The menu has lots of great options. I had a hard time deciding on one dish. I ordered the lobster roll and didn't realize there were multiple options for variations. I went with the Connecticut style (served warm with butter and no mayo) and loved it. I also opted for the truffle fries which were delicious. I also ordered the green juice which was refreshing and tasted great. I was in a party 3 and everyone liked their food. The vibe was relaxing and the decor was good. The view is spectacular and almost unmatched and the cliff house resort is beautiful and managed very well. At Tiller, the service is generally good although sometimes on the slower side. The food and experience execution is not great. It feels like they are trying too hard to be upscale and the results are disappointing. We ate several appetizers and entrees and nothing stood out as even above average. We liked the arancini but we ordered it with lobster...they forgot the lobster...we told them...and they still never brought it. My son had chocolate and vanilla ice cream for dessert. They stacked the chocolate on top of the vanilla and it was melted into the vanilla by the time it came. Thats not the end of the world but its one of many examples of poor execution. Even the free bread wasnt great and the maple butter didnt taste of maple. This place will never hurt for customers given the view but I suggest they focus more on simpler to execute crowd pleasers vs. trying to be ambitious and being consistently unsuccessful at it. read more

Definitely need to make reservations, this is not a quick meal! It took a bit to get our food but it was tasty. The gluten free pancakes were thin and crispy but had good flavor, I just wish there was more blueberry butter and was surprised that it didn't seem like real northern maple syrup. I was excited to try the blueberry ranch but it honestly didn't have too much of a distinct flavor. The real star was the corn chowder, there was plenty of lobster and it was so delicious with the potatoes, corn, and bacon! That is a must try. read more

A friend had recommended this place who lives in ME when I asked her if she knew of any good restaurants around York, ME. There were 6 of us females staying in York, ME to celebrate a 50th birthday and we decided to come here for our friend's birthday dinner. There was a little bit of a wait so me & another girl went to the bar to grab a drink & the bar was crazy busy too so we had a little bit of a wait. There was live music outside the restaurant which was nice to listen to & OMG the views of the ocean and around the outside of the hotel that this restaurant is located inside of, The Cliff House were beautiful even though there was a drizzling of rain. Our waitress LISA was AMAZING, fun, upbeat & involved with us as if she was one the girls! One of the girls had ordered bottled water which were $6.00 a piece & I never caught onto that & had drank some when I found a glass of water in front of me & the same girl had asked if anyone would eat the bread if she ordered & we were like "yes." I believe the bread was $10 & it wasn't your normal bread in a basket and the serving was small...see photo's. It still tasted good & its a good thing the size wasn't too big because I hate when I fill up on bread before my meal. I already knew I was going to go all out with a filet & lobster tail dinner. I definitely made a great choice! Both looked amazing once they were brought out. I already knew that the filet was a good cut of meat when my knife just melted thru as I was cutting it and it was cooked to perfection.....Med. rare, nothing more annoying when a chef doesn't know how to cook your steak medium rare & it comes out medium or rare so kudos to whoever the chef was that cooked my filet this night....thank you!! The lobster tail was small which I had asked Lisa about the size & she had informed me of the size before & after it was cooked. The tail was tasty. Filet $6200 & Lobster tail add on $44.00. I loved how the bar carries High Noon cherry so I was enjoying one with dinner. Cost $10.00 Another awesome thing about this restaurant is that we were able to bring in a birthday cake (so the beautiful cake pic I posted is was what we brought in) that they kept out back during dinner & when it was time Lisa brought it out with our candles lit and everyone around us all took in singing our friend "happy birthday." They do charge a $3.00/person slicing fee. The Tiller restaurant is a 5 STAR in my book & I really enjoyed my dinner, the ambiance and Lisa. It is very expensive in my book but I also don't go out all the time to dinner eating filet and lobster tail so I was OK with spending $131.76 on myself, but mind you I ended up getting a bottle of that $6 water the other girl ordered thrown on my bill. They did split our checks individually which was really nice because with one big bill there is always someone who doesn't throw in enough money. We are just finishing our stay at the cliff house. I would say the experience at the hotel in really great. The lowest experience is probably this restaurant. They are trying, but just miss the details - They forget to bring the right stuff to your table or the food is incorrect or cold. The michelon star feels wrong - almost sets the wrong expectations right away. I would love to come back to the cliff house next year, but honestly, the main reason we wouldn't would be just that the food and service at Tiller was not great. I went here for lunch with my family on a weekend in September. We were seated by the window, which was perfect for soaking in the stunning views during our meal. Food: With six of us, we ordered two chef boards to share. They came with a variety of cured meats, farm stand cheeses, house jam, spiced nuts, coastal honey, crostini, and crackers. Everything was fresh and flavorful, but I couldn't get enough of the honey! For mains, some family members had the lobster roll and Cliff Fish n' Chips, and everyone agreed they were both excellent. Since I'm not big on seafood, I opted for the wagyu burger, and it was one of the best burgers I've had. The bacon habanero jam added a fantastic layer of flavor. The only thing I'll mention is that since we were there for lunch, we had the all-day menu, which didn't have as many options as breakfast or dinner. I'll definitely have to come back to try those! It's also not the cheapest meal but the views and service make it worth the price. Service: Our server was super friendly, especially since two people in our group were late due to traffic. We never felt rushed, and they let us take our time with the appetizers before ordering, and even before everyone had arrived. Don't let the mixed reviews dissuade you from trying Tiller's. When I choose a place to eat, I always look for three things: good drinks, good food, and good views. Tiller's hits the nail on the head for my Trifecta of wants when I go out to eat. They make the best spicy margherita in all Maine and I've tried plenty!! In regards to food, they offer a variety of dishes to satisfy the most discerning of visitors. I really enjoyed the scallops, oysters, and lobster. Just like any other very busy restaurant, give them grace on longer wait times, if they forget to mention an extra charge for a change to a menu item, if they forget to bring out something immediately that you put in a note on a reservation, etc. Always ask if you're unsure about something, don't Assume anything. My scallop entree was OK, the scallops had a slight fishy flavor to them which was off-putting. I had to choke them down. My husband's steak was fine, it was cooked well but it was sliced in half with gravy on it. Not a fan of restaurants slicing the steak for me. Even the cookies for dessert were hard and crunchy. Although the service was excellent & ocean views were stunning, this weekend fell between NH & Maine school vacation & there were kids running around everywhere. First of all, I searched for fine dining for our anniversary and this place came up. It is not. There were at least 4 tables of 6+ drunk women screeching, ruining the ambiance. Way too loud. We were seated in a dirty u shaped booth (it is our anniversary, we might want to talk to one another). Also, there was a heater under the booth which made it unbearable. We asked to move and got seated in another ridiculous booth. At least this one wasn't hot. The lobster corn chowder was under seasoned, the lazy man lobster was tough and cost 115 bucks. The waiter asked if I wanted another wine and he just poured more wine into my half full glass ( but charged me for a full pour). If a bill for 2 people comes to over $300 the meal better be perfect and this place is far from it. read more

