Visited Earthbound while on a business trip. Out in a fairly remote area we were not sure we'd find a place to meet the dietary needs of some of our crew members. For a $4 bunch of Kale, i would expect it to be exquisite... and the produce IS usually good. The salad bar is predictable, and slightly fresher than Whole Foods, and the juices, albeit expensive, are tasty. My husband loves the $3 muffins, and i think the Zucchini bread is quite nice. The prices are somewhat balanced out by the lovely surroundings. Our daughter enjoys wandering through the Labyrinth, and they have an adorable garden in the back. However, where i draw the line is the GT Kombucha, which is available everywhere else at around $3, and Earthbound sees it entirely appropriate to charge $4.50 a bottle. I can understand that if you grow it yourself, you are allowed to charge whatever you feel is appropriate, however, when a wholesale price is set, and there is an executive decision made to charge a dollar fifty more per bottle than anywhere else around, you are simply out of your organic, earthbound MIND. And so, unless i'm about to melt down, i cannot in any good conscience, shop at the lovely, organic, highway robbery stop. read more

Charming place. Horrible service. We tried to use the Yelp free frozen yogurt offer, and the manager and cashier AND the lady behind the frozen yogurt counter refused it because we asked after we purchased sandwiches already. Really? We JUST bought them. Shame because we were really enjoying our time there - until that is we had to encounter any of the staff. If that was improved I would have given 4-5 stars. I purchased an expensive lemon and lime. Unfortunately, this lemon smelled and tasted awful? I thrashed both. I won't buy my produce here again. Lemons Have an Alkaline Effect on the Body. Although lemon juice is acidic, when it is processed by the body the result is an alkaline effect. Adding lemon juice to your water can be a great way to increase its pH to alkalinity. We've added more veggies and fruit to the diet of late so hunting for fresh foods has become a bigger part of our shopping experience. The Earthbound Farmstand won't work for us on day to day produce needs for two reasons. First, the selection is minimal. Secondly the price is prohibitive. I understand the Earthbound brand is about organics and growing organically has more costs associated but this is their own market. There is no middleman and the store is surrounded by fields with trucks all about. If there was one place you could catch a break on the product it would be be at the factory, no? There is a surprisingly small amount of produce on display and this is very disappointing. Every other produce market I shop at has giant bins full of apples, oranges, grapefruit, broccoli, onion and avocados. The Farmstand has a single row of produce in the store and some baskets near the front porch. All their delicious fresh foods in stores across California yet their own store offers little. The store is very clean and you can get a cup of coffee. The staff seemed nice enough. read more

I love this place!! And it is a must stop for anyone vacationing in Monterey! This little organic farm start up had become quite the household name and the farm stand makes it easy to pop in a think about the good old days of actually getting your produce at farm stands! One of my favorite things about this place is you can cut your own herbs, they have herb ties and scissors so you can just snip away! Being there on a work trip I didn't have much time to cook so I just snipped a few of my favorite Rosemary and lavender buds, smooshed some in between my fingers and held up to my nose. It's a bit of a drive to get here, and things are on the expensive side, but where else can you find all organic stuff in such a fun place! I checked in and used the free deal to get some ice cream....even if it was 50 degrees with a strong breeze.... :) Make the drive out here, get yourself a free yelp deal, and browse the shop! There is a fantastic book selection and awesome ready to go meals! A great place to come during fall with the pumpkin and squash displays, and they offer different classes year round! With fall in the air, my friends and I decided to head into the Valley to pick up pumpkins from Earthbound Farms. It probably wasn't the most economical option at $0.50 per pound of pumpkin, but the selection was great--they've got over a dozen different varieties of pumpkins and squash. While it cost me about $25 for two pumpkins, I also got to pick up some great squash for dinner while I was there. We stayed for lunch, which I highly recommend. One of my friends made a salad with their fresh, organic greens. The rest of us opted for the special panini (chicken sausage with Fontina, basil and onions on an herb focaccia with a red pepper spread) and a cup of soup (tomato basil bisque). They ran out of soup and didn't have enough to give me a full cup, but they were quick to make up for this. After lunch, we checked out the corn maze (unfortunately leveled during the recent storm) and herb gardens, then came back to the farm stand for froyo. I opted for the froyo--a nice tart froyo available in raspberry or honey. I got the swirl and was quite pleased--it's great with some honey drizzled on top! My friend got the soft-serve ice cream and also gave it the thumbs up. Earthbound isn't cheap, but it's a great spot to drop by on a weekend daytrip into the Valley. read more

My family loves to stop at The Farmstand during a trip south from the Bay Area. It is a small shop but they have a fairly comprehensive selection including some prepared foods such as salads, soups and sandwiches. There is also soft-service ice cream and a selection of bread and pastry. As others have said, everything in this place is natural and organic. There is a fairly good selection of fresh product. Don't come here expecting a Whole Foods but it is a fun place to stop for a snack/lunch when driving through the area. read more

