pointless, wait time ridiculous, customer service what a joke, bbq sandwich with couple of sides might require a spoon or fork to say the least atleast a napkin at best, according to the clerk u have to ask if not Owell followed by I have to hang up "DUDE" and take care of other orders and literally hung up very classy. So can't even rate the food cause it got cold and in the garbage now to bad cause I'm from the neighborhood. u know what they say 1 bad experience and a lost customer really equals 20+ lost customers good luck, common courtesy and being nice doesn't cost anything to a paying customer that want to support a local buisness read more

After hearing about Earls from an advertisement on Facebook we were intrigued. The allure to a place like this is the drive thru aspect & the homemade donuts. Arriving at about 7pm on a Friday night, we tried to go through the drive thru & low & behold it hadn't been built yet! That's odd, why would they advertise a drive thru if it wasn't open yet. Even though it was raining, we decided to stand in the line wrapped around the restaurant for about 30 min only to be cut in line by a couple who walked past the entire line right up to the ordering counter & proceeded to be presented with 2 full dinners including shakes & donuts. I tried to reason maybe that was the owners son to get such special treatment. Anyways, 10 min later when it was our turn to order we were told they were not taking milkshake orders that night AND they had just run out of donuts for the night. Seriously? That's half the allure, gone. We can get bbq chicken or pork anywhere in Chicago & honestly places like Pork Shoppe & Smoque BBQ are so much more professional & well run & organized. I honestly think the long line was freaking the employees out & they needed a manager there to keep things running smoothly. Going to Earls reminded me of a high school lunchroom cafeteria where nobody really cares about the outcome as long as the line keeps moving. read more

Hands down the worst BBQ I've ever had! I ordered the two meat platter, pulled pork and brisket. I never thought you could have this much fat in smoked meat. The pork had to be picked through to find the pieces that actually had meat on it, and the brisket was absolutely terrible! First off I ordered it chopped and it came sliced and the slices I had looks like they saved all of the fat for the day and threw that in my to-go box. For the amount of money I spent I was expecting to get some pretty good food and was extremely disappointed. I was able to eat one slice of my brisket, I understand brisket has some fat on it but when all you have is a plate full of fat that is the farthest from what it is supposed to be. The flavor was Bland and not very appetizing, the only reason I gave one star was because the fries were very good and I was told to try the donuts and it was excellent! But to pay almost $20 for dinner and a donut its not worth it when the donut and the fries are the only edible thing on the plate. Hands down the worst BBQ I have ever had and I definitely will not be coming back! I would not recommend this place for barbecue to my worst enemy! read more

I'm from out of town and decided to visit this place. (Minneapolis Mn) Wow!! I understand some times it's so busy some things can take a while, or even if there is one worker on the clock it's a talent to be able to serve everyone. There was one particular employee that I honestly wanted to bring back to Mn with me to work at the restaurant I co-manage. He was a darker skinned male, he was a manager and I believe his name tag said "Jace". (I wrote the name down in my phone because I work in a line of customer service and I know that a lot of people just write reviews just to write them, but when a worker deserves recognition, I like to email or post about it. Jace treated us like family, and every other customer he was serving. I seriously felt like I was right at home with my family. I asked what he would recommend and so I got the biscuits and gravy and my two friends got the brisket and pulled pork. (Took us a bit to figure out what to get because we were so excited. and he was so patient and kind) We all tried each other's food and let me tell you something, WOW WOW WOWWWW!!!! (Also- I'm usually not into pulled pork but holy crap, it was so good!!!) If I could give you a million stars on here I definitely would. Not only for the amazing food, but for the stellar customer service we received. A lot of other places we visited in the area were not nearly as friendly, professional or informative about their products. I will be telling all of my friends about this place and posting your website to other sites. Great job on the food service, quality and your employees. It is a new independent real-food restaurant run by local people. They have been open 5 days, I have been there for two of them. It's delicious. I am a barbecue snob from spending 8 years in Austin, TX. And it is good, and smokey, and fresh, and friendly, and, depending on what you order, ranges from reasonably priced to dirt cheap. A great addition to the neighborhood, and once they hit their stride it will bring people from around town to our little corner, and we will all benefit.