I was happy to see so many gluten-free and vegetarian options on the menu. I will say, I found the prices to be quite fair compared to many restaurants in downtown Ogunquit (I paid $13 for 3 tiny spring rolls at a Thai restaurant for dinner last night) but $17 for 3 large gluten-free pancakes here. The pancakes were delicious and my latte was excellent. The service was lackluster but the views were our main draw. Our first dinner of our honeymoon at The Cliffhouse was at The Tiller! The servers were extremely professional and attentive, and we thought they had a great menu here. My filet mignon was cooked to a perfect medium rare and was incredibly tender. The focaccia bread appetizer was nice and garlicky, though I could've used a bit more ricotta on the board. My husband enjoyed his scallops and lobster fried rice, and we shared a decadent chocolate cake topped with macerated strawberries. I really wanted to love this place. Big anniversary dinner, table overlooking the water (as most are) but it just missed the mark for us. We started with the chefs board. A nice selection of meats and cheeses. We ordered the special tomahawk pork chop and the tuna crudo. The tuna was flavorless and we had to ask for soy sauce to give it some flavor. The pork chop was tender and tasty, but it was on a bed of corn kernels. The corn tasted just like canned corn and was just spread across the plate. The other side was baked beans that were so dark and thick, they seemed way over cooked. Service issue - the mains took so long to come out, the manager stopped by to apologize and provided a free lobster fried rice entree. Nice gesture but at this point we didn't need another entree. The Cliff House is such a beautiful place that I was expecting more from the Tiller. read more

My husband, children, and I stayed at Cliff House for two nights last weekend. Unfortunately, our experience at Tiller's and the Terrace left us extremely disappointed. When my husband asked the Tiller's manager about the best time to go to the Terrace (which is first come, first serve), the manager responded with, "I'm not playing any games with you." This was shockingly rude and unprofessional. We did get a table at the Terrace thanks to a kind hostess, and our server was attentive. However, we waited two hours for our entrées with three young children. Only after a higher manager intervened did our food finally arrive, and the meal was comped -- a kind gesture, but it didn't erase the poor service. Sadly, the same manager then made a passive-aggressive remark to my husband: "Hope you enjoyed the meal on us." Completely inappropriate and disrespectful. For a resort of this caliber, the lack of professionalism and basic hospitality from management was unacceptable. read more