Considering we were in Carmel my friends and I were pretty much expecting everything to be expensive. And hey! Turns out we were right! After driving the 2 and half hours from San Francisco to Earthbound Farms to meet a friend, our jaws dropped at the 8 dollar per lb cherries. WTF? Needless to say we didn't buy those. Our friend worked at the little cafe part and as we were deciding between the 7 dollar grilled tofu or the 9 dollar pannini our friend said it was on him. THANK JESUS! So we got our free sandwiches all the while thanking him like a mofo and then decided to order (and pay) for our own smoothies. For 6 bucks a cup we were expecting them to be frickin delicious. Thankfully we weren't disappointed, although we all agreed that we would have preferred a 3 dollar jamba juice. Overall the sandwiches and drinks were pretty delicious but totally not worth the price. Hey, maybe if organic food weren't so expensive more people eat healthy. Just a thought. But for now I'll stick with Safeway. PS: This is purely for the produce stall. Although the flowers in the back did have a disturbing amount of bees. read more

This is an unusual, eclectic place. The owners run a hugely successful fresh produce business, which sells to markets all over. This particular location seems like a subsidized labor of love. If you have young children, be sure to come here. They offer many unique activities for the kiddos, such as a corn stalk maze in the fall, a labeled herb garden, and bug tours all year round. They sell a wide variety of pumpkins and squash in October, for eating or decorating. They have a small food market that sells fresh produce and organic sandwiches, etc. If you are a vegetarian foodie, you are likely to enjoy your meal here. The location, a few miles into Carmel Valley, is beautiful. If it is foggy in Carmel, just drive out Carmel Valley Road, and you will find sunshine. Earthbound Farms is next door to Hacienda Hay & Feed, which I also enjoy visiting. read more

My dear ladyfriend and I ogled the website for Earthbound Farms and decided that I had to visit on my recent trip to Monterey with my sweetheart. I am certain I am prone to view farm life with a certain rosiness but nevertheless cannot contain my excitement for such things like a reasonable person. It was stinky outside! It was organic! It was awesome! There was some sort of tour bus there, and I'm not sure what that was about but if it was a tour of local organic farms, that's awesome too! We could see rows and rows of green living things, went inside the produce stand to eye the fruits and veggies and then we had some delicious food. The Organic Kitchen wasn't exactly what I expected, but upon reflection I'm not sure why I thought there would be more "hot food" variety than there was (1: vegan chili, 2: meat sandwich). Besides, there's a wee deli area with freshly prepared organic sandwiches, spreads, pasta salads and so on, so veg*ns aren't hurting for options there, which is great. I had the excellent and fresh hummous and veggie sandwich, and split the 1: chili with my omnivorous sweetheart, who also had the 2: sandwich. We ate outside at a long communal table under an umbrella and it was really relaxing and charming and not at all stinky. We split a blood orange for dessert. Rosy! read more

Me and my Mom came to the farm to grab a lunch after our hike in Point Lobos. Great place. I am vegan and zero waste supporter. Salad bar fit my needs perfectly: fresh salad greens, edamame, marinated beets, baked tofu topped with nice dressing served in reusable bowl with reusable silverware. We came early in the growing season (Mid April), so the gardens weren't really up and running yet. We had a delicious, light saturday lunch there and ate on the picnic tables. We then walked through the gardens but there wasn't much to see. I will definitely go back during the summer/fall when they have more events and there will actually be some herbs to pick. Super disappointed that there wasn't a giant pumpkin totem pole out infront! Everything in the farm store was super expensive and could be found cheaper once you go into town. The gardens were extremely charming, definitely will be back when everything is in bloom! read more

This used to be one of the best places to take kids but Management has made it clear they don't like kids and make parents feel unwelcome.

Love this place! Organic, prepared sandwiches and other food items, fresh bread loafs, a small but well-stocked salad bar, fresh produce, a good selection of shelf-stable specialty food items, frozen and refrigerated foods and drinks... and if it's a nice day, which is a lot of the times, you can have a picnic outside and then take a stroll through the gardens. I finally got to visit the "new" store yesterday. Dolores pretty much nails it. Aesthetically, sure, it looks cool and hip now. But that's not Carmel Valley. CV is rustic charm. You had that. We used to take our kids there. You had the most amazing blueberry muffins (always seemed to be out of those), grabbed some grilled chicken, fruits and veggies, the best carrot cake I've ever tasted, ice cream, and have a picnic. Then wander the grounds. Especially when raspberries are in season. Thank goodness you kept all of that. But that store. I poked my head in and saw all there was to see in less than a minute. This is the perfect time of year to come to Earthbound Farms..They go above and beyond with their beautiful displays of pumpkins, corn husk sculptures, gourds., and the grounds are so beutiful with blooming flowers and herbs. I love Paula she is the helpful friendly lady at the cashier. She has always helped me find new things to try and knows about all the latest items they sell. The staff at the food counter always are so nice too. I just never remeber to look at the name tags. Yummy stuff to buy and many pumpkins edible and non edible as well. read more