We love the cliff house. Had brunch at the Tiller with our 3.5 year old. It was a perfect fall weather and the view is as stunning as it could ever be. First breakfast the food is amazing I love it the chocolate chip buttermilk pancakes are amazing along with the amazing bacon and also the French fries are great. The service if you come here it will probably be pretty busy but it will come in a good amount of time for how busy it is. The Amharic e is great with a view of the ocean because it is one a cliff. For the dinner it was good I mean the bread garlic thing was good and I would definitely recommend the fries also the chief is amazing and would definitely recommend this place. The crabmeat croquettes were dry and flavorless. Staff was professional, courteous and offered to send out another order but why would I want a second helping of dry flavorless croquettes? Main entree of scallops and lobster fried rice was tasty and well prepared. The scallops were well seared and perfectly cooked! Side of roasted asparagus was well prepared too. Extra lobster tail add on was tough and chewy. Not worth it. Dessert was blueberry cheesecake and coffee. Cheesecake was pretty good.....coffee was served with no sugar option. Two stars overall. We ate here once during our stay, deciding last minute to eat dinner instead of going into town. Positives were we were seated promptly next to the warmth of a fireplace and our server was very nice. Given its location, with big open windows that look out over the water on one side, the view is hard to beat if you ate here during the daylight hours. Negatives: unfortunately the quality of the food at this restaurant was not in line with how high end the hotel is. My wife being vegetarian opted to order 2 vegetable sides and another option as their menu was on smaller side, especially for vegetarians. Her root vegetables were not even close to cooked and after a while we did send them back stating they needed cooking longer and the server apologized and brought them back and they were really no more cooked than before when tried again and were barely edible. Our server was great, but upon seeing she barely ate any of these after sending it back, he should have comped us for this automatically.She had to order bread with a sort of herb butter that was very good and the best part of her meal. I ordered a burger, which came with fries and was overall good, but was just barely cooked enough for me after ordering it well done and seeing plenty of pink and the bacon was not crispy and was undercooked as well. If this meal was under $50 I would say fine, whatever, but we paid A LOT, especially when you add drinks, for a very mediocre meal. We didn't press the issues above due it being a special occasion and didn't want to make it more negative experience with such a nice server. As others have said, this restaurant is all about the view, and that is worth at least a star. While service was also friendly and efficient it was hard to justify the cost for very average food. Compared to dining options in nearby Ogunquit, York, Kittery and Portsmouth, it just doesn't compare. We started our meal with salad and a chowder, which were good enough but simple and plain. We were really let down with the onion Focaccia bread service for $6. Served cold, and nothing at all like focaccia and had no onions, or flavor at all. You would be unhappy with this bread if it were brought to the table at no charge, but when charging for bread, one expects something better. The scallop entree had big beautiful scallops and the presentation was nice enough, but there was no wow, no great flavor to the lobster fried rice. To be clear, there was nothing bad, but there was no wow, no delicious. Simple, plain, and unremarkable. When entrees are $42, they should be a bit better. We have been here quite a few times and had a wonderful experience but this time left us feeling really disappointed. First, we came as a family, I requested a high chair with our reservation but we were not brought on promptly. Second, we requested the kids meals out with the soup. However, our meals took an addition 30 minutes. In total, we waited one hour for a lobster roll and fish and chips. The couple seated right before us was on dessert before we got our food. Third, the food was not good. The lobster roll was drowned in mayo, so much so that it was all I could taste. The fish and chips had cayenne pepper dumped on top. It was bizarre. Forth, I ordered two glasses of sangria and they both tasted completely different which was just strange. It left us feeling that even though they say they are family friendly and have a kids menu that they really are not. Hubs noticed their Brunch offerings online and off we came unannounced without a reservation. Hostess seemed pleasant. However, she mentioned because we aren't hotel guests, we couldn't sit for breakfast and had to wait til 11 when Brunch is opened to visitors. Rules are rules. Seating layout seems like you can catch breathtaking ocean views from any spot. I'm talking about the bluest ocean and a mind-blowing cliff drop. There was only one meat, the rest was cheeses, no mustard served, too much fruit. We then had the worst oysters while in Maine, they just didn't look or taste fresh. Warning: food poisoning We came to stay at the cliff house for a one night getaway. Reviews of the hotel were great and we booked a reservation at the Tiller restaurant figuring it must be decent. Shortly prior to our reservation we realized yelp reviews weren't actually all that great but we figured we'd give it a try as it was a chilly, dreary night and we didn't feel like venturing out. Husband had hangar steak that come with polenta and broccolini. I had squash salad with salmon and we shared a side of asparagus. Husband gave his a 2.5 rating. Mine was similar. The asparagus we shared was undercooked. I had the sangria, my husband didn't drink. Service was good. We agreed it wasn't impressive and we probably wouldn't come back (except for maybe a simple breakfast). 6 hours later my husband wakes up acutely ill with stomach cramps and GI symptoms consistent with food poisoning. Better by AM. Needless to say we did not go again for breakfast. If we ever come back to stay we will avoid dining on site. Total bummer. read more
